Pittsburgh Penguin Star Kevin Hayes has paid tribute to his late former college teammate Johnny godo three years after the death of his own brother Hayes posted an emotional message on social media following the tragic death of godo and his brother Matthew who were both killed by a driver suspected of being drunk behind the wheel Hayes post saw him upload a picture of Johnny reaching out to give his nephew Bo oh high five captioning the picture love you John say hello to Bose's for me Bo's father is former NH lur Jimmy Hayes who died in August 2021 on his son's second birthday Jimmy and Johnny were teammates at Boston College together and continued to hold a strong relationship despite never playing for the same professional team the deaths take a further heart ranching turn as godo and his brother were allegedly riding their bikes in their Hometown in New Jersey the night before their sister's wedding after their passing Katie G reportedly canceled her wedding with which was scheduled for Friday afternoon the driver of the SUV that hit and killed the godr brothers Sean M Higgins has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide he is said to have confessed to drinking a 56 beers prior to driving his Jeep Grand Cherokee he was reported to have smelled strongly of alcohol which contributed to his impatience and reckless driving a statement by the Columbus Blue Jackets paid tribute to their late Star saying the Columbus Blue Jacket are shocked and devastated by this unimaginable tragedy Johnny was not only a great hockey player but more significantly a loving husband father son brother and friend we extend our heartfelt sympathies to his wife Meredith his children Noah and Johnny his parents their family and friends on the sudden loss of Johnny and Matthew Johnny played the game with great joy which was felt by everyone that saw him on the ice he brought a genuine love for hockey with him everywhere he played from Boston College to the Calgary Flames to Team USA to the Blue Jackets he thrilled fans in a way only Johnny hawy could the impact he had on our organization and our sport was profound but pales in comparison to the indelible impression he made on everyone who knew him Johnny embraced our community when he arrived 2 years ago and Columbus welcomed him with open arms they added we will miss him terribly and do everything that we can to support his family and each other through this tragedy at this time we ask for prayers for the godo family and that their privacy be respected as they grieve Hayes was traded in the off season from the street Louis Blues to the Pittsburgh Penguins where he would have played in the NHL's Metropolitan Division alongside G with the Columbus Blue Jack
