on the east side of Cincinnati back actually to my roots so there you go I mean not everybody could be cool me I know I know I know this ensures that we have balance on this podcast yes it's just like the other day when when I got your number uh your number you're like yeah now I can ignore you on the on the phone now too like thanks drags how doing nice man are you ready for some football one more pre-season I am so ready I mean I'm ready there's not gonna be a starters playing or anything so it's you know it is what it is but it's still football it's going to be fun we're going to get this out of the way and get going uh to the season which brings me to uh miles Murphy uh jamer Pine reported that sounds like it was just an a MCL sprain sounds like he might be back uh by week two maybe uh have you heard any more about that from uh miles Murphy I have not but uh I obviously take James is reporting uh at its uh face value he's tremendous reporter so uh I think that's a great sign for the Bengals I think the fact that he was sitting up and uh in the front seat of the cart as he made his way back to the uh locker room yesterday to get checked out was a good sign at at that point I mean we don't know for certain at that point but the fact that he's sitting up with his knee bent um is usually an indication that they don't anticipate any uh structural or should I say stability issues serious stability issues uh in the knee if you can actually sit down and bend the knee so uh that's a good sign the Bengals have escaped dodged three major bullets y this training camp Charlie Jones miles Murphy and who was the other that I'm oh um I think Jake Browning is you could say he's he's dodged to or Sam hubard let let's go re rewind that tape Sam hubard okay AB absolutely a bullet Dodge there Charlie Jones on their first practice on the new Turf and yesterday miles Murphy exactly and that's the thing is like this is where I talked to some of the guys that at work last night and they're like oh they they got to play the starters in the last game I'm going no no don't play the starters don't play any of them let them all [ __ ] that's why I mean yesterday is exactly why look football players have to play football they have to get in game shape there is no doubt about that right but as this as training camp practices Linger on you do wonder about the value of putting or exposing uh High commodity High leverage players in positions where they could get injured heck Trey Hendrickson could have got dinged up yesterday you know and we would have been saying what are the Bengals doing exposing Joe burrow could have gotten dinged up somebody could have fallen into his leg like happened with the Patriots and Tom Brady uh way back in the day about I remember covering one of their training camp practices and uh a teammate rolled right back into his leg and he fell to the ground and the world stopped yeah and everybody couldn't breathe for about five minutes and then he got up and he was fine and whatever but um football players play they've got to get in game shape but uh in a game like tomorrow with nothing on the line you obviously everybody sits there are some interesting position battles though developing and uh I would say the number one battle I'm going to be looking at is pun punter can Ryan Rico uh do enough tomorrow to nudge out uh Brad Robins I think that's a fascinating storyline I am of the belief that Dax Hill has done enough to step forward and be the starting Corner opposite cam Taylor Brit going into camp that was certainly the number one battle that everybody had their eyes on but I I've seen enough competitive reps from Dax Hill I think louan AR rumo has seen it up and I think to a degree most important certainly the Bengal teammates have seen enough from Dax Hill that they can trust him to play that spot and not have to worry about helping out over there Von Bell made that point to me yesterday after practice in the locker room and he said if I know where Dax is going to be then that makes my job a lot easier because I know he can handle the responsibility of being on an island right exactly and the show I did earlier today with with Paul Dan Jr he's on the same page said the exact same thing that he thinks Dax is going to be the starting uh you number two corner and he doesn't think Dax is even going to play tomorrow night in his opinion which I I I still think he might play a little bit we'll see I doubt it I don't think he would put I don't think he put no I mean I I hope not I mean like I said I don't want he starter playing anyway I'm just thinking maybe let one last charge you know for those two no because if they've made up their mind that Dax Hill has shown him enough there is zero reason to expose him to any injury um I would be more of the belief that you're going to probably see Josh Newton and Allan George out there than you're going to see anybody else and and maybe a little bit of DJ Turner because they think he could use some fine tuning but I think for the most part you're gonna see a lot of Josh Newton Allen George um and and certainly the other backups uh back in the secondary um I think you've seen enough from dejon Anthony uh he is making the team I he I think he has had a very good camp they love the way he communicates and I'm about to do uh my fourth uh Ro 53 man roster projection and I think I'm GNA have uh six corners and five safeties making the team because I think Tyson Anderson