welcome on in to the Utah blockcast man it's good to be back with you guys a great weekend I don't know about you guys great weekend for me I don't I don't know cam Rising announces his return for 2024 what else is there to talk about baby let's let's dive into it all let's I'm just kidding I'm just kidding um but but really welcome on into the Utah blockcast myself Steve ble let me intro everybody and then we'll uh we'll dive into some uh some chitchat Tyson Maul cam back Andrew Mulla uh back with you guys appreciate all you subscribers thank you so much for you know tuning in for giving us a listen and you know leaving a festar rating if you guys do that appreciate that I haven't looked to see if we've gotten any ratings lately I'm kind of scared honestly but appreciate all the support uh to say the least and so it's it's good it's good appreciate it uh fellas how are we doing how are we doing honestly truthfully how are we doing fellas excited for next year we'll just go with that and honestly a little happy that we could just kind of like you know roll this season up into a paper ball and throw it in the trash I mean nothing nothing the team either like there's not anything to do with the team it's just the season has just been bro there have been 15 season ending injuries this year it's been brutal I wouldn't wish that on any team exactly yeah that's um part of my Declaration of my new life my commitment to my new life of peace that I mentioned last week um is somewhat imp preparation for this and this possibility and it provide it allows me to um you know to I'm still at peace is what I'm saying um because unfortunately I was somewhat mentally prepared I think not quite for what we saw um but uh for kind of the the spirit of the game that we might see and you know I let's just say it would be real nice to beat Colorado on senior day I was so lost where you going glad you finished on that note yeah Andrew how are you doing brother a little bit less peaceful maybe than than cam um I was I was uh thoroughly frustrated with the uh first what 16 minutes of that game 16 minutes two seconds yeah I was gonna say didn't they score how many seconds wasn't into the was the first it was the first play into the second quar I remember being like still not going to get 28 points in the first quarter and then the first by God they didn't bit nobody scores 28 points in a quarter on Utah nobody nobody um you know what're we're gonna probably to this actually it's not on the show plan so let's talk about it right now um Utah's defense granted after you know after those 15 those really horrible 15 minutes and and eight seconds or whatever it was you know no points for almost the rest of the whole game until you know those quick 14 points that's like my bright spot if there if like if I was prepared for the show plan to be like what was there a bright spot from the game it was going to be like that stretch of time where Utah didn't allow surges of points you guys ever heard of vus Geral litis no what he's a he was a tennis player in like the 80s and 90s you guys know who Jimmy Conor is Right Jimmy Connor is great tennis player guitarist this has always been yeah it's always been a big tennis podcast well vas uh gerelus was playing uh Connors in it was it was it was he had lost 16 straight times uh to Connors and uh and vas beat him vus jerius beat him in that 17th matchup and after the after the match they're interviewing him and he says let this be a lesson nobody beats vus gereral 17 times in a row and that's kind of what it was for Utah football nobody scores 28 in a quarter on us like uh you gotta you got to take that [ __ ] to the second quarter um anyways that's a that's a long story to say very frustrating first 15 minutes and change um the the the punt Play Just man shades of last year uh and shades of two years ago tell you whoever's running special teams uh shouldn't be doing it anymore it is very tough when you have a choice of whether to block the guy on the left or the guy on the right and you just choose neither neither ah well either one of them is GNA get there so Steve I don't know if if you got clarification on this um but to me it looked like maybe possibly Bower was supposed to roll more because mocafi sets up outside and and had B ran there's just no way the guy gets to him the angle's just no longer there mocafi doesn't even have to touch him but mocafi sets up to the outside and B Easter stops and the guy goes straight through regardless that happened again that happened in Arizona last time we were down there you guys remember this I do damn near lost the game in 21 down there because of a yeah I made my my debut to the world of UT Zone article um after that week that was I don't know what it is you go down to the desert crazy shit's gonna happen you're gonna lose games on special teams you lost a game on special teams uh 2016 down there 15 anyways just not a great place to play you know there was there was some shade being thrown around at certain players that's that was a one through 85 person loss coaches included it just they weren't ready to go and and we heard that maybe they got some bad news you know close before kickoff and they weren't you know that some of the guys weren't going to be able to go and you know was maybe a a somber Ville in there down some dogs man they were down some dogs yeah and it's it's hard I think at this point of the Season where you were already Clinging On To You know any little bit you could to keep yourself you know motivated and whatnot um the good news and to Cam's point you know you're coming back playing Colorado next week it's it's gonna be you know senior day um sure a lot of these guys will get well not a lot but I'm sure there'll be a few guys that that get honored whether they come back or not is is another thing I know it sounds like there could be a lot yeah as many as 18 yeah so um you know I think you know it'll be last home game potentially for some of these dudes and um it'll be back in the friendly confines of Ryle Stadium um and you'll be playing Colorado which you know does not hurt little Get Right game before the bowl game Get Right game is not Colorado is by no means Arizona and we'll get into this but Colorado can beat you if like they they can they can mess around and score a bunch of points on you and I heard that they might got go get points too and they'll usually let you do that in the second half in the second half usually it's just like go have whatever you are we're done we're done playing today we played our 30 minutes but I I heard they might be down some starter too so yeah they could be down well you know if they're down to shador I'll feel better but uh I I I don't know I'm just saying Colorado is one of those teams that uh listen I said this about Arizona they're they're not Arizona I'm not gonna say that but I'm gonna be really mad if they get their fifth win against Utah is what I'm trying to say I I think I think Colorado is a team that can beat you if it was eight games earlier in the season I think last week they probably beat you but here's also what