has to [Applause] serve ready play great start would be New York with a few planes overhead and this one just uh forcing sit pass to wait as we get ready to kick things off in grandstand what a match this could be sure why people are flying away from the tennis what are they doing 15 low terms of the matchup obviously sits a pass huge serve huge forehand you know cck and a is similar attributes to be honest with you both players are going to be looking to to hit big into the their opponent's backand Corner try to control as many points as they can you know expecting a a big hitting contest here so little early opening here for kakis 15 just trying to rush sit he pass on that backhand Wing today if he can the he oh oh slow start 15 14 Pedro sit a pass just leaning forward in the white shirt and the uh black cap is his coach here in in in New York the Greek deis Cup captain Demetrius hini colal what to pass obviously part of the D cup set up but there he is there had out father apostos of course not in the the coaching box this stage of his son Stephanos his [Music] career tough Miss there for coak not able to capitalize on the slow start from sit pass good start from kakis another chance coming up advantage kakis game well it's a very sloppy start it's a perfect start no strapping or anything around that left knee for konakis which is good news that has been really bothering him in the last couple of months going all the way back to Queens that was on the 16th of June actually had to give tarot Daniel in qualifying there and then yeah had to then retire at Wimbledon in his second round against Luka pu had to retire in Washington in his third round against Seb cord having had match points I believe in that match as well was a thing of beauty from kakis a strange start to the point he almost Switched Off thinking since pass's return was going to miss but he's finished it here with a stunner no celebration just a look at the line still not happy better from six there yeah just uh in relation to 15 the injuries you mentioned and recent uh activity from kakas I think a good decision not to play in Cincinnati we had a good run in Canada came through two rounds in qualifying beat gon Fe in round one had an epic six in the third lost to her catch it would have been a tight turnar around to get to ciny and put some strain on on the body I think wise to prioritize his his physical health knowing that his game was in a good place and and give himself every chance of a a strong US Open here Ian he did a good job just to qualify in Montreal didn't didn't have it easy there C by bystra and then beat Gail monf in the first round as Colin alluded to was close to they getting the the better of her catch took the opening set there 14 15 decent run at roling gas earlier this year made it through to the third round there lost to Taylor Fritz in five although he had already played a five Setter in his first round a five Setter in his second round and then another five Setter in round three against Fritz oh [Applause] 40 30 another pretty uncharacteristic error behind that forehand from cityy pass so kakis backs up the break kakis leads two games to L first set yeah that's the kind of miss that suggests he's sort of not yet fully adjusted to the conditions that ball just flying on him lost control of it long cuz he's I mean he's been here a while now he played in the the mix Madness didn't he last week that was out on Ash with uh with his girlfriend actually po bota they ended up winning that he been out on ash practicing quite a bit as well sorry of course freedom of movement the US Open here yeah in the upper balls isn't it controlled in the lower balls they can come in after each game ushers allowing them uh into their seats as long as they're they're pretty uh efficient in their movement and try not interrupt plate I think it's a great initiative there'll probably be a few teeing issues as players just adjust but it's absolutely about the uh the fan EXP experience you know and one thing that can be frustrating is when you you have to wait for sort of three games to get in an hour can't you [Music] sometimes there C15 B t50 game 55 pretty big with that second serve return coak so 6 passes off and running still Trails by the break 19 the last time he actually did taste victory in New York that was against IL rashu and then unfortunately for him then had to give Raphael Nadal a walkover in the second round wasn't even able to take to court that day had to retire in his first ever main draw match at the US Open that was back in 2015 against rishel gas that was in a fifth set he's a player kakis with uh well a huge game but you know with with sort of head scratching stats linked to his career you know at this stage you have career high ranking of 65 in the world with his game it's sort of um it's hard to believe you know never only won one main draw match here at the US Open for it a great hardcore player this is a guy that beat Roger feder at Miami in in 2018 you know six in the third yeah remember that match so it's just been a tough career for him so many injuries over the years just stop start nature but you know career high 65 you go all the way back to 2015 he was inside the top 70 in the world yeah at that stage you're thinking this guy's I don't know top 30 top 20 potential but then from October 2015 until May 2017 he played just one match yeah that was the shoulder injury wasn't it at initially early stage of his career and it's kind of felt since then that he's always been coming back from something yeah it's been a a cruel list of injuries for kakas but he's still well capable you know certainly surpassing that career high of 65 in the world he's 28 years of age if he can stay fit and healthy capable of putting a run together e won a title on tour that came in Adelaide start 2023 excuse me start of 22 getting my years mixed up he made the semis last year I think this this first set now in the context of this match is is really important for konak is the slow start from s to pass he's a break up I think it's important that he sort of stays ahead sees out this first set with a break advantage and keeps sit the pass down keeps him uncomfortable cuz obviously sit pass if he settles you know is capable of a very high level yeah it's well done from K his big point there the 30 all yeah came up with a a good backhand pass here sit the pass gave himself a lot of ground to cover but he was Keen to go into the weaker wing of konakis the back hand and then able to just hold and finish with the the relatively easy forehand just unable to control the final Vol so kakis escapes from 30 all and maintains that break advantage Co neis leads three games to one first set well if you don't have the US Open app I highly suggest you get it you can uh just get everything to guide you through the next couple of weeks of the main draw that's available on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store as well live 3D views of all singles matches available on the app I've still got to check that out I'm intrigued by that 15 long much better serving and when he's on he has one of the certainly biggest first serves in the game oh w a St pick up from Cy