Remembering San Diego Police officer killed in the line of duty

my co-anchor Wally ALU met with officer machar's former coaches and sat down with them today to reflect on his memory you just hope to never get those phone calls you know what do you remember about coaching him just were fun you know gutsy on the field happy go-lucky guys off you know and so I was just Ju Ju Just I I would say anything like if anything the smile the energy the the the youth that the kids had you know the smile huh that's interesting the same the chief told us yesterday yeah I was looking at it last night I saw the picture when he's grown he's a handsome dude and as as a police officer and he's a young young inspiring ball player and I look at those two pictures and it's same same dude same smile same energy you know and so it was just it just really unfortunate what was he like as a player and a teammate well was a talented player big strong athletic kid but that him and and his buddies they were just they were guys that laugh and hang out right around here and then it was time for for game time they had that switch so very competitive but but just they just made the Bas they made the game fun they made the team fun life is so fragile man if I could say anything just like let you never know what can happen don't let the little things get caught up in the little things and love each other you never know if that's the last time you're going to see somebody and if they do happen to get taken before the before the time that we feel they should be here then you know find a way to celebrate their life and and and draw your loved ones together a little bit more those friendships together a little bit more that's that's my hope and and to be honest with you just knowing that group of guys um I'm confident that's going to happen you know a lot of his old teammates some guys in were in the major leagues you know texted me last night was like tell me this isn't true how will you want Austin to be remembered that smile that's what that's what I remembered I feel that if guys can kind of just bring that energy to their relationships their friendships their teams whether that team is a a BAS team or whether that team's a police department officer matchar touching so many lives stay with ABC 10 news for the latest developments on this story we will provide updates on 10news.com and our free mobile app