we gota we gotta talk about for just a the way Colorado played for just a second is Once Upon a Time Utah was ending the season against a Colorado team that nobody thought could beat Utah and sure as hell they found a way to beat Utah so I mean any given Saturday I guess it could happen um I wouldn't put I probably wouldn't put any any uh shekels on that but um certainly certainly I mean the possibility is always there I mean Coleman Peterson taught us that that was the last game of the first season of The Pack 12 and I'll be damned if this wouldn't be the last game of the last season of The Pack 12 ew don't put that out there ew no uhuh no don't put that out there you know what I said out there I said that the you remember the first game against USC um you know we went down and drove the field we lost you know they they were they were up on us we went down and drove the field to potentially take a game tying field goal and it got blocked in return for the touchdown if you guys recall and I tweeted out during the USC game and I was like please God just give us the opportunity to take a game-winning field goal just give us this chance to take it and and exercise those demons so who knows maybe this weekend against Colorado will make one of seven Chip Shot field goals and not lose like we did in 2011 shout out to uh my brother-in-law Randy who at that game probably in the same moment Andrew that you had when it was fourth and 10 and they had they reviewed the spots and ended up giving it to Utah um he said something along the lines of and I'm paraphrasing if Utah gets this first down I'll go to church next week and again the call was overturned and he's a man of his word and he went to church the next week and and it didn't stick but um I was waiting for for you and for Randy for that moment and giving you T the chance for that field goal I'm a I'm a pastor he's a pastor now he's been going Faithfully for every week since but uh no I mean it's uh it is interesting right it's our last pack 12 game U so there's something to be said for that too um you know we've we've we've had a good run in the Pack 12 I mean you had four straight Conference Championship appearances you won the last two um you just had a season with I mean I it's not even it's not even comprehensible to to really understand the injuries this season like it really hurts my brain to think about because uh I think it was Josh Furlong posted something and it was players on the two deep who had missed missed two plus games and it was like 33 players or something I mean it was like 75% of the to deep has missed multiple games I've got to update this but I have Utah over 150 games lost in the two deep um just and it's an absurd amount of games that's like losing that's like losing 13 dudes on your to deep for the entire year yeah it's brutal it's brutal so yeah not great um speaking of the Pack 12 and with this being the last game of the Pack 12 for Utah and Colorado uh pretty remarkable when you think about it how far Utah has come right I was thinking about that is you know we had the Kyle Whittingham press conference on Monday morning and you know I was just driving around campus a little bit and thinking like man the the growth of the program itself right the facilities that that we talk about now weren't there when Utah entered the Pack 12 right not even just the sports facilities just like the whole University campus the campus the area around it just the overall development of Salt Lake City everything that's transpired over the last 10 years I'm not saying like Salt Lake City is developed because of the Pack 12 but I am saying like the University campus and everything it's it's been remarkable just to see the evolution of the University of Utah and when we talk about the football program itself man it's incredible what's happened uh the way this program this team this uh coaching staff has evolved over the years I mean you think about how Kyle Whittingham is you know he's kind of changed with the times over the years you know there's still some things that he holds on to is as a head coach uh those the just the toughness and physicality those are things that define him but he's been a coach that's evolved with the times as well I mean you listen to him talk about nil now and it's like you're the same Kyle Whittingham from five years ago it's amazing right like he's he's embraced it he's adapted to change and he's changed with the times and and so it's just it's been amazing to to think of how much the UN University of Utah as a whole has changed uh being in the Pack 12 it's it's completely changed the game for they built two brand new huge state-of-the-art business buildings in the past decade um and one of them on the side says Eckles and the other on the side says Garf um like it's I think it's relatively significant and I just pulled and then two you know go ahead I was gonna say I just pulled it up because I remember when you started talking about the econom IC impact of Salt Lake City I remember reading a little graphic or article a number of years ago I just pulled it up and it was off it was based off of Utah's second full year in the Pack 12 and the economic impact from tourism and then of course the added TV people coming into film The Games 10.3 million and that was in 2013 it was so sorry 2012 it was published in 2013 but that was the uh uh the out ofate attendee the sum of expenditures for out ofate attendees um and then of course the uh the television producer Revenue so like 10 million bucks a year and that was back you know a decade ago like that's uh that's a lot more cheddar than they were previously getting I think it was said it was a in increase of about $ s million from where they were in 2011 from from their first year in the P so I mean I imagine that number grew but that's that's kind of crazy just to talk about the impact of of a sports league right yeah and you know that's that that that reminds me of a book that I've read Saturday night or Saturday Saturday millionaires uh it's a book that just kind of highlights the the financial impact of college football and and winning specifically and when you you have success like going to New Year's six bowls there is a uh a statistical like analysis of this of just how impactful going to New Year's six bowl games is on your program there's like a 15% increase in terms of uh student applications and uh and that sort of thing where you know we're talking about Utah now approaching 40,000 students you know enrolled on campus and it's insane uh but it's it you know it's it's not all football obviously there are a lot of other things that contribute to that growth but Utah but football is is used as as a mechanism and this is like why colleges adopted football as Sports programs is to attract people to come to schools and that's something that I talks about in that book as well uh Saturday millionaires so go read that it's it's a great read fantastic read uh I would recommend reading that it's it's pretty insightful and it kind of just gives you an idea of what's happened what's how Utah's evolved over the