Ernest Jones Trade

all right so let's talk a little bit about the Rams and figure out what's going on within this off season so obviously reading the comments it seems like a lot of Rams Fans are a little bit upset understandable now although I do this is obviously GNA start about Ernest Jones although I do like Ernest I think he's a pretty good linebacker I think if you look at his stats um you know a tackling machine pretty good in the blitz decent in coverage but and not saying anything that everybody doesn't already know but Rams don't really value the linebacker position that much A lot of their defense involves um safeties um nickels you know what I mean um you know they they very rarely utilize or pay linebackers um but I listened to mcvey's press conference recently and I think it's pretty telling on this his response to everything a lot of people were surprised the reporters were surprised that this trade happened now granted grams are really really bad at [ __ ] trades look at what happened with Jaylen or Robert Woods or any of these guys we don't usually get fleed when it comes back to what we're getting we're almost always giving up picks to take pretty good players but whatever I think uh um what can be said with Earnest is McVey said that this has been an ongoing situation been talking since off the off season production I am just assuming we're not there at the OTAs we're not there in practice every I believe that the other linebackers um in place and you know from Troy reader which I know sounds crazy um but from Troy reader to Omar Spates uh to Rose boom I think McVey is basically kind of saying that listen as good as Earnest is the production of these other guys was not that far off or at times was better it's as crazy as that's I'm not I don't know it doesn't seem like he's too worried about losing that position they could have kept him on on contract they could have had him play the remaining they wanted to get rid of him for some reason and it doesn't seem like he's too worried about it and I think on another scale looking that you know Kiren everyone's kind of been out of shape that Kiren is going to be returning punts but McVey you know he said he felt confident with Blake km and what if in practice what if Blake km is the better looking running back what if he's the one that's making most of the plays what if he's the one that's looking more impressive and in order to over I got two good backs but my rookie is a little bit better you could argue that if you look at a college career obviously Blake kind of better cause career than Karen um and maybe that's the reason why you know what I feel confident enough that if we didn't have Karen Blake would be a pretty good you know running back rb1 let's utilize Ken in that in that um in the in the Special Teams as well so we have a better chance to get points you know on on special teams and if for whatever reason he needs a break he feels confident in throwing kir in so I honestly think that I know people are like oh my God it's it's we losing Ernest Ernest is a good player don't get me wrong but Ernest was not a top 10 linebacker I don't think you know he's not better than Patrick queen or Fred Warner you know if if you look at the list of the best linebackers in the league I don't think he can be his top 10 um so I do in the way the Rams play the defense I do think more than anything especially losing a guy like Aaron you're going to want you know you're going to want to stop the run and if you look at Omar Spates what he was like a heat seeking missile um I believe that he might be a better tackler um run you know run stopper than Ernest um and then when it comes to the leadership and all that I think guys like tro reer probably and and Rose would probably do a good job calling a defense so I'm not saying that these guys are better than Ernest but I do think that more than likely um Ernest production wasn't so wasn't so much better cuz think about it if if Ernest was really that guy in practice do you really think the Rams would have gotten rid of him you do you really think the Rams would have tra created Robert Woods if he was playing on a Cooper cup if he was playing on a Cooper cup level no you really think you know I'm not saying the Rams don't get good don't get rid of good players I'm not saying that but if this guy was truly the would never have traded Aaron Don you know they brought up Captain say Quon Lake who I've liked for a long time and um and um KOB Durant these guys must be having really good camps we have a lot of safeties so I don't think that that linebacker position is going to be utiliz a bunch in coverage I'm sure they're going to have a bunch of things going on with the safeties um maybe on heavy run packages you're going to have those guys go in I just don't think the way the defense is tiering to with whatever is going to do I don't think you need a top tier linebacker unless they're that special and I don't think Ernest is that special like he's a really good player like with Jay Jay's year jaylen's year before he left um with Jaylen jaylen's year before he left uh wasn't great year I'm not say Jaylen was still a great Corner still top still top 10 corner for the money he was getting paid his last year with the Rams really wasn't that great he was taking a lot of chances um you know getting burned a few times just making bad decisions and granted it's a hard position they put him on the island by himself he did play pretty well but there was times where he he didn't necessarily play entirely well entirely well and then obviously jaylen's attitude like he obviously he a guy that doesn't like to lose look at everywhere when he was in Jacksonville when things started going down south he wasn't happy he talks early on podcast saying that when he first got to the Rams and the Rams were losing he thought