the pitch Taylor Ward leading things off and takes a strike kicks and fires swing and a miss and he was fooled well you got the hitter already chasing that nasty slider if you're on the mountain you just want to expand the zone right now get a swing and miss and get through this at bat the one two pcks and misses it's a strike out I got to think that was the plan all the way he set him up with a high fast ball and then bury that curveball down low to get him swinging now especially with how effective pitchers work up in the zone these days that's a devastating combination and the batter will be the short stop Zack Netto that catches the zone for a strike it's own and one [Music] this to third Clement fires over to First and a couple of quick outs let's take a look at our lineup getting Guys across the plate not exactly a forte for them this year as their offense is in the bottom third of the league in run scored Boog it becomes EX extremely frustrating and then what happens is guys press especially in run scoring opportunities and situations and on top of that I mean you really make it harder on your pitcher he feels like he's got to be perfect to go out there and win a ball game or at least to put the team in a position to win a ball game so they've got to figure out a way to relax get those Runners across when they have them on and especially when they're in scoring position he swings and fouls one off here's a one-1 foul ball there two down nobody on swing and a ball hit out towards left center field varo moving under it brings it in and that is that no score as we head to the bottom of the first back now in Toronto today's starting pitcher number 62 and singing We were talking earlier about how he's doing a great job navigating through tough spots I've just been so impressed with when it seems like there's more pressure he's more calm and settles in he's done an incredible job with runners in scoring position most guys they get a little tight they start to aim the baseball but for some reason he gets looser the ball comes out of his hand with more life and he's able to wiggle off the hook of you know tough situations and get his team back in the Dugout Ernie Clement now the Box comes up empty with a swing there and the rhander deals bounced out to short nto one up one down let's take a look at the lineup for the Blue Jays the challenge for him today singy elevating the baseball against this Sinker baller that's on the mound yeah that's the challenge but it also might affect the way they approach base running in this one boo you get a runner on first you anticipate trajectory down and when the ball's in the dirt with a good secondary lead you break for second so whether it's a stolen base or not you stay out of the double play get that runner in a scoring position and that can help you put more runs on the board b ball in dirt one down base is empty that one fouled off rolls into the corner makes the turn and heads for second and he starts his afternoon off right with a double I really like that swing man he didn't just push it the other way through the infield he drove it that way and it kind of makes me think he was thinking opposite field as he stepped into the box got a pitch he liked and he got it done one out runner at second Vladimir Guerrero Jr next up for the Blue Jays what a season it's been for him he has supplied a lot of power and that average swing in a Miss as he was out front that time next offering in there for a strike no balls two strikes [Applause] swing and a miss got him to go up the ladder for the K dominating strike out there on just three pitches and that's what a good power pitcher can do to you he's hitting his spots filling up the strike zone sometimes he bats over before it really begins so now it's the Four Hole hitter Spencer Horwitz he's someone that really beats up on right-handed pitching the lefties however give him a little bit more trouble in there at the knees that strike one bottom of the zone and a called strike perhaps not quite ready to hit first two pitches by him for a couple of strikes now back is against the walls going to have to figure something out and figure it out quickly man on second two down on the ground right side that's the third out one left for Toronto we played an inning no score and we're back new inning getting started so in now for the Angels Anthony randone Francis back to work they tried to get him to change on a slider down and away he was late there strike one Larry Bullard our umpire behind the plate Bo bullard's got a pretty standard Strike Zone sometimes they'll have you guess in a little bit but overall well respected umpire in the league got him to chase one above the Zone there how much were you aware of the Umpire Scouting Report or even who was going to be umpiring not a whole lot I mean there were a couple of umpires that weren't real good but outside of that you just kind of went into the game especially back when I was playing Matt th comes up to hit here ball one no strikes as the game has moved along we see more and more information supplied by teams about the umpires I've been in clubhouses where they have pictures of all four guys nicknames home towns and as well Hobbies listed just so you can kind of small talk the Umpire a little bit that's great hit hard on the ground to short two up two down two outs Bas is empty and here's the catcher Logan ohappy this lineup's going to have to find a way to make him work a little harder out there on the mound I mean he is just mowing him down he's settling in you got