'A BRILLIANT WIN!' - Crystal Palace 0-2 West Ham - REACTION | We Are West Ham Podcast

[Applause] compare that one to last season then that was the childish text message that I got sent by James Jones straight after West Ham got their first points of the season on the board Saturday afternoon with a two-nil win at cell Hurst Park against Crystal Palace 41% possession though for West Ham United so I assume James will be absolutely fuming with that given the under lopi compared to David Bo last season we were going to have uh be a new team uh and kick off a bright shiny new era the an absolute bucket full of long Balls by West Ham United as well but I'm sure James has got some uh some propaganda ready uh to twist those stats to suit his agenda James lovely to see you again excuse the rustling I'm just munching on a few wine gums um while we do the podcast very unprofessional I know um yeah 41% possession for West Ham on the weekend Crystal Palace hit the wood workor twice they were absolutely all over us um what's all that about oh we won a game three points um it was a very thoroughly professional per away performance in the Premier League under new manager Yul L you can't complain about it and it was good to see that the the strength and depth that lai's introduced this summer came to fruition R Baker Off the Bench for his debut um smashed it f CR comes on comes on uh on for Antonio wins more aerial duws than anyone else in the entire game and he's what 30 minutes on the pitch uh Edson Alvarez back from injury Shoring up the Midfield it and kilman turning into like Peak France Beckham at the back there like it was great Prime Lionel Messi yeah it was unbelievable uh I I just like to Hampshire irons who we gave a shout out to on last week's podcast um he was well Keen to go two footed on Twitter as well said are we comparing that to when we played them last season this week as well great win um yeah a little bit of a gang from you and Hampshire irons there um seriously though 41% possession do do you care about that Crystal Palace did at the post twice they were all over us uh before we scored in the first half he it was hit the bar um and then they also hit the post towards the end they had a couple of chances um I know sort of joking aside really and had a few comments um asking me if I'm planning on being just as smug this week uh as I was as I was last week um but I don't know I know I know we won the game and you know when I was saying that last season uh apparently then it wasn't about the result was about the performance not with you but you know generally that was the that was the shout uh and I do appreciate there's a balance between the two um but are you at all concerned by how open we we look at the back because again we said last week it was fair to say that Villa could have won 41 um with a couple of big chances we let them have it doesn't feel very sustainable would you say um you know keep opening up like that I think 2-1 two- nil Sorry probably flattered us I think that's probably Fair well I I think I think the key thing to remember is that um it's clearly not the long-term back four that L has in mind I think TBO will eventually come in for MOS who fair play to him had a good start to the season anyway I think he's been impressive uh and Waka will eventually replace suell um when raka came off the bench in the second half we looked we they they had far far less chances Palace so I think long term I don't think there's anything to be concerned about and you know at the end of the day even though we we gave them a few opportunities and the would work twice I don't think it's it's you know we still defended well I think you know I think all in but if you're going to compare the two performances don't forget that performance in CIS Park was only back in April and there was only two new signings in that 11 compared to the one that started the the game back in April um back then we were 4-0 down after what 30 of minutes or so but we'd only had four shots on goal in the entire game satday just gone Dr Ro plays we had 18 we had 18 shots on goal onal we had 18 shots yeah three three of them were on target yeah you don't you don't shoot at the corner flag do you're still shooting at goal right yeah so we had 18 shots on goal compared to the four that we had on goal back in April when we lost 52 um 39% possession back in April 41% possession so there is an improvement mate there is an improvement 2% more yeah see like I think it's difficult to to go I I'm not a big fan of the whole like oh you know there isn't a great a clear Improvement on David Moyes last season when it's very obvious that a lot of those new signings still being bed in um there were some raised eyebrows with a with a starting 11 uh few people expected for crook to start maybe to Deo and it didn't happen um but those players came off the bench and the strength that we've now got off the bench makes all the difference I think and those players that came off the bench did make the difference in the end so I think it's too early really to to really go this is the this is what we should now expect under Lai because I really don't think it is no I am been slightly factious as well to be fair um so what what what about this then West Ham attempted 68 Long balls against Chrystal Palace and only twice last season Newcastle away and Luton away did attempt more um what do you make of that well like I tweet tweeted you the long ball stats are very misleading um because those also include launches up field from the goalkeeper um so still balls AR they yeah every team's goalkeeper unless you're Manchester City and your goalkeeper is technically a deep line midfielder um every team fires balls up in up to the other end of the pitch like K up that was the