he got to the wrong place and he had just gotten there so I think for culture and everything for a team that was going to be young and they didn't know where it was going to be they didn't want anybody who was going to be there and get super frustrated they wanted young guys they want a mature guys they wanted guys that understood that hey even if we're losing stick together don't get all pissed off don't get all you know I mean that's what they have now I don't say Ernest was that kind of guy but I don't think Ernest is was a I don't think his talent was going to be good enough for this scheme to to to keep him or to pay him and I definitely didn't think he was going to get he was going to get an extension I didn't think that was a possibility but the fact that they didn't even want to have him play out his remaining deal tells me that the production that these other guys were doing remember was a little bit banged up but the production these guys were doing probably was pretty good for the defense I think this defense is going to be better than expected based off of what McVey is saying I think most of those plays that were being made was so I don't know I'm not too worried about it um you know I'm not too worried about it I think the defense will be pretty good but everybody's kind of then I'm not that bummed about it like I lik erns and Grant they could burn us you know there's a chance we could get gashed seems like a lot of reporters believe that this is going to be a terrible run defense because you lost Ernest I don't know man I I think they got a pretty good rotation of guys you know I mean um I think I think we've been okay and even even even though aon's not going to be there there's there was a few games not last year but the year before last year where Aaron got banged up and the defense still held us Z you know what I mean not every team has an Aaron Donald but teams still on a regular basis have a tendency to still have a good defense there still going to be a number one number one number two number three run defense pass defense and none of those teams are going to have Aaron Don someone's still going to have the best defense this year so I'm not saying that losing Aaron is a big isn't a big deal but when you lose a guy like Aaron you just have to find ways to over to compensate for the you know for the production you've lost and what you can do is from a colle you know what I mean and look at what you got you got byon young you know I mean who a lot of redrafts if you if you look at a lot of redrafts I don't know if any of you guys look into that if you do they usually what they'll do is they'll take players who got drafted they wait for the season to end and they'll say hey based off the production of this year where would these guys get drafted you know if if you would dra do the draft all over again and in that draft the Rams have three first round draft picks um should have and it would have been iron young Kobe Turner and bua so if you look at that from n you have two guys that if it would have be redrafted would have gone the first round based off their production um and and that's who's on your defense now then you add a a legit first rounder and and Jared verse who you know you know who was a top do matter how you looked at it he was a top three Ed rusher whether it was Lau whether it was Dallas Turner no matter how you looked at it g ver you know he was one two or three um so you add that that aspect to to um to your defense and then you have Bren Fisk who has a lot of freaky athleticism kind of similar to Aaron not saying he's going to be the same but I think his athleticism mix with him having smaller arms being a little bit of a shorter guy not necessarily in height but just you know in length and everything like that I think then Aaron still being around the building helping these guys out you have a lot of guys who have that experience to play with Aaron um you know a lot of a a lot of athleticism you add that to the situation now you fix your Corner situation you know you you know there's always things you can do still right but you know your corn you're playing with you know with you know with with six round picks last year you know what I mean you know you're you know you're playing with guys who weren't you know weren't that talented last year from the secondary standpoint you know now you you basically upgrade that with and darus mor know Kobe Durant seems to be doing really good you got Quinton Lake you know he's really good you got cam cin cam kitchen you still got John Johnson you still got Rush e um you know what I mean a lot of these guys have a ton of experience so that's exciting too I just think there's a a very few chances I see this defense being bad then offensively the same thing you know what I mean I think this offensive line is better it's just it's better and like a guy like Logan brush who's been playing really well who I didn't really believe in when they drafted him not that I didn't believe in him but like the prodction early off seemed really terrible and I thought he was a complete bust but he's look good you know he's stuck in there and and and he might be and he's a he's a third round draft believe you know I yeah I believe he's a third round he's a third round draft so you would expect a lot more from that and now he seems to slowly start be living living up to that you you were able to keep Joseph no who's like a Swit army knife which is great because now allic Jackson being out it's good to have a guy like that you know what I mean and then McLendon Jr you know if you if you are going to be missing Henderson I not Henderson um havenstein for whatever reason if you are going to be missing him um you are going to be missing him for whatever reason it's really good to have the opportunity to to basically look and say okay um you