Packers Vs Ravens RECAP! Michael Pratt Should Be Backup, Emanuel Wilson Strong Performance, Defense

so we have a lot to talk about from this Packers versus Ravens game the final preseason game for the Packers there's still a lot of positional battles taking place the biggest ones that I want to talk about are the backup quarterback battle the running back battle and then I'll touch on a few different standout players from the defensive side of the ball there was a lot of positives especially on the defensive side with four different Force turnovers and then we'll talk about the kicker situation it ended really poorly uh today with honors Carlson so we'll touch on all of that in this video if against the Broncos because if you watch that game against the Broncos last what was it Sunday like me you probably wish you just forgotten that the game had happened it would have been a little easier to just not even witness what took place last week but today was much better the Packers won the game 30 to7 of course preseason games scores don't necessarily matter but it gives you a good indication of what really happened today all these guy a lot of guys on the Packers team really fighting for their careers fighting for roster spots some of these guys are going to get cut maybe end up on other teams other guys will probably be signed to the practice squad and some of them will be some of the final players on this Packers 53 man roster and so the biggest thing today was 38 Packers players rested so it was no starters really out here playing for the Packers mainly Fringe roster guys guys and other guys who will not make the roster it's hard to tell with some of it because some of the players are injured one guy like AJ Dylan who did miss last week's game um at first didn't realize it was an injury now we know it's a stinger we don't know how long he's going to be out and so he was missing today's game as well but 38 player Packers players did not start first off I want to start with the Packers backup quarterback battle Sean Clifford versus Michael Pratt so Sean Clifford was the one who started out there this week and it wasn't a great start he started off one for seven the Ravens defensive line was definitely bringing Lots or getting lots of pressure he was he was getting pressured back there in the pocket but he was still struggling one for seven one ball was dropped one was a throwaway and then one he tried to Target Bo Melton and Melton was just completely covered and so not a great start for Sean Clifford then Michael Pratt came in I think it was after the first two series and he was looking really really good he ended up throwing a beautiful touchdown pass to Bo Melton I believe he was 18 yards it was sort of like a a back shoulder type throw where Pratt just stands back there dials it in pretty much puts it where only only Bo Melton can grab it it was a beautiful catch by Bo Melton for the touchdown and so it was a really good start for Michael Pratt and just looking at you know the difference between Pratt and Sean Clifford just when it comes to their skill sets it seems to me like Michael Pratt has a stronger arm just any throw short passes intermediate passes there's just a lot more zip on the ball when you're watching Michael Pratt versus Sean Clifford and um I think that that's important I mean just because of his ability to um get it out quickly it just goes faster than when you're watching Sean Clifford it just looks much more smooth he just looks much smoother when you comparing to to Michael or to Sean Clifford as a quarterback and then Sean cord came back in a little later and started playing a little bit better he did finish with 6 for 14 53 yards 3.8 uh average yards and he had one touchdown zero interceptions a 77.4 rating he did have a really nice touchdown pass to Malik Heath Malik Heath had a solid day as well four receptions 39 yards one touchdown so it wasn't a great day from Sean Clifford um but if you look to Michael Pratt it was a very very good day until he threw a a really bad interception it was it just was a completely terrible unwise decision by Michael Pratt it wasn't even close just completely I don't know what he didn't see just totally misread the situation ball got picked off uh they were close to the Red Zone and then he goes and he tries to make the tackle on the guy obviously you know you like to see that competitiveness that that aggressiveness but you know when he's your quarterback you're sort of hoping that they'll maybe save themselves cuz he went in for the hit got hit really hard and he looked like he was in a ton of pain right after and I was wondering what it was it sort of looked like maybe it could have been his shoulder or his chest or maybe it was some kind of head trauma or head you know concussion but then after going the sideline he seemed to be fine he came back out there so maybe he just got the wind knocked out of him but it was a scary moment there and so outside of that one interception he did look pretty good he threw for 80 yards one touchdown one interception we already talked about that beautiful pass to B Melton finished with a 78.5 rating so only about one point higher than Sean C just looking at passer rating and if you would have taken out that Pratt interception I would have said Okay Michael Pratt easily won this job that's how it was looking early in the game but then when you have just such a bad play like that a bad interception it makes you go okay well they're a little closer than they were um when you look at the you know entire game I still just think from my perspective Michael Pratt just has more physical talent and I think in the long run you have to consider the fact that Michael Pratt is still a first year player a rookie where Sean Clifford has a year ahead of him and so the fact that Michael Pratt already looks more talented in my opinion and they're producing at a somewhat similar level just looking at you know their Stats today I think think you have to roll with Michael Pratt I think he would give me more confidence than um Sean Clifford at this point I don't know if that's what the Packers will do um because Sean cord does have more experience in this offense and it could be that because they know he probably knows the offense a little bit better if they you know L to go down in a game who do they trust more to run the offense and you know control the line of scrimmage and you know switch up protections things like that it still could be Sean Clifford even though I think