Instant Take After Studying The Eagles Win Over Green Bay In Brazil

what's up Eagles fans I'm Fran Duffy from phly and I'm here now to share my thoughts after going through the film this is my instant analysis after going through the tape of the Eagles win over the Green Bay Packers in week one of the 2024 season what were my big takeaways I would say defensively right off the Jump the guy that stole the show was the rookie quarterback quinan Mitchell it started on the opening drive he gets that pbu on third down in the end zone against Christian Watson you see the competitiveness you see the eye discipline no Panic in quinan Mitchell from start to finish in this football game it wasn't perfect but I thought we saw a lot of really good things for a rookie Corner in his first start in a unique environment there down in Sal Paulo I loved what we saw from quinan Mitchell then defensively let's move from Back to Front I think looking at the linebacker level certainly Zack Bond 15 tackles and two sacks he was able to stuff the bo the box score but I think also ncoe Dean had a really good game as well was really decisive downhill made some plays at or behind the line of scrimmage I love what we saw from the Kobe Dean then also the defensive coordinator Vic fangio in his debut with the Eagles I thought some really well-designed disguises that were able to fool the Green Bay Packers and Jordan love certainly the interception comes to mind but there were a couple other really good examples as well where you saw fangio scheme really come to life with this Eagles defense which is a great sign considering it was just their first game working together here in Philadelphia so those would be my three big takeaways on the defensive side you look at quinan Mitchell you look at the linebackers in Bon and ncoe Dean and then Vic fangio and his scheme you go over to the other side of the football offensively certainly the guy that stole the show there the running back saquan Barkley three touchdowns in his debut reminiscent of Terell Owens all the way back in 20 in 2004 so we're going 20 years back to go back to the the kind of Debut you would expect from a superstar on offense what went into saquon Barkley's success both on the ground and through the air that receiving touchdown was a thing of beauty really welld designed by Kell Moore more on that in a little bit but I thought saquin individually was really decisive he was smooth there was excellent examples of his balance and his ability to run behind his pads he picked up some dirty yards and he also had some explosive runs that not a lot of ball carers in the NFL would have been able to execute so I thought we saw the best of saquan Barkley in this football game but then going to the offensive coordinator Kell Moore I talked about that really well-designed play to saquon Barkley in the red zone for a touchdown there were a number of those in this football game that were just dialed up plays at the right exact moment and a lot of that was against the blitz Jaylen Herz was outstanding against in this football game and that was one of the things we all wanted to see what would be the plan against pressure after how last season ended in 2023 where the Eagles just had no answers against the blitz what would be built into the structure of the offense to give Jaylen those answers and I thought we saw that time and time again in this one so I'm goingon to be breaking a lot of those plays down in my article over at phly and some of these breakdowns you want to make sure become a die hard so you can go and check out a lot of those film breakdowns Jaylen Herz was surgical against the Blitz in this football game and a lot of that was how it was built into the structure of the scheme so kudos to Kell Moore and the offensive coaching staff for giving Jaylen Herz those to those tools at his disposal and then allowing him to go out and execute great job there from Herz in this game now obviously it wasn't perfect for the quarterback those two interceptions some of those other throws there some bad decisions that to me are uncharacteristic I think when you look at Jaylen Herz overall he's not a guy that typically puts the ball In Harm's Way that way and so uh there were some other extenuating factors that I will get into in that breakdown that I think led to some of those plays but I think overall that's something I say I'm willing to kind of move on from those throws except that's probably an outlier with a guy like Jaylen Herz now that said I mentioned some of the the issues the footing that some of these players had as well that was one of my other big takeaways from this football game is that uh especially down on the line of scrimmage the guys playing in traffic often it was tough to to grade them too negatively too often you saw guys it looked like they were wearing sneakers in an ice skating rink where they just could not get their footing couldn't get their cleats in the ground so a number of bad performances in this game on both sides Eagles and Packers you almost had it's almost a wash where you say it's it's like watching guys in a Snow Game or in a monsoon where uh you almost want to just throw that tape out say hey you know what it wasn't your best performance but I'm willing to play to live until the next week and see if you're able to improve on that so I think mostly that occurred down in the line of scrimmage but some other guys uh threw out some guys were more affected by the surface than others in this football game but overall I would say defensively again the big takeaways quinan Mitchell the linebackers and then Vic fangio scheme I'll be breaking all that down offensively I think it's saquan Barkley Jaylen Herz against the Blitz and then that Kell Moore scheme the use of motion that was something that was highly talked about over the course of this offseason that was very evident here in this football game Jaylen Herz very productive with the use of motion some of the biggest plays in this game were created with guys that were on the move so a lot to break down make sure you go check out my breakdown that's upcoming here over on all phly that
