College Football Week 1 Reactions & Recap | Notre Dame-Texas A&M, Georgia-Clemson, Miami-Florida

Intro yo welcome back in it's another episode of the point after college football show Jackson gr Cody Oaks and today we get to talk college football react to week one what we liked what we disliked recap all that was Cody's repping Oklahoma I'm repping Notre Dame big Cody happy Sunday what a Saturday was yesterday how are you feeling after a first week of college football first full week of college football you know you always love to see it what a great slate of games we had Clems and Georgia we had Notre Dame A&M we had Miami vers Florida we had Penn State West Virginia we had some of the big boys struggling against some little teams some crazy performances man can't wait to break it all down man yeah me too man it was one of those things and yesterday sat in my apartment all day um those who watch on Instagram or whatever drank about 10 beers just chilled here watched college football had nothing to do eight games on at a time that's Peak manhood that's Peak life in my opinion like hey call me what call me what it is say what you want to say about it judge me all you want I dude it this felt like the longest offseason ever and that's what I've I've been wanting to do and to be able to text you during a college football Saturday dude it was it was perfect it could not have G any better absolutely man like like I actually ended up having to coach a game at around 4M Pacific time which was when the Notre Dame and uh T&M game kicked off so I was like I'm like looking like I'm we're winning the game 40 to nothing I'm looking at my watch like okay I got to get home and watch the end of this game I got to get home and watch the end of this game so no man super fun times super fun let's just get right into it first game we're talking about Cody just mentioned seven Notre Dame beats 20 7 Notre Dame BEATS 20 Texas A&M 23-13 Texas A&M 23 to13 college game day was there it was the game of the week um the outside noise had Notre Dame as an underdog in this game and I don't mean to toot our own horns I'm going to go on a little rant real quick and then we'll break down about this Notre Texas A&M game for the last six months all I heard was oh it's a hostile environment Kyle Field is going to be tough too much for Notre Dame new quarterback new coordinator they're gonna have communication issues the offensive line the left tackle against Nick scorton oh can the defense hold up against Wagman people were praising Conor Wagman more than Riley Leonard and I guess deservingly so I mean he's talented but I think the the perception on the outside noise and for us we set on the point after that Notre Dame was going to win by 10 to 14 points that's what happened I love the way this Notre Dame team played um my my biggest take away first off F all the haters we're going to the college football playoff not her name we made it going to keep going what else whatever R Leonard for Heisman no no we actually I I'll continue on my points on that we we can't we have not secured a playoff yet not even close we have got to um we we can't get like we did in the last year's but I'm going to say my biggest first takeway we're just kind of go back and forth um my my biggest takeaway I mean we have to talk about this defense from Notre Dame I mean this defense from Notre Dame heading into the season we knew it was Elite I think the secondary gets a lot of Praise than deservingly so only allowing a 100 yards for Connor Wagman he looked confused in the pocket I think there's one thing for Notre Dame the last two years it's been like this when you're able to rush the passer with three to four guys and drop seven to eight especially in man coverage and you're able to get to the quarterback and you've got a bunch of coverage sacks or coverage throwaways from Conor Wagman that is Elite defense and there was some there were some holes to fill too obviously you got Benjamin Morrison on the the major the biggest Corner quarterback number one but Christian Gray I thought as the quarterback two played phenomenal he was getting highlighted in the beginning of the game as Colin Klein tried to go after him and to be honest A&M's only completions was because maybe Notre Dame's Corners were too aggressive to the football they kind of got loose other than that this secondary was on locks at Texas A&M's wide receiver CT which we mentioned the wide receiver cor from A&M was a little slow um something that you know they'll develop but I mean kudos to the defense I I mean a 100 yards passing three pass deflections um two interceptions I mean this this defense I mean from from top to bottom the depth on this team this defense kept him in the game and they they're the reason why Notre Dame won this football game yeah you know I think the biggest thing for me was recognizing not only the defense and the way they shut down um that offense from Texas A&M but for me and I think I was texting you um actually I know I texted you it was when they had to have it and they had to go down and score to take the lead Notre Dame put together just one of those drives that you just kind of felt that sense of just inevitability like it was just like okay we're if we get this first first down we're going to be rolling and I think Riley Leonard ran the football around the Left End on like a quarterback keeper to get the first first down of that drive and you could just feel the momentum starting to build and build and build and then it just felt like a back breaker when uh love the running back broke up the middle on that 21 yard touchdown run to kind of essentially put the nail in the coffin there it was it was pretty impressive to see um the biggest impression for me was how that offensive line performed um with all the three new starters and the true freshman starting a left tackle um being able to fend off the noise in cyle field I think that was super Rive especially on that last Drive tie game 13313 about 6 minutes left on the clock when they got the football um I think it was super impressive to watch that offense operate late in game when they had to have it in clutch moments I think a big thing too that last Drive no penalties no offensive line penalties and that's something I don't really overreact about seven offensive penalties four defensive line penalties I mean I think they had a pi that was kind of a 5051 officiating in general was back and forth and for Texas A&M fans that say oh we got hoes from officiating there were some calls in that game that you got appreciated by the referees that was a first down by Riley Leonard 100% that fourth and one that second effort was a first down and then on top of that a holding call when I think it was jeremi love maybe Bo Collins on a wide receiver screen let loose again it was a 50-50 call I didn't like that holding call there too but um don't mind the penalties offensively I think that's what you expect from 54 nap in his first game which I think he had one penalty other than that I thought he played well hostile environment Nick scorton wasn't a factor in this game at all no sacks from him I mean you have no sacks against the defensive line which I was I was shocked how good this defensive line from impressed I think people need to start to realize that this A&M team is going to make wreak havoc in the SEC this season on the defensive line because they were pretty damn good pretty damn good and not only that but elco's ability and they talked about it on college game on how his pressures are post Snap usually when you see movement and stuff like that it's pre- snap and then you and then you kind of have a read for it there were some instances where where people were going unblocked because the left tackle is like well am I going to either get the Left End that's coming or am I gon to get the inside guy that's coming who's coming who's leaving both of them came Riley Leonard got the ball out quick so I think this defensive line in this in the and to be honest it's one of those things where the offense of A&M wasn't getting better you can tell Notre Dame's offense was starting to click the running game wasn't there early which looking back on it 198 yards rushing which if you watch that game I'm like damn like I didn't realize we rushed for 200 yards because the whole entire game it was like I felt like we were rushing for maybe 40 yards in the first half maybe 100 yards total but you had some Breakaway runs with price and love but I mean I think that defense just kind of just I guess got tired towards the end I think Den Brock started to realize what he wanted to do offensively and you just felt like the momentum was starting to you just felt like Notre Dame was getting better throughout the game and and A&M couldn't get that explosive play to kind of get him over the edge absolutely I think I think there was definitely and just to kind of go back on your point I think we I even said it when we were doing the preview that Texas A&M a lot of people were like kind of make fun of Texas A&M because of all the guys that they lost in the transfer portal and like making fun of them like oh greatest Rec recruiting class ever but can't win a game guys this is the result of that greatest recruiting class of all time they're some of those guys are still there some of guys were still five stars when they came out and you're starting to see them develop like you said up front on that defensive line um coach Elco obviously a defensive-minded head coach so obviously his defense is going to be elite and play really really well I think you said it yourself I think it was just week one and they just ran out of GFF a little bit um and Notre Dame did a great job not abandoning the Run coach denrock just kept leaning on R and and he used Riley Leonard a lot in the Run scheme which I think was genius so it just adds a blocker into the scheme so that you don't have to worry about you know playing 10 on 10 on 11 um and for those you who don't understand what I'm talking about it's just when you run your quarterback a lot of times the quarterback hands the ball off and doesn't do anything so you have a one less blocker but when the quarterback's running the football now you add a blocker into the scheme and you allow more physicality up front so I think that that was genius by coach Dem Brock continuing to run the football even though I felt like they were kind of running into a brick wall um with that Texas A&M defense I think he recognized that they were getting tired and I think the fact that he was able to just keep hammering and stick to what what it is that Notre Dame did well which was run the football uh was a really great coaching job shout out to coach Freeman and obviously coach coach Den Brock yeah and I'll stand on this too the only thing I want to see from Den Brock is stretch the field vertically a little more I wanted to see him challenge it downfield but again I it's tough to watch on TV because you don't see what the safeties are doing so maybe they were deep in coverage and you didn't really see anything there and maybe he just said hey I want to stick to the running game hostile environment make my quarterback feel comfortable kind of Dink and dunk it but I think this wide receiver core um I still believe in them as one of the more underrated receiving cores I think they've got the ability to stretch the field Chris Mitchell only one catch 12 yards off of curl route Bo Collins had a great game that insane catch you mentioned on that last dri that insane catch where he probably should have been flagged for unfor should have been flagged is what it is my heart sank when he