pass basically took that on the half volley oh that'll do it as well for kakis a rocket off his for hand this time went for something similar on the final point of sit pass's last service game clearly a a tactical intention if he gets a second Ser on his for hand he's going to go after it game c yeah it's much better from Cy past looks in a slightly better Rhythm now on ser still got to try and find a break back here Trails [Applause] 3-2 to see so many people out on grand stand already of course yesterday day one of the US Open drew the biggest single day crowd in the event history 74,700 came in day session crowd of just under 43,000 oh last second C yeah it's it's actually remarkable what the US Open has become yeah last played here personally 2016 I was going to ask how much as it changed oh my goodness I mean obviously the facility but just everything that us have done I mean forecasting over a million fans for the first time now that's obviously massively boosted by what happened last week which used to just be known as qualif fight yep and it was sort of this event that took place and you find out who the 16 players in the main draw were but you know it's that's not just one part of what they call fan week which is uh just an amazing week so many initiatives so many new initiatives you mentioned the mixed Madness but we've had Legends of the US Open you know Del potra was back sabatini Agassi rodic was on coure you know wasaki who I know is still in the draw but you know just great of the game out there playing kids day a new record 48,000 I think I'm 48,000 yeah I mean this tournament is or event I should say it's not just about Elite professional tennis but it's you know tennis as a whole isn't it I mean that kid stay 48,000 free rackets getting handed out just promoting the game at all levels it's uh it's incredible really is just the fact the whole of fan week is complet completely free as well so many people through the door so many kids through the door as well trying to inspire that next Generation game nice simple hold to love for kakis neis leads four games to two first set did you always feel that there was just a kind of a different buzz when you came to this tournament to the other slams Yeah a different yeah they're all unique you know here at the US Open obviously in New York it has a New York feel to it you know it's uh it's loud at times it's a it's a big atmosphere there's music there's you know it's got everything that you'd expect from from a visit to to New York to be honest with you you know I was over on Armstrong Armstrong and you can hear the trains going by and it's it's a great atmosphere inside the court yeah it's it's it's the US Open and but equally you know the Australian Open is the Australian Open it's a different atmosphere the happy slam everyone's done in January the sun's out wi and the tradition they all white you can hear a pin drop on Center Court you wouldn't you wouldn't ever want them all to converge into the same Vibe yeah they're all unique and uh that's what makes him special he that backand slice quite often so far 6y pass yeah it's an important shot for him a shot that in all honesty hasn't been as as good as he's needed it throughout his career you know I think if he could develop a really top backhand slice it would it would help him ability on return but also in the rally he has settled into this match you know we were talking before we came on a who's going to win this one and it felt like anything was possible yeah very hard to predict you know either player could win in straights either player could win in five nothing I've seen so far changing my field very hard to predict where this is going to go that's a final back from kakis C pass just anticipating him to go crosscore into the Open Court there but just straight back in behind him another little opening here for the Aussie 30 all [Music] 40 [Applause] 30 wait please wait thank you yeah much more like it from Cy pass I need to hit that forhead as we know he can do hold 30 there it's just having a little word already taught the chair umpire about someone I'm assuming in the crowd that might just be saying a few UNT things in the direction of him but just keep an eye out for anything that happens here he's got new balls [Applause] love that's a big second serve there you know most players are going to hit the majority of second Serv to the sit pass back hand to avoid being attacked sit pass is expecting that so it's a well it's a brave serve a Smart Serve using the new balls going quick out wide to the forehand just keeping him guessing he's struggling to land those first serves so far today just seven of 17 for konakis but when he's made the first serve he's not lost the point behind it [Applause] 15 forer percentage this season is 64 so as you say he's uh struggling so far just at 9 percent of first servers have gone in so all the coaches this year will'll have a tablet in front of them that feeds all the data into them so they'll be fully aware of everything that's going on I'm sure tenasi will mind you don't think he he need to be told the players can't see that tablet it's very much up to the coach to decide what information they relay to their players and what they don't he got the potential to to hurt him you know possibly Right Here and Now 1530 continue to play stepanos sit to pass on your second serve then y you know you run the risk of being broken look a better R there looks like quick to me last couple of Misses have been big servers but in the net going be anxious to go big on the serve you just got to stay relaxed you got to keep your tempo just taking his time here I think he is just trying to control his breathing and make sure he's ready for this big point the there again it's just a little quick that fan shouting out between first and second Serv has clearly bothered him look to ory tur who doesn't say anything at this stage and that's well that's it's [Applause] really what's he doing there he's gone for first Ser for a second yes it's annoying but it's a classic case of something out with his control to you know really rattling him clear his mind here it's been going on for a little while hasn't it yeah well rather than making announcement it seems like ory Tor is going a more discreet way asking is it maybe some ushers or some other officials just to to have a word what does he do on this second surf it's been a really good point there in fairness to kakis right back on it I like the reaction you know if there is something bothering you feel you're being hard done by you've got to channel it into using it as motivation not you know becoming annoyed and gifting points to the the opponent definitely something l h would have done yeah imagine staring right at the person taking everyone on no Advantage Co [Applause] NE he's Rusty 2001 Champion here Hu it's absolute clinic in the final against SZ if you remember it's 7661 61 don't think he missed the return all night [Applause] [Music] oh jee's gone massive again on that second serve another one at 123 milph another double fault in the game [Applause] [Applause] well it's a bit of a head loss of the game from tenti kakis couple of really cheap points