to make him uncomfortable maybe step out of the box call timeout do whatever it takes two outs so a foul ball makes it one and two and the pitch and they'll do it again no score here in the second liner base hit and that keeps the inning alive here's Joe Adell pitch misses and that's ball [Applause] one and he deals that's a strike and it's one and one two gone but the goal ahead Run is it first here at the top of the second and now one and two cuts and misses it's a strike out Angels leave one we'll go to the bottom of the second no score we head to the bottom of the second and stepping in the rookie left fielder number nine the pitch going one well the key to his success is getting ahead early in the count he cannot afford to go deep in the counts doesn't have a ton of swing and Miss stuff so he's going to have to work efficiently The one1 Ripped to Third and caught that at bat is a positive sign even though it probably doesn't feel like it he hit the ball hard but it doesn't always work out in your favor sometimes a Defender is there to make a play Leo Jimenez will hit next in there and it's own and one looks like he's just sizing him up there really good pitch to hit but he took it all the way sometimes guys just want to set there timing later on in the game that may be a Pitch that he turns on one down base is empty that misses the zone two and two it's a good take got him already two out here in the home half of inning number two and he'll be beating himself up on the way back to the Dugout got a pitch to hit and just couldn't get to it I think that slider really caught way more of the plate than it was supposed to and now the right fielder Addison barer that Clips the corner two down nobody on and a curve is down and in fast ball for a strike now one and two love how vocal the Umpire is today no doubt in the hitter's mind catcher mind and even the pitcher mind and as to the conviction in the call Two Out bace is empty swings through it and that's a strike out down in order go the Blue Jays we'll move to the third with no score back here at Rogers Center out to the third inning Brandon jury to the plate and here it comes up and in and that is ball one and that one a little bit High good hitters count the 2-0 fought off foul and the righty deals swings and misses that strike [Applause] two and that skips into dirt 3-2 now and a foul ball he stays alive here comes a pitch foul ball and it remains a full count [Music] gets a piece there we'll do it again well he's having a tough time getting a pitch by him as a hitter you feel pretty confident that you're seeing different pitches still able to make some type of contact Barker calls it in for the out and there's one [Applause] down now it's the rookie first baseman Nico kavadas dadas goes 6' one 235 lbs and they traded for him earlier this year and this guy is just filling up the strike zone right now don't want to get yourself in an 02 hole you better be ready to pull the trigger on the first pitch that Clips the corner wow just a beautiful back door slider right there if you got any chance of hitting that pitch you have to wait until the absolutely last millisecond just a tough pitch to hit and not an easy one to throw either well caught him looking on that fourth pitch of the adad and I have to think it had something to do with the sequence they threw at him kind of bounced back and forth between the outside and inside Corners with the previous pitches and that makes it really tough to cover the whole plate just couldn't get a swing off at that pitch on the inside now it's the Angels Lead off Man Taylor Ward swing and a line drive slicing into right field Barker makes the grab and that's the inning Angels go down one two three and we are still scoreless bottom of the inning and now for the Jays number 36 and the right hter back to work that one finds the corner and it's a and [Applause] one this one in the air center field and that'll fall for a base hit so a man on base to start the inning look I don't think that pitch would have been called to strike but he did such a nice job of pulling his hands tight to the body and just getting enough of the barrel on it to be hard enough back up the middle for a knock and next for Toronto Bryan cin good Defender he's been inconsistent offensively that's in there that's strike one right through there for a strike the two strikes may see some moov over there at first base trying to stay out of the double play right [Applause] here still TI at zero last to the third this one popped up foul ground first Bas side huls it in for the out [Music] now the third baseman Ernie Clement he's over one definitely wants to stay out of the double play here ball on the ground in the infield should be an inning ending double play in for a strike it's 0 and one man it first one away the kick in the pitch Runner goes that one in the dirt and gets away so a wild happy with the call there thought he caught the top of the zone and you could pretty much read his lips saying that's not all ripped to First caught oh baseball can be cruel can it I mean sometimes it gives and sometimes it takes away he did everything right on that swing but he's got nothing to show for it and now it's doton varo doubled in his first a right side tosses to First and that is that blue jays held in check and we're still kned at zero start of the fourth now the number two hitter Zack Neto the pitch that misses the Zone one and0 you know these angels just lacking discipline at the plate in this ball game they're chasing a lot of pitches outside