pushed him I said oh my gosh are you kidding me bro like on a great drive like that but another guy too he didn't even mention that didn't even get involved in the passing game is Mitchell Evans which I think was a benefit to den Brock saying you know sacrificing him for the Run game having him block which is what they needed and I also think something too that Den Brock did well was anytime you saw scorting on nap and it was a third and long you saw Jeremiah love you saw Mitchell Evans kind of help him a little bit not fully just kind of give him that little nudge on the outside but um I got a I mean a lot more points I want to get through real quick Riley Leonard let's just talk about him real quick you're the quar back expert I think the stat sheet people look at him and say you know he didn't play great he didn't he didn't really you know impact the game but when the game gets Tighter and the lights get brighter this guy performs and I think that's what you need from the from this Notre Dame team that's what they've been striving for is the guy that had the edge Sam Hartman had the edge sometimes had the big arm but his ability to run and extend plays make plays out of nothing bad snaps early from Riley from the center Riley letter picks it up finds Jaden great house you got a third and five like talk about what you saw from Riley Leonard his ability to extend plays and then what you kind of want to see from him more I guess as the season progresses yeah I think the biggest takeaway I had with Riley Leonard was it was clearly game one and and I say that in two in two different ways one in a good in the good way it was game one and so you people don't need to be worried if you're Notre Dame fan based on his statline it's game one it's on the road hostile SEC environment probably one of the top five environments in college football to play in um so loud and and him being able to do that on the road I think is more of a feather in his cap as opposed to a knock on him and two it's his first game I get it missing some throws not really pushing the ball down the field however like I we kind of kicked off The Show by saying when he had to have it when he had to have a big time Drive Riley Leonard not only did they put the ball in his hands to run the football but he did make that big throw down the field to Bo Collins who made that ridiculous catch down the Notre Dame sideline um I think that there were throws that he had like when he had to make them he made them um obviously there were a couple near misses early in the game and again that just comes with timing and repetition in game likee situations um I I don't think as a Notre Dame fan anyone should be worried I think he's right in line with exactly what we thought he was going to be he's going to be a very very good quarterback for Notre Dame lots of good weapons on the outside a good running game better than advertised I think offensive line I I thought the offensive line was going to struggle even more especially as cuz normally like as the fourth quarter rolls the crowd gets more hype the defensive line kind of gets a little bit more fire uh I thought the offensive line actually kind of flipped that script and they kind of got a little bit more rolling and I think that helped Riley Leonard kind of get a little bit more comfortable not only in the pocket but also running the football late in that football game that's a good point you made too I I I I'm glad you saw that too because it felt like Notre Dame was getting faster as the game was going on yeah like their motor and their conditioning they did in the summer and a lot of them you got to give them credit too Notre Dame didn't have a lot of guys leave I mean I guess wide receiver they left but they replace him with portal guys but especially on the defensive side they return a ton of guys um this game and Marcus Freeman mentioned in the presser reminded me and he said it too a lot about Duke last year at Duke kind of one of those gritty games um really bad third down efficiency I mean two of 12 in this game but you found a way to make plays when you needed to most the third and Longs that Riley Leonard extended plays but um yeah I mean this team was gritty this team had a lot of motor in them and Marcus Freeman this dude I mean for them make this higher a couple years ago looking back on it to stay in the program and be a defensive minded head coach this guy's got fire in his gut you could tell he he he he trusts his players and I think that's one thing that for week one that these that this Notre Dame team can kind of you know I guess let let up let their head high on because I mean if your coach trusts you on fourth down consistently for your kicker to ice the game like that put it away on 46 47 yard field goal I mean if he misses that A&M has great field position one 115 left up seven you never know what happens with them so um what you see from Marcus Freeman hell of a guy former player so much energy so much fire for his team and on top of that he's a players coach too which I appreciate absolutely I think I think the biggest thing that I took away from coach Freeman was like I think like you said the trust in Riley Leonard in that offense to get the tough yards when needed and then also just the intricate scheme sches and the blitz packages and the covered shells that he was putting out there to confuse Conor Wagman I think it was absolutely genius um this Notre Dame defense is for real and I think it's a big coach Freeman is a big reason why so um Notre Dame I think you guys passed your first big test um I think Louisville and then USC are your next two ones that I think you need to really worry about um but other than that I think Notre Dame is set up and primed and ready uh obviously they don't have a conference Championship that they have to play in I think that's going to help them uh down the road some people might say it might hurt them because it's not that 13th data point but I think it's going to help them because I don't think they have to play an additional like good team later in the season so I think that Notre Dame is set up primed and ready for a good run at that cfp that's one thing too I think this might be the most physical game that they play in right all all season until maybe Georgia Tech like you mentioned or or Louisville who looked impressive which we'll get on to the other stuff but U my last thing about uh Notre name and then we can kind of flip the script um and talk about A&M a little bit to two things one when audri EST left you kind of wondered about the running game I thought J I thought jaran price and even Jeremiah Love Like Jeremiah Love added a little weight from last year um both of their abilities to run through tackles and be patient in the holes and accelerate through them huge I'm really excited to see that do moving forward and then lastly you mentioned the college football playoff I think for Notre Dame just kind of take it week by week for them now that this this this was the game of the year for him there I don't see an opportunity which if they fall short if they lose a game I can see them go down but they're pretty much set in the top 10 for the rest of the season like if they can just kind of just stay forward win football games um this this team will make the college football playoff and I'm looking forward to it and hopefully they can just take it week by week including Northern Illinois next week I don't think you got to sleep on any of these opponents personally like we we just we'll talk about it later Oregon barely beating Idaho like those are T like anything can happen in college football so I think for them stay focused but I love this team I love the way they play and um this team just has so much Grant and I think that's what you wanted to see the last couple years from Notre Dame absolutely I think this was one of those statement games and I think if if Notre Dame does make the college football playoff we're going to look back to week one when they beat A&M on the road by 10 like that's going to be that's going to be one of those data points that the committee looks at let's let's say Notre Dame's 11- one and they're going up against another 11-1 team for an at llarge bid the committee is going to go back and look at week one at A&M what did they do they won by double digits on the road at a sec school so I think that's going to definitely help them in the long run for Texas S&M I think the future is bright I think what you're seeing now with Miami and it took him a while maybe two to three years now they're now Mario crisal has the team that he envisioned I find that same way with Elco I think they're a great well coached team I like Colin Klein I think Conor Wagman's gonna bounce back they got a lot of injuries at the running back and wide receiver position too um their defense played well it's just a really tough opponent Notre name I just felt like all the struggles that people thought Notre Dame was going to have offensively is what a them had offensively what what stood out to you I'm real interested and curious what you saw from Conor Wagman Colin Klein and the offense and even on the defensive side from Texas A&M yeah I think I think it's kind of similar to what I was saying earlier they they've recruited really really well I think Texas A&M is one of those sleeping giant programs that they're a quarterback away similar to how um some people might think uh a Notre Dame was maybe the last few years like oh we're like we just we just need our quarterback to be good and we're going to be great because we've recruited so well around him and I think Texas A&M is kind of along the same lines I mean if you look at um some of the big time names that they have on their on their team obviously one of the headliners of this last recruiting cycle Evan or two recruiting Cycles ago was Evan Stewart the wide receiver number one um absolute baller super good athlete on the outside at receiver and when you have guys like that that are still in the program that stuck around during the regime change I think that's going to bode well for this group moving forward and I think again I and I've said it multiple times and you know some people might be like you know like you keep hammering this point but they had arguably the greatest recruiting class of all time a couple years ago and people like I said people made fun of them for it because they didn't win anything but understand some of those guys are going into their now third season and it's going to start showing itself and I think it started to show itself last night like you said with that defensive line and the way that they play it against a very physical Notre Dame football team haven't even seen Ruben Owens too so I'm looking forward I know when he gets healthy I think he'll be a dynamic running back too but I mean I think sky's the limit for A&M tough schedule moving forward um I think they'll obviously make a bowl game they play MCN next week at Florida um you got you got Missouri at home LSU at home and then you got Texas at the end of the year so I think they're going to play teams tough that defensive line is definitely something I'd hang my head on if I'm an A&M fan but any last thoughts for you Notre name Texas A&M and then we'll move on to Clemson Georgia no no I think like I said I think I think Texas A&M is going to be a little bit better than people thought this year and I think that Notre Dame is going to be a little bit better than people thought as well and I think that Notre Dame um this is going to be one of those moments that they kind of look back on throughout the year and say like yeah like and kind of