that was the same last season but we it's saying only twice last season did we attempt more long balls don't matter who kicked them yeah but the everyone's pointing at that but then Palace like I said to you on Twitter Palace made two fewer long balls in the same game and lost the game 2-0 so what's the point what what what's your point doesn't matter about the other team no my point is is with this new style of play We're supposed to be playing and we're that I'm of all of the games we played last season only twice did we go more direct than we did on the weekend don't matter how many Palace got does it had a goalkeeper last season also I don't think it matters how how direct you go I genuinely don't don't think it matters like did when David Mo was doing it especially when you're away from home those other two games last season away from home um we've won all but one of those three games that have been quoted and the one we didn't win we should have won had it not been for some terrible refereeing away at Newcastle we 3-1 up in that game um we scored seven goals in those three games that you've quoted so but you're pointing to Long balls as being long B football's all right a particularly negative thing I'm not saying that's all right I mean if it works it works um the fact is it wasn't working till he's in the Mo's tenure which is what you're alluding to and it wasn't yeah I there you go I mean it clearly wasn't working because we got battered two the last time he played Palace this time he didn't yeah yeah I'm not sure anyway um no I must admit though it's a you know joking aside it's a brilliant win isn't it because as we said last week it we we could have genuinely been staring um like 10 games 10 points was the uh the sort of Doom and Gloom scenario that that I was looking at but what would have happened if we hadn't have won that yesterday would almost have been three games and no points wouldn't it that puts us ninth um yeah obviously no one's holding out much hope that we're gonna get anything against Manchester City next weekend um but just nice to get the first premier league win on the board yeah you want to get way early didn't you um and yeah you're right I mean I was going into the palace game G I'm not too sure you know they were good toward the end the last season um didn't really fancy us to to do much I would have been happy with a point on the day I think before the game started so yeah to to win 2-0 I think it's their first clean sheet in like 20 Premier League games as well which is pretty mad um yeah like it's it's good to get out of the way and I think the judging by a lot of the noise that's coming out within the squad um and the fact that there were signs against Villa that thing there were some positives out of that V that Villa game but yeah we're things have clicked relatively quickly under Lei hopefully yeah there were some positive signs uh from The Villa game for those who are desperate to see them um there are also see them yeah yeah there are also some uh some sketchy looking defensive signs as well but I do take your point about w m and tobo you would like to think um that that will improve just the defensive side of things certainly just on wak I think I touched on it was it last week or maybe the week before about um like actually signing him is a fantastic sign 50 million CR as well because what it does like he's not known for I mean didn't show it at the weekend he's not known for his attacking play he's one of the one-on-one defenders in the Premier League if not Europe in terms of one-on-one defending Europe know all you got to do is like a bit hyperbole some of the pandits that spoken about him in the past trust me he's very very good at it um so I think he's he gives us that defensive solid solidity um sou easy for you to say suou can go forward but questionable defensively so that's why he's been that's why he's been brought in so yeah um I mean I love Su I think he's great um but if we want to be better defensively then Juan Baka I think is a fantastic sign going to snip at 15 million h yeah not too bad I think our wages that he's on um yeah I don't think the overall deal is that snippy s quite a long old contract as well and he um Tak him well into his early 30s uh positive goal difference as well which is nice gone up to plus one uh look we'll we'll break down the game in a bit more detail in a bit James um first of all what have you been up to anything interesting happening went to a wedding on Thursday which is fun um and I manag always wedd I haven't been to one for a couple of years I think actually really I swear you just feel like you're always at weddings I know yeah you did yeah you did you went to one of you used to work with yeah yeah I went to one in um in Wales last time I went but yeah this one was in actually f it was actually in Baron Evans which was nice lovely we called it Barry these days oh Barry yeah it was in Berry um so that was nice um got to see some mates who knew from our travels over the years so they flew over so first time I haven't seen them since their own wedding a couple years ago so that was nice yeah other than that I've um yeah it's just been a really lowkey Bank H weekend mate yeah lovely I went to reading music festival wor can't get that bit of a throwback to my youth um three days in the tent saw Blink 182 uh on Friday night that was very good another throw back um The Wombats on Saturday were the Highlight never heard um you never heard of The Wombats no let's dance to Joy Division and celebrate the irony that one no no never heard of it move what about moving to New York because I got problems with my sleep no no all right fine um any one bats fans listening I hope I did that Justice um yeah no absolutely brilliant they were uh and