makes the team good good I like Tyson Anderson no question I I think I think he's had a good camp and the kids I think he's a good player he just last he got the snake bit bit by the the injury bug so I I like him a lot now my dude uh skinny set the world on fire here earlier today on CY 360 talking about uh Jamar Chase's uh what he's heard or he thinks I should say put it this way he said it's he told me it's in his opinion is what Jamar is looking for and it's between uh what basically what Justin Jefferson got um in my opinion if that's what he's looking for now he's got no shot of getting that this year from the bank what's your thought okay it's all about the guaranteed money don't worry about the 40 million aav I don't think that is as big a deal to Jamar as how much money are the bill Bengals willing to pay him in the first two years of any contract and I don't think that number uh is lock set in stone from the Bengals right and I think Jamar is frustrated that uh you know there hasn't been enough talk and movement off that number whatever that number may be uh but that's really to me what it's all about is the guaranteed money upfront what are the Bengals willing to commit to him in cash and that is going to be an interesting storyline to follow I do not have any inside Intel on that right now it's all guess workor uh I still believe that certainly the Bengals are going to play it close to the best Jamar Chase has kept his mouth shut obviously so right now you know I mean the thing I keep saying tracks is I don't go ahead I I just keep saying this that the Bengals don't have to do anything they got him under contract for two years they don't have to do anything I understand why Jamar wants the money but the Bengals what was the last time the Bengals ever went and signed anybody two year basically two years earlier than they have to I don't I mean they didn't do that with Joe so I I just don't see them signing him I wish they would I just I just don't see it I don't I can't first of all I don't I can't recall the Bengals doing that um you're not going to win a game of chicken with the Bengals no bommer you're not GNA win that game Bengal do the Bengals love Jamar and is the situation different than Carson absolutely absolutely this is not Carson Palmer no it's not things let's put that out there right away exactly that being said you know I think Joe burrow made it clear early on he feels for Jamar he will give support to Jamar uh because he's been in jamar's shoes just last year but Joe burrow is still different than Jamar Chase he's the quarterback he's the franchise and even then uh it came down to the wire at the end of training camp for that to get done right could something get announced out of the blue in the next week week and a half yeah I I I don't rule that out I I don't and it could you know the Bengals could budge a little bit and say we'll we'll do this and what I'm curious to find out is who is making the play for shorter years and who is making the play for longer years I think the Bengals would make the play for longer years because they'd want them on their roster longer and under player control I think Jamar still being very young in the league uh would rather a three-year deal no more than a three-year extension and if you're the Bengals do you give him you know if the number is 40 do you give him 120 and 85 to 90 million guaranteed right I don't know I don't know either it's it's it's got to there's got to be a number somewhere in there maybe 60 to 70% of the total value of the contract guaranteed that Jamar is looking for um let's see Justin Jefferson I'm just thinking off the top of my head 140 110 guaranteed over the first two years of that deal is that right does that sound right that sounds about right yeah I'll look it up but anyway that's what I think the sticking point is in all of this and you know why is he sitting in well uh jamar's not going to put himself in any type of Jeopardy in terms of his health I do not believe Jamar Chase is sitting out regular season games did you ask that I I I hope skinny put this way skinny has said and and I I said two weeks out his cutdown date is his cutdown date August 28th he said if he doesn't start practicing by then he thinks he's got there's a very good chance that he could sit out but week one he's not saying he's going to he said but he's not sign or not participa in practice by then he's leaning more toward that they could they could sit out and I'm kind of with him that he might but still but then I go back to where where you know Joe said he only needs one practice with him to get him back down and we've all seen Jamar take off in the golf cart and go with a coach you know into the indoor practice facility and work there so he's doing stuff so TRS I can see it both ways I I'm literally I don't know I could see them digging their heels in and not signing them and him digging his heels in and and at least one game but then I could see it all going away and they signed here real quick so I don't I honestly I can't get a feel on it either way to be honest yeah it's a tough raid and we're just gonna have to uh wait until next week if I had to guess I'm gonna guess that Jamar returns to practice sometime mid next week I hope so that's that be perfect I I just think if he has an intention on playing and really truly being ready for the regular season I think he returns to that's the thing and that's me me and SK had a