[Music] welcome to Manhattan Kansas the little apple where they have taken a large bike out of college football the Man For Whom the stadium is named Bill Snider built this program from the losingest in the history of college football to a formidable fo and home of the Kansas State Wildcats there's just something about the night cap after a day of wall toall football it just seems this is when chaos ensues as we'll see a squad from Conference USA the Kenesaw State owls taking on a team who is rested and ready coming off of by the Kansas state wild cats for EA Sports college football I'm Rees Davis David poan Jesse Palmer with me guys it's time to get it going the ball squirts through the end zone that'll be a Touchback they'll bring it out to the 25 the offense lining up for a first down play [Applause] leaves it with the back not much doing there he get six a gain of one and those physical runs take a toll it might not be a big game now but down the road third fourth quarter late in the ball games they tend to turn into bigger [Applause] runs they'll run it out of the shotgun and he's got enough for the first down it'll be at the 35 and I don't care if I get it by two by 20 by 30 by 40 I just I just want to get the first down understanding the situation understanding where the sticks are doesn't have to be sexy but I got to make sure I get to that stick get to the first down Mark you want to make sure to maximize those types of runs and he gets it out to the 41 really nice first down run and you're seeing why this running back is an every down type back he can run between the tackles he can run outside he can catch the football he can block this guy can do it all going to run it it's giddens nowhere to run on that one when he loses four on the carrry and there was no space nowhere to go that play went absolutely nowhere sometimes you just need a dude to show up and make a play and he did sometimes you just need to block that dude and they didn't dropping back it's Barnett throws for the tight end got his man downfield that'll be enough for the first down as they stop him at the 43 yd line how nice is it for the quarterback knowing he's got a tight end that can get down the field vertically on the corner route you know if you just put it anywhere near this guy with his long arms he's going to pluck the football he did it right there2 coming out on first down with the play fake using the quick game and he'll run across the sidelines after the good gain there's not a lot more beautiful in football than the playaction and the open tight end yeah because it freezes those linebackers it freezes those safeties cuz they have to come up for a second and play The Run and then the big tight ends big Targets on the back end can catch the football and make big plays and chunk plays are the name of the game and they get one here before the defense finally makes the stop I think it's really important for this offense they get this guy going early in the game and they're doing a nice job of that right now remember he's the kind of running back who gets better as the game goes goes on that's a really good omen for this offense considering his success now early they run the reverse that play just never had a chance they knock him down for a loss of five what a great job by the backside of the defense staying home a lot of time the Run looks like it's going the other direction what happens you start to chase nope these guys stayed home and played their assignment and that's why they had success on second down wants to throw can't make the grab as he was going for six right there and just got enough of the football there by the defender breaking on the football getting his hand on he couldn't bat it down but he got a fingertip on it tipped that thing away from the receiver made the big play saving the touchdown on Third and long hoping to throw beyond the sticks oh they really could have used that catch their physical pass defense it brings up a down and they'll have to settle for a field goal try thought he had it and couldn't get it through the upright he missed it after the Miss no change in the score quarterback and running back set up in the [Applause] pistol the give to the tail back nice move to keep moving and knock him down after a gain of three to the [Music] 23 after the three- yd pickup they come to the line Second and [Applause] seven looking to throw it's Pope he's got his man moves up to the 34 yd line give him a 10yd pickup these guys are called matchup guys they're not the biggest guys on the field but they're going to win short and they're going to catch the ball and they're going to make yards after the catch you can tell those are the type of guys in college football that are starting to get maximized and used a lot more than they were in the past really nice stop there from this senior leader at the 37 yd line brings up second down will start the quarter offense about to snap it on second [Applause] down quarterback wants to throw on second down they've got the screen set up not a whole lot of room there on that screen pass as it just never developed I'll tell you what if you want to be overzealous and you want to be a Blitzer all the time I like running the screen right behind him did a great job throwing the screen almost broke this one for a long game but it just keeps the defense a little bit more honest if you want to start bringing a lot of pressure the throw to the outside is complete good job running that route to get past the sticks because he got nothing after the catch everybody on the same page there on Blitz pickup right offensive line everybody communicating understanding where they have to work to give their QB time time to make an accurate throw and pick up the first this kenesa state offense is on the Move now on the option and now on the pitch the balls loose the D Scoops it up and everybody reverses field it's great to have a running thread at quarterback but he's got to take care of the ball once he gets into traffic and he didn't there he does reys and he's a guy that is going to get a lot of opportunities to