the zone and those chases are turning into a bunch of outs can they turn that around and stay within the Zone we'll see but I think they have to that one misses and it's three and0 and there's the automatic the wine of the pitch fouls one away and now three and [Music] two popped up Horwitz settles underneath it and out number one anyone in this organization who's the best hitter in the lineup they would say him worm burner into the outfield for a knock man aboard on the leadoff [Applause] single just so sound in his mechanics hits against a firm front front side and the hands just continue to carry through the middle of the field now the Toronto Four Hole hitter Spencer Horwitz he's over one and that drops in for a strike [Applause] and now the count is [Applause] even swing and a highfly ball that one out towards left center field way back there long gone his ninth Homer of the year and that's how they take the lead it's two nothing listen to these fans this place is absolutely buzzing right now you can feel the energy all the way up here in our broadcast [Applause] Booth it's like he's playing whiffle ball up there and that's typically not the easiest way to hit a home run to the slight opposite field into the Gap man making it look easy that's for sure here's the left fielder that one finds the Zone going and one can be tough to bounce back after a big home run but nobody on nobody out you just have to treat it as a fresh inning nobody on nobody out we're here in the bottom of the fourth and a foul ball o and two now swings and misses struck him out well you rarely ever see three curveballs in a row because that's one of those pitches that's most effective when you haven't seen it recently you might see three Sliders in a row but right there he was feeling that curveball and figured he could finish with that [Applause] pitch and first offering is fouled off that one ripped Ward snags it for the second out man that's one of those at bats where you have to remind yourself it's about the process he did everything right right there nothing to show for it but in your mind you have to convince yourself that it was a very good at bat right side hard hit that's the inning the Jays get a pair on this Homer it's now a two nothing ball game back now in Toronto all set for the start of the inning now it's the DH for the Angels Matt th well after scoring runs this is where you're looking for that shutdown inning get that hot team back in there to swing the bats and that one fouled off you know these angels they're not going to be happy with the adats they've been having so far just one base runner to this point and it's not exactly early anymore they've got players in this lineup capable of sparking something but it just hasn't happened for them yet that one not close and the count one and two righty to the plate there's a swing and a drive that's back there and it's caught just in front of the wall Logan ohappy the next to hit for the angels and he's already singled in this game and that one is inside the Halos down by a pair and we're at the top of the fif out of line out towards Center Baro flashes the leather on the running [Applause] catch so two down now and here is Joe Adell he struck out swinging in his first at back and there's the strike the offense needs to start showing some fight against this starter he's doing his thing out there they're going to have to push back at some point and make him work a little bit harder and a curve misses outside well that's kind of what you expected an 02 count excellent job of the hitter to have the plate disciplin to lay off of that pitch and that's in the dirt two outs ripped on the ground to second sends it to First going to be righty delivers and down on strikes and that's the first out well that bat seem to be over as soon as it started three- pitch strike out you've got to be better at the plate right there at first batter right here and that's through there for a strike this doesn't seem to want to throw him a fast ball that's in there three and two now two down DOL on foul we'll see another payoff pitch it's so hard to slow yourself down when you see that juicy breaking ball but the most success happens when you try to take that right back up the middle approach this looks like extra bases around first heading for two and he'll pull in there with a standup double man at second here with two away and now Dalton varo one for two into the Outfield base hit coming home he scores and they lead by three couldn't have timed it up any better than that there's nothing cheap about the way he got that one through the infield that was ripped caught out in front and didn't get under it like he would have liked but definitely put a good swing on it Vladimir Guerrero Jr now up the middle they take the force out inning over but the RBI single pushes across a run it's now three nothing back here at Rogers Center start of the six John shami with Chris Singleton and leading off Brandon Drury Francis back to work tapped at the plate but it's a foul ball [Music] the 01 swinging a foul back that's really looks like these hitters have been in between with their timing today good fast ball excellent slider but they've not been able to commit to well got to pause on that thought as that'll do it lot of walk so the pressure is really on the batter to make something happen there's a strike 95 of that one action in the pen down there Hunter Strickland up and throwing coach chanowitz also [Music] throwing kick Sandos that misses and it's two and one and although you like the