draw Confidence from the fact that they went on the road to that SEC school um at cyfield and got the job done by double digits I think they should definitely draw some confidence from that last thing I'll say we called it on the podcast everyone hating on Notre name I this is gonna be a recurring theme in this episode because I mean I'll say it I don't care this podcast is one of the this podcast is the most underrated podcast for college football and if you're not listening to us keep listening to us throughout the season if one you want to win money and two you want some insight and some correct Insight with some of these big-time analysts man I'm like dude are you kidding me like by the way every single person on college game day chose who to win that football game A&M and shout out to Lee Coro who also picked Vanderbilt to win outright against Virginia Tech and he picked Notre name so we'll get into col G shout out to Le still got Le knows Lee knows ball still Lee knows ball still um speaking of ball and a team that knows plenty of ball um one Georgia kicks the 1 Georgia BEATS 14 Clemson 34-3 [ __ ] out of 14 Clemson 343 I'll give it to you first takeaway go BR you hold on your text to me I got to bring it up first was hilarious you just go Um broh Georgia and the Death Star they're so good LMAO Georgia is the new Death Star it was Alabama now it's Georgia like what they like I don't think people and I don't think I even realized how good Georgia's defense was gonna be and I get that like maybe Clemson isn't like the best offense but like it really felt like Varsity versus JV like it literally felt like big brother versus little brother little brother played with emotion at the beginning played hard it was close and then it was not very very quickly like and the way Georgia did it which is why like which is why it was kind of why I sent you that text message it was just like it was like I'm trying to compare it to something but like when someone just like is throwing hay maker after haym maker after Haymaker you're like okay they can't do it again oh oh they can't do it again oh like and they just kept just pounding Clemson and it's almost like Clemson was like able to stick with him for like a half and then Georgia was like we're going to be able to keep going what about you and it just it just showed their depth um georg's defense just boa constricted Clemson the whole game um some of you guys who follow us on social media saw like I said to like a friend of mine a week ago I said look I don't think Clemson's going to score more than seven points take the under sure enough they only scor three and it's it was just I don't think there's enough superlatives that we can say regarding the way Georgia absolutely deboed Clemson was not a bad is not a bad team they were ranked 14th in the country going into this game I was going to say that too like Clemson's defense I was in the first half I'm like okay this def can hang with them super impressive people don't realize to that offensive line from Georgia came back from last year that the D line looked great thought the secondary looked great too they made a lot of great plays and some of those throws that Carson Beck had some in the first half but more importantly in the second half too on those third Downs tight coverage tight coverage any other quarterback in the country you have a cade kumnick throwing against that coverage it's probably an interception or or it's deflected but um I was real impressed by Clemson's defense I think they just kind of ran out of steam towards the end you've got to if you're Clemson the way Georgia started that game a lot of offensive penalties um Clemson was getting the qu back you've got to capitalize and you got to take shot plays and you got to be able to have Georgia pin their ears back and at least Panic for a little bit because they only scored six points in the first half with Georgia and for Clemson they had opportunities um and they just couldn't capitalize and I think part of that has to do with we talked about it the inexperience a wide receiver on the outside these young wide receivers which Antonio Williams made some great plays Randall made some good plays Turner made some good plays but you had two penalties on one drive from Randall that cost which they had one of the more explosive plays um of the game I think they were in Georgia territory and you had a legal formation on Third and like five and then let him back to Third and 18 third and 12 and they weren't able to get it and then Cole Turner you have a vertical route you're quitting on it Midway when Kate kck's looking to throw it to you which may have been open who knows and you're going to quit halfway through the route it's like those little things for me and you could say well you know it's the first game it's inexperience like young wide receivers whatever dbo chose this he chose this he chose not to go to the trans portal and I don't say do go be a Dion and get 4020 players but you're telling me as Clemson with the nil Collective Big Brand you've got a cade kumnick who we'll get into in a minute game manager like dju crazy how those two former Clemson quarterbacks in the same realm maybe it's just a recruiting perspective from dbo but I also think too it's Kade kumnick but he doesn't have any guys to throw the ball to you're telling me you can't find one transfer wide receiver that you can go in and grab to to transform your program that's one of the things too it's like quarterbacks in the transfer portal are valuable but man that wide receiver value and we'll get into the wide receiver performances this weekend my God like that's got to be the number two thing like if you don't have a quarterback go get a quarterback if you don't have a wide receiver go pay that wide receiver number one talk to me what you talk to me what you saw from Clemson's offense and kind of break down Kate kumnick real quick yeah I think I think Kade kumnick and what's crazy is that every week we kind of text about quarterback play and I'm just kind of like like we talked about in week zero I said why are people flaming dju dju did exactly what DJ's been doing his whole career like he's a manager he makes a couple good throws a game like he's not g to lose you the game but he's not gonna go win you the game and I think I think Kate kinnick came into Clemson with all this Pomp and Circumstance everybody's like oh yeah Trevor Lawrence II it's like no guys like and he's never sh the thing is is the three this is year three for him year two with Garrett Riley as his OC you think there'd be a little bit of a jump and I understand we're going up against Georgia I get that but there needs to be something that you can point to that says okay this looks like year two this looks like there's been some improvement and there just hasn't been and yes do I think that Aaron Williams great player Bryant Wesco Jr another guy that we picked to be the Freshman of the year in the ACC I think he's going to be a great player but when you start the year off going against that defense you essentially have to play Perfect to even be in the game because on the other side your defense has to play damn near perfect in order to keep their offense out of the end zone um Georgia obviously showed their depth getting to like their third string running back with obviously Trevor etn not being able to play and being suspended for the game um I think his last what was the running back's last name King for uh Clemson or forg for Georgia oh no it's um Haynes or FR Fraser Fraser Fraser Fraser Fraser Nate Fraser yeah Nate Fraser so Nate Frasier true freshman comes out of nowhere goes off in this game right you can't predict that obviously it was most most of his yards were in the second half uh as Clemson was kind of getting worn down but man I think sorry that's a little bit of like a tangent but I'm just saying like when you're like Kade cnick and that receiving core I think you guys are going to be fine I just think think that Georgia it just showed how good Georgia was not necessarily how bad Clemson and those receivers are going to be however I do think that clemon does have a lot of things that they need to work on on that offensive side of the ball first half I'm looking at the offensive drives they averaged 18 yards per Drive in the first half five drives Clemson had that's where I think and I want your perspective as an offensive coordinator if it's a z00 game it's a gritty game you know the other teams way better than you and they can't get things clicking what type of plays what's your mindset as a play caller to get things clicking offensively because I mean Kate kumnick had that one corner route which was a dime by the way that throw by KCK like okay like Kate kumnick back let's get things rolling and it just felt like stagnant after that like why not go take another shot again why not maybe run a double move or maybe try to maybe a trick play like anything kind of spark that momentum to me like it's week one like it's Georgia like you've got to capitalize on moments like that when they can't get things rolling so play caller perspective Garrett Riley like like what goes in your mind when that situation happens I think for me I think I'm I'm of the I'm of the mindset of when I get a big play like that I like to go hurry up like I I will I will get my team back on the line of scrimmage either call another shot play or just a quick run play just to see if I can get people out of position or like after that big play um a lot of times after a big play sometimes like there's either a timeout they're if they're reviewing to see if there was a catch which I think I don't know if it's if that's what happened on that play that they reviewed to make sure it was a catch or not I think did I think they did review it so if there's a review like that to me that's when I dial up my trick play because during the review I can talk to my guys be like okay we're GNA run this double reverse pass Philly special whatever it might be um and I think that's when you can run those plays is after a big play there's a review so you essentially get a timeout and you can kind of have that off that conversation on the sideline I think it would have been a great opportunity for them to run double reverse pass double pass uh Philly specials something just to keep Georgia off balance and just keep Georgia from being able to just play downhill the way they did against that Clemson offensive line so um yeah I think as a play caller that's the kind of mentality I have um and that's kind of why myself and like my head coach kind of gel really really well um with the team that I coach is because when we get big plays we like to kind of smash the gas pedal and try to find ways to keep the defense off balance because a lot of times when you hit a defense with a big play there's a level of demoralization and you want to just keep that kind of train rolling M the last thing I'll say with Clemson is they were unable to run the football with Phil mafa 16 carries 59 yards that hurt him that hurt him only 47 rushing yards total um I think looking moving forward for Clemson then let's get into more Georgia and then we'll go on to the next game but um I think they're kind of in the same boat as fora State it's like both situations happened like both offenses were stagnant um quarterbacks were up and down wide receivers on the outside could not win running game was was looked effective in the beginning and then towards the game couldn't get going um I mean I I still think Clemson it's weird because they didn't play well but like they played better than I thought I guess they they played