years in the Pack 12 yes Steve I think I saw something similar to that um it might have been even referencing it but on on Twitter like I think like six or seven months ago I saw like somebody said Cincinnati's application numbers went up like 300% the year after were in the playoff like just application numbers like not not like nothing to do with like the revenue or like you know anything to do with this football team like just applications to be a student there skyrocketed just from being in the playoff it's insane it's crazy I I uh I don't have the stats in front of me I can't find it but I'm not so I'm not going to remember the exact total but you guys remember UMBC that knocked off they were the first 16 seed to finally do it yeah and when labors Virginia yeah and I'm not going to remember the the exact amount but just to what Tyson's point just was about Cincinnati I remember reading an article on how their um one their enrollment applications just skyrocketed but also they sold like more merchandise in like the the two weeks after that than they had in like the preceding 10 years or some [ __ ] like that I think cam didn't you buy a hoodie a labrador hoodie anyway I remember somebody bought one after they they knocked him off but uh but that has a real impact winning and uh winning doing something on a large stage totally changes the the the thing for universities Dr Chris Hill used to always have a saying that he's like everybody's familiar with the term ivy league when they think of of smart schools well ivy league refers to a sports conference um and it's kind of true I mean and and it did wonders for the University of Utah and this uh chance to say farewell I guess to uh the Pack 12 as we know it yeah for sure it'll it'll be interesting to just kind of see how everybody you know uh handles moving forward the future and all that like obviously Utah is in a completely different place you know moving conferences now to the Big 12 next year and and the big news obviously over the weekend which I'm surprised it took us 18 minutes and 30 seconds to get to but cam Rising announces he's coming back and just curious man like for you guys for me like you know it's it's an incredible message of just think about it right you can't talk about the Arizona loss if Cameron Rising announces his return for 2024 you're not gonna talk about it uh because you're obviously he's gonna he's gonna take the headlines so it's it was timely to say the least that Cameron Rising post but just for you guys just what are your thoughts on cam coming back for 2024 and what it means for Utah before I get to that I mean I think it really just goes to show why we were so frustrated with all of this throughout the season is because Utah does this kind of PR stuff like they're not naive to how this stuff works you know a game a game doesn't go very well and they're like oh what are we gonna announce Monday morning of course it's great PR they should do exactly that and so that's why all season we just like how are you fumbling this so badly um my takeaway is talking about the injury talking about the injury situation yeah yeah thej the injury situation I'm sorry I think I it feels like the elephant in the room every time we talk about Utah football um and specifically all the headache that was caused by just really the communication nightmare that was Cam's injury status and and so anyway thanks for that quick tangent um on the just confusing Utah PR program but honestly my big takeaway is that you know there were rumors of a bunch of teams coming and and making offers for Cam and stuff and there were a bunch of rumors and and things happen like going about what number it would take for people to sign him and um I don't know what the number ended up ended up being but I think at times we heard that there was a basically an Ask of like $2 million for cam um of nil I don't know if that's uh been if that's been confirmed or anything or if that was just unsubstantiated rumor um but it sounds like it would it would end up being considerably less than that um and it probably means that um anyway it probably means that one there weren't teams like you know I don't know Notre Dame or these teams like whoever may need a big quarterback and are just throwing bags around to get somebody and then Market is probably settling a little bit in nil um but it also means that Utah probably was able to make a pretty good offer um but that the value maybe wasn't quite at two million dollar yeah yeah I say anytime you you uh get a bag with two commas in it was a good day um oh boy oh boy I'm waiting for that I'm waiting for that day for me but uh you oh boy would I love the difference would I love would I love the agent fee the 10% on that you know that's all I want wouldn't mind that I think for the team though on a serious note I think for the team as you look into 20 24 we were already talking about returning a very very talented roster with how many potential starters return I mean we'll see how everything shakes out with the n with the NFL and U you know potential transferees that may leave the program or who may come you know come to the program in the portal um but I think if you're looking at 2024 there's a reason to have a lot of optimism As you move into the new era of of Big 12 Football uh there was a national account and I I'm not g to pretend like I remember who it was but quote tweeted Cam's thing and and basically said you know odds on favorite for for the Big 12 Champion uh to be the big 12 Champion next year um and I think that's you know [ __ ] Cyclone Larry yeah Cyclone Larry Big Time listener of the Pod um but uh no but you got to feel confident I mean you know you got to go out in there and earn it and you got we we learned the hard way this year like no matter how good you may be uh if the pieces you know things don't fall your way and you know a season can go sideways on you uh but you got to feel optimistic I think as a Utah fan expanded playoff which to me to me says if you you know if Utah does return the players we think they're going to return you know that's that's the you know that's that's kind of the realistic goal as we talked about a little bit last week is is to make a playoff appearance um you know you win your conference and you're next year and you're automatically in um but even outside that still the possibility even if you were to to not win the conference you could still be you know potentially hanging around there for a playoff bid um and you know Utah's been we we've been on the doorstep before and that was on the four step or on the four in the four team playoff um but it would be a blast it would be an absolute blast to see you know especially the 12 team um you know you're GNA get multiple weeks of a tournament you're gonna have I I believe you're gonna have um you know uh potentially have first round games being played on campuses I don't know if that's that's totally accurate either I'm pretty sure that's the plan I'm pretty sure that's the plan the plan yeah that first weekend like how um I'm gonna check myself there how freaking cool