fact that the guy throws strikes guy gets contact and not always great contact the fact that when you have Runners on if that ball's in play there's still a good chance that a run gets pushed across whether it's earned or not Adele makes the grab one down maybe caught that one off the end just a little bit couldn't quite Barrel it up enough to really drive it now the left fielder three pitch strike out last time up got to put up more of a fight in this one that's down and in a slider missed command in the zone is such a crucial part of it right you know it's not just throwing strikes but it's throwing quality strikes and it's having quality misses as well what's a quality Miss Missing just off the plate rather than over the plate so a foul ball makes it one and two one down base is empty just off the inside corner two and two and another ball the Lefty fires sneaks through base head so a man aboard now with one away not much to this one other than just a willingness to go the other way and put the ball in play that's a team to fat right there nice job of staying back and letting the ball get deep and now they've got some speed on first so we'll see if they try to get him into motion man at first with one gone and now for the Jays Leo Jimenez to Second and he's [Applause] out right through short stop Zack nto changing speeds has this lineup completely off balance in this one we've seen a lot of mistime swings and it's been a challenge for these hitters to get their Rhythm Right movement in the Blue Jays Bullpen Ryan yarro appears to be getting ready and I'm sure he's feeling some nerves this would be his major league debut Q Cabrera getting cranked up as well up and in and the count is two and0 this pitcher has done a good job of disrupting the hitter's timing with the mix of pitches and changing speeds you want to keep that front foot inconsistent for the batter their swings are hesitant and that's exactly what you want on the mount and that's in for a [Applause] strike next stering is in the dirt expect for that guy to come right at you with a fast ball something in his Zone because he does not want to allow the lead off [Music] wall spoils the two strike pitch and he'll see another and he deals that's foul off to the right side side keeps the ab going stays [Music] alive right-hander kick steals swing and a miss had him out front for the strike out he's really good hitting the baseball the other way so credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch clearly he had him fooled Now Kevin po that one's upstairs ball one ball one one down base is empty he's clearly trying to work him away here both pitches off the plate if you really want to put the ball in play you're going to have to stay back and drive it to the opposite field and now two and one B is empty one away here in the top half of inning number seven good eye right there these first two hitters really making him work out there already 14 pitches this inning the L and the pitch Fly ball pretty well struck right field that one back and it hits the top of the wall not in time he's got a double well that was one of those high percentage Advantage counts where batting averages are just so much higher anytime you smoke a ball off the wall you kind of think about what it could have been but obviously you have to be happy with that [Applause] result here's Anthony randone up to the plate went down looking on three p pitches last time let's see if he can be a little more aggressive right [Applause] here polar leads off second with one gone in the inning the next offering misses and that's ball two struggled a little bit in this one couple of strikeouts earlier but doing a much better job in this bat to get ahead and find a good hitters count two and0 and that's off the Inside Edge and now 3 and0 that's in there well this guy on the Mountain's done a lot better than we would have expected and the hitters just don't seem to have the right game plan they're taking too many mistake pitches for C strikes runner at second here one [Music] gone 31 and he couldn't come up with it he's making things difficult for himself right now out there on the mound but you know his confidence should still be high enough to get out of this but he's going to have to buckle down right here manager out of the Dugout now and it looks like we'll see a change on the mound bin Francis out of the game only two hits allowed for him so a great effort and we'll be back after a quick break to tell you about the new arm Brendan little on the pitch here here and compared to a lot of other relievers strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year so the defense should be active first and second one out and next is the designated hitter Matt th it's been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position some guys just take it to another level for him right now at the plate it's like everyone else is in slow motion and he's in full speed it immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter well all eyes on the double play ball in this spot no better way to get out of this inning the tying run at the plate and fouled off the 02 knocks that one away and we do it again Runners at first and second with one gone swing and a miss that's a strike out slider got him for strike three wow just great bite to that slider broke hard out of the zone and he just couldn't hold up the swing you know as a hitter that pitch is really hard to take there's just not much you can do with it you know that but you don't want to get rung up by the Umpire so first