then saw Liam Gallagher on Sunday night and confirmed ouris is getting back together what have you any thoughts on that do you care I mean I'm not I like Oasis de I mean I'm I think we should talk about this a few years ago I'm not really into my bands and my gigs and my festivals like it's not really a thing for me um I like some uis Oasis songs um I'm not I'm neither here nor there whether they get back together or not I won't be queueing up my computer four in the morning trying to buy tickets to see him live 8:00 in the morning on Tuesday mate yeah I mean I did hear a rooman I thought it'd be quite funny hear a rumor that actually that announcement that they've teased is actually they're announcing a collaboration with Man City for their fourth kit this year and it's just a um it's a little bit of a a red herring almost but yeah good luck to him um like good luck to those that particularly excited about the fact that they getting back together but which I.E millions of people you mean yeah good luck to the millions of people around the world but yeah it doesn't good I'm quite happy for him quite happy for the people that that I can't don't care I mean I genuinely don't really care I mean it hasn't it doesn't affect my life whether Oasis get back together or whether they stay split up and the brothers continue to despise each other it doesn't affect my life I'll continue to like a few of their songs and that's that's me mate I don't care potentially the greatest rock brand since the Beatles split up on in huge acrimony uh and I was supposed to the years ago when well when they split up funly enough I was uh going to V Festival they were due to be there I didn't get to see him because I had a big old Barney before that in the buildup to the eventual split up and uh yeah I was uh I will be I will be logging on to my computer at 8:00 tomorrow morning um we're recording this on bank holiday Monday um yeah I will be logging on to my computer uh trying to get tickets London and Manchester the gigs are I understand um well yeah I just honestly I don't know you could be underwhelmed by that anyway uh right um what's yeah we're gonna break down the Crystal Palace game next um and then we've got we'll have a opposition view probably with st chuda from the 9320 podcast friend of the we are West H podcast friend of Jonesy former colleague of yours is he James St yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah very good bloke been on lots of times before uh he's always very good value hope you enjoyed the Oppo view with Max Matthews last week um from the athletic he was very confident of a 2-1 Crystal Palace win bad luck Max um and yeah well so St will be the opposition view podcast later in the week and uh this week's podcast we'll do a little bit more breaking down the Crystal Palace game [Applause] next right James Thomas such I want to talk about first off because it's a bit fashionable at the moment and it really annoys me not just at the moment last season as well where people I don't know if it's because they don't want to because he's not fashionable because he's not very handsome because he's a bit ungainly he's a bit gangly and he's not a he's not a beautiful football to footballer to watch in many senses of of the word um but I've got huge respect for Thomas such I think he gives absolutely everything for West Ham and has done since he arrived for a snip at 15 million pounds he's been absolutely integral to all of our recent success one of the first names on the team Sheet I think people are were expecting and hoping for him to be bummed out in place of one of our shiny new signings uh I'm not certain that's going to happen uh I thought he was really good against Aston Villa I thought he was man of the match I know people were bit annoyed because he was sort of responsible like involved in um one of the Villa goals but absolutely brilliant again against p and pops up with a goal again right position right time and it's a bit like what I was saying for a long time when Declan rice a made an agreement with the club that he would stay one more year if they let him explore his Frank Lampard complex as I call it um where he's sort of desperate to be a number eight and be going forward as as much as disciplined at the back such suffered for that because he's actually very good going forward um I think he's much more positionally talented than people give him credit for popped up with a nice goal at the weekend nice finish with his left foot slotted it in um and I won't hate it at all and it looks like he's giving himself a very decent chance of being a regular starter under lakei as well I think that often sort of happened with Mark Noble didn't it um and Noble said himself after his career one of the things he's most proud of was I think it was nine managers or something he played under at West Ham uh because they all kept coming back to him uh I think such he just provides so much invisible value James uh and people don't really appreciate him I think that's sort of carrying on so I was delighted to see him him score at the weekend yeah I I said last week that I I didn't feel like Su will will be a long-term starter in L's Midfield and I do kind of feel that way I I think Alvarez and Rodriguez is probably the way that he's going to go um but I I agree with you I feel like the the criticism that he's had throughout his westand career I mean maybe not so much at the beginning but particularly over the last year to 18 months has been incredibly unjust Because he pops up goals like he's one of the best one of the best at arriving late in the box and being in the right place at the right time yeah um he's more of a Frank Lampard than Dean rice is yeah and I think he got he got a little bit sticker after the Villa game