would that be to be attending a freaking playoff game at Rice Eckles stadium in college football like give me a playoff game in rice eckle stadium with Kyle Whittingham at the helm at night thank you yeah they are first round games are on campus yeah sorry Andrew first round games are on campus yeah yeah a night game at rcle stadium because you know uh I don't want any more Prime Time Day games um you know dude joke uh give us a night game wait till 2024 playoffs to get a night game I'll I'll I mean I'll do it but damn could you imagine that night game that's gonna be like uh because I I think those playoff games are supposed to start the week before Christmas it is or right after but it's it's it's it's five days before December 20th and December 21st yeah look think about that fing freezing December 21st like like I'll be there I'm gonna take the Brian eracer approach not an extra Stitch of clothing man I don't know if I would want to be there bu that would be so so cold good and I hope I hope it's like Alabama that gets I get it I get it it's fine it' be fun and cold but it be the possibility of like cold oh God I hope it is there was a Utah basketball game I went to it was like right before New Year's one year it was it was actually USC or UCLA I can't it was USC um and it was four degrees outside and with the wind chill my forehead was like Frozen and we were like like couple hundred yards from the the Huntsman Center and it was like frozen solid and I'm like man give me a football game in that conditions oh see this is the problem though great you want that at night yeah people will die good I want yeah and I want it to be but they don't even do NFL games like that they're like we one during the day there's like one to two playoff game or one to two NFL games a year where you're just like humans should not be in that weather but we're playing a game in it work those man oh yeah yeah Tyson how you feeling about cam coming back for 24 I feel good um I feel really good about it uh and because not only like cam coming back we know the type of player he is but um from everything that you know we've heard and and has been reported um Cam's not cam Cam's Cam's pulling a uh a coach coach Deion Sanders and saying he's he's bringing this Louie with him I think he's bringing people I think he's bringing people back I mean it's it's it's it's it's Louie that we know I dig it at least we assume but uh he a't he's not coming alone he's gonna be a major force and bringing back some guys that maybe wouldn't have been here next year uh if Cam wasn't gonna come back so to my to knowledge we had Landon King who posted a he posted a picture I think of uh Boardman what's his name kawh Leonard Ka Leonard on top of that of celebrating the title um and then he uh uh running back that broke his face M Mai posted an Instagram post I believe same team's getting back together or something yeah gangs back together or something like that um so I I imagine that it'll have a positive effect on the thing but it it will also I think hopefully have a a pourover effect maybe to to some exterior guys maybe coming in yeah yeah I think so I think let's vet them carefully to what my whole bigger point is is college football's weird now man what the hell what's going on crazy but isn't it crazy how much impact a guy like cam coming to Utah means and like again that that number being you know a little bit lower it really is kind of like a salary capab now it affords some of those guys to be able to stay and maybe bring in some other guys and college football's weird now man I don't I don't know how else to say it I you throw a little Chum in the water and suddenly the Sharks go crazy man dude it's but is crazy how his presence will and his decision will help so there's an old story of Tim TBO and I can't remember who the linebacker would have been at the time I say ohon Hernandez um but they were on their basically recruiting official visit at the same time and the linebacker was so impressed by Tim TBO that essentially was just like I'm going wherever that guy goes um and think it wasn't it Brandon Spikes it I think it was Brandon Spikes um and it feels like there are a handful of guys who have that relationship ship right now with Cam or at least with Utah and cam right the other the other story that I think about is watching like the 30 for 30 on like the Miami teams in the 80s like all those kids from Miami that played against each other and they kind of got together at the end of high school and we're like listen like let's go let's go to let's go to Miami and you know really put them on the map instead of playing against each other let's let's team up and and uh and you know bring Miami and win a National Championship like I think that I I think that is kind of the same sort of energy I think that Cam's going to want to bring to like again like some of these guys that maybe um are like on the on the fence about leaving or coming back or possibly you know guys that are looking for a new team and they see the type of stuff that cams done the last two years like can think that's the kind of guy that I want to take the field with so LeBron James and the banana boat crew right Dwayne Wade and LeBron James Chris Bosch like well even not just the offense right how many LeBron had to transfer but you know what you know what I meant though is like Wayne Wade was the recruiter there he was the quarterback the team the team but even on defense imagine the impact it has on you know how many guys who are either a considering going to the NFL maybe they're right on the edge and you can't quite decide or B are considering maybe entering the transfer portal and seeing where there might be value with other teams which again is kind of the other side of this coin that you have to be prepared for is that some guys will leave and someone some guys will get great offers and not be able to turn those down and that's that's just how it is now and and it's interest it'll be interesting to see or hear or you know find out later perhaps of guys who maybe decided to stay at Utah or decided to um you know hang back a year because cam Rising coming to Utah gives Utah a real shot to a kind of cement your legacy of an of an era um this this camr Utah football era and also win championships in two different leagues um which is not something not a lot of people can say they did and going back to what Andrew saidy can't even say it going going back to Andrew's Point like this was a big thing for um for my my team my senior year in college was um a big thing that they is gonna be on that goal board at the beginning of the 2024 season is not only winning the Big 12 and going to a playoff game but hosting a first round playoff game is GNA be a huge point of emphasis for that team because not like you're not just fighting you know yeah you win the Big 12 and you you know you go to the playoff you win the Big 12 with one loss or no losses and you're bringing a team into Ryle stadium for a playoff game either an ESPN or ABC Prime Time game type situation right like it's going to be the big show in town and