conversation about this he's like if you're not will if you're willing to sit out during training camp and you and you're not willing to sit out a game what did you accomplish other than being healthy through you know and you didn't being healthy I think you know maybe we're you know maybe skinny might be reading too much into it maybe all J Jamar hasn't said anything yeah I mean said a worda we don't know what he's thinking maybe he's just as he's saying uh through his sit in I feel the same way about training camp that everybody else does toward the end of training camp this is it's not a waste of time but it's a grind that in dude I don't need because I keep my body in exceptional condition and Jamar does he's in an exceptional shape and will two weeks of football practice get him ready probably well if that's the case then why go through all of the BS of training camp he's in all the meetings we presume or most of them anyway we've been told by uh Zach so take Zach at his word um and take Joe at his word uh he's been engaged he's been in the meetings and that was including OTAs those are all good signs so like like I said Camp I should say yeah I mean I I like I said and I agree with you it is a grind I mean I'm not down there every single day like you guys are but the days I go down there I'm like dude it's a It's a Grind for me and I'm just standing out there in the Heat and I I know I know you guys go go through it too as far as saying out there and put putting your stories out there and and and getting the interviews and all that stuff the whole thing is a grind for everybody involved it's and people don't understand that and we're we're talking about just staying there watching these guys are going through it and it's kind of monotonous too because you do the same thing over and over and over again so I I get it when guys want to want to get out of it I totally understand that I just like I said if he's doing it to to put it make his point saying hey I you know if you're not going to pay me this year you better pay me next year maybe that that's his point and and to get out of training camp I don't know we'll see what happens um but let's roll it this way you know who's looks really good I think in Camp and who should get a big pay raise next year is T Higgins I think he's had I made that point to somebody uh in my car uh this afternoon as I was uh going around and and actually it was my uh daughter's uh boyfriend who I said if there's one guy that's earned a lot of money in the training camp it's been T Higgins he's had a tremendous Camp he caught a couple of balls yesterday where are your like one the high point that was on the Bengals uh Twitter feed if you go back and look at it tremendous catch at the top got his feet down he looks in midseason form another pass on the other sideline uh he gave Joe a good Target Joe th that was to me Burrow's best throw of the day was the throw on the far sideline he had to drive the ball about 25 yards and hit T right on the money then T ran a perfect in route for a uh Red Zone touchdown uh in seven so T's look great and you know he looked great I thought in the preseason game he said he had a drop on that dime that bur through from about 45 yards out on the post route the ball was knocked away and T was probably thinking to himself I should have battled for it yeah I should have battled for it stronger and maybe gone up harder and caught the ball but still uh T had a terrific game that game I just think T Higgins is gonna get paid and I don't think it's going to be the Bengals pan no unfortun I don't think it's gonna be either but we'll see um now one thing Paul der told me uh earlier today and of course they do this one it's a practice that I can't go to uh they ran uh a two tight end set I'm very excited to see it because that's what I was hoping they would do and I don't and I don't remember maybe I missed it but I don't remember seeing that uh in training camp this year um is that is that a new wrinkle that that you've seen before or is that the first time you saw it yesterday actually asked a couple of the tight ends about the 12 formation and they kind of winked their eye nodded and um you know I think to to that point uh the two tight ends if I recall were Drew sample and Eric all yes that's what that's D yeah and Eric all do not sleep on him as a three-way tight end exactly um Drew sample's terrific as a run blocker he's good as a pass blocker but he's not a receiving tight end and I think everybody appreciates that but what he does look uh Zack Taylor has always insisted this what he does he does incredibly well he's very smart he knows the Bengals can depend on Drew sample when he's in the game but Eric all is that next level and I think they think that Eric all could be a rookie playmaker uh for them does Joe burrow trust Eric all that is a $64 million question right that may evolve as the season goes along just now I think you know what yesterday showed Iceman is that uh giki Mike giki and Joe burrow are developing um you know a Synergy and a chemistry together and it's taking three weeks of Camp plus all of the off season to get to this point you just don't flip a switch and get there with Joe burrow and that needs to be understood and Eric all Jr is a rookie all of that being said I think the tight end by far with the most upside in the B on the Bengals roster is Eric all I just think couple of the Crackdown blocks he threw in the Bears game