um purely because of his passing um and he's never really been a passer of the ball exactly it's just not good but if you stick him in the Box um if you if you know if you just if if you need to rely on a player on that team to be in the box at the right place the rights AR finish he's one of the only players in that Squad that you count on to be there 99 times out of 100 yeah um so I think much more technically gifted than people give him credit for I think not he's not a passer I will give you that but I do think his ability with the ball in more so in attacking position remember the goal at Everton he scored yeah you know he pops up with a few and they're often good finishes aren't they as well as being really positionally aware he's he's a better player than a lot of people give him credit for I mean he scored over 30 goals for us in 200 games or something like that that's not a bad not bad going for a midfielder yeah um so yeah he put a little bit more respect on his name I think but um I do Wonder particularly with the rumors that we're bringing in Soler from PSG before Friday's deadline I I don't know I don't know how long such's sort of or how secure such starting plac is uh moving forward um particular with Alvarez come now back from injury that Alvarez is a starter so yeah I don't know but not a bad player to have to come off the bench either is he really well no no no yeah I I I mean I'm yet to be sold on on Rodriguez to be fair um obviously I didn't watch the uh I didn't watch the full game obviously because I was C uh carrying away from the rain in a tent in the middle of the field in bark year um so I didn't manage to see the game but I mean r R has got one of the uh one of the lower marks of all of our players um like a match his match rating lower than all of our other midfielders basically B and such uh petta and cus only sua and Emerson were given lower oh and Antonio of course were given lower marks than than Rodriguez um yeah I I'm not sure I I think Alvarez starts I'm not really sure what is it that makes you feel that Rodriguez will be the answer over such a better pass of the ball simple as that I think he's just the a better ball player than such I that's what longterm L would be wanting from his Midfield is just players that can get on the ball and play um like he didn't have a bad game I've only seen the extended highlights I have recorded the game um when Sky replay late Saturday night I've recorded that I not have the chance to to go back and watch it but um he did make the the tackle that led to kilman's upfield run um at the edge of on the edge of our box um so he's type of player that can that can make decent tackles as well I just think I think it goes down the fact that he's a ball player um yeah fair enough um we we did a little bit of a thing last week about the uh about the the subs and all of that sort of stuff um full Krug made a made a big impact when he come on it appeared did you say one um one loads of aerial Jewels did you have a stat for that ready F five aerial Jewels apparently um and that's was more than anyone in the entire game Saw on Twitter so yeah not bad for a Target man yeah so Antonio got Antonio got an hour um wanasa replaced soual at the same time as F kug replaced Antonio um fug was in and around the box for such's goal um tried to do a little flick and then it ended up sort of bouncing into such's path um what do you make of the of the decision to start Antonio again other than annoying it's a little bit annoying um I think it is purely Bing betting new signings in um where where we can afford to bed them in think R like in Midfield um I understand the need to put Rodriguez in state straight away similar with kilman at the back understand that because Zuma's on his way out uh and agued is unsure whether he wants to play for us still or not apparently um but beyond that I think the rest could we could have afforded to kind of just give them a little a few minutes here and there the cup game on Wednesday night I think we can expect pretty much all of them to to start and then depending on how they get on there then we might see them start against a few more of them start against City I think we can probably expect wber saaka to start against city as a more defensive right back um but yeah I don't mind it I my ey it did raise my eyebrows when I saw the starting lineup on Saturday afternoon I thought I would have expected raka to play to start um and I wasn't really sure and I probably expected tobo to start as well I still I felt like he probably would still go with Antonio yeah but we know long term it's going to be for up front as a starter um he would have signed for us if he was told you're going to you're going to be back up to Antonio yeah yeah I no course not no no no no definitely not but he does look I don't know it's just nice that he was involved do you know what I mean as in in one of the goals I know he wasn't really but he also was wasn't he and I just think I I wanted to get off the Mark soonish I wanted to start score on his first start and then that's it then then he like goes on kicks on and becomes a total West Ham Legend yeah I mean what I liked um after the game as Clips on on social media of uh the fans at s's Park singing um big F in German to him yeah and um he's turning around he's doing the camera signs and he's clapping the fans and he's you know he's clearly soaking up the the agulation a little bit um the atmos yeah and you know like I think that's that would have been really important to him for the F to hear support from the fans I know he's only had two sub appearances but to know the fans are behind him and they love him so soon into his career she will give him the confidence boost he needs just to get off the mark early as well