well only a couple of guys back from last year's team the good thing for Midland is they had the same defensive coordinator a lot of the guys on staff stayed even though Luke Sammons left and took a job at Paris Kentucky but they are reeling right now they have been punched right in the mouth here in the first quarter with a minute 42 to go really about first couple weeks uh defensively for iron the one sort of weakness if you want to call it that was their pass defense it seemed like Jackson especially had some guys uh running free iron's got some really talented guys in the back end but they're young haven't played a ton so Jackson's going or I'm sorry mid is going to need to be able to exploit that um The Run game so far has gone has obviously produced very little um if they're not able to throw the ball obviously you're down 20 to nothing uh you you you're going to have to throw the ball at some point you can't expect to run the ball run your way back in the game and top of needing some stops but uh if they can't take advantage of that one weekness ion seems to have had the first couple weeks um could be a pretty long night for yeah it's been a long quarter for sure for those up guys and you get a squid kick like that and you're one you're trying to see who's going to be running at you secondly you got to and I guess maybe in Reverse one you got to grab the ball secondly oh man there's somebody running right at me and uh there there's no fair catch for those guys you know it's just it's just a Scramble for the ball and someone's going to make someone's going to take the worst end of it it's probably going to end up being you looks like he's walking off the field kind of scary when you see the officials motion that quickly but uh at least he's walking off still got his helmet I'm sure the trainers are going want to take a little bit of a closer look at him but it'll be first down in 10 kns so the knights have it at the 48 their best field position of of Thursday this week there was talk that well we're going to have St Francis play mhler and iron we're going to play somebody else some we're trying to get somebody from Pennsylvania but nothing again we talked about in the pregame ironon knew they didn't play well last year turnovers penalties and it left a bad taste in their mouth and they had to prove something this year they wanted to prove something and they've done that so far yeah M mid was a good team last year there there was no shame and losing the game but you didn't feel like it was I put forth their best effort and got beat by a better team on that day it was they might have got beat by a better team but they also just absolutely across the board a lack of execution turnovers penalties all that um really outside of the the the big plate of Tyler roacher early second half once you get through halftime it was very clear the Midland was just kind of doing what they wanted and I really didn't have much of an answer so uh certainly a little bit different story early here tonight um long game yet but you haven't seen much in the way of indicating anything other than IR can run away with this is I mean I hate to ask this this early but what is the running clock roll the same r no it's fourth quarter in West Virginia it's uh 30 points fourth quarter Iron's had running clocks in the first two weeks of the good athlete but if he's not able to even threaten pass a little bit and you got 11 orange hats coming downhill you're asking a lot of him to say stand in the Middle Field grab the ball and go Shan Terry did it last week shant Terry is a little bit different than the vast vast majority of of high school players probably almost every high school player I've ever seen if not every high school player I've ever seen so it's just a tough assignment I mean grinding out two and three yards can be done but you know consistently moving the ball I I think I I think that's just going to be really tough without the threat of a pass and if he's not the normal quarterback obviously not much of a threat there so they've had one pass right yeah and it was the miscommunication yep um over one you yeah you have to put the ball in the air and when uh I was talking with Coach Ashworth earlier this week he said we might get back to the Midland that we've seen in the past before coach Sammons and and that Midland from what I remember was kind of a wing te set um coach Jim thornberg who ran that now there was coaching in between but um Jim thornber always ran the wing T say this is kind of a modernish wing te you know the spread but they still got the Motions behind the quarterback and the option looks off of it at times third down for the knights from the 31 y you know the spread put your athletes one-on-one but it also put your lineman kind of not one-on-one but you know you're talking you got to win up front and right now that's just not happening and honestly almost almost doesn't matter what offens if you run if you're not winning up front consistently but um you know I I feel like they got to at least have a threat of a pass or or it's going to be even longer night by Elijah Pratt and really for the first time Braden Shrek had some pressure on that pass attempt but even then he he's got guys in his face but he puts the ball on a place where either breaker's going to catch up for three yards or it's incomplete you know he's not really in Danger get sa he just does