and second with two outs Logan ohappy the next to hit for the Angels hard hit right side he takes it himself to the bag and that'll do it Angel strand a couple they Trail it here 3 nothing [Music] we're back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seven Hunter Strickland pretty tight game so they're looking for Quality pitches out of him right here got to do his best to keep the score right where it is and now for the Jays Addison [Applause] barer the pitch and ball one well these Blue Jays digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they're taking we've heard lots of loud noise coming from their bats in this one haven't we I mean they've lost six hits at 90 plus exit velocity and that doesn't happen by accident and he hits a ground ball right side tosses to First and one away in the bottom of the sevener now it's the second baseman struck out on just three pitches last time liner to Second and picked on the Hop and they get the out well you can see right there he looks very comfortable going to the backand nice diving stop gets up to complete the play that'll fire the team up for sure two outs Bas is empty Bryan Servin next up for the Blue Jays right through there for a [Applause] strike at the belt and fires that one out outside and that's ball walk one of the things about that two out walk the base runner over at first base is going to have a very aggressive secondary lead so a ball down the line or into the Gap will produce a two out RBI and those are the best that is if you are the off defensive side of it Clement stands in now looks at that one inside maybe losing command a little bit after the walk next pitch not even close two outs swinging a foul over the screen and back out of play right-handed reliever so a foul ball makes it one and two serving off of first with two away and a pop up right side foul territory he's got it and that is out number three one left for Toronto but they lead it 3 nothing welcome back and a new arm of the mound to start the eth Ryan yarro coming on to face ay here and he's been fantastic against him this year his numbers in those matchups are very [Applause] good Joe Adell digs in now the angels in Striking Distance but have some work to do boo it starts with the leadoff man need a good and bad out of him right here now the outside corner and it's O and one well it's critical right here that they bear down and turn in some quality at bats try to chip away at that lead because if it gets to the ninth that closer is coming in swing and a miss he was late strike two activity in the bullpen Avery pan up and loosening in the pen Nance getting loose as well [Music] the o02 BS it man is out here in the E well we saw solid effort out of their starter and the bullpen is following suit it's just a good day as a manager or as a pitching coach you can hand the ball off to multiple arms and get stability from all of their performances and next for the Angels Brandon Drury that one off the mark and that's ball one and a breaking ball drops in for a strike good eye in that spot the Halos trailing by three and we're in the top of the eighth next pitch is outside and here comes and it's Ball Four he missed down low it's tough after falling behind a hitter two balls and no strikes but now at least he gets a fresh start against a new batter but he needs to get back into the strike zone and start pitching with conviction kavadas batting with one down takes a [Applause] strike sh missed swing and a popup foul territory for the catcher Servin calls it in two away there's always a concern when running over towards the Dugout because of that on Deck Circle there's usually a bat a weighted bat a donut a pinear rag catchers have to be really heads up to avoid that stuff so in now for the Angels Taylor Ward first pitch doesn't find the Zone got to keep things airtight defensively right here on your toes ready to make a play if you can get this to the ninth with a three-run lead it should be a w Clips the corner and one and one [Applause] two outs bouns it off still one and two and the pitch [Applause] foul ball left side he'll see another The Pitch Out to short they get the force and that is the third out of the inning Angel strand one still down three nothing back now new pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth Matt more and they felt it was time to bring on a left-handed reliever from the pin with the Lefty hitter coming up I think it's a good move I know I never liked when opposing teams did that to me so digging in Dalton varo you talk about Elite defensive players especially in the middle of the diamond and this guy is at the top of the list out up the middle and that one handled and no throw he's into first easily it doesn't really matter where you are in the lineup your job is to get on base and try to start a rally if you're leading off an inning so an infield single does the job right there now we'll see if they can make something happen and first offering is fouled off Baro aboard here at first with even he features a four seam fast ball a curb a two seamer and he works in a change up swinging a miss and it's nothing in two that one 95 to finish him off well the first batter it's always a big one for the closer I mean you get that punch out you get settled in you feel like you're in command out there on the mound from the jump and kind of prevents any doubt from creeping into your mind or the fielders that are playing behind you that you know you're going to wrap this thing up polar stands in now and watches strike one right side