I think Wednesday against bouth and the Cup's probably the perfect opportunity for him do you think he starts that I think he starts that yeah really yeah he he start on wednes night yeah he will start yeah bold prediction um yeah look we we'll chat about that bouth game in a minute I don't think we're going to have time given the quick turnaround to get an opposition view out ahead of that so me and James will we have a chat about the Bournemouth game shortly but let let's stick on Palace James Lucas petta muhamad cus as well um I know we sort of we clashed on this um a little bit about cus last week uh but petta decent again him Bowen and cus all all joint top um for the man of the Match ratings for West Ham but Jared Bowen though uh again absolutely class isn't he just unassuming going about his business um great to see him smash one in the back of the net and a tidy little finish all sparked from a move from Waka as well he did did very well indeed to sort of get us out of a tight spot of the back dinked it around the Winger um and then plays boing in and and a very nice Counterattack move alar Moyes dare I say y it was kilman that that set B up um sorry that was the it was the Su it same same time and bow had had a parts of playing both goals yeah yeah yeah and he's he's hit the ground running similar way that he ended last season I thought when he appeared for England in the summer he he he played well have a good account himself at the Euros so um and I feel like him getting the armbands just giving him that just raised him up a level yeah um cross the board so yeah like I'm not surprised he's he hit double figures easily again this season he probably hit 20 again all competition so yeah um very very goal was it it was a lovely goal um inside smashed it in a corner when I when I was watching I was like it felt like he left the shot too late because the two Defenders were closing in on him very quickly but very good finish um very quickly becoming a West Ham Legend um oh big time yeah I S now a seven-year deal yeah I think he it'll go on he's funny isn't he because he's so quiet and unassuming he's sort of like I don't know he's not a he's not a vintage West Ham Legend is he really because he hasn't got that bit of sort of neor bit of edge like he's not a Paulo Deano or Julian dicks or yeah Billy B yeah yeah or even a pate do you know what I mean he's just like I don't know he just does all the all the sort of fair not boring stuff that's probably harsh but I don't know he's just he's fairly there's no thrills is there he just like works really hard he's really fit like just very professional very professional exactly efficient and professional yeah yeah like he doesn't really ever score screamers does he do you know what I mean he doesn't smash him in from 25 yards no like he's just in the right place at the right time um sweeping up all the all the good stuff um uh just quickly James as well the celebrations the away fans uh Crystal Palace fans having a bit of a pop at at West Ham fans because a load of them celebrating the second goal Bowen puts two up just five minutes after such open to score him that was 72 minutes Bowen's goal he ran over to the fans as you do kissed the captain's arm band did a little knee slide all the players come over to celebrate with him um and yeah and then obviously the fans sort of ran ran forward to celebrate with the players as well the advertising hoen fell over and sort of looked like a trapped or like the electric hoing aren't they and trapped the little ball boy underneath I think it was such um again hero from such and boen like of going out their way to to try and make sure the little lad was all right meanwhile Lucas petta is launching himself on top of the uh on top of the players and into the fans obviously he didn't see the the kid that was trapped um yeah I was all a bit unsavory hopefully the little kids okay uh but a few Palace fans on on social media having a pop as if the West Ham fans knew what they were doing yeah it's a little bit weird to to blame anyone for that um to like they they're not they they Rush forward to celebrate any set of fans does that at Cellar park because of the way stand is yeah and then probably rushing forward to try and see the pitch because the worst view in the history of the world in that way yeah and then like first of all what palace doing not fixing that advertising holding a little bit more securely to the ground maybe drill It To The Ground Lads yeah yeah and also how B boy should have got out the way first it's not the B boy's fault but like you got bit victim blame in there J yeah I mean like the end of the day like he he was there it was unfortunate it fell on top of him and thankfully such and baron were you know clocked it early and got him out there it could have been a lot worse um but you can't blame anyone for that like it's just no it's just an accident is what it is but I'm glad you mentioned pet because I watched it back a few times you just see jumps in lies on his back and he's fling leg loving every single minute of it not knowing about two yards to the left of him little boys being crushed to death um yeah like apparently the kids are right he got B and everyone's happy but um yeah for for anyone blaming West a fans still a bit odd really yeah not one of the weirder fan bases Palace usually either are they do you know what I mean or do you oh oh go you know you know my Palace I love beating Palace every year I absolutely love it when we beat them I think they did I'm pretty sure I've spoke about before I think one of the most points football clubs in the Premier League and they got they got 30 fans behind the goal that think they're like they're like Ultras and they got these like pathetic little T that they do