that he threw away there because of the distraction of the member of the crowd and sit pan he's back on serve at four games all yeah that was a bit of a shocker just two first serves made in the game and uh I just wonder if that was the real root of his frustration yes someone in the crowd clearly bothering him but my goodness he'll look back on that game with some regret if he loses this opening set two double faults two second serves that he hit exactly the same Pace actually both of them at 123 mph both of them missing the mark [Applause] love 15 only the second time that he's come forward today ten kakas he's won both points though 15 let's for three stood his ground there Kaka C he pass went straight at him just a little too much heat on the forehand [Applause] yeah there is the the tablet that the coaches have so much data that's fed into them be quite tough actually for a coach to know what to tell the player what not to you don't want to kind of bombard them with information well that's the art of coing 30 except knowing what to see and when to see it if you were if you were shouting on continuously you know sort of adjustments based on the stats would just be confusing wouldn't it be detrimental to the performance you got to try and pick out the key thing and deliver at the right time knowing when not to speak absolutely Mastered by some of the best cultures yeah that's good C pass Cy pass has made a living P really over the years taking that for so early and he's ahead [Applause] now so things have changed out on Grand Stan Court andasi kakas who was a break in front now serving to stay in this opening set dangerous game here for coak when he was sat down at the uh the change of ends he was looking pretty dejected pretty negative in his thinking almost like he's he's still not let that 4-3 game go you have to just clear your mind and always look to the next game the next point that Miss hit just brings sit pass into the game a good return what a bonus it would be for C pass to make this opening set having started it so poorly in all honesty how many people are out here already just coming up to midday over 8,000 capacity on grand stand relatively new court open in 2016 third biggest Court here US Open of course Arthur asash and the Armstrong stadiums 4 piing well he suddenly found the first serve four in a row came back with interest quicker than the serve something about a one-handed back camera turn that just flushed you know this is like a throwback isn't it days gone by when there were a lot more one-handers around the top of the game that is time to Perfection oh yeah that's what he's so good at Cy pass just transitioning forward after he hits one of those big for hands actually the depth of the previous backhand really that set the point up for him though combination of shots from the Greek yeah you're exactly right I remember back 2019 when sitas won the Tour finals he was so good then at transitioning up the court for me as good as fedra at that time taking the ball early coming in finishing at the net that's when he's at his best oh that was an example there touched on it earlier in the set the six by slice [Applause] where I mean it's in the court but it just doesn't really do anything it floats and it just sat there to be attacked by konakis you know the very best slices are knifed a lot more they're going to stay low and shoot through the court and and almost be difficult for the opponent game does just about come through the game pass with half an opportunity there getting to juice on we go gam all oh yeah it's as good inside in forehand as you likely to see same situation though wasn't it a bit more of a defensive ball from Cabas but the slice is floating brilliant footwork there and whips the forehand for a winner that was fantastic 15 [Music] t 10 C [Applause] four that's the combination of shots that is that the foundation of his game big S big forehand from the middle of the Court not many better when he gets it right [Music] [Applause] 403 big Serv from stepan City Pass 125 mph out wide and for the second time now ten k going to try and have to hold serve to stay in this opening set so one more chance here for Stephan oitti pass to try and get this first set done without the stress of a tie break [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh [Applause] oh I think he knows just how important those opening points of these kind of games can be siy pass that was just a pretty routine second serve return that he's put into the net there it's the data that the US Open actually released a few years ago about how important winning that opening point was if you win the opening point on serve this is it in men's singles at the US Open Your chances go up to 89% of winning that game if you lose the opening point it goes down to 62% so big 27% differential there between winning and and losing that first point 14 L well the first meeting their only meeting so far 2021 Australian Open went to a first set tie break we're heading there again played two tie breaks in that match konak has won them both since pass got the other three sets now game serving from kak is Ace number five and pretty much an hour exactly played and a tie break required tie first serve feels like it has improved slightly for konakis the last couple of games still not particularly high percentage 42 for seres could be one of the keys to this break up that's it careless start there forehand it's usually routine for CIP pass one zero coook [Applause] exactly the same serve that he hit his final serve of his last service game in this set serve as he can hit two in a [Applause] row two big serves coming up now for Cy pass after that loose forehand to start off this tie break the sun is just in that awkward position now as well just above above him was just checking out the Ball Toss [Music] there not happy there be to wait by konakis but two in the chair explaining was okay because it was something with uh regards to coak as his racket that he was just adjusting tough start to the breaker here for sit pass oh yeah absolutely crucial point for Cy pass there just to stay in touch and these are the moments you know you you ask the question about you know players low on confidence and and belief these are the tough moments tiebreak situation sets on the line matches on the line where if you're not in that sort of winning routine and and full of confidence it just everything's just that much harder my goodness 51 around there from sit pass two off the full hand and then that second serve backhand return that he's just missed nice time to go on a little run like that nine of the last 10 going the way of the Aussie so great in this breaker B one yeah just found his rhythm in the last two service games of the set and he's it's his best serving of the set so far in this breaker what a time to do it wi pleas it's a pass in a rush again oh oh good second Ball Toss in the first over was way across to the left rushing to the line he he's looking very rattled here yeah not dealing with the pressure of this time ring well at all three so two of the five set points saved decent return at full stretch on that forand this becomes a big point [Applause] thank