and make anything out of it except you know to talk about the butterflies and the nerves from both players because it's uncy to see the amount of mistakes they're making and the percentage of first serves you know at 50% for both of them it's you know it's just not there it's a nervy start to begin just Pula serving at one two first serve on the way trying to swing it out wide towards the moova couldn't quite do that though Russ with Muka breaking back and now stepping to serve both players seem fully settled into this match and the crowd seems settled in too 34 first serve from mova in the near Court down the Tula can do nothing but throw up a defensive L and that works just fine because off of the bouns moova just netted the overhead in the middle of the Court she's made very diff difficult overheads and characteristic really from moova that was definitely the easiest one she's missed I know and mova her unforced error count is way up in the second set 16 unforced errors to for it is because I think Jess Pula is giving her something to hit that she's not comfortable with which is those down the feet down the ankle area of balls were very difficult on the transition ball the first game and that 3-1 she was able to also uh lead to 4-1 with that hold of serve at love so two hold as Ser serves at love for moova only one but it was really important to do it right here at 40 and what's the dynamic out there Nick yeah no I mean it's definitely settled in and Jill grais is sitting next to me from the world feed TV team and we're both noticing mova has just been stretching out kind of her lower left back she kind of sat back a little bit during that change over I haven't seen well I thought it was evidenced a little bit in that last point so just watching it second serve on the way mova takes it with a forand goes crosscourt to the forand of Pula deep down the middle and will fly deep down the middle as well and now Pula goes to the backhand of mova that forces the error on a Down the Line hard ball to the forehand of Jesse and it's love 15 that was a good reply here from moova telling herself to move forward try to be more aggressive herself so Pula first serve offering at love kicker out wide to the mova backand one handed reply to the middle of the Court hard and deep to the forand from Jesse and now mova has a backand to backand down the middle of the court mova goes crosscourt with the forehand now trying to go down the line and move forward but she pushes it long and it's 15 all I mean good depth again I mean I think p is doing exactly what she needs to do try to keep the ball deep try to uh as soon as you have the opportunity to be aggressive and being charge of the points and that's exactly what she's been doing in this last uh four games on that last Point looked like mova wanted to get in on the shot before but Jesse's reply was just too good and then she forced an approach and pushed the forend long first serve she can do is laugh it is just too good insane tennis from moov and now she's got a break point Jessica Pula from 40 love to go up 4-1 in the third now facing a break point that would put this set back on serve into the forehand reply deep to the backhand corner of Pula now a for an inside out mova misses and after four straight winners mova finally gives Pula a little bit of relief stps that rot but oh boy what a comeback in that game and is nothing that Pula did wrong so just have to keep at it tension Rising on Arthur as Stadium five and a half minutes into this service game it's deuce and a beautiful first serve out wide from Jessica Pula forces the wide return and Pula will have a fourth opportunity to take a 4-1 lead in the third just have felt in those last few points that Jess was a little tentative especially on those overhead balls so I think that serve is huge for her there Russ game point now first serve from Pula out wide to the back end and mova a beautiful first serve from Jessica Pula and she does get the game win and she does take a 4-1 lead in the third in this US Open single semifinal absolutely crazy I mean this game alone I can't I cannot believe you know how well mova played those four points to come back into that game and how study and uh how great the serve was for pigula to close that one out here and Lead 4-1 in this final set this is an hour and 51 minutes I tell you pretty amazing Nick what's it like watching muh even though mova didn't win that game yeah but what's it like watching mova sort of in full flight from that CL oh my God it's amazing Jill and I have Jill Kraus and I have turned to each other a few times and just been like wow and that was I don't know how it felt calling it but it did feel like shades of mova from the first set in that last game it felt like if she was going to win that game it would have been 23 the dynamic just would have been so different that's how it felt on the court and I said to you Russ before that last point that Jess won is she needed those last two serves I felt like she got a little bit tentative off the ground and then especially on those overheads I just didn't think she was accelerating uh too much off of them but Pula maintains that control and there has been a little bit of that frustration I don't know if you guys have seen it through the screen but mova you know exhaling and rolling her eyes at a couple times it it this has been frustrating for her yeah don't you think that the lack of uh match play and probably to that level maybe uh you know is is the reason that mova is not really yeah I mean it's is I mean you got to you got to look at it with what happened throughout the year could be but she's looked amazing throughout this tournament hadn't lost a set till the second set of this match here but she's serving at 1 14 in the third mova first serve down the T it's a clean Ace but she hasn't been really pushed throughout the the you know this tournament but when you think of it didn't have that mini match play of that caliber except in Cincinnati when they played already with that threet Setter she only had that one three Setter I think through the second set and from then on it was all Jessica Pula who is into the US Open final to face Arena sabalenka on Saturday at the US Open unbelievable unbelievable as uh moova is leaving the court uh thanking the crowd what a comeback for the American what a thrill what a match oh wow I'm I'm speechless in so many ways but you know for me to be speechless it takes a really a lot well we're going to hear some speeches soon because I'm sure we're going to hear Jessica Pula with Renee