carry the football in this game because of the speed because of his open field running ability but you're right you got to be better with your ball security this defense when they see the quarterback running they start getting excited that's a guy they feel they could rip the ball away from they did right there they got nothing on the last play it's second and 10 [Applause] 25 trying to turn the corner on the right knocked down after a three yd gain to the 25 I like feting my guy I like getting my running back touches feeding the ball so he can break some of those big runs but I'm also okay with these little ones set the tone stay balanced you know they'd love to convert this third down after missing a field goal on the last drive to the air it's marnett throws toward the end zone and he's got it touched out wild cats I don't know what play they called but I would call it again cuz the defense had no idea what was going on receiver comes wide open catches the football and gets the easy touchdown they'll try to attack one more on their score and the extra point is good and it's seven nothing quick strike offense on that three playay scoring drive and they close that drive going to the air for the final inches and the score no shot to return that one as he boomed it out of the back of the end zone guys we'll get another look at this Kennesaw State offense that last fumble proved to be costly as they cashed it in for a touchdown yeah and so this defense now is Juiced they're excited and ready to go so this offense David they've got to get something going yeah those turnovers can be T and that pass is intercepted he was looking for that big return to go with the pick but he'll set him up in business set for 36 QB's got to pick and choose those spots when they want to be really aggressive and try to fit balls and Tight Windows great job by the DB making a big play getting the ball back to its offense used the play fake now to throw looking to the big tight end got him downfield and he was BR and in the open field and on his way a tremendous pick up on that one and the wild cats will try to put one on the board on first and goal Phil 29 [Applause] Philly they'll try to get it in with the run and he fights his way forward gets away from one but not much doing on that one stopping the run is very high on every defensive coordinator list making the team onedimensional nice job stuffing the run on that play right there he's got and he was dying to push his way in there but he's knocked down at the three well when you're running the drag route against man coverage like that as a quarterback you got to put the ball out in front of your Target and when you do that you give the guy a chance to then Advance the football up the field pick up a first down like they did right there okay ready they'd love to make this short field payoff with a touch down instead of settling for three but it is third and goal go straight ahead and he takes it in for the score touchdown Kansas State I can hear the defensive coordinator in the next Bove yelling wrap up you have to wrap up bring your feet for points of contact you hear all those stuff from your defensive coaches but you know what sometimes the guy is just better than you he makes a play and Gets In The End Zone quick work on that scoring drive just four plays and Clos the deal with a three- yd touchdown [Applause] run not going to give him a chance to make a play as they boot that thing through the endzone [Music] guys we're about to see this Kennesaw State offense go back to work running out of time here in the first half and they do have a chance to make this a one possession game and so you got to locate your best players and get them the football on this dri you're down in the game there's obviously a lot of football left David but on this drive in this two-minute situation best players got to touch the ball and this could get into pressing mode right like you go into the half down a couple of scores it starts to the pressure really really mounts good opportunity to take some of that pressure off get some momentum energize this squad going into [Applause] halftime dropping back it's pop throws to the tight end oh what a spectacular layout in catch man I I love those guys that are willing to put their body on the line and he does it right here man just lays out that Ball's coming in you can see it from several yards out making that play laying out keeping the football from touching the turf great concentration great effort by the receiver fires into traffic it's picked off looking for more room the tag and he has taken it all the way back touchdown wild cats they are seizing control and taking away hope as they push out the lead in this week eight Showdown look a lot of time left there's a little bit of distance right now being put on the scoreboard there is but it's so awesome when you're a defense and you study all week about what's coming and what routes to be ready for and then you jump the route and you make the plays and you just go get in that End Zone it is so [Applause] beautiful guys we'll get another look at this Kennesaw State offense they find themselves in a pretty deep hole here but maybe a chance to grab a little momentum and regroup at halftime yeah a big chance like this is this is an opportunity this is the biggest opportunity in front of them in the game right now you got to get some points on the board you got to create something positive Jesse there hasn't been a whole lot to be positive about in the first half if I'm playing quarterback I'm locating my go-to guy receiver who can I count on one-on-one to go and make me a play maybe even one on two who can go up catch the ball get get us some yards and get us some points Kena state right back to [Applause] work enough for looking downfield it's p zings it complete to the right a timeout is called as this offense tries to find way to get more points on the board before the half after the first down completion it's second and [Applause] short squirl squirl he's looking to throw he's right on Target and with that the Chain Gang will