um one that sprung I think the Logan Woodside toss to trayon Williams for a first down on fourth down um just a great job of blocking he is going to play a pivotal role in the Bengals offense as the season goes along mark my word yes I I am very excited because honestly when they first drafted him I thought he with the knee injury I thought he might start the season on the IR or P list or something like that but he came back and he's I mean you been a month ahead of schedule well you remember the first catch he made it was kind of one hand spun around that's the first catch he made in trainy Camp and I'm like oh okay like that's a good way to start so I mean he's looked impressive this whole time so with him and then gaseki finally I don't want to say finally but yeah T takes a little while to to get trust with Joe and that's where I think all is going to have to work on that but if you get those two going along with with Tanner Hudson I mean our tight end room is going to be I mean it's the best tight end room we've had since Joe Burrow's been here by by by far zero question about that and it's going to be very interesting to me to see how much they they use because I can't remember the last time like last time we had two tight end set I do we do with Andy doton I don't even remember if we had two Titans be able to do it with him then I know uh but anyway it's been a long time since we've done anything like that and that goes to the just the versatility that I think this offense can do now go and the other thing is when you have a two tight end set you're not changing receiver for receiver or running back for running back you're or receiver for running back right changing out tight ends for a running back or a tight end for a wide receiver completely throws a wrench into what the defense is set up to do and I think part of that is to give different looks to the defense and keep them on their tones because one thing I think the Bengals uh and Joe burrow have become a little bit of uh in the last couple of years offensively and we saw this even when burrow was healthy last year predictable yep Bengals do not want to be predictable on offense and I think with the weapons that they have for burrow this year with the new running back look uh that's going to be should be okay we're all optimistic in training camp but that should be another area where the Bengals are drastically better running for a first down in the red area having Chase Brown and Zach Moss both capable of pass blocking and catching the ball uh should really help the Bengals this year offensively and not all of I think not the entire load of the off offense is going to be on burrow and the wide receivers right yes well and that now let's talk about the wide receivers and a lot of fans are excited about Burton excuse me I think the fans are more excited about the about Burton than the Bengals are just going byy snap counts and and and there's a reason for that yeah and he's he they have he hasn't been running in the slot or anything I think you're you're you're number three and I've been saying this pretty much as Camp started is Yoshi and I've been impressed with what he's done I like I think Charlie Jones is gonna get some get some plays out there but those are all guys that you can move around we're not going to have the same two guys on the outside and and TB on the inside these are all different looks we can give people especially if you get chased in the slot don't sleep on Trenton Irwin that is Joe's guy yeah that is that's dude y Trenton yep so I'm curious to see what they do with the slot I think it's going to be a rotational system based on the need uh you know maybe it's third and short and they need just a dig route who do they trust to run that the best probably irn yeah probably if burrow needs if they are going to Blitz um or let's say it's third and long and they need a hot receiver on the on the uh field who's going to read quickly and read it right Trenton Irwin right I mean he has the most snaps the most experience uh I'm just curious to see how they how that position evolves who Joe has the most trust in Pitch Zach um you know at this point flip a coin right and the thing is like I always bring up uh a reason I bring up Yoshi Vash and and and and Char Jones is because Joe burrow has brought them up and if Joe burrow brings you up in a press and he's brought up Trenton R too you in the past but if he brings those those guys up specifically in you know press conferences here during training camp you have his trust he he's he's put your name out there so that that that always puts a a flag up all right Joe likes them he hasn't really mentioned Burton now I think Burton can eventually be a a weapon for us it just not might not be right now might hopefully it's toward the end of the season because he they were putting him at the slot at the beginning of training camp and he hasn't been in the slot in a while he's mostly just running go routes and a lot of special team stuff to be honest be careful on reading too much into who Joe mentions and doesn't mention he could be playing a huge game of cat and mouse good he good he kind of smart like with Germaine Burton everybody sees his talent oh yeah and Joe knows that everybody sees his talent so he's not GNA say anything one way or another he may be like I cannot wait to get Germaine Burton on the field and throw him a ball because he knows Burton can go up and snatch the ball