Pratt is more talented so I would go with with Pratt but at the same time I wouldn't be like I wouldn't be completely shocked if Clifford didn't somehow win the backup job and the question becomes will they keep two quarterbacks will they keep three I just think with the the amount of talent you have on this roster I think you just have to keep two quarterbacks so I would say keep Pratt release Clifford and see what happens maybe he comes back to the practice squad that's just my take on that now the other I would say most interesting position right now is still the running back position and what makes this a little bit tricky is the injury situ ation we have Marshon Lloyd third round rookie dealing with a hamstring injury we still are pretty uncertain as to how long he is going to be out and we don't know if he's going to be ready for week one or if this is an injury that could continue on and then now as well another injury to watch in the in the running back room is AJ Dylan with a stinger and with those kinds of injuries there just really no um clear idea of how long he's going to be out and it sounds like he got some some tests this past week and the Packers have not let you know had not at this point put out the information as to how long he's going to be out they may not have gotten the results back I'm not sure and so there's just a lot of things up in the air in this room because if AJ Dylan and Marshon Lloyd are both not going to be able to go week one then obviously the Packers can't just roll with Josh Jacobs so they're going to need to have someone else on this roster and so that's where makes this really interesting Emanuel Wilson started off this game he finished 11 carries for 52 yards averaging 4.7 yards a carry the biggest difference in this game from the last preseason game when you look at the the rushing attack was the Packers offensive line was actually getting some push in actually opening up holes for the running backs last week that wasn't really the case the Broncos did a really good job of stopping the Packers and really pushing the Packers uh offensive line around especially in the running game and today the Packers o line played really well you just look at the totals from all these running backs today 39 carries 193 yards 4.9 yards a carry so pretty much every running back here had a really good day but Emanuel Wilson to start off he's probably the guy who I think if Dylan was healthy would be competing for that second spot the Packers May favor Dylan a little bit more because of his experience because of his pass blocking ability but it seems like Emanuel Wilson is coming around in that area as well and so Emanuel Wilson Emanuel Wilson had a really good day um and so as I said it comes down to those injuries when it comes to I think Tuesday is the day the Packers will release their 53 man roster and the way I understand the NFL rules if you put a player on the IR before I think it's either before the season or before the 503 man roster then they have to stay on it for the whole year I'm pretty sure that's right um and so I know that you can do something where you finalize your 53 man roster and then you place a player on the IR and they only have to be on for four weeks so that could be something that happens with um AJ Dylan or Marshon Lloyd could it be both if they're both injured possibly because they're not going to release Marshon Lloyd he's a third round pick AJ Dylan maybe I mean they could release him I think it just depends and so that's going to be a thing to watch on Tuesday when the roster cutdowns happen depending on those injuries and so I think Emanuel Wilson you guys already know my my thoughts on Emanuel Wilson I think he's a really talented back I think he's a better Runner overall than AJ Dylan um we'll keep an eye on that but Nate MCC as well he came in probably as the third guy 11 carries 64 yards 5.8 yards per carry he looks really good he's a pretty strong running back you could tell there was one run where the defense you know was trying to make a tackle sort of trying to grab at his legs and he just you know kept moving his legs got through he's a pretty physical Strong Quick back he looks really good out there and Ellis Merryweather also had a really good day 16 carries 74 yards four point 4.6 yards a carry and I would honestly say those guys all looked really really good today there wasn't honestly one guy who looked Head and Shoulders over the other and so of course they're not all going to make the roster um the Packers will probably keep three running backs I would say and I would still say Emanuel Wilson has the the leg up on those other guys he took the first snaps he's definitely the guy competing for that potentially third running back spot but those other guys I mean if I maybe another team out there could pick him up um but those guys will probably end up on the practice squad those those guys further down like Mccreary and Merryweather so that's pretty much the running back position and then when it comes to receiver this is a spot that's not quite as complicated but there is a little bit of a battle here still of course we got the top receivers Watson dos Reed Wicks and then five through seven is where I think there's some competition Bo Melton had a good day today with that touchdown and he had one catch for 18 yards I don't know how long he was out there um but it may may not have been too long and so I think he's going to make the Ross as a fifth receiver and then it came down to Malik Heath or Grant dubos if the Packers were to only keep six receivers the first preseason game Duos had a a huge day um produced at the highest level for the for the receivers he I think it's still had some nice moments but um you know hasn't really today he didn't have any catches I don't think he was um sitting I'm just clarifying right now but uh he didn't have any catches today I can't remember if he was sitting or not but Malik Heath had a good day four receptions 39 yards a touchdown catch and so I don't know if the Packers will keep seven receivers it's just a lot of receivers to keep and so Malik Heath the past two weeks may have done enough to keep that six spot over dubos um but that's still debatable I would say because dubos is a very very good player um so that's going to be interesting and then now let's talk about the the kicker battle because this has obviously been one when we came into camp where we were wondering what's going to happen the Packers added Greg Joseph in this off