get busy first down Kennesaw State for the offense maybe some confusion on the snap count it's going to be a false start the officials offer the deal and the coach accepts it they will take the penalty here comes the offense on first down Gin Gin wants to go up top find just tight end they'll finally drag him down but not before he gets it to the 40 and it's a first down here's a Timeout on the field tight game here late in the first [Applause] half trying to find his man on first down and he's picked off again his night vision hasn't been up to speed his third interception after making the interception he sets up his offense by running it back to the 39 and I tell you what when defenses Play Zone all eyes are on the quarterback you have a Zone to drop to but you're setting on the quarterback reading his eyes great job by the defense understanding the ball was coming out breaks on the football goes and makes the eye a te T Ste has the ball back and the power cat offense returns to the field he'll start this drive five firing trying to get behind the defense oh and it's a pick he threw it right into the double coverage he goes out of bounds but he creates the turnover and a great opportunity for his offense well how about that I mean they knew this defense was good defending the pass but that had more to do with who's in the secondary not necessarily who's up front David his best pollin personation picking that one he hurls one deep down the left side and this is dropped incomplete pass he had a huge gain in his fingers and he couldn't hold on time dwindling away as they try to put points on the board right before the [Applause] half back to pass it's pop he'll take another shot here for the fourth time tonight it's an interception and they make the play to stop the scoring opportunity just before the end of the half and another mistake from this quarterback that's backto back drives now that have resulted in interceptions he's got to find a way to find something different get in a better Rhythm start seeing the field better Palmer cuz he's not in a flow right now no David it looks like he's forcing the football a little bit maybe trying to make up for that interception he threw on the last drive but that last play there was no way that football should have gone there he could have gotten off of that and checked it down or thrown it away this quarterback he needs a breather right now he's got to collect himself and in the closing moments of the first half they'll try to put a three spot on the board and he missed it no good really had a chance to stretch it out there but I think he'll live with a 20po lead that's the end of the second quarter that means it's time to join Kevin in our halftime update [Applause] Kansas state will kick off as we get things started here in the third [Applause] quarter that ball skips through the end zone it's a Touchback and they'll take over at the 25 yd [Music] line guys we're about to see this Kennesaw State offense go back to work they come into this third quarter with a lot of work they need to get done yeah and it starts with this possession and and I'm I'm going piece by piece I know this is coach speak and very simple I score I get a stop I score I can get back in this game but it's got to be one drive at a time it it's going to have to be but I think the mindset offensively is we're probably going to have to score every time we get it because our defense has been struggling they have not been getting a lot of stops so this is a critical drive here for this offense small gain I know but again the defense knows he's going to run the football he's willing to run the football not just drop back and pass make him on to the Run game you got to do a lot of this the back goes in motion dropping back it's pop quick strike complete they make the stop not a whole lot of ground picked up there and they'll have work to do to get the first down listen running backs are not just running backs anymore you're going to be a wide receiver in today's football and a great job sneaking out of the back field getting the football letting them get some positive yards if every Journey begins with a step this offense needs to step into a third down conversion and then try to turn it into some scores and fast how about the defender being a heat seeking missile he was on radar lock he found the football and flew down with some bad intentions [Applause] trailing by multiple possessions in the third and desperately needing a score they'll go for it on fourth down he'll try to throw and pick up the first down fires to the wide out and the incomplete pass they roll the dice snake eyes and I get it at this point in the second half we we got to make something happen we we haven't been good enough we got to score a lot of points and quickly you got to be aggressive they tried they failed again um this game is all but over quarterback keeps it got her up for the first down and wants more and it is a chunk play a huge gain on that one before the defense brings it to an end and this defense knew coming into the game with this quarterback's speed David they were going to have to be ready for him to tuck the ball and takeoff running but it doesn't matter you know it but he's so fast he just you don't know about the Angles and you can't tell how fast till you get in the game and he just takes off and and makes big plays with his feet hold down after a pick up of five he'll mark it at the eight listen defense is about energy it's about passion it's about physicality they need a little bit more of that get the guy in the ground you can't let guys break tackles what could have been set up in a long yard situation now it becomes an easier situation because you couldn't get him on the ground quarterback reacting to what the D is showing to the air it's [Applause] Barnett trying to get to it and that one is picked off in the end zone they get him on the ground after the turnover but there is a flag on the field and we'll see if that will be a repri for this offense Kansas state has it first and goal 29 fly 29 Philly looking for room it's