for the first half they played better I just think they quit in the second half and Georgia just manhandled him and Georgia just in the second half but um offensively worried defensively I I was impressed by them but um what are your closing thoughts I guess for Clemson and what do you want to see from them moving forward closing thoughts on Clemson gett Riley open up the Playbook big dog open up the Playbook teams are gonna expect you to ride Philip mafa a lot and not lean on Kate kumnick I think you should just trust Kade kumnick to not make the big mistake I realized he threw a couple picks one of those picks was a ridiculous play by the safety yeah that was that like you can't like you throw that ball a hundred times that probably happens once so you got to understand that like just don't get discouraged keep pushing the ball down the field you have great athletes on the outside and I think it's a great opportunity for them to you know show trust in not only G or in Kate kinnick but also Garrett Riley showing some love to these wide receivers we talked about the defense of Georgia and how much depth they have Georgia's got weapons on offense they have so many weapons on offense I mean Nate Fraser like you mentioned cash Jones a who's been a walk-on fouryear fiveyear guy who was set to go to New Mexico State Kirby Smart kind of persuaded him to come to ug been a special teams guy for a while this year he's not playing special teams his pass blocking was big kind of an undersized running back you mentioned Nate Frasier and they couldn't get the running game going early but towards the end he started clicking 11 carries 83 yards one touchdown 40 for his long it's going to be interesting to see though when they played Trevor etn because he suspended um Kirby Smart said that it's going to be more than one game which looking at the schedule some of the early games they don't have a that tough schedule but you wonder how long he'll kind of lean the discipline on him um and do that but um what stood out to you from them offensively I think it was the efficiency of Carson Beck I mean I think I think I want to say he was like 22 of 33 dude he's yaded now he's got a whole yaded sleeve he's tatted abely yeah yeah like he and he looked like he put on a little bit of weight you know what I mean I think I think that was like the biggest takeaway for me was just how efficient Carson Beck was and I know he was like that last year um and it was almost interesting because like I looked at like I was looking at it and I was like oh you know like he didn't really perform any like he didn't really do anything special um but when I look at his stat line 22 of 33 for like 260 yards two touchdowns zero picks and it's like if he like if he averaged that for the whole season that's 4500 or like 3500 3,800 yards and 40 touchdowns Heisman yeah yeah like and zero picks like you're gonna win the highman trophy so it's just I think it's just we've gotten so used to these crazy numbers from these quarterbacks which we'll get into later in the show when we talk about our top five quarterbacks but it's just like when you look at the performance of a Carson Beck to go along with the way they were able to run the football in the second half Georgia's the number one team in the country and it might not be close no disrespect Ohio State no disrespect Oregon no disrespect to Texas but Georgia is ridiculously good there so like like can I can I do a do over on my 12 team playoff bracket oh my go bro I'm watching this Georgia game and I'm like oh I haven't even seen Oregon yet I'm just watching Georgia and I'm like dude I I get fooled every year it's like yukong with basketball you think oh yukon's gonna have a down year they got a lot of new guys coming back and they just reproduce guys every single year because Kirby Smart's a genius and what he's got on that staff like they returned their offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator last year too I I think people don't realize that is they only lost I think their DB's coach who's Fran Brown I think his name is who's the new coach at Syracuse but other than that I mean London humph Vanderbilt transfer bald out I mean Aran Smith Dominic love it Dylan Bell I can go on and on and on this wide receiver cour out in space they can win a one-on-one on the outside they're vertically they're vertical threat downfield and a guy that didn't even get mentioned Oscar Dell and their other tight end they have YC from Stanford they didn't even get involved in the passing game they were more in the Run game blocking so it's just a testament to Kirby Smart The Testament to georg's program and for guys buying in again most of these guys they recruit but they're able to go pick and choose oh we're we're lacking def defensive line depth let's get some Talent Corners let's get some Talent wide receivers get some talent and for them to Jael this quickly it's a testament to Georgia and I am bro I it's I think it's Georgia right I guess it's I know it's week one it's Georgia and then it's a big ass Gap in everyone else yeah yeah I I literally put in my notes Georgia is the number one team in the country and it's not close and it sucks but it's it is what it is it is what it is it's a long season it doesn't suck because it's I mean it's great football we love watching college football but I think part of us is just like damn we want to see parody we want to see parody in the sport why is that not our broke why is that not Oklahoma or know it is yeah hey hold on now we'll talk about the Sooners later but hey we look kind of good oh hey last thoughts for you 343 big win for Georgia um what's your schedule like they play oh gosh Tennessee Tech at home and then they got a tough scretch I mean at Kentucky at Alabama Auburn Mississippi State Texas Florida Jord oh miss all that stuff yeah yeah you know I think I think realistically I think we need to start because I think people were kind of talking about Georgia like maybe losing like two games this year and it's like after what they just did in that game I think we really have to consider like when I think about the like I picked Texas to beat them in the SEC Championship I'm regretting that pick after one game and it's like when I think of like what Texas does good it's like huh they're good at throwing the football and then I look at what Georgia just did against Clemson and it's like are they going to be good enough to beat that like yeah I mean I think obviously the receivers and the running back are better from Texas versus Clemson I get what you mean I get what you mean it's just yeah it's just like I said when I think of like what it is that teams that they're going to be playing do well and then I look at what Georgia just put on the field as an as an example as like a sample size it's like oh God oh God our team's gonna even be able to score enough to beat Georgia Georgia might only have to average 17 points a game and could go undefeated that's so crazy to think about right that is so crazy to think about um you mentioned how you weren't confident about your Texas pick for the SEC but I think a pick that we're both confident on that we picked to win the ACC is the Miami Hurricanes big win for 19 Miami at 19 Miami BEATS Florida 41-17 Florida 41- 17 and they were highlighted by cam Ward 26 to 35 385 yards three touchdowns 33 yards rushing and uh I believe two guys on the podcast think we said Miami was gonna beat Florida win the ACC um I had cam Ward and Heisman contention but I think you had him as a Heisman winner the winner czy crazy we got to start out with we got we have to anytime there's a quarterback that has a highlight like this and that is the focal point in them winning the football game I got to throw it to you talk me CAM Ward what you see what' you like interception terrible but the dude bounced back the guy's locked in this guy he so much Aura Aura is the new popular word that the kids now this dude has infinite Aura after that game yeah I think first of all cam W thank you so much for proving us right appreciate it that was great that was absolutely great um and for dominating Florida the Florida Gators in what we call now canesville not Gainesville it's canesville thank you social media for that one love that um you said it yourself 26 to 35 385 yards three touchdowns the interception that he threw I was very irritated when he threw it like I literally was like watching it and yelled and my kids came in and checked on me like is everything okay Dad it's like no get out but other than that I thought that he showed exactly what it is that we thought he's an experienced quarterback who's played a ton of football at the highest level and now you put better athletes around him with a better defense a better scheme cam Ward is about to have a ridiculous season in the ACC especially because there's not going to be a ton of defenses that are as good as Florida's and he just carved them up for 385 yards and three touchdowns so and like the pick that he threw was just it was not uh because you know sometimes people talk about like oh it was great coverage he missed an open receiver and there was a safety lurking behind it that just like late late across the middle too right like it like it wasn't a great play by the defender like and that's not a shot it's just you made the play when it came your way it's just cam Ward other than that throw was lights out I think he might have had the throw of the day like no disrespect to Cate kumnick but when he rolled to his left and threw a ball like 40 yards into the back of the end zone to the receiver coming across the back of the end zone for the toe tap that throw was ridiculous and like it was almost like that like when you look at like early heis you know people always talking hyperb early Heisman moments like that to me was cam Ward's early Heisman moment might look back and be a part of his highlight package when he's in New York for the heis and trophy celebration yeah and I think people should not downplay this as a big as as people should not downplay this win for Miami tough environment Florida's Got Talent it's just they're not well coached which we'll get into in a bit they've got four or five stars they've recruited well in the sport for a while but for cam War to go in there the Swagger he had the The Moxy he had I mean the little jog out of bounds like he was jogging from like eight yards out of bounds kind of looking at people like dude that stuff which I'm sure got you fired that stuff gets me so fired up I'm like oh my gosh the Miami swag the Miami Moxy the late hits like number 41 comes unblocked the defensive end from Miami and bats the pass it kind of shoves CR Merz and then runs after the ball in the end zone like this team has motor just like Notre Dame it felt like the speed they never went down in speed they never got tired for Miami and I think that's kudos to Mario chrisal ball that's kudos to Aaron Feld their weight weight training they've got one of the best weight training conditioning staffs and say what you want to say about Mario crystal ball when it comes to game managing I kind I think he kind of took a step back and said hey I want to let my OC's I want to let my quarterback I want to let my defense do the work and I'm just going to sit back and just kind of observe which to be honest that's what he's good at but I think he's also good with the culture and building a program my second thing is for people out there saying um cam Ward like oh my God 385 yards three touchdowns like dude he's been doing that at Wazoo for the last three years and that's one thing too I think that's great about the transfer