Despite the terrific record, the Milwaukee Brewers have a pitching problem

yeah a move made by manager Pat Murphy backfired against him in Monday night's game I'm not going to worry about it too much Brewers got bigger problems with all their pitchers dropping left and right the shows are Monday through Friday Monday through Friday after games so I drop them overnight and they're there for you the next morning now for Sunday's game I'll drop that Sunday night on YouTube 10:30 on Sunday nights uh and then I'll drop the audio version early Monday morning right around 3 or 4:00 in the morning but they're there 5 days a week for you talking Brewers baseball with you but Sunday night you get your first look at Monday's podcast uh like a TV show 10:30 we pre premiere on a on a Sunday night so the Brewer offense was non-existent uh against Jones that's a goodlooking pitcher for the Pirates yeah he's tough um but the Brewers let's face it outside of Saturday the offense has been pretty much non-existent for the Brewers as of late you know it's kind of showing some shades of yester year with the Brewers offense so yeah the Brewers lost 4-2 um get a home run from Hoskins uh in the sixth inning Pat Murphy pull Joe Ross out of this game uh and I'm gonna look at this as a classic you know over managing sort of thing and all these guys do it too and he he thought Ross he was not comfortable with Ross he was not he thought Ross's pitches were flatting out a little bit took him out of the game and you know air uh by Bowers over at first base that leads to some runs two runs single and before you know it that four one1 tie becomes 4-1 and that's it right there now have the Brewers uh rallied like they did on Saturday when they're down 42 you know maybe we're not talking about Murphy but we shouldn't be talking about him anyway you know this is the the first time really I could think that where he made uh a decision where he selected a and it should have been B or B should have been a but who knows maybe Ross gives up those runs as well he thought Ross was flattening out a little bit now Ross looked fine to me but he took Ross out of this game and I don't look at it that that you know sure he gave four runs um or they gave three runs in that inning but you know Ross I thought pitched pitched his brains out I thought he pitched great I thought he looked great better than I expected that's a couple times now Ross has look pretty good uh do I want to be able to count on him just yet long term uh well I don't have any choice at this point because there so many pitchers that are going down for the Brewers we're going to get to that but my goodness um that the the pitching is just unbelievably um injured right now and it's just you know boggles my mind um but yeah Murphy said that Ross kind of flattened out a little bit and you know yes scor runs you know more than two runs to win this game they had The Bases Loaded in the eighth inning against RIS Chapman uh Chapman got in there start walking guys uh and had he stayed in the game uh we'd still be playing that game the rulers would have scored 143 runs in the eighth inning uh because Chapman could not find home plate and I'm like oh man they're gonna gift us this win the Pirates are gonna go all pirate on us and you know be the Pirates and and and and give us this Victory um but then they brought a reliever in and Round Up brought in a run and they got the final out in the inning and that was that right there but uh RIS Chapman tried to hand us that game walking three batters after getting the first batter out in the inning but uh yeah I thought man are we gonna steal one here wasn't the case no big deal hey 14 and seven I'll still take it at this point and they move on to H game two of the series Wednesday in Pittsburgh Chuck Freeman here on lock on Brewers part lock on podcast Network we are your team every day early Tuesday morning everybody here in the great state of Wisconsin out on the East Coast if you're catching us um yeah the Brewers did lose the game four to two move on and as of right now we don't know who's pitching it was supposed to be Wade Miley on Tuesday but Wade Miley is now on the injured list and you know he's got more issues um and he's going to go back on the injured list we knew that going in when you have a 38 year old pitcher that you're signing as a free agent you know you you got to be able to count on everybody in you're starting rotation but they accounted for Miley to throw get 30 starts 30 to 33 starts I think it was this year they signed him with the intention of he was going to be one of their upper half guys in the starting rotation and I thought that was a mistake right from the from the start you know I mean unless you're signing Nolan Ryan at 39 or 38 you know a guy who's as durable as that but Wade Miley showed he's got a little bit of history there injuries and they were counting on him to and this is not Miley's fault I just think the Brewers you know they they saw Miley cheap that Miley was good for them in the two different times he's here in Milwaukee and they went for it and they had nobody else to choose from they had nowhere else to turn they turned the Wade Miley and they got burned they got burned because of not Wade Miley being bad but because of the injuries now so you got him on the injured list and that is a big big deal uh because here's another guy in your rotation that you're missing you got him uh Gasser is going through he's going to make it start rehabbing very soon here down at Triple A A junis who you had in your rotation to start the season now he was doing some working out in the Outfield and he got hit with a baded ball today in Pittsburgh in the neck and had to be taken to the hospital so even guys who are rehabbing from injuries are getting hurt in other ways DL Hall of course went down earlier this week uh you can't call up Ashby because he's been terrible I would love to see mizerowski but he's not ready yet he still got to find the plate do a little better job finding the plate looked great the spring training but the Miz is not ready just yet so here's their rotation right now the Brewer starting rotation is Freddy Peralta who is scheduled to go Wednesday I believe Colin Ray