Minnesota Vikings Unofficial Depth Chart: Dallas Turner Not Starting?

the Minnesota Vikings along with basically all other NFL teams have released their unofficial depth chart of the Season which you hear that first word unofficial which means things could be changing okay you have no idea what's going to happen between now and game day which we play at noon on Sunday against the New York Giants so things could change there's only one little thing that makes me go that's interesting so we'll talk about that that's on the defensive side of the ball otherwise all positions are basically uh what we thought would be you know the depth chart right the starters the backups and yada y so let's get right into it the offense and then we'll move to defense then special team so what is the offense looking like this season well we're starting with Sam darn we knew this was the case right signning that one-year deal even if JJ McCarthy had an outstanding preseason it ended short because of the knee surgery or the season ending knee surgery uh we already knew Sam darn was going to be the starter unless you were other people uh that thought otherwise um but backups Nick Mullen uh Nick Mullins and Brett ripen which still very confused about that decision played on the Bears uh uh or for the Bears this preseason didn't see much time over there I thought it'd be smarter to keep jiren Hall he's been in the system for a couple years now uh made no sense but that is the starters and backups for quarterbacks running backs we have Aaron Jones uh senior because he does have a kid who's also named Aaron Jones as well uh but he's our starting running back that was going to be the case all along okay there's a reason we uh you know signed him this offseason his backup will be Tai Chandler who's had a phenomenal couple Seasons here in Minnesota I've really likeed what I've seen out of him so I'm glad that he made uh the roster and uh he's our backup so starting fullback is CJ ham not much to be said there uh wide receivers again not much to be said here as well Justin Jefferson obviously the number one receiver in my opinion in the National Football League you could put Devonte Adams up there with the route running and stuff um but yeah Justin Jefferson's there Jordan Addison will be the number two uh but he's also listed as a starter and the backups will be uh will be Jaylen Naylor Brandon Powell and Then followed up by Tristan Jackson and Trent sherfield uh Jr Jaylen Naylor will most likely be wide receiver three most of the season but I think he'll split some reps with Brandon Powell in that slot position uh from time to time uh whenever they need breathers or whoever is having a better day basically or you know pending healthwise or injuries and stuff like that but those are the backups for the receivers uh for the tight ends starter being that TJ hackinson is on the pup list the physically unable to perform list uh he will miss the first four weeks so Josh will get the nod mainly known for his blocking in the Run game and the passing game uh not much of a receiver uh so it makes sense that he's the starter out there just to help our Run game out a little bit more than it was uh last year our backups who will take most of the uh receiving parts of the offense if you will will be Johnny Mt and Nick Muse uh tackles for left tackle we have Christen derasa and right tackle Brian O'Neal right Brian O'Neal has been the or is the longest 10year player on the offensive line it's glad or I'm glad to see him uh still continue to play at a high level and uh stay healthy the only time he wasn't healthy was a couple seasons ago uh where he missed a handful of games but we have them back in the lineup so that is great the backups will be Walter Rouse and David quesenberry uh Walter Rouse had a pretty solid preseason uh which ended up resulting in making the 53 man roster I do believe he was an undrafted free agent so that's always nice to see uh interior offensive lineman this was one position group where I was wondering or very curious uh as to who was going to start the left guard uh position that's Blake brandle that is probably going to change at some point I don't really see him as a top tier offensive lineman I see him as more of a backup uh you know a depth piece if you will uh so I could see that position changing especially when Dalton Ryner comes back from his injury uh he's been dealing with that back injury for quite some time now basically the entire off season uh the you know the training camp portion and all that stuff so Blake Brand's left are starting left guard uh at Right Guard we have Ed Ingram has some struggles hopefully he can show more consistency this season less penalties and then Center Garrett Bradbery our backups are Michael Jurgens and Dan feny now Jurgens could take over that left guard position if Blake brandle doesn't perform how we think or how we hope he's going to perform the first four weeks uh but until then it's going to be Blake Brand's job moving over to the defense all right this is where things get a little interesting we'll start with the outside linebackers okay the starters Jonathan grenard