oh wearing black pajamas yeah yeah and it's just all a little bit odd like they think they're and when they were a little run under glasa to the end of last year you know you I see some of their fans talking about oh you know I can't wait for us to get Europe next year and had four P England squad suddenly they were the greatest team in in English football um Adam wal is the greatest midfielder that England have ever produced and it's like oh grow up Lads um enjoy your success and they they had better success now because well they've lost their first two of the season um yeah I just just something about Palace they finished in the top 10 of the Premier League once in their entire history but somehow they they feel like they're a lot better than they actually are what because one year they stopped Liverpool for winning the Premier League like stop it boys like you're not that good you're bang average at best um they did beat us in the playoff final yeah and one of the worst playoff finals that's ever been played by the way that was a terrible both teams were rubbish need Neil shiffley to score a tap in the winner yeah we win yeah I I just I don't really I mean I know a few a few Palace fans um and they're all right but um the club as a whole doesn't belong in the Premier League for me belongs in the championship unbelievable I'm not sure how how you tell me how does this compare to your hatred of Nottingham Forest because that's a bit of a newer one isn't it you really hate the forest I mean this is quite a rogue because I generally like quite like Crystal Palace I think they they they got I do know what you mean about the Ultras but on the whole C par proper football ground terrible view from the away end like really sort that stand out that is annoying it's like good ground to go to that's bit awkward to get to right they're a proper clubs you know what I mean and like you don't support Palace for the glory right I know you might support it because you know you just like wearing all black and for a load of other grown men to do the same um but not every one of the fans does that and I think like sort of I don't know I think they're all right I don't hate them quite as passionately as you do as it compared to your Forest no I've just I'm not Vendetta the forest thing kind of it's eased a little bit really for me um I mean I would much prer if they were relegated um after all that stuff that went on a couple of years ago thought they just got well above their station way too soon but only one based on referee sorry go on but yeah with palish like one top 10 finish in the Premier League era there done 18 Seasons done it once that was only 10th as well they only just did it like they only just they always finish 14th or 15th oh M they're The Perennial 13th Place finishers yeah just I'm B I'm bored of it get someone else up that just wants to have a go like Brighton Brighton have done just existing yeah Brighton have done it they've come in they've given the Premier League a go brenford have showing signs that they they might CL it Palace is doing in it just for the like the TV money of year they don't want to push it on they don't care just take the TV money every year finish 13th happy days they also have a rivalry of good Championship players in selling for a bit of profit BR what yeah that rivalry they've got with Brighton also quite weird yeah it's just pointless in it like they're not even anywhere near each other and they just hate each other it's almost like they've got no other rival so just I just don't like that team from down there because they've also got a bird on their badge like we have I grow up Bo well flipping out Crystal Palace fans absolutely proper offended to uh here that I do I hope you got the bottle to put that on social media because oh yeah I'd do that well we've got we've got a new video withit so we have to let him know no that's true actually yeah we have yeah Alex Smith who welcomed to the podcast team uh a couple of weeks ago he's had a little holiday in Portugal but um yeah I think this might be his first week on the team so yeah good point James I will definitely do that because um yeah I've just make a nice change for you to get a bit of flack rather than me um so yeah we'll um right anything else and James I think um just a quick word please on Max kilman because one thing that did annoy me and I think it was your Twitter that brought it to my attention um someone I think it was Smithy used to be on soccer am works with Sky posted a video of Van djk running in a straight line with the ball and laying it off to someone 10 yards away from him vanen yeah was it vanen sorry not van djk yeah um it was ah no one in the Premier League could no other Center back could ever do this like Max kilman literally done it with a more impressive zigzagging run and then a wonderful Precision pass that that led directly to a goal um yeah that that was funny and that tweet was a little bit annoying as well but um yeah just a word on Max [Music] kilman well before the season started every W have pulled our pants down a 4 million qued for him um I don't think I ever saw anyone say that he was worth worth the fee that be paid um I think two games in I think he's more than more than proved that he's well worth the 40 million quid um both games very impressive I thought the way he picked the ball out ball up out of Defense beat two players and then fed Bowen through that's what you want out a center back every now and then then somethingone that can be a little bit more Progressive at the right times but can also defend um so yeah I think he's a fantastic signing I mean him alongside tobo and tobo's um wearing to go yeah I mean decent Center back per and he got mavropanos sort of waiting in the wings to to