you [Applause] can you believe it it's a shaky point there parking I mean was the pass even going in I'm not sure it was hit hard by S pass it was highis with a sort of hopeful attempt at the volley and chance here for sitp pass to get out of a real Hal [Applause] oh trying to gets there ten kak his fifth set points and the LC takes the opening set konakis to start us off in the seconds [Music] 50 definitely found a nicer Rhythm on surf in that tie break H three or four aces yeah it was a real frustration for him how many first serves he was missing majority of that first set but as you say seems to have found a nice Rhythm and Tempo looks more relaxed on it sometimes when you try and serve big you almost force it and muscle the ball in that usually means the percentage drops oh it's a special return from Cy pass you think back to the return at 4-1 in the tie break where he sort of was in an in between position that time right up on the Baseline took the ball early got it a more comfortable height there that's a that's a you know doesn't get any better than that return really positive there 15 30 was an important serve still under a little bit of pressure here see at 30 Old oh so an immediate opportunity City Pass [Applause] good intensity in this opening game this will be just what the doctor ordered G so perfect start to set two for stepan oti pass just what he would have been wanting first game second did an okay job on serve in that opening set but below where he would expect to be just 68% of points one behind his his first serve oh yeah back edge of the Baseline fabulous return oh and again what two returns in a row that have been Plum on the Baseline Su pass kind of shrugging his shoulders might surrender that break Advantage straight away here the Greek 15 [Applause] 30 3 miles an hour shy of his quickest today 130 he's got up to averaging 120 pretty much exactly the same for kakis as [Applause] well so two break back points [Applause] [Applause] left to three oh that one's long as well G Ki and Kaki break straight back can you believe believe it such a promising start for tit breaking the opening game of this set and then just hands it right back to konakis it's uh the struggles continue for for the Greek couple of good returns first two points there for for konakis that just kind of set him on his way but again it's a couple of loose forehand there the back end of the game from Cy pass last year he was winning 79% of points behind his first serve it's gone down to 75.6% this year so near enough a 4% drop off doesn't sound a huge amount but it is in tennis terms oh [Music] hey l [Applause] yeah good pressure there 1 15 he thinks it's to be looking for that play as often as possible you know the chance to get up the court approach to the konakis back hand maybe just half a chance again here [Applause] oh help come on come on come [Applause] on now requesting a look at the call I think well long B just drifting on him again [Music] de [Applause] 24 mil hour three three clicks off his quickest of the match a 10 a compared to just two for sit pass he's certainly out serving him in that regard [Applause] kakis and a good bounce back after being broken in the opening game leads to two games to one leads by two games to one we had our first honey juice didn't we last week very nice too yeah you got to treat yourself from time to time y we're off the job obviously still plenty to figure out here for a Sit Pass 2 three it's hard work for him so far do you know how much money was made just on honey juice alone at the US Open last year oh my goodness I can only imagine I think they ran out of cops didn't they I think they did for for a time yeah demand out weighing Supply um are you going to tell me $9.9 million just on honey juice alone is good I have to say they are nice there we go oh 15 get to keep the glass afterwards yeah that's the bonus isn't it as all the uh the past winners of the men's and women's singles always nice to take home and maybe uh have a bit of fun with some trivia yeah testing your kids ni response [Applause] there first percentage in this set for sitz the pass just 29 four or 14 it's an alarming number that was his quickest serve of the day 131 milph he just looks off balance to me sort of he's always had a a serve where he falls slightly to his left but looks exaggerated today it's good stuff from kakis this would really hurt Stephan Cy pass if he would to be broken here after missing out on those two break points in the last [Applause] game oh [Music] [Applause] 403 good quick body serve there konakis was inching forward looking to attack a beautiful backend from pakis he two-hander well definitely the weaker win but particularly down the line he's capable of some big strikes and he found one there Advantage 50 another first serve missed and that is a really uh ugly effort on the the second he's he's falling way to the left he's off balance hitting the serve essentially and you're always going to be inconsistent when that's the case up Demetrius trying to encourage him there he's looking a little jaded at this stage I think sit pass which makes that Miss just a real shocker I think just Keen to get the ball onto the back hand and cut it a little too fine I mean that is that's not even halfway up the now yeah Lally but he gets away with it5 just five of 21 first serves that he's made in this set so far three games second really hot and bothered to me yeah so very red in the face looks like he's sort of sortly at this stage fighting a little physically did well just to come through that game I wanted to bring him on board the uh the Greek Davis Cup captain someone that he knows someone that he trusts just in his corner I think they are officially only just working together for the US Open but there is scope for that to then go forward for maybe the rest of the [Music] [Applause] year for [Music] there l [Applause] 4 K left game so nice stress free hold to love for Tennesse you can all remember it at the Australian Open last year against Andy Murray 5 hours and 45 minutes for that one one of them came here US Open back in 2017 against Yanko tip sarovich that was 4 hours and 10 minutes well that was the perfect Point really lovely move just got the volley wrong and tough start of the game big game here maybe not the worst thing just letting out some of that frustration oh [Applause] 5 mentioned the first serve percentage now at 26 perc in this set for sit pass 6 of 23 for the season coming into this match of 61 % normally one of his big weapons is the first serve a good one there but coak is able to to answer with a good return he's really starting to look on the edge here since a pass let for [Music] 30 oh [Music] is moving in for that second s return and if you do that and don't quite catch it you're always exposed very tough to sort of defend the court I would be tempted as kak is here to maybe move back on some secondary returns and ensure you make life difficult for sit a pass that's a good return 34 after being a breakdown in this second set tenti konakis with the chance to break here and try and serve this set [Applause] out well he's barely made a first serve in the set but that is a very