back behind the Velvet Rope let's just get right into it today because we are joined by the one the only Sherry Vine hi what's going on where are you you asked me where I was before we went live where are you in the world today I'm Burbank California Los Angeles suburbs never thought I would end up here but I now love it you love it right I split my time between New York and la so I get it you know it's nice when I moved here I was like oh I have to live in Silver Lake or Echo Park Somewhere super cool and I ended up in Burbank and I was like oh no no no and then the pandemic happened and then I was like oh now I love it I like Burbank I mean first of all when you could fly out of the Burbank Airport your life is like just I live in Hollywood when I'm there so I mean that too is like it's such a pleasure I tell people why are you going to LAX I you know I go to LAX because I only fly Delta so I could literally walk to the Burbank airport but I go to LAX because I like Delta so I'm an idiot but that's what everyone says it's always because of Delta see I just got in with Jet Blue and you know that's I yes Delta is better but I'm not switching at this point in my life but it's not about me it's about you because the Sherry Vine Variety Show season 3 back on TV on out TV you're here welcome congratulations I mean for everyone it's it came back August 1 for everyone who has not seen the first two seasons or who is living under a rock tell people what they can expect if they tune into the Sherry Bine variety show well for sure I can guarantee laughs and fun I mean they're all just really silly and fun there's commercial parodies there's original songs so music videos sketches interviews and each season we've kind of changed a little bit like season one there were was a lot of interviews with the guests and stuff and then in season two we're like well let's try to get more sketches in and now with season 3 I feel like it's it just moves so fast we did a Premiere party the other night and we were watching and I'm like oh my gosh episode one feels like two minutes it goes so fast because we just stuffed it with so much content there's a lot in there right yeah speaking of you know you're in La now and you never thought you would end up there um and it is great I've seen the episodes this season everyone needs to watch it and it is jam-packed but you know you like me came of age so to speak in the 90s uh at a certain time in New York City like I saw all your shows back then like Barracuda and barau and everything you did with Jackie beat and the East Village like now New York has ch changed a lot of course but like when you think back to that time like what was that time like for you like how would you describe that time in your life well the it was so fun I mean I literally can't find the words to express how much fun New York City was I mean of course it was juxtaposed with a very dark scary side but I think we all in New York were kind kind of like in the face of that we're going to have fun so we had fun like when people ask me like oh did you watch this TV show from the I'm like no I wasn't watching TV in the 90s we were out every single night and it was certainly at that time in New York City pre Giuliani you know it was anything goes and coming kind of a super kind of repressed High School experience of being bullied and stuff and it was just not knowing who I was that I just was like I'm a butterfly now and so that's what the 90s were for me me too I you know was bullied in high school had no life studied in college got straight A then went to law school so yes when I went to when I moved to New York I regressed and just was like I care about my career not at all I care about nothing I just care about going out period the end exactly the same with me minus law school and then you grow out of that and now if you want me to leave the house I'm like what some friends of mine were like Hey we're gonna go to dinner do you want to meet us at 8 o'clock I'm like eight are we in Spain totally the same way my friends if I'm out I can stay out all night but that's very rare and yes if you want me to meet for dinner past like 7 7:30 it's not happening where did you originally come up with your name Sher Vine well I was living in La the first time because I went to college here so I was and I was waiting tables at this restaurant on Santa Monica Boulevard Boulevard called the French Market which is gone now but it was very famous historics like the gay this huge restaurant and um we just would laugh and be so silly anyway I was like going to do drags first time and my friend who I worked with was like helping me with the look and the hair and everything and I was like oh she looks like a Sherry and I have no idea why I was just like she looks like a Sherry so my name was Sherry for the first like couple of months that I did drag and then someone that I worked with there this guy John was like there is this apartment building on Vine Street above Hollywood Boulevard called the Sherry I was like what and I drove by it I was like oh my God it looks like a busted old crack wh house that is perfect Sherry Vine and the rest is history right is it I mean there was a time like maybe two or three years into performing a drag where I was like I wish I had a funny name like head of lettuce or even like the lady bunny something like kind of old school drag but I was like I'm not going to change it now so you're like the ship has sailed it's it it's Sherry yeah well the Sherry Vine variety show has comedy it has song it has everything a good variety show would have did you grow up like in the 70s and 80s Like Loving those classic variety shows oh honey I talk about all the time yes I mean I was obsessed with Carol brunette that's like Ground Zero for inspiration and then I watched all of them Donnie and Marie The Mandrell Sisters certainly sunny and Shar I remember being in the kitchen with my mom and on the TV I think they announced sunny and share were getting divorced and I burst into tears and my mom is like why are you crying you don't know them I mean I was devastated so um yeah I was obsessed with all of that same here I watched Carol Bernette it was all about share for me from the beginning they're both still do you watch pal Royale now with Carol Bernett did you watch the first season of course oh my god of course I mean I have a great story where um Watch What Happens live in a while they would bring on drag queens and usually it would be like okay Drew Barrymore is gonna be a guest so we need three drag queens to do different characters that she portrayed like I was Little Edie when they had Julianne uh Moore on I was uh character from Boogie kns and had just been on with Alexis Michelle when they were promoting the movie for absolutely fabulous and I was paty she was uina and they were like mentioned oh you know next week we've got Carol Bernette I'm like I have to be there and they're like well we just had you and I'm like no you don't understand and I begged them they're like okay okay you could come on so I did Mrs ha Wiggins and I walked out and she lost it like she couldn't stop laughing and after the show she come up and hugged me and I was just like floating on a cloud you were like dream come true right dream come true I got a pat on the back from my number one icon inspiration so it was just this a really amazing Mo and both both my parents watched it and they were both just like okay we know what that