Edwards He's got it down to the one yd line right on the doorstep of perer BR up second and goal for this offense last flip it flip [Applause] it a strong tackle and wrap up from the junior well you obviously want to get your receivers the football down here in the Red Zone but it's tough to throw it to him because the windows are so small so I like the idea handing it off to that guy and seeing if he can do something with his speed let's see what the offense dials up on Third and goal slams it ahead they were all over him nowhere to go as that third down play turned into a disaster and how about the response from this defense put in a horrible situation horrible field position Jesse they B their necks three times in a row yeah and it's a sudden change situation and they practice that all week you never know when they're going to come up but you have to have guys on the field playing with a sense of urgency this has been awesome touchdown Kansas State and the the puming has started and it's now the second time this wide receiver has scored another outstanding job with the route great job securing the catch theat unit on the field and with the extra point they push the lead out a little further quick work on that scoring drive just four plays now they'll try to get another possession with an onside kick few anxious moments there but the hands team true to its name as they make the grab and get the ball so the decision has been made and the coach will take the penalty offense set on first down moving the running back trying to get the D to tip it hand not much working there it'll be second and nine Ken stay right back to [Music] [Applause] work he works his way down to the 30 yd line before he stopped a gain of three and a lot of times you want those big plays you want those Splash plays but sometimes you're going to take some losses you're not going to run the football overly well but if you continue to run it you can at least create some balance you at least have the threat he makes a grab and he ran away from the crowd and he'll take it in touchdown ow number ready to try the point [Applause] after splits the upright kick quick strike offense on that three-play scoring drive and they finish it up with the final 30 yards coming courtesy of that touchdown pass they probably need one more score to feel like they're back in this game down by 20 as they're set to kick it away on the run from inside his zone five nice job by the kickoff team everybody stayed in their lanes and they'll stop him at the 16 wow they narrowly avoid disaster there they fumble the kick return and if that goes to the other team all the momentum is no longer with them so a nice job being able to pounce back on that the head coach breathing a huge huge sigh of relief and they'll drag him down that's likely the last play of the third [Applause] quarter that's the end of the third quarter of the score Kanas State 27 we'll get this quarter going with a second down play look looking to throw it's Barnett a little screen to the running back bringing the heat they finally get him stopped but what a good job by that front wall to set up the screen and create some lanes for their running back great job too by the QB there holding the ball as long as possible allowing the pass rush to get up field and at the very last second getting it to his guide so that he can go get the first down fast motion from the offense give to the back they'll wrestleing down just short of the first down I don't even think they're going to bring out the change to measure this one it's a point in the game I think as a coaching staff where you really challenge your offensive line to go win the football game right we've got a lead late we're going to run the football and the defense and everybody in the stadium knows that's what's going to happen can we run the ball down their throats and impose our will that's what this offense right now is trying to do and how much Running Room have they been able to find just all day they are piling up unbelievable rushing stats we on the run it's Edwards and is slipped out defense falls on the ball going to be a turnover as a Defender you dream about those big hits you you work hard on it in practice closing space getting close and just sticking that guy guy and causing the fumble guys we'll get another look at this Kennesaw State offense buys a little time with his feet Fire's on the move he got a hand in there knocks it away incomplete and it's just been that kind of day for this quarterback in this offense guys they have never been able to get into a rhythm throwing the football timing's been off accuracy hasn't been great we've seen some drops just not in sync and that's why they find themselves trailing by a lot right here late in the game they'll give him a couple that leaves him with third and eight they line up and it is a long way to the sticks from here motion from the offense try to get the edge with a quick touch pass and he's still running after the move picks up just a few before he's brought down not really willing to take a risk there on Third and long and he touch passes man they're just the easiest completions ever for quarterbacks Palmer I bet you would have loved being able to just Flip It Forward that counts as to your completion percentage which is good and then it's all run after the catch so pretty easy for a QB you wouldn't have been the only All-American in this booth David if I were allowed to have Push passes when I was playing quarterback I'll tell you that it is so hard to defend it's so hard to seal that edge especially when this guy's Full Speed Ahead coming around the makes a grab enough for the first and they finally make the tackle but this will be a pretty easy conversion for this offense that's a great example of the receiver knowing exactly where the first down marker is he got the depth he needed to get so once he was able to make the catch he already knew he had it now a fresh set of downs going up top on first down throws to the wide out a little too much on that one just out of his reach and that's just the kind of game