Ollie Dempsey Press Conference | Round 2

Ole congratulations um I'm guessing Saturday night couldn't have gone any better when you get that opportunity could it no it was Unreal it was a great experience and to to be uh the first game in front of the new Sam was was Unreal experience and honor for me so it was it was amazing when you get the little word that you got the rising star nod what's your reaction oh it was Scotty said it in the meeting it was uh it was a funny way of saying it but it was um no it was a really cool experience um being told that in front of all the boys and um yeah and seven games coming into this season what would what did you work on over preseason to ensure that come selection for round one that odmc was in the in the 23 I just put I put a bit of size over the uh over the offseason and make sure my running was still strong attribute of mine and um I think that was the main things and just keep keep ticking away and doing the same things I've been doing for the last couple years and it's sort of just paying off now which is which is nice any of the coaching staff that you've worked closely with to to develop your game to get to the point where you know you were First Choice round one yeah Nigel Lam's been a good one over the last couple years and then obviously James Raleigh coming in this year is um forwards coach and both those guys together has been so good for me like that's just um two great coaches of the game and um I've learned so much for both them so let say those two you really like flying at the footy have you got a license to to jump at it yeah I think I do now which is nice and uh Scotty lets me yeah sort of fight fight the marks and I think that's a big part of my game big strength of mine so hopefully I can uh yeah keep flying at those and just want me to compete bring it to ground or or mark it heading into 2024 did you set yourself some goals that you you wanted to achieve individually yeah I definitely did I I I said I just wanted to play regularly and um hopefully I can still do that and um just sort of that's what my offseason and preseason was based around and just being a regular in the AFL side and um I think I've started off all right and hopefully I can keep keep that up a couple of your teammates had a bit of fun after the game saying they didn't think Patty could make distance um what were your thoughts as he was lining up for that shot at goal I was S I was right next to him and I was like there's no way this is going was like everyone set up get middle they going to go down the middle but um that just came back perfectly and to skip his goal so it was it was meant to be I guess we've touched on the crab at 39 and half thousand were the best part of here for the over J woodst tell us about being you know on the ground and the noise that came from now being an enclosed Stadium yeah it was so cool it was um it was that loud like especially when Patty Ki that goal that was loudest i' ever heard um and being a part of that was um so cool I was having so much fun out there it was honestly just the best time so I'm I'm blessed to be out there um three goals 15 disposals it's not going to happen like that every week but how do you work to keep yourself in the game when it maybe not working for you yeah I think defensively defensive pressure sort of in the forward line I think we we talk about what about that as a forward group as our Smalls and I think that's another thing if it's not it's not always going to be working like that and um if it's not just you s you do those 1 percenters and the adds up and do the team thing and and that would probably be it just running up and down the ground and putting on pressure you probably haven't thought about this but the other be observe was going there's a Ford line with Hawkins Cameron uh OE Henry Tyson stangle all have kick 40 plus goals in a season in their career and you're besting them on in the goal kicking tally does that when you think of it like that you go that's interesting oh yeah when you think about like that it's pretty cool but um hopefully I can keep it up but no it's it's it's such a good for line to be a part of like I think it's the best in the league and to be part of that now is is so cool and um especially having the two big guys down there it's h yeah it's it's sick Adela Friday night looking forward to the interstate trip you debuted Interstate but you haven't made too many Interstate games so far in your career yeah no it'll be so cool we travel up tomorrow so um it'll be it'll be good fun down at La oille and they'll have a good crowd there and we know that but um hopefully we can defate their Crowd by by playing well and um I think if we play a brand it'll be be a good game for us the coach has been talking you up as Scotty not mat Nicks but he's probably aware of you now mat Nicks are you bracing for a bit more attention um oh we we got such a good team and I'm sure everyone gets attention in the forward line it's probably I'm probably lucky to be such a be a part of such a good uh forward line so I probably won't get that much attention but um yeah I'll just play my game and and see how it goes and play with confidence and and play the team way third year at the cats how have you settled into the jalong region what have you been able to find around town I suppose when you want to De press from foot to keep yourself entertained I'm living at T with saming so I love it down there I wouldn't say I come too much into jalong but um when I'm down there I love getting to the beach and and surfing and and just swimming there which is it's been the best so I've I've been lucky enough to be yeah down there which is so good much discussion about a lot of blonde hair with headbands in the J side has that been talked about yeah it does get talked about it always I feel like the commentators talk about it every game which is funny and um especially this week it's been talked about a lot um and living with Sam always doing a lot with him we always get everyone's like oh you guys are brothers and stuff like that which is funny but um no there's a lot of us are blond but we love it have you got the uh the highlights out this week from the game if you just got see watching us going how you do it in the forward line only been off that one goal in the Grand Final I haven't yet um no he's he's so good for us down back and he's probably got more highights to show me so I won't tell him about that yet OE congratulations on the rising star well done thank you appreciate it thank