portal is you're able to get guys in lower markets which by the way he played in the Pack 12 too people were like oh he's it's a loud environment in the swamp like dude he played at Aon Stadium played at Washington every year like dude's been playing in in hostile environments but you're right it's been poor Talent now you get great talent now you've got a great running back do it with Fletcher and Martinez like I think the sky's the limit transition well going from the Pack 12 to the SEC like I just I I think people underestimate like like oh wazo like people just think in their minds like wazu is an undervalued program like they're kind of like a group of five team like talent wise maybe but dude played against some of the best talent in the country especially last year in the Pack 12 he balled out you Wonder Wu like had that pluke game in the mid season but cam Ward's been that guy and I'm just happy that he's getting this opportunity to flourish and I mean if he continues to play like this like what top five pick first round pick next year he's gonna get drafted we know that what I will say too cool little fun fact cam Ward starting quarterback went to wazu meech Powell DB formerly of University of Washington had a big interception almost ran it back against Florida so a little wazu udub uh it'll be interesting to see maybe around the apple cup if maybe they take little wager on who's going to win uh in week three and just see if maybe they can like do like a little friendly wager between the two of them that's funny um I was going to say one more thing about cam Ward I totally forgot but um let's talk about these wide receivers that's one thing too that I mentioned was cam Ward's connections with these wide receivers it felt like they've been playing ball for four to five years and I think that's a testament to Xavier rbo um the leading wide receiver last year staying and jelling with Cam Ward I mean he looked phenomenal seven catches 12 yards one touchdown braxon baros 2.0 I mean this dude every time the ball thrown his way made some tough catches jacobe George had a touchdown too made some good catches too but you saw the wide receiver talent I was impressed the depth by them and then also going back a little bit there's a reason why people were going after cam ward in the transfer portal there's a reason why he was a number one quarterback and for him to bail out on the draft and for him to weigh out his options and go to Miami I mean shout out to him for doing that and shout out to him for you know boosting up his stock and I think these wide receivers are pretty damn happy to have him alongside I I just I this offense just to me against a a dline that had a lot of big guys I mean the Miami Miami is so back Miami is 100% back there's no doubt about it I wonder how Ohio State's feeling right now for not pursuing Ken Ward people texted me like oh yeah Will Howard I think Colin cow tweeted about it like oh yeah Will Howard's gonna be good dude it's akan it's akan like come on man like I don't know cam Ward will Howard let's just be very clear about this that was the most pressure of the Season like you lose that game a lot of pressure moving forward like Forida State looking at them for the rest of the season they're on pins and needles hostile environment of Florida like both both coaches know like I need this win like Mark like I need this win personally to propel the rest of the season and then you got freaking will Howard doing it against akan and people were praising will Howard it's like dude like you're at home and it's against akan like relax Rel no I think I think honestly like one of my biggest takeaways for the for the Gators is like guys like Graham Merz what are we doing man what are we doing hey you hey you called that too man you said I think DJ lagway is gonna slip his way in there and I was shocked they pulled him that late didn't you think that was a little late they should have pulled him ear like I feel like if you're gonna make that change maybe you wait till week two if you're gonna like if you're gonna do it that late I would rather just wait until week two to do the change um but I did as you said I said it in the in the preview episode I literally said DJ lague is gonna play and he's gonna play substantial minutes for this football team because I don't think that Graham Merz is that guy no disrespect again to Graham Merz it's just there's a reason why DJ lagway was the like the highest rated quarterback recruit to go to Florida in a while and he did it because if you think about it DJ lagway did it at some of the highest levels of high school football in the state of Texas he had ridiculous numbers and I'm not saying that High School translates to SEC what I am saying is is that he's played in big football games already so he's not going to be afraid of the moment he's not going to be nervous he's already going to be prepared to play against highlevel competition based on where he came from in high school and I think that kids coming into college are already going to be more prepared than they have been uh obviously with the seven on seven circuits camps that people can go to the the intense individual training that they get um it's just DJ lague is just simply better than Graham Merz right now and I think it's going to show I think part of that too the offensive line from Florida struggled during that game the defensive line from Miami obliterated them three sacks eight tackles for losses five pass deflections and two interceptions too but um I I think this Forida team look one of the it's going to be a brutal season again for Florida I mean you look at their schedule tough schedule home against A&M they got at Tennessee home against Georgia at Texas um LSU Old Miss and they've got fora State on the schedule too but more importantly um there was a there was a tweet that yeah dude isn't that a t that's so tough there's a tweet that came out um talking about Dan Mullen and talking about how Florida made a made a bad decision by firing him and pilling up Billy Napier and I kind of want to put these stats real quick um Dan Mullen first three years at Florida three consecutive New Year six games um they went 10 and three 11- two eight and four and then they went five- six and they booted him this is a guy that's been coaching head coaching since 2009 had veteran experience kind of a puzzling move there okay you go to Billy Napier okay well he uh his best season was 11 and3 12-1 at Louisiana Lafayette you Signum 67 5- seven 0 and one but more importantly Billy Napier stats against ranked teams against Frank ranked teams that finish ranked in the end of the season two- n Billy Napier and Florida has lock six consecutive games their last home game they won was October 7th 2023 and Florida is 1- 10 versus rival teams under Billy Napier so I ask you Cody how long until Billy Napier gets the snap we've been saying this guys on the hot seat for a while and if so hot take DJ lagway does he hit the portal because I mean I I I think this guy depending on what he loves out Florida depending on who they bring back in this could be one of the hottest names in the transfer portal if he does leave if Napier exits does Billy Napier play DJ lagway to save his job I don't know like you know I then that's that's one of the things right like does he play DJ lagway with the hopes that DJ lague can kind of inspire this group to play at a higher level than they have been playing over the last couple years so um no I think the seat is hotter than hot I think there in Gainesville or as we just said canesville and and uh I think that uh Billy Napier like better get a couple wins here in the next couple weeks or I wouldn't be surprised if we see a mid-season change interim type of situation kind of similar to what they've done in the past with other with other programs yeah they look super undisciplined and I think my last takea away from this Florida team is um prey it's gonna be a long season I just it sucks because it's such a great environment they have so many good home games this season so you wonder if they're going to show out regardless but um yeah it's only a matter of time until Billy apier leaves on the other side of things shout out to cam McCormack nine yard touchdown nyear senior he's like 26 years old and I think people are kind of trashing him I guess for being in college for that long but dude he had like four or five years consecutive when he was hurt season ending yeah season ending injury so I don't mind him and with the power of nil for him to be able to make money and still kind of live his dream and play college football I think it's all kudos to him and love seeing Cam mccormic and I love seeing uh Riley Williams get in the mix too a guy that we saw in high school play some tight end for Miami so love what I'm from Miami Dam Martinez wasn't a factor much I mean again didn't running game when the passing game's there throw the dam ball over the yard 65 rushing yards I do expect them to have a Breakout game soon but um closing thoughts Miami Florida and then we'll move on to Penn State West Virginia yeah I think Miami like you said is is back I think Miami is set up to have a great run in the ACC and I think that Florida unfortunately strap in it's going to be one of those tough Seasons the Penn State Nittany Lions go into West Virginia go into Morgantown 8 Penn State BEATS West Virginia 34-12 win 34-2 and um the MVP their offensive coordinator Andy ketki um you want to talk about the hire of the Year hire to save your job if you're James Franklin this dude transformed Kansas's offense they were 106 in the country and pass offense last two years six and Six Penn State play calling Drew all looked comfortable their ability to get the football everywhere to all their weapons we've been preaching for them to get Singleton and KRON Allen involved in the passing game I mean talk about what you saw from Drew Aller talk about again what you saw from Annie ketki I think I said his name right koni um 11 to 17 216 yards three touchdowns a quarterback that we've been waiting to see with a big arm it's been not hasn't been a talent issue for Penn State it's been the scheme issue and with Drew Al continues to throw the ball with confidence like this I mean Penn State look out for them to I think contend for the Big 10 after that defense talk about what you saw yeah you know I think that's a great question uh ja the biggest thing that I saw from from Drew Aller and these receivers was finally Andrew cck colon Nikki is actually opening up the downfield passing game that we kind of haven't seen the last couple years with Drew Aller under Center I think it's it's finally kind of starting to click that like hey when you have these athletes outside and you have the play action ability because you have Nick Singleton and Kon Allen in the back field a good offensive line and a defense that it let's say you do throw a pick down the field because we're trying stretch the field that defense is going to be able to rise up and hold teams to enough to where you'll be able to come back and score points later on um I think that's that's the biggest takeaway for me from Drew Aller and these wide receivers is just finally being able to stretch the field uh vertically um and really start to threaten team down the field and I think now when you add in the fact that they also have Nick Singleton and Kon Allen in the backfield to go along with now this vertical passing game uh man Penn State definitely looks scary being able to go on the road to town and get that big win against West Virginia I I just love their ability to get it out to multiple guys the