he's got great hands and he may be like okay I'm going to keep that secret to myself you know he's talking about shed Jackson he was talking about him a little bit in offseason I think sometimes Joe does that as a way of rewarding them for putting in hard work or putting in extra hours in the film or whatever it is or asking the right questions you know that's Joe's way of saying I got you I appreciate it you know that that was a really good question that you asked in the meeting blah blah blah there you go now I have I have a question can you hear me because poor CH says he can't hear me and I don't know what's been going I hear you loud and clear can you hear me I can hear you because I mean I've had this like one person in the chat for some reason says they can't hear me like all week I'm like I don't know what's going on I got my microphone all the way up I'm like eating the freaking mic so I don't know why you can't hear me so I just want to make sure that everybody else could hear me um so all right so um what's your what's your thought all right actually I'll go Natty Ron here he had it up here yeah tracks you have any concerns on the o line no not if everybody stays healthy I think um you know they did give up a couple of pass rushes up the middle yesterday and on Monday but I am going to go off the presumption that uh they should be okay uh come uh the start of the season they are a veteran line they have Alex Kappa they have Ted Caris and they have um obviously um Cole um no no no C Bolson BS sorry sorry Long training camp Iceman I know I was looking at my volume when I was don't listenor go I believe the interior Line's going to be very good I think the big question here is can Trent Brown stay on the field uh and if uh amarius Mims right doesn't come back in week one right is Cody Ford enough of a Band-Aid to start the season I happen to believe he is I think he he's shown in the last week or so to be a very dependable not spectacular but very dependable right tackle and then I think Orlando Brown's going to be much better this year having adjusted uh to the Bengals system I I really do I'd be very surprised if Orlando Brown Jr doesn't have a better year and a better start to his second year than he did his first season right in Cincinnati so to answer your question I think the offensive line will be fine yeah now I my my curiosity is um Trent Brown um since he's going to be a starting right tackle now and there was thoughts that Mims might have beat him out here with Mims you know got the peck injury do you think if Mims or when Mims comes back and he's completely healthy and he's got a PR instantly he's got a practice and he's show say he's showing more uh in practice and looking like he might be a better right tackle than Trent Brown is you know after he gets healed up and gets gets back into the swing of things do you see them switching or it would it be a Thing If Trent Brown gets hurt they'll wait for that to to switch the way I I see this unfolding the way it happened in New England when I was there in 2018 Trent Brown got his reps at right tackle but he was mainly used as a third third tackle on jumbo packages which is another which was at the time another indication of what the Bengals are thinking this year they know they have to be better running the ball in the Red Zone they have been abysmally bad in that area it's not all Joe mixon's fault uh wasn't all Joe mixon's fault they have to be more dominant at the point of attack and I think drafting a Mims who was the best tackle on the board at 18 I think that was a terrif pick I think signing Trent Brown to a very lowrisk one-year deal was a smart move and you bookend him with Orlando Brown on the other side you bring in Eric all who's a terrific tight a blocking tight end you have drew sample you look how many different formations just in potential jumbo sets and jumbo packages you have inside the 10 yard line they that is one area watch for the Bengals to be much better in this year uh than they have been the last couple of years and they God knows they needed to be better yes in that area exactly now um but we got college football com up here soon and you're covering the Bearcats are you covering beats football this year so all right what is your to me just real quick and then I'll get you out of here um I think the be heits actually have a shot at at being B eligible six and six kind where where I'm at what's your thoughts on how how this season's going to go uh uh uh uh stats what's it what geez now I'm doing I can't think of the the Bearcats foot football coach um Scott saterfield saterfield thank you yeah sat not much I know about them you know that much good better than I do I don't know the head coach right now but uh I yeah I think they're at least GNA be bull eligable this year I think it's be better next year what's your thoughts uh Brendan sorby trans from Indiana I think is uh going to help improve their pass game um Corey ker their running back I think last year the one thing that they did do well under coach sat was run the ball and I think he's going uh to be able to run the ball again what I curious to see is Dante corleon had that scare in uh the off season actually as the Bearcats training camp was opening up um he had that blood clot situation and you know that has apparently passed or is in the process of passing and play week one or or do I haven't heard that yet TBD I I'm I'm gonna say I don't know yet