timely one there [Applause] looking to Sur Vol again there mixing things up is it another sign that he's maybe just feeling it trying to keep the points nice and quick really good it was a risky play on the second serve serve voling and he dug out a brilliant first volley Advantage second set potentially on the line in this game and just caught a piece of the sideline there just yeah got the second the finishing volley right as well oh so 6 pass comes through the game has to save a break point GES second we go four games all are we heading to another tie break it was interesting with the sort of B there wasn't it just not sure where sit pass is physically here big opportunity for tenasi konakis only ever won one main draw match here at the US Open thank you he's a set up and like the way sitz pass is looking if kakis can win this second set it's hard to see I'm not going on to win yeah oh 15 l [Applause] left for three since you P another player who has played lots of lots of lengthy matches over the course of his career 10 matches that have gone over the 4H hour mark 5 hours and 9 Minutes the longest that he's played that was at Roland gas against Stan V rinka back in 2019 couple of matches here that have gone very long as well Murray in 2021 4 hours 49 [Applause] [Applause] oh completely collapsed on that second serve kakis I mean it's a very peculiar stage of the match isn't it sit a pass seemingly struggling now konakis looking out with sorts maybe just the tension both players recognizing I'm sure how important this second set is big for serve there Fair field oh another opportunity here for Cy pass 3040 yeah similar to the move he made the start of the previous game this time got the volley just right big Point coming here [Applause] oh my goodness can you believe what a time for an ER of misjudgment like that for teni kakis five GES to four second first kakis he look certain that this was going long it's on the clock so far in the second and Stephan oitti pass is serving to try and level this match up at a set of pece it's another s volley from Cy pass we're seeing those more and more often as this match goes on don't know whether that's a tactical thing whether that's a physical thing that he is just struggling a little bit maybe a bit of both he's almost getting into Alexander bu territory where he just kind of ser voles every point for a stage I mean I don't actually mind it tactically because konak is you know his return Isn't the strong part of his game so it really pressurizes that sometimes it can help when you're you're strugg with your serve you know just have that momentum into the court but I do think it's born out of a bit of fatigue here at this stage when it's a pass he's coming in again there maybe just unsure konakis was he s voling wasn't he just seemed to to sort of pull up and take his eye off the return and again 14 15 but he gets to two set points I think he's now realized tactically it's a good play yeah serving into that back and coming forward [Applause] 14 30 well he nearly taking that one on the chest [Applause] that's a nice way to come through the second set for stepan C pass one [Music] oh I don't know about you Colin Fleming but I have absolutely no idea what to expect in this third set no I mean obviously the momentum is withth C the pass having won the second and I'm I'm intrigued to to see if he continues with the Sur volley tactic that he used uh almost exclusively at the end of the second I think it'll probably be a case of more of the same little bit Scrappy some big powerful tennis at times good energy good intensity there from C [Applause] pass I definitely think that the physical side of the game is going to be a factor here sit the pass still looks pretty tired to me the mental side for sure you know where his confidences belief levels cut a long story short yeah I'm with you no idea where it's going 1 15 oh four [Applause] T5 oh that's a lovely strike that's it his best back hand the one down the line [Applause] B oh [Applause] there 14 left for for [Applause] T15 game good serving from Step has just his sixth Ace in this match half the number that cocken akas has hit but levels up this third set yeah it just looks to have sort of stabilized obviously getting level in the score line set a piece just it definitely helps you feel a lot better about things two our 17 on a pretty warm day these two have been battling and uh well nothing between them set all one all only long way to go still almost got to sort of Steal yourself prepare yourself for the battle that lies ahead that's one way to stay cool goodness yeah even see surely you get warmer yeah love 15 that's already been a little bit of an upset I guess you could call it an upset in this kind of section of the draw this morning with Felix o Al aim losing out to y menik certainly an upset in terms of world ranking anyway Al has se the 19 seed here this year bit of a hammering as well two four and two oh yeah arguably opens up this section of the draw doesn't it o the 19th seed terms of the seeding sits to pass or seem more forecast to me in round three oh set the point up perfectly kakis and then know what happen with that final forand drive volley I have to say yob menik you it's a a very clean win over Orel a seiman he's got the potential to to put a run together here yeah she's been struggling in recent weeks didn't win too many matches in the leadup to the US Open on the North American hard courts didn't get out of qualifying in either Montreal or ciny certainly at the start of the Year won a lot of matches on the hard 153 taking his time here kak is trying to work his way out of a sticky position 1 [Applause] so quick to dance around the the middle ball there 304 [Applause] first chance of this third set comes the way as sit to pass [Music] oh that's a PR forance under big pressure there to save the break [Applause] point he's absolutely crushed this C pass moving deep in the court wanted to make sure he made the return that's EAS to say he should have stepped in but you're not really expecting your opponent to come up with that [Applause] [Music] one that's dropped in not for the first time today I just don't understand what he's doing you know what let's say that ball had gone out it was only going to be by millimeters you you got to sort of react he's he could have taken it out of the [Applause] air it's a brilliant return [Applause] he changed it up there moved in chipped the return did get into the point we'd love to have that forehand back got the potential this game to be a real pivotal one kak is struggling again behind that first serve percentage five of 14 made in this third set so [Applause] far advantage [Applause] it's hard to Sila call that return I mean move deep in the court to to buy time and they just got it all wrong one of the reasons I think he struggled at the US Open over the years it just finds it very tough on return it's a massive ten kakis another just keep an eye on that 15 oh there tar oh 4 L oh game service games like that have been few and far between today two GES third stress [Applause] free interesting to watch the serve here of anakis just having just had that uh the the physio out see