it's been for this quarterback in this offense you got a great game playing all week long you're watch watching it throughout practice you think you're going to have a chance to light up the scoreboard but they're just not able to hook up you got to give this defense a ton of credit they've done a great job in coverage they've been breaking on passes they've had their number and that's why they're leading by as much as they are it's really nice when you're an offensive coach and you can basically attack the whole field when you got an arm like this and you can just boom put on a line it's really nice to have that they want to just keep throwing it quickly to the tight end and he'll be marked down but he's got enough to move the chains they saw that Blitz coming and the way to get out of it is find the tight end yeah how quick did he see that too sees the blitz understands this is a matchup where I got my big tight end the big fella I trust I'm going to find that matchup get him the football for the first down this Kennesaw State offense is on the Move gorilla gorilla go go to the air on first down shoots it to the left how about that play to get a hand in there and force the incompletion the offense came into this game knowing that for them to win they were going to have to make some big plays throwing the football that just has not been the case here in the fourth quarter they've been held to less than 200 passing yards and that's really the story of the game guys keeps the legs moving and the defense had that one well covered just a short game there you just get the feeling this defense is going to make it hard on them right they've got the lead it's late and they're going to try to tackle everybody in bounds offense is going to have to really work for this and be smart you got to attack the sidelines you got to throw first down you got to keep this thing moving vertically down the field a little less room to work with now as the ball's at the 28 and it's third and long they'll run the option he'll toss it [Applause] he's knocked down in the back field he'll lose a couple yeah this offense man it's been a struggle buck and they just they haven't clicked yet they haven't found what they're really really good at and I'll tell you this it's later it's in the fourth quarter later in the game obviously they need to start airing this thing out we got to get back in this football game cuz I don't know if y'all realize this but we're down by a lot fourth down and 10 and barely a thought of kicking it they'll go for it [Applause] the p and throw off the RPO put it right on him sweet play good pickup and they'll move the chains with the first down sprinting to the line to try to get this one off clock's [Applause] running they've marched to the red Zone and here they go he looks that one in nicely that completion will take it inside the four and the offense is threatening they immediately call timeout trying to preserve every second they can to try to rally here late tenas state has a chance now on first and goal on the option quick toss just steamrolling the defense and not much doing there as that defense runs him out of bounds well this situation on the field this defense has their hands full because this running back just seems to have a nose for the end zone of course he scored his last timeout he's really good down here close to the goal line finding [Applause] creases a [Applause] scanning the field it's pop into the end zone had it in his hands for the score and let it fall to the turf it'll be third down you see an incompletion there I think a big reason why this team is in such a hole right now in the fourth quarter is they have just not been able to find the explosive play throwing the ball and you got to wonder at this point is it too little too late 42 SPID [Applause] into the creative space on Third and short with the wide receiver and he takes it to the house touch down kenesa state what a perfect play call to get the score and you're watching the backside on all your runs making sure that backside they're not cheating not flying to the football the offense saw something caught them in it the defense didn't have an answer the reverse Works to perfection [Applause] he wants to throw it might be looking to run into the end zone for the two and now it's a 12-point game they held the ball for 15 plays on that touchdown drive time is against them still down by two scores but they'll line up for the onside kick Ro is at the hand hands team will be able to recover the ball yeah and this is why you put your hands team on the field most of the time when you know it's coming and you put those guys that are great catchers of the football the first guys what do they do they go block they go blow somebody up the next guys catch the football secure get your butt on the ground and most of the time when you do this the ball game is over off the play fake on first down lets it Fly and it's picked off right at the goal line going the other way and he's and the ball squirted out he's at the 10 and he takes it in on the final play of the game you play through the echo of the whistle and they did that the ceiling touchdown number one and some people might say they should have taken a knee run the clock out this offense believes I'm going to run the football it's your job to stop it and they add a rushing touchdown and another six to the scoreboard a strong method iCal workmanlike effort from this team No Frills just get the job done and get the win I love when you describe my teams like that just consistent you know methodical strong I don't have to do things special every single week all I'm supposed to do is get the W and that's what they did and this is why practice is so important guys you can tell that this team was locked in way back earlier in the week they watched the film they got good looks in practice they knew what to anticipate they knew what looks they were going to see and when those looks presented themselves boy oh boy do they ever take advantage that's going to do it for us from here for Jesse Palmer David Pollock I'm Rees David