deputize as him when needed not a bad Tri hour of center backs yeah there was chat about um mpos going wasn't there um I don't is it you forgive me is it stuar or Wolfsburg who he was at before us um and apparent yeah stutgart was it apparently they're uh they're in for him again or they they fancy him back um rumors that we basically make our money back on him uh would you what do you what do you think on that because he he's been an odd one hasn't he as we've said before I think the best way to sum him up is that he looks absolutely imperious for 89 and a half minutes uh but that 30 seconds he's a Sunday League player and does a massive clanger which tends to lead to a goal all right he hasn't he hasn't dropped one of them I don't think this season so far um but yeah I don't know whether I'd care or not if he went but just I think I'd rather he stayed than Zumer or agu probably well Zuma's gone um he's he's having a medical I think as we speak with another yeah as we speak he's in sa having a medical um but yeah hoping it's more lenient than the first one he failed yeah yeah uh but agu or M paros I mean I think it's more likely agu leaves like he's not featured at all he been on the bench this season um but yeah either or I mean if one goes you got to keep the other and at the moment I'd rather keep me Panos because he's played last two games pretty well he does have a mistake in him which is a little bit worrying he did make a a he did pass the ball to Crystal Palace at the weekend which L to an attack which I think arola in the moment is save but um but yeah I think he's done enough to Warrant being the backup center half but we probably need another one though really you IDE want the thing definitely mate yeah and I think I say yeah I wouldn't be too sad to um see the back of Zumer at all um think his body's just letting down asn't he's not at the level anymore or a so yeah um yeah hopefully does stay um and then we we we get someone else in as you mentioned uh right anything else in James on the on the palace game um just sort of good positive all round and we'll just ignore the fact that we did look quite open at the back shall we um well we've touched on that we touched touched on the reasons why we were potentially open at the back right at the beginning um I don't me like that for All Season I think yeah lots of positives again lots of positives um nice to get the first win up on the board um obviously doesn't help we've got City next in the league but um get it out of the way a get it out of the way early and then move on but yeah I'm I'm I'm very very positive I'm excited to see where the season goes because there's been I've been very impressed so far yeah night at home are you going no I'm not going no no I've decided to because I'm going on Saturday coming from Berry to London twice in a week um yeah a little bit awkward for me at the moment I've done it before but little bit awkward for me at the moment fair enough um yeah a bit of an annoying draw really Bournemouth at home Premier League team in the league cup I know still winnable but um yeah what what team you expecting in don't say Bournemouth don't say You're Expecting Bournemouth I mean yes what team you expecting westand to play uh I think it'll be heavily rotated I think we'll see all the other new signings that haven't started yet this season they'll play um Lucas in goal no doubt be Lucas in goal it'll be Waka probably Debo um and Mos um so you expect W even if you're expecting him to play against City yeah I think I think it'd be good just to give the minutes right so yeah um he's only what played what 25 minutes for us so far so we could for him to get another hour in before city um yeah but then you maybe Creswell starts instead of um Emerson uh um but yeah I don't think there'll be many many more Chang I think it' be a relatively strong strong 11 to be honest yeah f up front probably see Edson play instead of such maybe Ward press all depends on really what members of the squad are on their way out between now and Friday's deadline day yeah some some are being lined up to be sold then they won't be involved um so yeah but we'll see what happens but I think it'll be heavily rotated we'll see some some of the new signings start for the first time do you expect us to win um expecting us to win a cup game doesn't matter against who who it is um is a little bit ambitious for West Ham isn't it you're right mate you're Snee sorry I'm having absolute sneezing attack here yeah very sorry I'm trying to do them silently but um I don't know if it's working it make for a make for a funny video anyway yeah Alex is G have to cck that one up as domestic cup cups aren't we um but yeah be interesting L's approach to it w i mean with City on the weekend you sort of think well you know probably lose that anyway so I don't know it' be a nice sort of thing to stamp his authority on the on the season won't it or do you think he he's a sort of type who will just be like look we're not in Europe conc in the league I've got a good thing going here um but I don't suppose any manag just think like that just want to win the game should they yeah I think I think given it's what is only his third game I'd be very surp surprised if his his approach is I'm not really bothered about this I'd rather conc the league like he's going to want to get as many wins as possible under his belt early doors so that's why I think it'd be a strong team interested to see whether Bournemouth might be a little bit like because I watched them against new over the weekend and they they look good um and they've looked good under the the manager half decent second half of last season whe they might be Iola and something yeah like they might be like well we're not really that bothered about this