um I just know that uh you know whether or not they need him against progressed a lot faster than it seemed like he would when this first happened correct yeah I thought he might be out the year I did too yeah the story first broke but that is uh not the case talking to Dan hord he thinks that corleon should be able to get on the field pretty early in the season and that again is another bullet dodged uh for the Bearcats they have the potential okay they have the potential to get off to a 4 and0 start if they do that they're definitely going to be bull eligible I see them winning you know two more three three more games after a 4 and0 start absolutely so the to me the key to the Bearcat season is how they start and they start with three of their first four games at home and uh that would be uh talson as as I mentioned Pittsburgh then they have uh Miami at joerger Stadium yep and then they have Houston at Cincinnati those are game they need to get they should win all those games they they really should they really should win all four of those games Pittsburgh to me will probably be the toughest test but if they get off to a 4-0 start they were going to be 3 and0 last year Iceman until they blew the Miami game that that that Miami game ruined the whole damn season track ruined it really threw a monkey wrench into sder Field's whole vibe he had going because that that win in Pittsburgh last year that was a legit good win I was like oh we might have something here then when they threw threw out all the Goodwill and then it was a train w the rest well the the other one like other one really I I they had me and then I'm like damn it it was the bru game because they were in that game and then the second first half was up and down second half was just I'm like what the heck I it was there a lot of games last year that that were frustrating for the football team and the basketball team but what I do want to ask you here for before I get you out here is what's your thoughts because this I think or this year next year it's been the last uh years of the uh the uh uh Bell uh the the Miami I don't yeah yeah I I hate it I I mean I I don't like it I I it's the long I think it is the longest rivalry in college football I think it is it's going to go away now and I know and think it say like uc's dominated all up until last year Miami's finally starting to come around to make this possibly a game and now we're not gonna do it I I don't like it I yeah I know but it's just it's some things they need to be able to keep I mean there I mean there is no good college rivalry I mean you got Ohio State Michigan you got the Red River rivalry that are like big ones and that's there's not a whole lot more you don't have the backyard B anymore doesn't do it for you no not well in fo and for the Bengals yeah but not they tried I mean they they that in the Big East so they call it the the the River City rivalry yes we actually have a title for I got a poster over there with it which that's the other weird thing did did they even bring that back the the the they did the trophy okay I I don't remember if they did or not so I mean yeah I guess it does but it's still not Miami Miami's been no of course anybody who grew up here like you and me did yeah my dad took me to my first college games at Miami Field and Nipper and that's how I learned about college football was through that rivalry exactly and it's just sucks don't get me it sucks it's I ha terrible idea everything's run by money in college the whole thing when they doing they're doing the UC Dayton game which I'm glad they're playing but they're playing it down at the Coliseum why don't and I still call it the Coliseum why they play yeah I'm not calling it whatever the hell they call it now but why they play it at 5ifth third and well then why they play it up at Dayton why I mean because I'm sorry Fifth Third Fifth Third Arena spent all this money and made this a a gorgeous basketball arena Miami UD arena is a great basketball arena they they use it yeah they use it for the first first four in I still call it that again for the NCA tournament but you want to go to one that's it was supposed to be made for hockey I mean that's what it's designed for is hockey not basketball I don't so I you can't tell me money because it's not that much bigger I I don't think it is any bigger than fifth actually it's what is it500 in 15,000 yes yeah and and what's what's what's colise about that that's 14 something I think actually I think it's smaller to be honest or am I getting the numbers wrong no it's I I think um 5ifth third is something like 17 yeah uh and uh Heritage Bank Arena is in the 16s but I'd have to look that up yeah so it's it's not even that it's not even the size of the Arena so that's why if you want to say money why are they playing that game there uh I know you don't know the answer I just I don't know why I just also went off on a tangent on that I know you and me are thinking the same way there so let's see uh for the record I because I want to be accurate yeah oh Heritage Bank is 1755 six okay okay and 53d it used to be 135 is what it used to be before they yeah it's bigger than that now it is 13176 so Heritage Bank is significantly bigger in terms capacity I guess it is that much better but I mean it's F3 is so much better anyway tacks you I know it's been a long train Camp uh got the Reds you got you cover the Reds you cover the Bengals you cover the Bearcats I mean