know this big boy from Georgia who's he's tall and he's he's huge and probably more athletic than um havenstein and he he could be almost like you know the air to that position um it's good to be able to see him out there um if he has to play Doom think he play pretty good in preseason and then you you still have St V at Center but you really like Bo Limer and if you needed Jonah Jackson wasn't ready you feel you really probably feel comfortable switching um switching Ste Villa back to left guard and playing B Limer no matter how you kind of situate it this offensive line should be good and then if you look the receiver room same thing you know help's healthy you know puka just got back to practice you know um Demarcus uh Demarcus Robinson looks great you know what I mean he almost reminds me of what Allan Robinson should have been when he came to the r right um but Demarcus has his great chemistry with Stafford he wasn't utilized all he was only utilized towards the end of end of the season in the end of the season I think he had he scored a touchdown on every single game show you you know what that was now you're going to have for for an entire offseason he didn't have one last year he came in he came in mid-season now I don't want to say mid-season but he he didn't he didn't he didn't um he didn't um do the OTAs be right um he wasn't able to to to have that chemistry with Stafford um then you know what I mean um so now Switching gears you're able to to have him have a full you know off season thr with Stafford he's been looking pretty good H Johnson's a good death player and you have Jordan wton who has you know kind of has that that unselfish um possession big body type of receiver that P is so um but did I mention that cup is healthy so you know I I just think on many on many levels and then Stafford you know obviously he's doing his thing and if you look at Stafford um the end of last season i' I've said this to a couple of my friends you know there was no better quarterback than Matthew Sapp towards that towards the last quarter the season last year you know if you look at his I think he was like 12 touchdowns four interceptions um he threw for 10 yards just you know after you know after the buy when things started really getting together he just locked in man and and and granted I know Stafford has a name of being like kind of Reckless and a gunslinger and and and those things can happen at times but I still believe that with McVey and Stafford there's time and there's going to be an opportunity for at least one MVP with this match up I believe it's going to happen I believe because I told you if Stafford would have played the entire season um like he did towards the end of that season right you know prior to the he started off kind of banged up and kind of injured and then by came and things kind of got better he got a little bit healthier but um if things if he would have played and even in the playoff game I'm against Detroit you know three touchdowns no interceptions played extremely good you you're matching against a team that's far superior than you almost every way better offensive line better defensive line you know what I mean better receiver you know what I mean um you could argue their secondary was the weakest point but the RAM secondary wasn't that great either last year and you lose that game by one point you know I mean and it was a couple calls that really didn't go your way so if zaffre can come out of the gate kind of like he did in 2021 right where had a bunch of receivers you know that that roster was stacked with Talent it almost feels very similar um you know with cup healthy and hooka woodon and and you have a run game and for block you have decent tight ends I forgot to mention them Kobe paron who's doing really good in Camp um and Davis Allen which I really really like um I just think gives an opportunity for Stafford to tend to be a 5,000 yard season an MVP season he interceptions down which I think he can um you know based off the last time we saw him play football but we'll see you know if he starts doing some bonehead stuff um you know it could be a little bit of a rougher season but obviously it doesn't mean you can't SCH he won a school still you know throwing you know double digit interception so um you know we'll see what happens I'm excited for the season um I think you know a lot of Rams Fans are kind of taking it out of context this isn't the first time we traded guys away you know that maybe we necessarily didn't like but it seems to have always worked out they're seeing something that we're not seeing they they obviously are seeing something seeing something from the other guys Big Bay literally said based off the production based off how these guys going the reporters even asked John if he saw a situation where he he would go and get a veteran and that's what I thought maybe I said okay well you know maybe they'll just go ahead and maybe there's something you know in the works because if you remember when they got Von Miller I'm I'm drawing a blank on his name but there was a another outside linebacker we had oh I forgot his name bald out in the in the in the Bucks game but anyway they they they had traded him and then shortly after the trade that's when they got Von Miller so I thought okay well maybe um maybe there's a chance um that I'm like maybe there's a chance that uh that the Rams can go and trade for another OPP it's Kenny young Kenny young the Rams traded Kenny young for uh to you know and then eventually end up bringing on Von Miller so first I thought okay well maybe that's a possibility like maybe we're looking at at a situation where um the Rams are going to go out here and maybe trade for another linebacker but based off what M McVey said he said he liked what what we had he was really confident in that room he was confident in the