we'd rather concentrate on finishing in the top 10 this year or something like that so but yeah um I don't know I think I think we can beat them of course we can beat them of course we can beat them but I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't is all I'm going to say no I think uh yeah I I think we'll we'll properly go for it um Summerville You' imagine he would start which could be exciting I think that that's what's nice isn't it it will be a rotated team but that doesn't necessarily mean we're going to be rubbish like it perhaps has done previously where we haven't got anyone on the bench you know strength and depth is all a little bit odd like bringing off bringing players Off the Bench and they're actually having impacts on games it's unbelievable yeah yeah on that note though I do not want to see Danny in starting even if it is Bournemouth but um yeah our third highest earner perhaps given a chance to earn some of his money um right okay then James give us a score prediction then Bournemouth Wednesday night I fantasy it'll be nice and comfortable I reckon like 3-1 I'm going to go 2N yeah two n yeah yeah fair enough I don't know crept up on me a little bit this I normally play football on Wednesdays um I haven't got my ticket or anything yet but uh yeah I might fancy it might be a little last minute one kids kids for a quid as well unfortunately James I am 32 so yeah but amongst all the concessions all the concessions debarked that's going on at the moment the club have responded with a cheeky little kids for the kids for a quid kids for a quid in the first game of the the first round even of The League Cup yeah well look um promises to be a uh an interesting I totally agree with you actually I think it'll be a a chance for leri to stamp a positive mark on the team and the uh and the squad uh but yeah look brilliant West Ham ninth in the table positive goal difference first win and a away winner is always nice as well and I just think that takes a little bit of pressure off particularly with Man City coming up at the weekend just quickly James as I've already said we'll have Steve chuda from the 9320 podcast on hopefully later in the week uh I haven't spoke to him yet but he's always pretty reliable is St uh what you what you thinking for the man city game it's almost boring isn't it because we already know what we're going to say about it h it's a total right off of a game as it always is uh and is sort of indicative or um endemic endemic I don't know it's some sort of word about how non-competitive uh the premier league has become thanks to the huge amounts of money in it is that what you're going to say uh no it wasn't I was going to be a little bit more positive um yeah and say that we probably will lose but recent home games against city um have been relatively tight we've drawn the odd one or two um have we yeah we drew Drew with them behind closed doors one two I think it was um and we drew with them a couple of years ago when they were going to they were trying to win the league and they end up beating Villa on the last day but we almost sto from wi the league by draw with them at home so but then even beat them in the cup didn't we on penalties the cup on penalties but yeah there's been a couple of draws in there they've been a lot more tighter at home than they were the first few years after we moved there and now battering us five or six n every time they Ro up well that's kind of what I'm thinking mate yeah well I don't I don't think it's going to be like that I think I'd be very very surprised if they spank it's five or six n um but but yeah I think it' be tight I'm going to go probably probably a 31 defeat right um just quickly James yeah so we the the last three games the last game at home was a 3-1 win to City uh the one before that this in the Premier League was a 2-nil win to City we drew two all I assume that's a game you're talking about 15th of May 2022 and nil nil in the league cup and then we beat them on penalties that was a good one uh one all as well in the Prem I don't remember these I seem to remember getting thrashed all the time but yeah the yeah before that uh a five-nil defeat uh a 4-nil defeat a 4-nil defeat and a 5-nil defeat in the FA Cup there as well so um yeah it does does annoy me a bit and I do think as well like what I one of the strengths of David Moyes was that we looked better against the bigger teams because the way to beat them if you're going to is to just go full-blown defensive isn't it and try and ride your luck for 90 minutes um yeah I do feel if we sort of trying to be a bit more attacking and expressive um and if we leave the openings we did at the back against uh against City like we did against Palace and Villa um I think we could be in for another another vintage four or five nil to Man City but um yeah let's just get it out of the way shall we yeah I thought I think Lai will approach it in probably a very similar way to Moyers um he will be a little bit more defensive I mean any manager worth their assault will will not go into this game and go let's just attack them I mean look it did that the weekend attack them in their own backyard for the first 10 minutes and end up getting spanked they got goal good luck to him but yeah I mean if play well against them to be fair but um ended up getting annihilated so it really isn't a way to go about it is it no so I I don't think think he'll do that I think we'll be a little bit more conservative um we've got the players to to to beat them I think this year I mean could us could Us in his Pace will cause them a few problems I'm sure but yeah I'm not I'm not anticipating another Walling let's put it that way no all right well fair enough fair enough um right James that's it for another week um what a