season to compete with Anders Carlson the past week just looking at the different training camp reports it seemed that honors Carlson was sort of on a hot streak was playing really well in practice Greg Joseph had struggled a little bit it seemed like Carlson had sort of pushed himself ahead of Greg Joseph um but today they both started off pretty well they both made over 50 yard field goals Anders made a 54 y Greg Joseph made a 55 Y and it was like okay awesome the they're both playing great Greg Joseph finished two for two but then at the end of the game Anders Carlson has a 32 yard attempt and he completely I think it was wide right if I'm not mistaken but he just it wasn't even close he shanked a 32 Y and so at that point you know right before that I was thinking okay Anders probably has this job one he's been better than Greg Joseph he's been better in the past week or so and he is the Packers draft pick so you'd assume they'd lean towards keeping him if there's a similar Talent level I guess you could say and then he misses a 32 yard field goal and that's just something you can't have cuz I get you know if a guy misses a 48 y you you'd hope your guy can make it every time but still that's somewhat a tough kick but a 32 y That's I think that's just mental because these guys are talented players like they can they can kick it you know 50 60 yards and so to miss a 32 y it's something we saw from Carlson during the season last year he would just missed some extra points of course they're longer than they used to be but that just made things much more tricky I think if he would have made that kick he would have been the Packers kicker that's my my take but if you're Brian G and they showed him on the sideline a few times and you see Anders just miss a 32 y you probably go oh my goodness you know like what are we going to do here because I I my guess would be they were leaning towards Anders near the end um and when it comes to Greg Joseph it's like do they have more confidence than Joseph making a 32 yard than Anders cuz I mean I get if you're you're kicking 50 plus yard field goals and you have some concerns like okay hopefully we make this cuz the percentage of field goals made at 50 plus yards can't be crazy crazy high I know they're those are tough kicks to make especially sorry especially in big games depending on the weather um but that's going to make you really have to debate I still just think that this isn't a great position the Packers run a kicker neither guy really excites me and gives me a lot of confidence and so with that miss the Packers may have to go with Greg Joseph here um maybe they don't maybe they trust Carlson more but I think we saw a lot of inconsistency last year and if you're missing 32 yarders that gives me some concern so still some uncertainty they are going into roster cut down day now to the defense this was a very very good day by the Packers defense four for forc turnovers and that has been one thing that the Packers need to change this year they were one of the worst teams last year when it came to forcing turnovers only had seven interceptions last year which was second worst in the entire NFL and so I think that's an area where they're really going to improve it sounds like with the the way that Jeff Halley runs a defense much more aggressive we should see a lot more interceptions um and throughout this preseason Jeff Halley hasn't shown everything the announcers were talking about it like JN you know hle is not going to go out there and just sort of show all of his his looks and allow the Eagles and teams the Packers all fac in the first few weeks to get an idea for what he's going to do so it's been pretty simple coverages and so I don't think you can necessarily look at the defense and make a prediction based on what they're going to look like but to see four four turnovers was awesome this Packers defense was flying around they were playing really really good football you could tell that all these guys were playing for their jobs which they which they are in this game they're playing very very hard and so some of the biggest standouts biggest one today Aaron Mosby he had a sack and force fumble on one play just completely claw the quarterback he was about to return it himself but then Anthony Johnson Jr safety comes in sort of swoops it up scores a touchdown do they do a lambo leap that was awesome and then uh I think it was either the next series or one of the next series Aon Mosby drops back into coverage and and gets an interception and so that was awesome to see from him and he's been a guy that has had some noise throughout training camp making some nice plays and so he may be pushing for one of those final roster spots um after such a massive day today another guy who had a big day was Packers seventh round Corner Kaylin King he made a lot of really really big hits he's a guy who a year prior seemed like he may be a first round pick based on lots of draft experts Had a Bad final year in college dropped to the seventh round so there's a lot of upside there because of what he showed previously he had a tackle as well the force fumble on the same play was really nice some big hits so big day for him um he I think he could push through a roster spot and then the final two Christian Welch really really good day for Christian Welch um at linebacker had an interception was making some some big hits some big tackles I think he also could be a big special teams guy he definitely um I think he's going to make the roster and then Tyron Hopper Packers rookie from this year um I think he's going to be special in the long run now not sure how long it'll take before he gets becomes a packer starter I think it could happen eventually he's just so good versus The Run he plays with so much physicality and so much toughness and that's I think what you want to see you know from your linebackers going in there and getting tackles for losses and just plowing through the offensive line that's what he does he plays so tough and so physical and I think he's going to be a really really good player and then um that's actually sorry that's that's pretty much it for today those are my biggest takeaways we'll see on Tuesday what the the final roster is I'll probably try to get a video out predicting the final roster either today or tomorrow in the next few days before that all comes out um but that's pretty much the updates from today so we are now what 13 days away from the Packers season starting in Brazil which is going to be
