justice justice justice for every victim so you're not giving up on giving up I'm just getting started on the heels of Canada imposing new tariffs on Chinese made products the Chinese government now says it plans to launch an anti-dumping investigation into canola imports from Canada our par Hill correspondent Glenn McGregor is following the impact this could have on our exports billions of dollars in exports of Agriculture uh to China and particularly uh canola products which uh 90% of the Chinese market is supplied by Canada so this is big dollars we go back to remember last week when Justin Trudeau announced that Canada was going to follow the American example by putting 100% tariff on Chinese made EVS the idea here is that Chinese vehicles are effectively subsidized they use cheap labor they don't meet environmental standards or labor standards and therefore they can sell their EVS into the North American Market at a deep discount compared to the ones that are produced by you know the big the big auto manufacturers who are here and of course Canada has put in a lot of money into this sector $46 billion just in the last 6 months announced in subsidies for Ev makers and EV battery makers so they want to protect that market from the Chinese but the Chinese aren't happy they feel the unfair violation of World Trade Organization rules and they are starting this they call it an inquiry it's essentially the first step they have to hoop they have to look into it they have to talk to the producers and the the their domestic industry before they can essentially start their own tariff Pro uh uh process and retaliate on Canadian products so that retaliation as we said very likely to be on canola products because that's the something the Chinese have used in the past you remember the dispute over the two Michaels the two Canadians who were imprisoned in in China in retaliation for Canada arresting at the United States's request a Chinese Telecom executive that really ruined Canada Chinese relations for a long time obviously we're still not out of that so it looks like Malisa we are now heading towards another trade war with China and it's very likely that it's Canadian canola producers mostly in western Canada mostly in Saskatchewan mostly in Manitoba who are going to pay in order for the government to protect essentially an Eastern Canada industry that is the auto sector most of those new uh factories are going to be built in Ontario and in Quebec so it's kind of some Regional politics at play here there could be an out to all of this it may not get to the point where we actually have the World Trade Organization having to adjudicate this and that takes many many months be lots of back and forth filings by both countries so it's possible that this could be settled because our duties 100% duties were designed to match the US duties they are talking in the United States about possibly scaling those back a little bit maybe 100% is too high maybe they reduce the amount and think if they did Canada would be very quickly to match that lower tariff rate but for right now this is heading towards loggerheads here and it's very likely that Canada's agricultural sector is going to be very adversely affected by this uh kind of an ugly situation we'd hope you know only four or five years ago when prime minister Justin Trudeau went to Beijing met with XI Jin pay before any of the two Michaels business and was talking about Canada and China starting to negotiate a Free Trade Agreement would have been a massive agreement that never happened of course and now it looks like even though the two Micha situation has passed diplomats are trying to warm up the relationship between Canada and China a little bit not having a whole lot of success it looks like things are going to get very frosty uh very soon once again Edmonton Oilers fans celebrating Tuesday as fan favorite forward Leon dry idle extended his contract with the team the Oilers locked him into an 8-year $112 million contract beginning in 2025 making him the highest paid player in the NHL you know I take uh great pride in in in being an Oiler and um you know always uh his personal and professional life you know we've we've created friendships um over the last couple of years our wives fian girlfriends have created friendships um like forever lasting friendships um over the last couple years and that's really really special our our main priority is is to win of course that's you know you can ask Connor Darnell NJ himo everyone all the guys we all want to win um but I think what we've created off the ice is almost um you know almost just as important right people want to come here and when they do come it's hard for them to leave now um and I think we've created that over the last couple years and that's something that we're really really proud of um but the main priority is to win a Stanley Cup in Edmonton Bianca Millions city news and just make sure that Calgary's kids have lunch every day students are back in the classroom across the city of Calgary meaning families are spending more money on school supplies clothes and food for their children but with the increased cost of living more families are struggling to give their loved ones a proper meal on school days Brown beging for Calgary's kids a community driven charity here in Calgary is