tempo they were running with too the amount of shift like they had dude they had one shift early in the game they had an offensive guard offensive tackle in the slot and motioned him across and cracked the end and they ran like I think like an inside zone or something like that like the creativity from him is absolutely insane love seeing j with the confidence this is the guy that we we said has a lot of pressure on him this season he's a guy that had a lot of you know I guess slack on him from last year year a lot of hate on what he did last year the dude just been grinding dude was grinding in the Playbook um he looked great in the pocket and especially throwing it downfield to Harrison Wallace I third hello welcome to the program sir was not was not did not know about your game until this game five catches 117 yards two touchdowns Mari Evans also had 55 yards on two catches like a lot of explosive plays from this game and that's something that we've lacked from Penn State we wanted to see from the last couple years they were able to do it k TR Allen wasn't even involved much in the running game because the guy Nichol sing Nicholas Singleton was on fire with 114 yards and one touchdown but the offens the line looked good everything was clicking offensively even when they had a fumble um that defense was able to get a fumble back against West Virginia Which that was one thing that West Virginia was just slacking on was um they didn't have any weapons on the outside and more importantly Derek green could not run 10 carries five yards that's like that is like the focal point of their offense is getting him in the running game he mentioned on the pat m show how looks up to Baker Mayfield and Johnny Manzel but Penn State defensively and Tim Allen their ability to contain Garrett green the unselfish plays that they made in the interior you know I Abdul Carter had two two guys on him like every single play double team to get his other guys open and then the secondary from um Penn State was just phenomenal but you look at this Penn State team my perspectives changed on him I mean off I mean I was just I was really impressed from this Penn State team very impressed and also probably the sound bite of the year not sure if you heard it but very hilarious not going to repeat what he said on the show but it was very funny look it up it's I'm sure it's on social media I'm sure it's going to probably be a meme but probably one of the funnier sound bites from a Penn State DB uh in that football game look it up if you had had a chance to listen to it I didn't see it you gotta I I would love to be able to repeat it on this show but you know I just want to make sure you know we got kids watching I'm not trying to not trying to be respectful that's smart that's a veteran go look it up it was very funny uh you guys will understand why I can't say it on air but um no I thought one of the impressive pieces was that was that Penn State Defense I mean it was almost like every single pass play uh from Garrett green was a contested catch if it was caught or if it was knocked down the secondary played well Abdul Carter didn't have as much of an impact um in this game in terms of stats but um obviously it was felt in in other ways with the fact that he was getting double team they were sliding protections to him and things like that so uh Penn State looking like a full football team this year um and I know some people were kind of like yo calm down it's not like they played against Ohio State West Virginia is a good football team and they went on the road to Morgantown that's pretty impressive yeah pretty impressive and they had the big weather delay too so you never know West Virginia might come out hot after that but Penn State to kind of stay poised um stay levelheaded and come out on top 34 to 12 my last take on Penn State um that drive they had before the half three plays 81 yards I think they didn't even use a timeout ridiculous don't know what West Virginia was doing on defense not prevent there maybe a bust of coverage but um Rin press James Franklin's probably on his hands and knees thanking God thanking Ken Ken kinsky kineski Cal Niki I'll get it I'll get it right eventually praising him the offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator but Penn State I think they've got a real shot to win the Big 10 after what I saw from this game you're right tough environment for West Virginia we'll see how they play out during the season we'll see if they're a reliable contender in the Big 12 or if they're going to be a five and six team but all in all big win for Penn State any closing thoughts for you and then we'll kind of just go over some of our other takes um from week one yeah uh Hey Michigan Ohio State be afraid be very very afraid of that yeah I mean Oregon I don't think they play in the regular season but like they don't play Michigan either but Ohio State they do at Penn State yeah yeah so Michigan wake up because we saw you against Fresno State and we'll get into that in a second but Ohio State wake up we saw you against akan I get it you guys figured it out but you guys better not start like that against Penn State that's all I'll tell you agreed Penn State Big Win um they got a home game I'm sure they're playing some FCS team some terrible team and they'll run up the score and Drew all will also continue to add his statline but um let's kind of go through other Other Week 1 Takeaways the week one takeaways real quick some things that stood out to us that we want to mention on the show um rip Ferman rip Western Kentucky very sorry very well sorry so sorry for that um Ryan Williams said I'm going to catch it on your ass every single play uh sorry about you too Temple oh my gosh yeah Temple was brutal too um my my first I guess takeaway um from week one that that really stood out to me that I was impressive um I'm gonna Texas Offense Looked Sharp say was Texas I thought Texas offensively looked good um I thought jayen blue coming into a bigger role he played well um the running backs that they had to be able to rush for 190 yards I get qu ERS throw a pick through a pick but I think the connection with Quinn yers and Isaiah bond is evident looking forward to seeing that build throughout the season and I think some other guys too you know jonte cook Matthew golden Silas Balden all stepped up in ways too and then defensively they were able to make turnovers and kind of they didn't really have any sacks which I'm not really overreacting about um I think they kind of just forced pressure and made colado State looked uncomfortable but I was really impressed from what I saw from Texas week one and we'll see if they can continue that I get Michigan you know they're quarterback situations weird but still their defense is one of the best defenses in the country absolutely uh one of my some of my kind of quick Oklahoma’s Defense Stood Out hitters the Oklahoma Sooners on the on the defensive side of the ball I mean as much as we know that they can put up points they scored 51 um but the biggest thing that it was for me was you gave up three points and you force six turnovers so you forced more turnovers than you gave up points which I think was super impressive um they were flying all over the field uh their secondary was making plays on the football uh their linebackers with Danny stutsman were playing absolutely out of out of this world their front their front four were able to get pressure without having to Blitz um it just felt very much like a Brent venol Mark Stoops Mike Stoops type of Defense um of the old OU back when they were like in the early 2000s when coach Stoops was there um and Brent venables was his uh DC uh before he left to Clemson so it was it was really fun to see um to me when oklah plays defense like this to go along with their explosive offense I think this game really kind of showed their potential to be able to put together a full football game um and also Michael Hawkins Jr the backup quarterback for U wow Dynamic Athlete very fun to watch one to keep an eye on possibly in the transfer portal if Jackson Arnold doesn't leave um or you know if hopefully he doesn't leave especially because there's a team down south that's probably going to be losing their starting quarterback and really hate to see a Michael Hawkins Jr who is from Texas be wearing burnt orange in the near future oo that's interesting yeah that'd be Oklahoma State I think that's what you hinted at there Texas they can't go to Texas don't let them go toas they got AR they got Arch Manning they won't go to Texas I don't think AR hey I know they do but hey hey Arch's Arch's touchdown pass was kind of nice though he was he was we'll get tip of the cap tip of the cap tip of the cap said tip of the cap tip of the cap what's something else you saw from week one yeah yeah yeah I'm gonna go Oklahoma State against South Dakota State I was Oklahoma State Avoids FCS Upset impressed by him I thought Alan Bowman played well 25 of 34 267 yards three touchdowns Ali Gordon's Ali Gordon punishment was 27 carries 104 yards two touchdowns for his DUI he had so shout out to him for going through that grilling punishment but look this is South Dakota State team that's probably gonna win the FCS them are Montana um and it was kind of an upset alert we we talked about it on the episode last week um and they played well they did everything they needed to Alan Bowman was interception free and I was impressed by this Oklahoma State team and their defense was flying around too and a big win to start the season yeah those 20 returning starters definitely kind of showed up and kind of allowed them to kind of you know weather the storm against a very good and game South Dakota State team now I'll say this South Dakota State team last year against this team I think would have been a way more competitive team more competitive game they lost a ton of talent Isaiah Davis their leading rusher the two wide receivers yeah but I I mean for what was going on there I thought South Dakota state to put up 20 is pretty impressive but yeah Oklahoma State that's another takeaway for me you yeah I think I think Travis Hunter is Ridiculous one of the takeaways for me another one was uh Travis Hunter you're ridiculous yeah you're AB let's let's get talk about Colorado that was a Thursday game let's get that 124 snaps and remember guys he's doing this at altitude a lot of you people don't truly understand what it's like to play a football game or just literally just walk around at altitude if you are let's call us sea dwellers that live down here at sea level and you were to go up to Colorado which is a mile so over 5,000 feet elevation and you were just to walk around you're gonna be laded you're gonna be breathing kind of heavy because the air is literally thinner up there he's playing 124 snaps at that altitude of highle college football and dominating three receiving touchdowns over 100 yards receiving and probably one of the catches of the year on that back shoulder fade absolutely a generational Talent Travis Hunter tip of the cap to you sir absolute baller I agree I mean dude that mean that last catch he had was just insane I mean this dude I I I'll say it this dude's a wide receiver and we'll see if he can play quarterback two in the NFL but this dude's a wide receiver first and foremost I mean his one his his awareness where everyone's at on the field his his field awareness is crazy his fall tracking skills his speed um his hands everything like that I mean this dude when you need to play most he provides and I I saw that clip too where Colorado Beats NDSU 31-26 he kind of dropped the back shoulder ball and um