it's going to mean something and Ryle Stadium oh if you save that for your save that for your uh what do they call it now dark mode game oh yeah what did you say what Andrew said what Andrew said say it again Andrew I said for the you said what do they call these days and I said the spank bank we were on the same wavelength I think no that's the type stuff that like sports dreams are made of at least for college football right um oh God damn it we've had the opportunity to see some pretty cool stuff here in Utah with the Jazz and and it's huge to like be playing well we had the you know we had the what Andrew you're showing your age here a little bit not all of us were at the finals in the 90s you know what I I say this to people sometimes I'll be like you know what I was I was a young boy coming of age in the 90s I was eight seven eight nine somewhere like there and I just thought because the youth they were playing for Natty the Jazz were back-to-back times for the finals I just thought my teams played for championships I was like oh this is just life like my team's titles haven't seen [ __ ] since um but like I don't know realistically that a single event that that may be the single largest Utah Centric event that like a Utah team was playing in uh because obviously the finals it's seven games right U you did have Bird versus magic which probably the biggest sporting event to ever take place in this state but to have one of your own teams playing in the game that that big I mean that's that's what the dreams are made of right there yeah for sure one point I to go yeah one point I didn't want to make getting off the playoff thing but um you know we we talk about the the nil and how that's changed the world um and and the transfer portal stuff um I think it's also changed drastically in the sense that uh with the cam announcement and nil you're going to see a lot of dudes that uh could potentially take their talents to the NFL and I'm not saying this is what Cole Bishop will do but let's just take go Cole Bishop for a chance here maybe you're willing to say hey yeah I get a second round draft grade or a third round draft grade um where most years I would probably go it's like hey I'm gonna come back on a loaded team potentially playing for a couple titles and I can also maybe put six seven figures in my bank account now uh it's a really good way to potentially soften the blow of of not going into the NFL this year where that just wasn't an option in in yester year so I think Utah's ability to maybe come back and get these guys be like hey look offense is going to be loaded you know Devon V yeah you could go maybe take your chance in the NFL or hey let us see what we can we can do for you next year with Cam healthy and you know let me put you know a a good start to life in your bank account yeah I think yeah I think uh with nil you know a lot of these numbers that we throw out uh you know we it's it's unsubstantiated we hear things we hear Rumblings and that sort of thing uh you know cam certainly you know I think we all we all can say that he you know he he's above that seven figure thresh I shouldn't say above but he's at that seven figure threshold uh you know other guys like it'll be interesting to see yeah no sorry but you know it's it's interesting right so I think that's such a great point where a lot of these guys that were on The Fringe of going to the NFL they're older right obviously you know the first guy you think of in that sense is Jake Murphy uh but you think of other guys in that's in that same realm on this team right Keaton bills Juni these are guys leavon demoney that maybe you know aren't for sure draft picks and would probably have to work their way on onto an NFL roster like they get an they get a chance to you know make a decent amount of money and you know six figures is a lot and let me just throw something out to you guys let's say you're not let's say you're that Fringe Guy where it's like yeah maybe you get you make a team or maybe you're drafted round rounds four through seven um there's like there's now the possibility that you're making more money in college than if you went to the league so you know 100 yeah some guys right you if you're so if you're one of those Fringe guys you're probably gonna get pretty close and if you gave me a 100% chance of making 500 Grand versus a 50% chance of making 750 in the NFL man suddenly those the economics start being like well I like the sound of a 100% chance I don't know that I don't know that anybody outside of Cam is getting 500k maybe maybe one other but yeah I mean we're we're talking you know lower six figures but yeah I agree it's you know you're getting a good amount of money but for those lower-end draft picks right for those day three guys I think that's a real dis a real decision and like I'm not saying it's going to change the like dynamic or the economics around the NFL draft by any means but I'll be curious to see if maybe less underclassmen come out and maybe we see um eventually more more guys staying in college football for longer I I think you do I think we see that I think we're already seeing that right like penck like these guys are all back for a reason and a big part of that is nil like I do think you're seeing guys stick around longer so it'll be inter see how that impacts the draft that that first round the first round guy is like you gotta go right but but those third fourth those middle Round Guys and later um you you definitely have to take a hard look at coming back because is you know nothing's guaranteed um you know you could trip and fall down the stairs the day after the draft and um if you're not on a guaranteed contract too bad so sad whereas these nil deals that they're inking you know there's so bird in the hands worth two in the bush is what you know I heard growing up yeah birds and bushes baby um uh yeah so uh so with Cam back like I think I think we could talk about like the majority of guys that are you know on the fence I think Cam being back helps Utah in the sense like if if they want them back I think having cam back you know helps Utah's Chances with them um because cam is Cam is proven to be a winner you know he's put up numbers he's been in prolific offenses and you know when you win and when you're in you know a good offensive unit that that puts up numbers you know raises the tie for all boats right it lifts the tie for all boats and and everybody's everybody's happy in that sense so I think having cam back is so beneficial because it benefits everybody around him um at least you know when things are going well and you know obviously there's still answers there's still you know questions to be answered with Camp's health and that sort of thing um he's still got to go out and prove that he's still the same guy but understanding like we can assume that he's going to be back and be cam with 18 months of recovery and when we've seen cam at his best and he can you know he can do some things so it's I think it'll be really interesting to see what happens over the next month some decisions still have to be you know finalized