and Andrew van G inle our backups well Patrick Jones thei I already kind of knew that was going to be the case uh and Dallas Turner and Jihad Ward so the name right there that makes this uh that popped out to me I was like wow he's he's not starting is Dallas Turner right uh I think he is a Defensive Rookie of the Year candidate he showed out in preseason granted yeah it is preseason so you can't Overlook that um but you know you drafted him 17th overall in the first round for a reason you get rid of denil Hunter you add Jonathan grard so Jonathan grard automatically gets his starting position he's a stud but Dallas Turner is also a stud I think he probably gives us a little bit more of a spark than Andrew van gingle even though van gingle has shown that he can be a not a high caliber but a a pretty solid outside linebacker pass rusher if you will but I if it were me man you want the fan base to get going I know you want to win ball games and stuff but I think Dallas Turner is a game changer I think he helps you win ball games just like van GLE so he's not starting right now but that could change come Sunday if the coaching staff sees otherwise but still quite shocking uh because Van van GLE to me is more of a you know a come in if somebody needs a break or maybe just give us a spark here and there but Dallas Turner is going to be a backup defensive line starters Jerry Tillery Harrison Phillips and Jonathan Bullard not looking great uh there uh in my opinion that was one position group that I knew was going to be the worst uh other than Corner okay the defensive back room it just doesn't look good Harrison Phillips is by far uh like way better than Jerry Tillery and Jonathan Bullard the backups will be Levi Drake Rodriguez who has had a phenomenal uh preseason drafted seventh round uh lot of upside the coaching staff loves him uh and he was just flying around making plays so we might see some Levi Drake Rodriguez at some point this season who knows it'll be week one week two you know whenever it is he's going to see the field then Taki taiani and Jaylen Redmond are also the backups the inside linebackers starters Blake Cashman and Ivan Pace Jr Blake Cashman a Minnesota native I believe out of Eden Prairie played for the golfers ends up going to play for the Jets to start his career finds his way finally over to the Minnesota Vikings after I believe a short stint with the Houston Texans um but those were you know gims those you already knew that was going to be the case in the inside linebacker room uh where it was going to be Blake Cashman and Ivan Pace Jr uh Corners we've been uh riding The Struggle Bus a little bit uh lately you know you you lose one corner tragically you lose another one to a season ending injury maai Blackman uh but we made some additions and we found our starters the two top guys that will be starting for the Vikings are Stefan Gilmore who was just at it recently last week I believe or two weeks ago uh and Byron Murphy Jr we already knew that was going to be the case at that position the backups will be sha Griffin and Fabian maroe followed by a Caleb Evans and Dwight mcgl a Caleb Evans uh kind of fell off a little bit at the end of last season I thought he did okay uh enough to at least earn you know the cornerback three position if you will maybe play some nickel um but again I the coaching staff sees different Dwight mcglothern I do believe is also another undrafted free agent uh so we might see some uh some playing time out of him as well safeties another gimme Harrison Smith can bind him not much to be said there with the backup being Joshua or Joshua matelis and Theo Jackson and then Jay Ward switching over to the Special Teams kicker will rard wins the job he had no competition he was is nailing them uh we you know just hopefully let's hope for the best okay cuz we've had some kick and woes especially the golfers uh missing a game winning kick against North Carolina that was you know terrible to see and then Ryan W uh Ryan Wright will be our punter and then we have the Long Snapper Andrew dalala already knew that was going to be the case kickoff returners remember K Wong was on the team really unsure of why we let go of him but the coaching staff said hey we have somebody else that could be you know uh probably a better threat in the kick returning game that's Ty Chandler okay he's going to be the kickoff or the kickoff returner for us and then he will be backed up by Brandon Powell I'm sure both of them will be back there uh receiving kicks at the exact same time and then punt returners will be Brandon Powell uh to start and Jaylen Naylor if we need to bring him in uh from time to time depending on who's going to get more playing time at the wide receiver position obviously I think that's the way it would go but that is our unoficial depth chart heading into week one things could change come Sunday when we take on the New York Giants at noon I'm pumped up for it football is officially back we have a game in just two days two days until the NFL kicks off and boy I'm excited I want to hear you from you guys what let me know about your uh your thoughts in the comments