whether that affects him at all you can stay connected to the US Open on Facebook X Instagram Tik Tok YouTube and WhatsApp you can join the conversation with us using # usopen oh 15 l [Applause] pretty long service game durations for both players on average now considering we both got big serves been hard work at times obviously is uh draining physically and mentally as well that's a Brant return of be clocking can look at theine electronic line calling it's uh Plum on from sit pass [Applause] [Music] [Applause] K just be so frustrated to miss that forand c he pass he got in the rally trying to do too much with it just going to go straight up the middle of the court but just releases the pressure on kokinakis [Music] game Co so kakis answerers 6 passes pretty routine service game with one of his one inside his 33 UNF STS in fact both players are exactly the same in terms of winners to unforced eras of course a lot more winners for konakis off off the serf 12 Aces to since he passes six be too happy how he's stting the slams this year Cy pass he made the fourth round of the Australian Open lost to Taylor Fritz there May the quarters Rolland garos losing to alarz and then an early second round exit at Wimbledon to to a ruari unfortunately has had to pull out of the US Open has the fin with illness I believe it was so we hope uh Amil is okay quarterfinal run at the Olympic Games in Paris as well for C pass ended at the hands of the eventual Gold Medal winner Novak jovic he won his first match last night out on ash beating R Alba in straight sets one of the benefits of been in that night session not having to play in hot conditions like this didn't do that a few times today at 40 love down just swinging from the hip on return who was your pick for the US Open this year I'm not sure I've asked you have I put me on the spot I think I might be going alarz you know yeah game third slam of the year three game for third on the win streak after uh winning in Roland gas and indeed at Wimbledon jovic obviously showed in the Olympic final what he's capable of it just you know being over best of five uh changes things I'm sure many people will be picking him for his 25th uh Grand Slam title his career 100 title overall CER obviously has had a lot going on I mean he capable he's brilliant hardcore player of course he is but lot going on in recent times off the court yeah it's going to be interesting to see how he does at the US Open this year with everything that is happening just not sure where meev is he's in action later today but lost his first round match in uh Montreal and Cincinnati very unusual for one of the best hardcore players in recent times Carlos Al will kick things off on the uh the night session on Arthur rash 15 here on day two at the US Open he's going up against lee2 the Australian qualifier three all love 15 here maybe just uh a hint of an opening for sitp pass 59 take a seat man please with the blue visor thank you well there's a honey juice how to do it what else maybe a lobster rule going that way didn't it going big with both orders yeah I've not had one of those yet this year normally might go to 15 just gave kakis a moment to maybe steady himself find a good first serve have been very good today Cy pass such an intelligent L as well he knew that coakers will be moving diagonally forward there so actually wrong footed him with that crosscourt LOB kind of spent the second half of that second set Stephan oitti pass coming forward to the net so often servant volleying all the time and then in this set he's come forward three times yes oh my goodness what a point he's found there 134 you know quality of ball striking just suddenly off the charts right from the return here comes a significant moment in this match third break point in this set a great serve 120 out wide into that weaker cityy pass backand oh and done H Kaki oh well he's doing a good job under pressure in this set is tenasi kenis that's now three break point chances that have come and gone for stepan pass one [Applause] so more disappointment in the last game for Stephan oitti pass unable to convert on that one break point that he had a look at fairness to in kochak is did find a very good serve to fend It Off 15 l oh there l 4 L [Music] just overcooked the forehand there D just get a sense at this stage that if the momentum is with anyone it slightly with sit a pass he's he was knocking on the door of the break in the previous game it's looking a little more assured I wouldn't go as far as to say he's in control of things but maybe just slightly on top at this stage I think the Miss for the double fault there just show you that they still not yeah you know the consistency that you'd expect from him throwing in the serve volley again there on the the second serve four doubles [Applause] each his mom still in his coaching box there oh he's found another one with that backand up the line three or four absolute stunners we've seen today that's the unpredictability of this match you just when I was saying 40 love it felt like since the pass was getting to grip of things you know Miss forand a dou fault and a a stunner from coak and the 11 seed needs to be careful oh she remarkable Los couple from Stephano C pass and now one from tenti konakis and unbelievably he now has a break point despite cityy pass leading by 40 love in the game yeah winning four points in a row on return out of nowhere and if he can make it five here what a moment this would be for the Aussie [Applause] oh thr in the Ser volley behind the second serve cockin AIS breaks from 40 love down and will now serve for a two sets to one lead out here on grand stand leads five games to three that's unbelievable the Miss forehand at 40 love the double F at 4015 credit to konakis from there but I mean he served volley there since pass he didn't look ready for the volley it was just he was hoping to win that point rather than sort of confident plan going to get we've not seen him serve volley once this whole set and then all of a sudden it's kind of two out of nowhere it's kind of desperate measur isn't it that's what I mean by hoping to win the point just sort of I'll go in and hopefully things will work out for me just didn't look ready for the volley what a chance this is now for tenasi kakas oh lock team [Music] sirens in the background sit a pass who's in trouble on grand stand that's big time exactly the sort of point he wants to be playing getting the four in control very loose with the racket on his forehand he's never been a problem generating racket head speed and Pace on the ball there seats available behind the player please thank you that is so good pass came into the forehand and well this is what he's capable of there's that rack Ahad speed again whipping the ball Cross Court seven forand winner in this set 12 in total 14 15 13 B only is first in this third set but it brings him two set points thank you oh wow what a way to come through this third set tenasi kakis incredible couple of games [Music] 15 L St [Applause] oh four left oh yeah is another laser but this one off the forehand oh it's best of the match I think gee it's a rocket down the line here from konakis have some of that game