for a lot of for a handful of these guys but it sounds like a lot of them are already starting to to Trend towards making those decisions and uh we should be getting other announcements over the next little bit but should be interested to see the the uh total impact of the in case Utah loses they're saving some in case Utah loses the so they can have more good PR if Utah losers to Colorado I'm gonna be so disheartened I'm just gonna be like God do you're telling me brother nobody's more [ __ ] talking on Colorado than this guy ear I don't think there's maybe a single person on on the internet who talks more [ __ ] on the Colorado Buffalo than I do did you ever post that for years that's what I mean and I've been doing it for half a decade now it's not like I just started it's not like I'm like hating on Dion call the bus frauds for five years if they beat Utah just you were calling you might never see cam again you were calling him frauds during that run in 16 weren't you I think it was the next year I think 17 is when it started because there I think it was the year after 16 they started 5 and0 and like anyone who had watched their games was just like this is is the craziest 5-0 team and look at their schedule and look what's coming up like do not trust this team and it was also happened to coincide with my biggest gambling year so I made a lot of money on people overvaluing them which was great um but they ended That season five and seven they lost seven straight to miss a bowl game and ever since it's just been bu frauds and they they have been since I don't think they've won uh I don't think they've won five or more games since then yeah well and they didn't they win when did they get their fourth win who's that against Colorado Nebraska this is good this most recently this season T TCU Nebraska Ariz State Stanford okay Stanford no they lost St it was Ariza State cuz Shir flashed his watch at the students after that's right and they have one right one two three four because it's their only Conference win yeah okay it'll be interesting right so with Utah I mean we had a show plan and this was the very last thing we were going to talk about in the show plan but I figured you know what what else are we going to do but let's let's talk about the Colorado game a little bit Utah I I'm not sure who we're going to see on Saturday I'll say that much I think we could see a lot of faces that maybe we haven't seen this uh this season and that's saying something because we've seen a lot of faces who's left I mean I saw that Luca cerella came in and immediately was injured and had to leave the game it's like now even the like the yeah it's just listen Hayden Fury played on defense against Arizona hey that's put some respect on Hayden Fury's name listen I respect Hayden Fury when he's got his hand in the dirt behind the quarterback when he played fullback earlier this year but when if Hayden Fury is out on the field on defense something's wrong this year come on all these guys playing offense and defense who's going to play special teams what's that going to look like what do you mean what it's going to look like you saw last week what it's going to look like seven points seven points the worse than that who did somebody somebody somebody on Saturday did like the walk- on kickoff team like a team had their their whole kickoff team who was it oh yeah yeah it I know you're I saw the post was it&m I think it was& m and they gave up a touchdown return for a touch no I'm just kidding no no they did the opposite they forced a fumble on the kickoff and recovered it see put some respect on these Walk-On's names they they'll win you some games yeah it was a very cool moment list because there's not there's not one there's not one kid or any group of kids that are going to run down the field and try and kill somebody more than the Walk-Ons that you are giving that opportunity too I remember being that freshman in college when I got put on the kickoff team and I was like I might try and just take someone's head off like that's what you're gonna get from the whole crew gonna end him all of this is why I'm not like stoked that in thinking Utah's definitely gonna win on Saturday um like Colorado's giving Utah some weird games even recently and this game could be weird Steve don't give me those guys there was a there was they have there was a game in the late 20 two years ago they col Colorado hung around for like three quarters or something they were with within one score in the third or fourth quarter something like that 2021 yeah or call or I I can't remember yeah yeah like yeah I I agree Colorado and I think it'll depend on what they have coming into this game as well uh and we'll talk more we'll go more in depth on the uh on the game in the uh VIP OTR I don't think that Colorado is gonna be the most pumped to be there either right I mean checked out too they can't get two wins this week so they really are one two3 Cancun yeah bro they're out they're ready and in the nil AR they really have the money to go to Cancun so they're like they got taking the whole team what are you talking about first place tickets already purchased here's the question is coming lake is Dion will Dion be and on the sideline at rise Stadium on Saturday what's the alternative like dying in a car accident between now and then surgery no some sort of sickness or surgery like sickness I remember when Joe coach Haven seen coach Prime no he did but and then I remember Joe from the hospital Joe no he was in a hospital bed in hospital bed in the stadium but I think I think they lost like 29 to zero too he gave us like the thumbs up from the Joe pno like uh he got his knee taken out and he coached from the Press Box um yeah he'll be here I think he'll be here I can't yeah I can't think of a coach just sitting out a game or like that would be that would be pretty wild he'll be there that would be insane yeah that would he might be he might be in the booth but he'll be there like oh it's cold I'm gonna go up in yeah he's been cold before he lives in Boulder like yeah Boulder he used to it by now maybe I don't know I'm I'm interested to see that Dynamic though I'm curious to see if if coach Whittingham and and Coach Sanders have an exchange before before the game like I know coaches typically together absolutely will I'm just curious to see it I wish I could have like a little micro like a little Mega hearing aid to you know to hear the conversation and that sort of thing like I'm I'm fascinated to see that yeah I I think Kyle I mean Kyle's one of those guys that you know he always he he always puts respect on his opponent especially before the game Joe Glenn excluded but everybody else um you know you I've heard disrespectful before the game to Joe Glenn I don't know but I can't imagine that you knew what you were gonna do all game long and you you played the nice card beforehand maybe yeah yeah but I mean it seems more wittingham to compliment him and his team and then oh you're so good we appreciate you being oh by the way for the record I had a buddy that was on that team as a walk-on