shador was yelling at him well he's like dude catch the fing catch the next one he made that ridiculous catch was was kind of a bad throw and which won them the game too because if they kick the field goal NDSU drives down there they go to OT but my takea away from Colorado in general is it's a good win you avoided an upset there's still a lot of problems with this football team especially on the offensive line I get no sacks my go shador was running for his life and took some huge hits after throwing the football too and then on top of that I think the running game from NDSU was is down this year they usually have a good running game which they rush for 157 yards but they don't really have that dominant running back like they used to have um look out for teams to run the ball down Colorado's throat once again and then on the other side of things the D line from Nebraska is going to bully this offensive line and I just think when teams figure out Colorado and they figure out Travis Hunter Jimmy horn had a good game too can he step up in those moments which some of those catches were were busted coverages or they're running cover two and you're running a middle vert and he was wide ass open but Colorado impressed not a hater of Colorado I'm just a realist they're overhyped a little bit because of Dion and all these players but if you're a two-player team I just don't know how long that can carry For You especially in a physical Big 12 yeah I think also like Shiloh Sanders got a little bit exposed by Tre Lance's little brother by the way um so uh taking a couple unnecessary penalties um being almost a little bit out of control I know people were like excited about him coming out of the spring because he was like laying hat on his own teammates and stuff like that but that over aggressiveness is g to kind of get him in trouble and I know that he was getting Flags last year and in week one nothing different so hopefully Shiloh can figure that out you got to be able to run the football 59 rushing yards for Colorado not enough just want to mention that real quick um lastly I got maybe a couple more that we want to talk about um let's dive into this Michigan quarterback room real quick heading into the game it was Michigan QB Room vs Fresno State announced that Alex orgy was not going to start for them um I for it's Davis Warren I think his name is former walkon came in um struggled early against Fresno State where do you sit on the quarterback competition here because I I see as Davis Warren maybe a more accurate passer but they didn't really throw the ball down the field and I don't think Michigan has to throw the ball down the field where Davis Warren's catch was a little in-breaking route to Coulson lovelin like Colson levelin do the rest like I think for them it's like one of those things where Alex orgy kind of gives them that running Advantage the running ability which they Pride themselves from running the football which Donovan Edwards could not run the football at all in the first half um shout out to Fresno State for stopping him but I think with the other element of Alex origy being able to run mix with the throwing ability if they do want to throw the ball I think it's one of those things you kind of say hey let's dig and dunk it and let couston Ln run after the catch or let's let Shan J Mo or Tyler Morris like some of those athletes kind of give you those yards after catch instead of throwing those deep balls but kind of talk to me what you saw from Michigan in the quarterback room is this an issue moving forward where do you sit on their quarterback situation I guess on this team after what you saw 30 to1 against Fresno State yeah I think um if I'm being honest it reminds me of a couple years ago when you had Kade mcamera and JJ McCarthy on the the same team very similar like JJ McCarthy in the was kind of in the Alex orgy role where it's like oh you're kind of a better athlete we're going to kind of run you a little bit in the Run game some quarterback keep some quarterback sweeps some quarterback counters and things like that and then maybe let you throw it a little bit and then we're going to have Cade Macar come in throw the ball uh short intermediate game um nothing really vertically down the field and we're going to run the ball and play defense and I think that um Chiron Moore was probably around for that and then he's gonna be he's he learned from Harbaugh in that same aspect and I think that they were able to win with that they went to the playoff a couple years ago I know that they ended up losing to TCU however um that's kind of like what the team kind of looked like um not only in the TCU year but even the year before that um when they ended up losing to Georgia um in the uh in the playoff so um I think that when M as Michigan kind of goes it so so goes their defense um and I think that that's one of the things that's going to be able to keep them in just about every single football game that they play but on the offensive side of the ball I think as long as they're not turning the football over and putting their defense in bad situations I think Michigan's gonna be just fine will Johnson and Mason Graham are ridiculous that will Johnson pick six0 had just read it all the way I think it was like a 90 yard pick six I the game there um I think those type of guys are going to keep Michigan relevant and I don't know we'll see again a big game against Texas next week we'll see how they far out my last takeaway will go to you for your last one or last couple um Arizona shout out to Brent Arizona WR Tetairoa McMillan is ABSURD Brennan and them pulling out a big win but more importantly this guy tedar Roa McMillan is absolutely absurd this guy I mean 10 catches 304 yards four touchdowns he averaged 30.4 yards a catch I mean I mean I'll stand on it I think this dude's the best wide receiver in all college football I get there's a a lot of great wide receivers but I mean the how tall he is the speed he has after the catch and I mean the separation after the football to be able to get away from Defenders and stuff I mean this dude's this dude's Elite man these wide receivers get better and better every year BR I like I was watching that game last night and it was like hold up did that just say it has 200 yards at halftime okay and then he just kept going like it was like and it was like okay they're throwing who are they throw like at one point they literally lined up with like seven offensive linemen a quarterback two running backs and tedar Ro McMillan was the only receiver on the field and it's like huh I wonder what they're gonna do here and he who they're gonna throw it to yeah yeah like like what like and New Mexico didn't adjust they're like oh I guess we're just gonna let him get his and we'll just not do anything about it like it's like what are they doing like so we're just going to let him go one-on-one arguably the best receiver in the country we're going to let him him go oneone against our clearly Superior DBS at New Mexico like anyway yeah Ted and McMillan friend of the program hats off sir you actually balled the F out 10 catches 304 yards four touchdowns could have been more there was one right after halftime where they doubled you and they threw it up to you and then there was another one later in the game where you could have easily had six touchdowns in this game which is unreal there was another one oh that he got stopped at the one yard line that would have been his fifth touchdown so like he could have even had maybe even more like how many how many yards is he going to get against Northern Arizona next week how long until they pull him out like I feel like they get him at like 200 then then call him out yeah like out at half time because we need to play Kansas State in two weeks yeah facts that that's the next game too lastly I'll say too I love seeing uh Arizona and Arizona state in the night cap because Arizona State Sam 11 them played well too but more importantly Arizona they're fun TV to watch T McMillan to see them on that Spotlight and not only that they roasted football for 205 yards four touchdowns too so the running game was there even though they lost Jonah Coleman who shout out to Jonah Coleman played phenomenal for Washington in his deut touchdowns too but my last thing I'll say on this then we'll go to your last takeaway watch out WATCH OUT for New Mexico QB Devon Dampier for New Mexico in the Mountain West I think they even though they had a tough loss against Montana State they played Arizona tough they got at Auburn next week which is going to be a tough game but I'm just saying look out for them in the Mountain West I think they're I think they're a good football team I really like like Devon dampier who had Ariz kid Arizona kid shout out to him know him as well but 15 carries 130 yards two touchdowns and he had 260 yards three touchdowns throwing the football to that's another guy again not wishing upon it New Mexico fans but don't be surprised even a couple years we we see his name flash in the portal and he ends up kind of like Diego PA paa from Vanderbilt that was at New Mexico state and goes to school and kind of boosts his name up there and plays for a power force school so absolutely Vanderbilt UPSETS Virginia Tech uh speaking of Diego pavilla uh huge huge win for Vandy over V I was I'm a little sad because I was pretty bullish on vek now they were down 17 nothing made the comeback actually ended up taking the lead at one point 27 to 20 um but uh Diego pavilla put the team on his back LED a touchdown Drive defense got the stop came down kicked the game-winning field goal to win it um absolutely impressive win by Vanderbilt and it and they actually sold out their home opener big big uh shout out to them obviously there was a lot of VCH fans in the building um but um being able to for Vandy to start the year off with a sellout um and to beat one of the ACC favorites I think that was that was a big win Kiren drones you showed out you showed up you showed out just not quite enough uh for VCH quarterback for VCH um but big win for Diego pavilla and Vanderbilt yeah Vanderbilt only allowing 75 rushing yards for V for VTech and only 19 for drones that was the biggest factor in this game but shout out to vanderbild great for the SEC for them to get a big win like this it only makes the SEC look better too and I'll mention sold out because half the stadium is under construction too so I guess they were sold out luckely for them half the stadium was in construction but great week one with that being said let's get into your top five quarterbacks from week one Cody a lot of quarterback Cody’s Top 5 Week 1 QB Performances performances ton of quarterback performances I don't know where you're going to go on this list which I'm looking forward to it but honorable mention sir honorable mention his former coach was offered a bottle of champagne by his current coach I'm gonna go with Kyle McCord from Syracuse 27 to 39 354 yards four touchdowns he did throw a pick against Ohio but the former Ohio State quarterback did ball out in his season opener shout out Hats Off K mcord great game you're our honorable man for week number one shout out to Kyle McCord you deserve more you deserve better all right number five at number five this game ended up turning out to be an absolute barn burner Texas Tech ended up winning it 52 to 51 but Baron Morton Texas Tech quarterback 30 for 42 378 yards five touchdowns as Texas Tech eeks out a 52 to 51 win over abalene Christian Baron Morton you are number five quarterback for week number one number four a number four a regular on the program he was a regular when he was at