hard hit over to First and a couple of quick outs couple of pitches and a quick out so so it's their last chance in this one and next for La Anthony randone that one finds the zone and that's strike one well so many hard throwing relievers in the game these days you would think that hitters have made the adjustment but I don't know if you ever get used to it just pumping gas out of the bullpen so hard to play catch up and a pitch ground ball and this should do it throw to first ball game and the blue jams claim the win here behind some great pitching in defense the ball for his first career save deserves to be on display at his house I mean it's kind of like when a restaurant frames its first dollar bill somewhere in a wall you just can't forget your first save a shut out in this one three nothing our final score for Chris Singleton and our ready to turn on the inside fast ball so direct to the pitch absolutely blasted out of this ballpark here's Kevin po it's been a tough stretch for him at the plate under the Mendoza Line so far this month swings and misses slider right there part of the order coming through now and with one home run already in this inning they're definitely looking to do some more damage there's the swing in a Miss I think he was a little excited there saw the fast ball but needed a step ladder to get to that one it's going to have to tighten it back up he wants to have a good at bat two runs across in the inning and we're just getting started here in the top of the first and another ball the only adjustment he needs to make is his Target if you aim at the outside corner that slider's going to end up way off the plate perhaps look a little more down the middle and you get it right where you want it that one misses and the Count's full righty to the plate on the ground to third that's a base hit if he can Elevate one I think if he does he'll get the swing and Miss couldn't catch up to the heater oh when you commit to throwing an inside fast ball to your glove side across the strike zone especially with two strikes if you're going to miss you want to miss off the plate in you do not want to leave it out over the heart of the plate so that was excellent execution on that pitch really the other way if you can swings and misses at the breaking ball in theer gets two it on to First that completes the strikeout and that'll do it this Homer cuts into Toronto's deficit and this is now a 2-1 ball game second inning set to go here's Joe Adell taken high in the draft he's had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform but at some point that starts to go away and you've got to produce at the big league level the pitch there's the strike up high and the count one and one James Kingsley are played umpire consistent and maybe a little generous on the already his Bat stays in the Zone on plane for an extended period of time and guys like that they have a high contact rate and they have more barrels because of that bat being on plane and even when you don't get it great it's still hit hard enough to dunk something in like that in front of the center [Applause] fielder the pitch swings through that one patus at Third Ward at first two out of the inning out towards right center field no trouble here puts it away for the out and that'll do it Angel strand a couple as they're unable to add to their 2-1 [Applause] lead bottom of the second and level are able to slow the game down whether it's in the batter's box or on defense and right there that was a good job of knowing just how much time he had we talk about that internal clock he was job staying up the Middle with his approach he didn't try to do too much with the pitch just shot it through the infield and now let's see if they force some action with good Wheels on the bases man up the middle and that one finds its way through the throw to Third and the throws offline safe at third couldn't get any air under it but he smoked that ball back up the middle timing was just perfect got great wood on it and there's just no chance for the infielders with how hard he hit it Vladimir Guerrero Jr next up for the Blue Jays we just might be talking about this at bat in our postgame rap he's proven he can drive in runs in these spots Clement on third Baro at first one gone and that is in for a strike and it's on just a really nice slider down and in there he wants to get strike out well clearly just anxious right there and understandably so in an 02 count you feel like you've got a lot of plate to cover and you don't want to strike out and you end up striking out that's just one of those pitches where it's not over the plate but because you committed to it as it was leave in his hand by the time you realized it wasn't going to be in the zone it's too late to hold up your swing th in the box with two gone and takes a look at a called strike breaking ball through there for a strike B he's gotten ahead with two pitches down in the zone he has plenty of options right here he can go up he can go away he can add velocity he can subtract got him looking and it's a three up three down inning nothing across here this half two three four set to hit in the bottom of the ninth Angels five and the Blue Jays two we're back and on the mound is the closer and Joyce save opportunity for him right here and he's their guy time to lock this one down and get out you feel like you're in command out there on the mound from the jump and kind of prevents any doubt from creeping into your mind or the fielders that are playing behind you that you know you're going