and he said in his entire time at the University of Utah that Kyle Winningham he never saw Kyle Whittingham more mad um than when they did not recover that onside kick um I don't think he was there in 200 N when they lost to BYU which I'm assuming was pretty high on the list as well but apparently Whit was pretty pissed that they didn't recover the Joe Glenn onside kick do we do we know what he did do we know like how what did or what Joe Glenn did to Kyle Whittingham yeah so he he he guaranteed a win that week oh that's right guaranteed a win and I think he guaranteed like a big win and it was in like a booster luncheon I think but it made its way to the press and it was you know Joe Glenn guarantees win over Utah and Kyle winingham didn't didn't like that that makes sense so up 40 to zero um because also they didn't let also a good also so a great PR move frankly right like it's it's defensive PR it's no you don't you don't say that kind of stuff like that even to your boosters if there's a there's a hot mic or a camera um keep Utah's name out your mouth yeah well I I kind of like that you know like you know you can you can get Petty in the you know the postgame press conference and you or you can just do it out on the field and for everybody to see like not only did we curb stomp you you know then I tried to take the ball back as well and do it again I I liked it you know somebody's somebody's going to talk some smack on you I have no problem with you uh taking out on him on the field like you want to pile drive him through the center center of the earth go right ahead you don't like it stop it oh I can stop it I do I do have one more if we may get back to um matters more closely at hand than Kyle Winningham and Joe Glenn um who's the most important so the cam Rising question is answered who's the most important question left to answer or like who's the most non-cam person to come back or that or that we in in your minds to have come back who would add the most value for next year and that can be someone who has the opportunity to transfer or go to the NFL um whatever to me it would be Cole bishop or Luther Ellis sorry or uh I say Luther Ellis i' Love Luther Ellis was uh coming back no to me it's either probably rather have Jonah Jonah or or Cole son vaki presents some cool things because obviously he can go both ways um but I also feel like he's more likely to come back to Cole but those would be my two uh Cole's get a really good draft grade I think right and Jonah just when you're anytime you're that good at getting sacks I mean that's just a skill that's like being a left tackle in the NFL right and being an an Elite pass rusher you're gonna you know you're just there's a ton of value in there those would be my one of my two if those guys came back man I would really be like the table is set no Bryson Barnes chocking Andrew um no but I would also Jonah Jonah Ellis is my answer um that's he's I think you're right like if he's as good of a path rusher as we're seeing right now um another year development another another couple of moves learned this off season and he'll be the next truly great Utah defensive lineman well and um I mean I obviously I'm not sure what happened with the injury there I'm not going to speculate on it um but it I was pretty interested I thought it was interesting that he was dressed for the game and then ultimately sounds like he couldn't go and so he's out for the remainder of the one one game right um the season but uh I don't know how that may impact his his draft versus return am I crazy for thinking we're more likely to lose Jonah than Cole to the NFL yeah I think it's going to come down to their personal you know grades and priorities but I mean the thing is that's a position that's just so much more valuable than a safety at least I think in the NFL if you're an Elite pass rusher you're gonna get a bag people take a little bit more of a chance on you so I think you could be on to something there I think Cole's the probably the better player right now but she's not I don't think Jonah's going to be a again eval grades whatever combines pending I think Jonah has more to gain by coming back for that reason like I don't think he's an Elite pass rusher right now I like an elite NFL pass rusher right now I think with another year he could be and that one it would be like okay now we're talking number one pick type potential stuff um and rather than right now thinking like okay is this a is this a day two guy um how early in day two does this could Jonah Ellis go um and that's a big money Gap too if if if he could get that High um anyway that's that's where I would say whereas I don't think Cole Bishop has as much to gain by coming back another year but that's anyway my my my opinion I don't I I think my other reasoning would be I don't think Cole has the I don't think Cole has the risk of losing that grade as much as Jonah does Cole can come back and I think his grade's not going to go down at all he he'll it can only really go up I Jonah's gonna have to get like 14 or 15 sacks next year to keep the same hype he has right now I think that's just my know he could come back I think I think it's a strike while the Iron's hot type of situation but I think it's that depends on what he does right because like in the Big 12 he might not face enough quarterbacks where he can get sacks right like it's just like these running gun offenses and he just it might be more about what what he does different um you know what he's developed on and you know run support things like that that's the kind of stuff that really he could also legitimately have play six more games next year right you out sit out the final four this year um and you know potentially next year if you play in a big 12 title game and a playoff game like you playing extra six games I mean you add half a sack a game you know that's still pretty good chance to up them sack totals yeah it'll be interesting to see what happens with with Jonah I think he wouldd be best served to come back I think for him it's about physical development and you know he need needs to p on a little bit more weight probably and showcase a little bit more um ability against the Run he just needs to round out his game I think and uh I think he would uh be best served to to come back Cole Bishop I agree with you Tyson I don't know that he has I don't know that I think he's got a pretty solid floor I think coming back may not you know impact him too much negatively he can gain a little bit but uh you know I don't think he is in position to hurt himself Jonah like I think can really kind of Sol ify his status with another year um you know and with whatever he's dealing with right now that may be a concern for NFL organizations uh in evaluating him and his potential and so that'll be something to be mindful of as well uh beyond that I I don't know who else uh has you know a strong case to enter the draft early um you know Junior tuna is probably your most NFL is defensive tackle but I'm not sure he's had the year that uh would uh would warrant him leaving early if he can come back for