Jackson State he's been a regular since he's been at Colorado shador Sanders from Colorado 26 of 34 445 yards four touchdowns he threw that fluky interception that like hit off someone's leg at one point tipped up in the air picked off by a linebacker in the end zone against North Dort State uh big start to the season uh has a great receiving core around him um they're going to be much CV throughout the year depending on how what their defense is able to do number three now at number three I kind of struggled with this because I felt like the performance was pretty crazy in terms of completion percentage and yards and touchdowns but I had to look at who he did it against so I think we said it earlier in the program rip Ferman sorry that you had to go up against this guy Jackson Dart from all Miss 22 of 27 418 yards five touchdowns zero turnovers big game great start to the season for Jackson Dart big win for ol Miss 76 to zero over Ferman I can't wa to watch that offense against a sec opponent bro Juice Wells Trey Harris musv number two number two now this guy was a transfer played at TCU was actually the starter against Colorado last year and has since transferred to University of North Texas Chandler Morris of North Texas University 30 32 of 41 415 yards three touchdowns zero picks went crazy against universe South Alabama shout out to you Chandler Morris you are a number two performer for week number one see last year I said Chandler Morris is going to be my breakout player what I meant was the next year at North Texas needed to go down a little bit then he was going to break out yeah uh number one at number one Mr cam Ward going into the swamp into canesville as they call it now 26 to 35 385 yards three touchdowns the little fluky interception in the first quarter for me it was the competition and for and where he did it on the road against a Florida team that defensively usually plays pretty well um and going into the swamp is absolutely no joke so shout out to you Cam Ward you are a number one quarterback for week number one so you tricked me you said jayen milro was going to be at one when you texted me I did and then I had to come back and do a little bit more I just was seven for nine for 200 yards and two touchdowns and then or three touchdowns and then another 79 yards rushing and two touchdowns for Jaylen milro shout out to you just a little little little Shameless plug there you played really really well it's just seven for nine I can't put you at number one I feel you I feel you good top five there love that let's see I'm excited to see how these performances continue on throughout the season and who we gotta do a Leaderboard on who gets in your top five the most I think we're gonna start to do also shout out Devon dampier what you did against that Arizona defense was pretty impressive it's just when you get beat by 30 points it's kind of hard to put you up there so shout out to you you played really well I feel you um let's go buy or sell game balls and wrap up this Banger episode so great to talk Buy or Sell?! college football again um I'm buying the new college game day set love that love BUY: New College Gameday Cast it Nick Sabin and Pat magae have save the show you get a mix of Comedy you get a mix of football talk which is coming back in credibility with Nick Sabin who love watching him love hearing him talking X's and O's he's got a personality he gels well with the crew Kirk herb Street also phenomenal and and I love his personality and I love his relationship with both Nick Sabin the respect he has with him and Lee Cor in with Pat mcae Lee Coro not on the show a lot again this is a guy that's 90 years old guys he's 90 years old so for him to be on the show and for those who have watched the show the last couple years he had a stroke a couple years ago he's sounding a lot better he's sounding a lot better he's starting to get back to his true form I think with MAA there kind of balances the energy on the set too but more importantly less Desmond Howard because of Nick Sabin which I actually like because Desmond Howard just kind of says some outlandish stuff once in a while he's funny his laughs contagious but other than that big fan of college game day I didn't watch big noon kickoff before but now with this roster definitely not gonna watch any of it college game day Nick Sabin saved college game day I think Pat maery did too but Nick Sabin was kind of the icing on the cake that show was phenomenal and even Nick Sabin said after like I'm having so much fun and Pat magi's kind of hugging him with his shirt off and he's like I'm having so much fun I didn't know this so to see Nick Savin you know hopefully by the end of the season we'll kind of see him dance and kind of you know get out of his character because again it's just crazy like Nick sain harsh coach we've seen him the last couple years but what a treat for us what a treat for us football junkies yeah to see him the goat being able to be on TV and then for the NFL side seeing bill bellich but I'm buying this new college game day I loved it love that pick love that pick I'm gonna go with my buy or sell as I'm BUY: Notre Dame, Penn State, Oklahoma as CFP Contenders buying the following teams as real college football playoff contenders give me my wait wait wait actually because last year you said North Carolina I don't mean to put you on blast I did kidding I'm kidding that was that was our mid-season predictions that was our mid-season predictions fair enough all right who you got give me Notre Dame give me Oklahoma and I stress to say that and the reason why is because of the way they're defense played I know it's a small sample size but give me them wide receiver injuries still wide receiver injury concern or no no because Nick Anderson is gonna be coming back here pretty soon from injury so it's like you lose one to add one so that's that's my feeling cuz they already deep at the position so I think losing one but be able to gain one back I think you'll be just fine um to go along with their running game by the way uh Gavin Sawchuk and uh Mr Tatum number one running back in the class last year pretty pretty cool to see um Penn State another one absolute like I'm buying them and then my third one that I'm buying Notre Dame Notre Dame going on the road to Tex A&M absolute big time win winning by double digits on the road in the SEC is no joke hats off to you Notre Dame you to me are again those those three teams that I'm just kind of like really bullish on kind of going forward uh for the rest of the year I love that I love it all three of those it's going to be fun to watch them after week one and see if they can continue this momentum U my sell real quick I'm going to sell all the people out there who hate on the transfer portal I think the transfer portal is like the best SELL: Transfer Portal HATERS1:22:06 SELL: Cade Klubnik & Clemson thing to happen in college football it's like free agency it gives kids other opportunities now I think there's certain Kinks that they got to figure out like for example coming out today that um they may allow a fifth year of eligibility for all college athletes and then a red shirt that's stupid just do four years at college and do a red shirt five years is enough not six but to give opportunities like cam Ward to give opportunities like Diego pavilla and some of these transfer guys that really stood out in these power for conferences I'm all for it and for people hating the transfer portal you can SMD because I'm all for it I love it strong words I'm selling let's see what am I selling I oh I got one I'm selling Kade cnick and Clemson I'm sorry guys everyone was talking about how like oh it's gonna be Clemson it's gonna be Florida State it's gonna be Clemson it's gonna be Florida State no it's not it's going to be Miami okay so sorry Clemson I'm selling you as a viable ACC Championship Contender so sorry I just don't see it there's just no way that I could confidently say that Kate kumnick has made enough progress to be paired with that defense um and I don't think that defense is going to be able to hold up based on like what we saw in week one so let's say early who's your number two Who’s Second Best Team in ACC right now? team in the ACC just just based off week one based off week one B off week one NC State even though they struggled with Western Carolina but I think it's mind it I don't over I don't overreact about that either right they struggled but they won and I think it's like those FCS programs like kind of get like they try and come and clip you so it's like I'm not really tripping about that so I say NC State based on the way their defense can play and all that so I'm gonna say uh I'm gonna say Louisville I liked how Louisville played I get it was Austin PA but 62 points they looked efficient on offense I'm going them and then dude I mean ah Haynes King and Georgia Tech man two and baby two and two and0 big win against Georgia State at home but I don't know we'll see that'll be fun to watch to see who UNS up being that number two team and if Miami can continue their dominance and win the ACC but let's get some game balls Banger episode Cody I'm stoked it's been so I've been missing this I've been miss there's something I've been missing for the last couple months just be able to talk football with my guy my game ball GAME BALL: Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty goes out to Boise State running back Ashton Genty 20 carries 267 yards six touchdowns and carry would have been a scary win loss actually would have been a terrible loss for Boise State on the road at Georgia Southern Klay hton always you know he's going to have his team ready and play him tough but shout out to him for carrying his team I literally 20 carries 267 yards six touchdowns that's like 26.7 yards or 13 yards a carry I think or something like that so shout out to Ashton jenty the Heisman race continues and you win a big game on the road for Boise State out of boy out a boy big good pick tedo McMillan for me 10 cat 304 yards four GAME BALL: Arizona WR Tetairoa McMillan touchdowns could have been even more um Arizona big win at home in the white out against New Mexico give me tedar Ro McMillan for my game ball love it and Outro with that we End season 3 episode 6 58th episode what a week one it was um appreciate all the likes appreciate all the follows and subscriptions and stuff like that we're just getting started also too stay on the lookout USC LSU plays tonight we're recording this on Sunday we'll also react to that game as well that'll be on the YouTube and on Instagram and all that stuff so what a banger week closing thoughts any shout outs you want to have and then we'll look for week two preview later this week sure quick shout out Robert Carter Jr cornerback from Robert Morris with the craziest interception you will probably ever see if you haven't seen it go look it up probably the play of the Year even though it was only week one one-handed interception against Utah State Robert Carter junor cornerback from Robert Morris tip of the cap sir crazy play I like that last shout out for me nicoal ala looked great for Tennessee 34 yard three touchdowns imagine what they can do if he continues to play like that some are already saying he's the best quarterback in the country if he lives to his potential I love the way he's plays I love the way he plays looking forward to seeing Tennessee NC State in week two Colorado Nebraska week two Texas Michigan week two all that preview next episode for Cody Oaks I'm Jackson gr you listen to the point after college football show we'll see you talking week 2 preview next peace [Applause]