stubs let's listen in through to your first ever major [Applause] final I got so many questions what were you thinking a set to love break point down you hit that absolutely amazing slice forehand and she missed that volley what went through your mind mind after that point I was thinking all right that was kind of Lucky like try like you're still in this and it comes down to really small moments that flip momentum and she I came out flat but she was playing unbelievable I mean she made me look like a beginner I was like about to like burst into tears because it was embarrassing like she was destroying me and I was able to just hold into that game and um I was able to find a way find some adrenaline find my legs and then at the end into the second set into the third set I started to play like how I wanted to play and it just I yeah it took a while but um I I don't know how I turned that around honestly we saw you after the second set when she went off the court you went over to the boys from the Bahamas over there your coaching crew what did they tell you in that uh time that you went over there yeah um they were telling me to mix up the serve a little bit keep mixing up the spins and keeping her guessing few kicks out wide maybe to her backand um and to just play her backhand maybe a little bit more um you know she was getting that backhand down the line really well just to cover that a little bit more it was just a few other things I mean it wasn't anything different I started to kind of do it at the end of the second but I think I was really to hone able to hone in on a couple of those things really early and um you know also just compete and use my legs and try and think clearly out there so your sister's in the box there your dad's also here he doesn't sit in the Box he's some random spot here in the stadium oh there he is up on the big screen and your mom I know is at home what does it mean to you to have your family all here supporting you and what does that mean for you to be in your first final of a Grand Slam at the US Open I mean it's amazing um I have my brother there my sister there um on the screen was my dad my brother-in-law lots of friends lots of family all scattered around um obviously my husband sorry yeah for about him he's not even standing up he doesn't want to be seen um but yeah I have so much family here and they've been here um watching a lot of my matches so to still be here and have them still here supporting me is is crazy um I'm glad that they're able to to share this moment with me okay so next we know your next opponent is Arena saal Lena give me your thoughts on playing her and just what this means to you to finally be in a major final I mean first of all I'm just happy I was a ble to turn this match around on such a big stage and figure it out but two yeah playing arena is going to be really tough I mean she yeah she showed how tough she is um and why she's probably the favorite to win this tournament um it'll be a rematch of Cincinnati so hopefully I can get some Revenge out here but uh happy to have a day off yeah it's kind of crazy that we're playing each other again in the in the finals but I think it just shows how um you know how much great cour tennis we've been playing and she's going to be obviously tough to be but um um you know that's what the finals are for so I'm ready Jessica this was one of the most phenomenal turnarounds in your biggest match of your career I've said it all week she takes the subway she was born in New York through to her first major final Jessica [Applause] Pula Nick what was it like experiencing that from down low as Jessica Pula yeah signs the balls that she'll hit into the stands yeah you're going to hear people get allowed for a little autograph Russ what a great match what a great turnaround I thought that was well said by Renee stubs but I I just Jess Pula has worked her whole career for this and to see her do it in front of the home crowd I think as Russ you and I are Americans and and Sophie I know you respect you know what it's like for American too well yes you are well I I yeah I just I guess I feel like I'm a little bit at loss forward because she did turn that match around and she said it Russ actually I thought she said it best is that at the end of the second set she finally got to play the tennis that she wanted and it took her that long to settle into her first major semi-final and now she's a finalist she's got a huge smile on her face after she autographed those tennis balls and she got to do it her way Sophie as as we said she needed to Midway through that second set and she's going to give sabalan everything she can handle what a cool moment tonight too we didn't want the Americans well I'm biased I'll say it we didn't want the Americans to go 0 and2 and uh Navaro played so well against sabalenka and Jess Pula was able to come out with a win she's going to play the final on Saturday yeah I mean uh thank you uh that was great to have you uh courts side as always thank you Nick uh the one thing you know I remember this uh one interview on court interview of uh Jessica pigula in a tournament on WTA tour with uh Andrew kzne and Andrew said you know how do you how do you you know she came back from a match and said how do you do it and she basically looked at him said I'm tough I'm tough and she said that twice and everybody were like well yeah you are tough and this is exactly what she shown tonight she is a tough cookie out there and the fact that she was able to turn this match around with the way she was playing and feeling which as she mentioned felt like she was basically having you know moova giving her a clinic out there and be embarrassed of being out there I think it's it's probably one of the biggest win right there because it's great to win one and one you know you're like oh fantastic but when you come back from a match where you have absolutely no business winning I mean it is so much better and a better feel in your in your mind in your body it's it's amazing Jessica Pula has taken the long road to the top we've mentioned many times 0 and six in major quarterfinals before her winover igos fiant last night the world number one to get into the semi-finals she also dealt with major hip injury and surgery earlier in her career that really delayed the start of her rise which didn't really come until 2019 when she picked up that win in DC and started rolling now at the age of 30 Jessica Pula is fully formed as an athlete and as a competitor and we kind of saw it all on This Night the nerves of someone who was there for the