c pass so Ace number nine c pass through the opening game of the one semi-final that came in Los Cabos fourth round of the Australian Open quarterfinals in Acapulco last 16 of Indian Wales and then lost his first match in Miami to Dennis shapovalov 15 looks like he's kind of revitalized though there sit he pass just saw him kind of almost skipping over to the other side of the Court there just maybe trying to show kakis that he's still a ball of energy not going anywhere [Applause] interested to see from sit pass if he tries anything different in this set you know you refer to Adam the number of net approaches and the Ser volleys towards the end of the second the set that he won and and that just dried up again in set three for it's a good play if he wants to conserve energy but also tactically you know coming forward to the konaki backand and and asking him to hit good returns hit passing shots game c NE that was some pleas one game all fourth set four first serves made two Aces take a shout there from his team almost a reminder to change rackets with the new balls but deciding he didn't want to I don't speak Greek but I know what Reta means I was just about to say I was very impressed with your translation there nothing wrong with that braacket nope on that forand yeah there's mom underneath the big hat Julia it's an award family situation isn't it you know let's not ignore the elephant in the room that he's chosen not to have father apos Los as his coach and that seems to mean that his brother Petros mom Yul are in the player box here but apostos isn't sure be watching somewhere just a difficult situation and um cuz he kind of referenced that it had been bothering him for the last few years Cy pass he said the last few years have been really tough but it has to wear in your mind right because sure it mean a lot to any player to have the parents watch their matches yeah you know and and hopefully there's a situation maybe where if apostos isn't the coach he can still come and watch his match well I thought that was the plan wasn't it I thought he said that that his dad would still be traveling and watching his matches but yeah I don't know if he's here in New York with him or not AO again but he he gave konakis a running forehand pass and that's a dangerous thing to do he just able to like I say generate so much rack ahead speed look at the whip run the ball there he's almost hooked that down the line so big early moments for sitti pass [Music] here there he comes forward again behind that second serve Cy pass it's almost just when he's kind of under a bit of pressure and tight moments in a service game he just decides to serve volley behind first and second serve we've seen it for the last couple of hours not often kind of Starting Games serve voling tend to come at about 30 all let's laboring to the line here for this second attempt at the second serve game 65 so Cy pass holds pass stays ahead [Applause] [Music] 15 left started this fourth set with a five out of five first serves six out of six both players are below 50% in fact that first serve takes gakis to exactly 50% 57 out of 15 for the match and uh well there's sitzu pass at 48% you know that's that's tiring in itself you know you're hitting a lot of serves lot of second serves you you we saw the average game durations on serve you know it's so nice if you if you can serve well just skip through your service games you know it helps in terms of just feeling like your side of the scoreboards always moving but also just you're not having to invest too much physical and mental energy in holding I think the fact that neither players serve particularly well today has made more of a battle as well sharp return there from sit pass fourth T5 I first time we've seen a bit of a m hit from Stephanos pass off both Wings get some more treatment at the change of ends [Applause] so two games all in this four set stanos 6y passes just had the trainer out straight after that last game immediately called for the trainer and it was kind of the rib area that was just being treated to didn't have a full medical timeout but I think that the general consensus was that the physio would be back at the next change of ends well three hours 16 minutes on the match clock on a hot day it's been a a roller coaster of a match sit pass looked like he was getting to grips the third set had great points at three all was then 40 love up on his own serve at 34 before losing Five Points in a row to be broken and in the blink of an eye lost the third set and yeah just not sure where he is physically here he's not quite look right right the whole match almost has he sits he pass third C 15 yeah I I agree with that but certainly in terms of any injury you know if you've got a rib or an abdominal injury usually this sort of Paces down on the serve and you're not really extending that hasn't been the case no hasn't served well below 50% for serve percentage but he's been hitting at full power that's for sure see they 127 mil per hour first Ser but shaky looking second and the match could be on the line right here [Music] over pressing on the forehand that's the risk when you're struggling a little don't want to play a Long Point for too much too soon so first break point for either player in this fourth set just made sure he got the first serve in there the off Pacer to the back hand and it it forc well certainly got the eror [Applause] Advantage T pass game holds for St saves the break point it's going to be just interesting to see whether the physio comes back out here [Applause] L 15 oh oh noar that is his fifth double thought of the match and now he's in big trouble here kakis yeah two slack points sometimes when you see your opponent having the trainer on and looking a little like they're struggling you know your mind can just wonder to the outcome thinking I've got him here or it's going to be my date need to knuckle down right here konakis he did just that good for a serve 153 love to know Lon H's thoughts on this match you know I know has been a proper roller coaster ride H was someone that played played the man played the opponent as much as anyone and and you know did it well he always aware of how the other player was was feeling on the court sense his moment to to get him as he would put it you know yeah that opportunity is in front of ganakas here you know hold serve and chance to get sit a pass another one of those back hand slices that just floats didn't really do anything with it just allows konakis to attack this is not where sitz a pass wants to be chasing balls deep in the court [Applause] oh second double of the game yes [Applause] [Applause] it's a massive moment in this fourth set right now for tenase konakis advantage kakit it's a 400 you'd expect it's pass to [Applause] make game Cy oh comes true the easiest service game by any stretch for tenasi konak is couple of double fults thrown in there as well but on we go three games [Applause] all right here I think I just heard H shout out it's exactly what I referred to you know he would be all over this game yeah everything he touched would go in the court no chance he be missing in the rally and that's the reason he s passes on the edge