another year so uh you know it'll be interesting well and you still may also have uh still a little bit just because the oversaturation oversaturation with um covid numbers and eligibility you still may have a draft class that uh could be a little bit larger in size still coming back from from the sure yeah sure um yeah I think and I think like look like you want you want to be entering the draft on on your best foot you want to put your best foot forward and I'm not sure you know a lot of these guys that were we were talking about as potential you know draes before the season I'm not sure a lot of them have had the the sort of season where they have put their best foot forward this year and so I think that could also be something to consider uh for a return as well next year and again just you know raises all boats and it's it's a beneficial thing it's a real thing and I think you know for a lot of guys that'll be a a big factor in their decision-making process so um yeah we'll get a lot of decisions over the next month I think from from a lot of these guys so uh you know Utah's outlook for 2024 and the possibility of you know a big 12 Championship kind of depends on what happens over the next few weeks with these guys beyond that um anything else fellas no I don't I don't think so the you know we're going to save a bunch of the breakdown for the Colorado game for the OTR and uh that should that should be a good breakdown um and some other things that have been happening maybe some contract discussion about coaching Carousel and I am excited and we we we'll we'll probably touch on this in the OTR but I am excited to see who uh who Texas A&M makes generationally wealthy um here in the next few months I still think about to hit that lottery I don't think it's going to happen like I don't know if the odds are over 50% but I think I still think it could be dbo I think hear me out I think Tyler from sparenberg there's already been rumors that he's a plant right that he a plant and motivated yeah no he was a plant all right but he was a plant by Dabo also great at PR and his staff who because if this deal was going to happen it didn't start happening when Jimbo was fired right they've been talking for for weeks month years maybe right in secret theyve met him at an airport hotel um somewhere because that's where these deals happen um and they've talked about this nine months ago now this was dabo's way of establishing some precedents so that he can say see see this is what I have to deal with no matter what I've given them all these national championships I brought I took Clemson where they couldn't go but Tyler from Spartanburg and all the people like him are what drove me away and that's why no I left for Texas A&M and you know also I love that what yeah I was say what size of the what what size would the bag have to be because we talked about this and he's currently making um his current contracts like aund like 115 125 million um it's going to have to go north of that I mean could could we see a $200 million bag I mean Jimbo got what 95 or whatever but then with 95 but that was also that's almost been what uh six years ago now five years five years ago I think I think it would be I think I would expect whoever Texas amm hires to get paid something like $12 million a year and I'm guessing they're not going to get anyone for less than like an 8 to 10 year deal um that feels like where we're ending up is worse than what they had before probably not 100% guaranteed right they've probably learned some of their lesson there um but I think they're still gonna throw a bag P I want I want to shout out though the guy uh from the Discord the wayo Rojo that uh Texas A&M and Dabo are the perfect match that cult leader plus the cult fan base equals super cult that would be a perfect pairing Texas a&n fans and dbo Sween dabo's not going I will say this right now dabo's not going there for 12 million a year they're gonna have to significantly upgrade that I think that's one million year in Texas baby no state tax I don't know what South Carolina state tax looks like that's that's Topline Revenue you're not what you think you're going to pay for a single thing um after that that's your income that's your that's your play money well it's also like you remember uh he's currently making 115 though you he's gonna have to he's gonna need a bump you know just for his you know for his be more how much was the increase from Jimbo's contract at Florida State to so I looked that up after we were texting and I think he went from about five and a half million to 9.3 million so following that logic it needs to be somewhere Deo needs to get something like 18 million a year yeah if I had to Peg it uh a number I'm saying that they're going to go something along the lines of a $150 million 10year deal um if you get eight years maybe you get them for like 130 million over eight uh but it's gonna be it's gonna be a bag and a half that's we're we're talking like a Mel Tucker and a half but I think I think they're gonna this is them they they swing big I think I I mean I just don't see them going for a Jed fish you know I don't see them making a good reasonable hire whoever they hire will either surprise us or be truly absurd in in the number that comes out I think it I honestly I can't wait I think there's a bigger chance that they make a worse higher longterm in order to to win the press conference on day one I feel like that's Theo there and that's so important that it just takes out the reasonable hires like the Jonathan Smith's the Jed fishes witing hams I still I stand by it I'm on record and I I'll say it again if they goth for Kyle Whittingham hundred million he should take that deal that's a good deal take that deal if I'm Kyle's whittingham's Council though I'm saying no you gotta you gotta beat I need to be making more than swiny or you know some of the other candidates they may have been looking at uh because that's a that's an easy thing to to win in some of these situations contract negotiations you say hey look at what that guy's making I need to be making more than him um it happened with uh you guys remember when Bronco left Buu to go to Virginia he got uh $3.3 million a year deal and U the next like within a week or so winningham's extension put him at 3.35 um and I don't think there's any coincidence to that figure um coming out so quickly on the heels of that I think that's a a real thing you know and you're just leveraging right so um yeah if KY winingham if you can get a $120 million bag no state tax it's not a bad idea there you have it South Carolina's state tax is% by the way see see I mean you're californ oh my God state tax isn't that bad but you're also paying the problem with California is is you're paying like 18% between state tax uh if you're also an LA because you're paying that County tax as well so really kills you yeah so C you're looking California Dabo would be looking at like thir 12 to 13 yeah percent crazy plus plus 5% County tax y municipality tax damn well uh will wrap this one up for the Utah Texas A&M Clemson SL dbo state income tax