guys he had but like I said I think they're seeing stuff in practice you know on film that maybe we don't see or that we don't know and they're like you know what this production is pretty good from these guys it's not that much different than Ernest or in some places it's better than nnest Ernest is kind of banged up and he was banged up last year um I'm not too worried like I said Rams have never put a lot of emphasis on their linebackers and they went to two Super Bowls so you know you don't necessar like if your if your defensive you know focuses on having a really good middle linebacker of course you need Rams defensive need to have that and I think the secondary and9 going to be better from last I just think it is like yeah you do baby I get that that's tough but they definitely put a lot of effort into filling up that hole and adding that that production the collect the collection of guys when's the last time have you seen when's the last time you've seen the Rams draft defensive play here in the first round you know obviously the Rams almost never have any first round drop anyway but it just shows you like once you lose Aaron you're like okay now we need that now we need to get a premier you know Edge rusher a premier first round legit Talent we do not have a if Aaron was here they probably wouldn't have gone that probably would have gotten maybe traded up or traded down you see what I'm saying so you know now it worked out that you did have a guy like jar you did have a guy like f those guys who can collectively together mix with Byron young Kobe Turner still give up good level of production especially that when you know the Rams for you know probably like last year most of the pressure was from you know with there from the inside you know we really haven't put a a big emphasis on that outside Rush yes we had David long yes we had not David long um we had um get Dante Fowler sorry Dante Fowler um you know you have you you had a couple guys who was able to play at that Ed position you see Ron Miller get some production but you know obviously with Aaron Donald you can kind of do that right now he's not there they put more emphasis like most teams have to do to finding a really good outside edge rusher you know like L Dallas you know having Michael Parson you know there's no need fora Mar on that team if you have an Aron but they did so they went out and and got their guy I think be ver had a chance to you know not just him by himself but mix with other guys on his defensive line as well to do some really great things so we will see you know I I just you know I I I I'm not concerned you know um I still think this is going to be a really good team I think this is a Super Bowl a Super Bowl team um obviously like I said it depends on a lot but if if if if uh Stafford is Stafford and he can play like you play at the end of last year k um in the offensive line like he did last year um I love like I said I'm used to seeing the Rams suck and be terrible in the preseason I remember IID watch preseason like I don't damn this is our backups how we going to win in games but you know usually we still do pretty well the fact that the backups preseason played that well the depth on this team is better than your of the past so because it's better that's where I feel like H there's going to be a really good chance that um that uh that that that we're going to get better production than kind of expected so you know hopefully you know we'll see obviously week one is around the corner and um you know that'll tell us a lot you know the lons are going to be a really tough team to be but you know like anything else you know Jared's greatest weakness is you know the fact that Under Pressure you can make some bonad mistakes then the second half of that Detroit and RAM game they didn't really do anything defense really shut him down it was just that first half that has some issues um so you know now I believe we'll be able to get a lot more pressure um this defense because we have that outside guys we'll see how it goes but you know that's my my thoughts on Earnest that's my thoughts on how exactly you know that trade I get it it's frustrating I get it you don't want to see Kar return um I get it but I think I think there's a reason this is happening I think this is better team than expect I think B seeing it's like wow man this this this roster St this is we're playing extremely well and I think that level of play and what they've seen in practice is making chance you know and do some things that might be kind of forign to us um but I think the result will be pretty good just depends on you know St continue to be him you know he doesn't have a lot of competition quarterback the best quarterback in the NFC he's the only World winning champion in the NFC I believe um so you know he's atast starting quarterback so he just needs to go out there and show it man go out there and you know you don't have to worry about your Brady's or your Aaron Rogers you know what I mean just play within your realm of what you can do man this this this team should be reminiscent you know cuz you get down in LA in 2021 obviously you want to the next year you kind of have that slum there was kind of like a bunch of injuries it's kind of a weird year and then the next season after that same thing injuries weird year and then um you know so I'm lying so it was a Down injuries and everything like that and then last year which of the year three um was just a bunch of young guys but you still were able to make it to the to the you know make it to the playoffs you know what I mean so and then obvious going into this year this year seems to be back back in Action so I can't wait I got to put some money down on some Rams because I feel like going to surprise a lot of people starting with u g Detroit that is it I done we can find la ring Hood r