here he could miss anything that was a nothing return in the middle of the Court he's just mtim beforehand continues to have that sort of overheated fatigued look up [Applause] home what a opportunity this is for tenasi konakis to get what would be just his second main draw Win of his career here at the US Open so good in defense from kakis Love 1 brilliant it really was he's in a tough spot there and he just knife that slic down the line SAS was not expecting that well we just saw kakis hold from love 30 oh that is just a remarkable second and konakis has gone full double teot there he can't believe that he's caught the outside edge of the line what about that in a way you could be encouraged though if your opponent's going for a serve like that it's risky this just confirms that you've got them on the edge see what he produces with this second serve that's a bad [Applause] Miss let heav oh that's an extraordinary Bu from Stephan oy pass yeah moment of Brilliance this was a pretty good defensive slice and from below the height of the net he's just carved that one away just cuts the racket inside the ball to get it fading off the court that was superb even had a bit of energy to celebrate gum love 30 followed by step pass holding from love 30 Ramona Brilliance with that volley he stays ahead to lead 4-3 there on the forand remember in that the third set it was sitp pass who had some chances at three all and then ended up being broken at 34 that's a great [Applause] point he's firing and and confident his forand really is it's a world class shot it's real weapon got to use it as much as possible kakas it's just got him in the positive in terms of the winners to unforce deral 44 winners to his 43 errors hears and sees everything doesn't he that's going on around him kinak is not for the first time today has just had to stop just before he was about to serve there just distracted again third C1 15 [Applause] so surpris there since he pass one of his first back hands that he had there was a midcourt ball just expecting to hit through that backand instead he's just kind of sliced one back straight down the middle of the Court just allowed kakis to get immediately back to neutral there it's just a a representation of how he's feeling you know low on confidence coming into this match and that has continued throughout [Music] game K four games all four set [Applause] [Applause] a lovely s from 60 pass really nice that one enely sure whether he needed to play that final volley might have just been drifting wide from kokinakis but took no chances we've seen both players just slightly misjudge things today light for 30 [Applause] yeah it's an excellent angle he's found with that forehand Cy pass good game so [Applause] far oh 4 some real intent on the forehand in this game from sit a [Applause] pass long as he can keep holding serve keep his nose in front it doesn't take much for him to just Nick this set game 50 pass yeah that is a very positive service hold four for sets kak now kak is serving to stay in this fourth set or are we heading the distance so serving to stay in set number four here Tennesse konakis good game that sitti pass has just played one of the best service games in a little while terms of just positivity way that he was hitting the ball he made it well right decision to let it bounce went with the slice uh overhead to keep control and that maybe just saved him in the end very close to missing 12 out of 12 First Serve points one in this set for konakis oh he'd love to keep the first serves coming that's big couldn't quite find the depth with that return Cy pass landed middle of the Court konakis dealt with it 17th forand winner for the Aussie today [Applause] thir it's still a question mark whether konakis can you know see this one out it would be a big win for him be as bigest win in fact by ranking in a grand slam he's two and N against top 20 players in the slams be gbus 2015 Australian Open when the Lan was ranked 13 and 17th rank see wiing this year 145 [Applause] it's pass playing here ranked 11th in the world which uh it's a sign of his relative struggles as a player that was number three in the world previously my goodness pass hit a 4 you can look at the court but just got it all wrong five against all fourth F yeah not sure he can be blaming the court for that [Applause] one well Mom doing her best to try and spur Stephanos on here [Applause] [Music] 15 where did that come from well it would have been a winning shot had he made it he's cut it too [Applause] fine third one of his biggest of the match 128 fastest so far 131 milph oh big dou we've seen a few of them haven't we again just completely fell off the serve to the left off balance [Applause] sure M's going to have any nails left by the end of this one oh had gambled the complete wrong way there was expecting him to go up the te great return another L on the serve mind you nervy Ser just uh looked afraid to miss it put it right in the middle of the B 80 M hour fanak is pounced is this his moment the man from Adelaide this could be the match right here out his breaks at a perfect time deep into this four set and in a couple of moments it will be the L serving for a place in round two in all honesty it was not a great game from stepanos 6 pass that's an understatement Miss drop shot double fall weak second serve and then flying long big reaction from konakis who almost sort of caught himself tried to C himself down you know and the job's not done yet yeah you see players get a little carried away you can see him here just really trying to steady himself and focus on the task at hand which is just a solid serice game should serve this up from what we've seen over nearly what four hours on court you'd be a little surprised if cois just stepped up to the line and serenely served this [Music] out much is left in the C pass tank [Music] W on to call four hours ago tenasi kakis and Stephan oitti passed and it's over to you can the oi serve this one out at 65 [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] no is not taking too kindly to Stephan oit has his time in which he's taking to change rackets just insinuating the bit of gamesmanship here maybe he just genuinely forgot to change rackets cly making konakis wait before he tries to serve up this match screaming out that midp point ladies and Gentlemen please T's going to have a bit of a job in her hands here please do not make noise during play thank you I think there's a few six pass Greek fans inside grandstand are going to do all they can to try and rescue their man backs to try and keep his cool broken in the first set remember when he he was distracted by some going on in the crowd [Applause] a good break from cus positive [Applause] [Applause] again now like the game he's played here canus he's 14 he's playing to win going after it two match points [Applause] Co gets just his second US Open main draw win his first since 2019 and goodness this me did he have to battle for it nearly 4 hours out there but he gets the better on the number 11 seed Stephan U pass who has another early exit in New York brilliant from the Y and there'll either be Nuno bores or federo Cora up next for him [Applause]