a great job when pressure is in his face of staying calm and making the right decision lost they got transfers that came in and they're just going to run over ironon tonight not what was a Lee Coro says not so fast my friend my friend usually not so fast my friends are not up 40 to nothing in the first half either so even even even my man lee I hope he doesn't forever would not would not have been able to predict this sort of margin this early in the game no really at any point different place would probably get in 15 20 times a game but he just plays hard offense plays hard defense and I think he's probably content you know being on a on a quality team in a quality this makes the biggest difference in the world but I I I do wonder if if they had it to do over again would you schedule a week one game because this you're kind of putting yourself at a little bit of a disadvantage you're going to play someone who's experienced and also now you don't have that bye down the road you're going you're going into the playoffs and you've played 10 weeks in a row where your opponent probably has it maybe they couldn't find a game but I would think I would not want to be someone's third game if I was our first one two flags on the play little uh flag the Tyson Harvey was tackled near Midfield by Bryson Smith and that's probably going to be a personal foul penalty against him all Sportsman like conduct personal foul number 12 clock is down to 3 seconds you don't do the first half and we saw that last week against Jackson where the uh nice job nice job on the stats Dawson um Jackson didn't stop IR the only thing that stopped him was the interception on the first quarter drive on fourth down uh but other than that 51 points and Jackson's defense couldn't stop iron Midland has had no answer for iron here tonight regardless of where the ball has been and this is just an outstanding performance by this fighting tiger team against a a large school like we said the second largest school in the state of West Virginia playing their first game and um again you're almost speechless at this point right I'm sure um if you're a coach and you're dreaming of what's my first half going to look like and even your worst nightmares you're not down 40th a half because you know at the end of the day the kids are not stupid they know the result is over from a win loss perspective uh but you know you have a half to go out there and work on things and get some positivity going and in your in Midland spot you need anything I mean ir's probably going to play some backups um I don't know what their what their JV status is come Monday but um you know they're they're going to a lot of guys who may not have thought they were getting the game were going to get in the game so you you need to go out in in the second half and work on execution of of what you want to do and what your what you what you want your Staples to be going forward because whatever they've tried denight has not worked uh you said naida is has been shut down even the most productive guy they have is is 5 for 29 so it just been a complete struggle offensively obviously defensively they have been offered able to offer very little resistance I I don't I think this is a case where Midland is is this bad as bad as they've looked um you know I still think they can have a quality season um but you know week one I don't I don't think obviously I don't think they're as good as they have been and but that was about as good a half of iron football as I've ever seen I mean it just everything they did worked and it look it didn't look like it was Midland's fault NE just iron ex every every everything they wanted to run they executed extremely well obviously Midland helped them along a little bit but you still have to execute you still you still have to do your job and iron just got skill guys all over the place and their line you know does a a good job and certainly good enough given you know what they have on the outside what they have in the back field what they have with the quarterback position so um just you know second half you have you have two quarters to get better bottom line and for both teams so and oh by the way ironon gets the ball to start the second half remember they won the the toss deferred to the second half so they'll get the football and you how long will we leave the the ones in to get some work maybe this series uh depending on how things go in the second half but this is again just been a dominant performance by the fighting tigers and you know if like you said if you're Cal Middle first game of the season and in the grand scheme of things doesn't really mean anything for them it's not a a playoff spot it's not a conference game yeah would have been nice to get a win and play well against a pretty good football team but with all the newness running around you've got nine more games like you said to get better and them being in the large School Division the class 4A which they instituted this year uh Midland is going to make the playoffs you know everybody in class 4A is going to make the playoffs they'd like to have a little higher seed so you don't have to face somebody like Martinsburg in the first round but again a lot to learn from week one and you know coaches always say you make your most Improvement win between week one and week two and they've got George Washington a pretty good football team next week so