who pitched terrific on Sunday and Ross who did the job on Monday night until they took him out of the game but you have nobody else you have tbas you have guys you're going have to you're going have to go to the waiver wire I'm I'm speaking like a team that's seven and 14 and not 14 and seven I'm telling you guys I'm really worried about this I'm really worried about this because there's nobody there's nobody at Triple A right now who's ready or good enough to pitch at the major league level Okay so yeah if this was a wasted season if they were the Miami Marlins okay okay if they're the Oakland A's who you know literally don't have a home right now I'd say okay if they were the bad Colorado Rockies who are going nowhere okay but the breweries at 14 and seven are going places I think they have a really good fundamentally sound team but man Peralta Ray and Ross if you would have told me going into the off season when this season ended miserably against the Arizona Diamondbacks that I'd be staring at Peralta Ray and Ross as my three starters a guy who hasn't pitched since 20 uh 21 uh in Ross Ray who was a spot starter last year came up when you know there was nobody else to really to call up and did a hell of a job and Peralta uh Peralta who was bumped up from the three to the number one guy and it's pitched like a number one guy and I know some of you guys are asking me on Twitter gez Chuck you know you said that Peralta wasn't an ace we've seen this out of Freddy before great great spurts okay I don't think if I'm wrong I'm wrong but we we'll find out the the proof will be in how he is okay um I remember when Jeff suan I was I was against the Jeff suan four years 40 million I was dead against it he came up and I think he won his first four starts everybody coming against me on the radio oh you were wrong about Jeff suan man he's been great and we know how Jeff suan so let things play out a little see I like to let things play out a little bit you know I like to let things play out a bit uh I like to see how things go and and what direction they go before I jump in the pool too quickly because I've always found out and I've been burned by this jump in the pool too quickly you get burned on something and yeah sometimes you can't help yourself but I want to see peral so far so good at number one spot and you know what he's going to have to continue pitching like an ace to be that man in this rotation who's going to come up every five days or so and give them a solid start lot expecting out of Freddy in that number one spot um but Ray and Ross and who who the heck knows who else will hopefully get some more answers but all these guys on the injured bowkus I mean who's not a starter but out of the bullpen he's he's another guy who is hurt um but gosh it's just just weird how going into spring training you had all these injuries for these guys I you had let me take that back going into spring training you lost Corbin Burns and and Woodruff injured you knew you weren't going to have him this year but you had a lot of guys who you know you you were unsure of in this rotation you didn't even know who your starting rotation was going into Camp you knew who a couple of guys were but you didn't think Judas was going to make the rotation you didn't know what they were going to do with Hall you know Miley you know initially he wasn't part of the plan and then he came back and after um you know the mutual agreement wasn't agreed upon he came back and he signed a deal with the Brewers but you know he almost didn't have Miley but as it turns out you know you didn't expect Miley to be at the top of this rotation like he is and obviously you can't count on him because of his injury history now so hopefully this gets settled I don't know how I I don't have any more answers I don't know because one by one guys are getting knocked off it's amazing how in one year how this bull this the starting rotation was so great the starting rotation was so great and now um you know you get rid of burns Woodruff gets hurt Freddy up to number one and you're relying on some guys you're hoping improve are going to go out there and do the job like Ross did so Bryce Wilson's going to suck up some Innings it sounds like in one of these games uh maybe Thursday we'll see Bryce Wilson make a spot start and see what he could do he's going to have to he was great last Wednesday in that one- nothing shut out of the Padre's he was one of five pitchers who who were really really good so you know going to have to C on Bryce Wilson good thing they stretched about in spring training they had something in mind there I guess um but yeah man hang in there man the starting rotation get the Freddy on Wednesday he's schedule to start Wednesday but who's starting as of this podcast is we're dropping right now after the game I have no idea um and that is a that's a bad feeling to situation Jason says really no surprise with Miley although it sucks Todd says Trevor Bower is available Trevor bow will get mentioned every day on probably about 16 17 different markets that have baseball teams Ryan says Miley's A din dinosaur so I almost expected this with him Gary says I'd be more worried if it were middle relievers going down starters only go five or four Innings anyway not a big factor anymore excuse me uh G I disagree man you need your starters to go six Innings you can't have your starters go four or five innings anymore you can't Bullpen your way to game after game after game after game Wisconsin sports team says a rotation is Peralta Ray Ross and then TBD Daran D jarden says at this point of Wade's career he can't be relied on pitching more than 10 starts he's always injured yeah I mean I thought more than 10 starts I think more than 10 we'll see how that shapes up but so far you know it's off to a rocky injury start for Wade Miley Robin says you know I asked the other day when somebody took a no hitter Odell Jones who passed away the other day took a no hitter into the ninth inning for the Brewers back in 1988 passed away I said God I remember last some time somebody took a no hitter into the ninth inning other than then the burns combined no hitter and then the AIS no hitter in ' 87 Robin says 1981 February 5th in Minnesota Jim Slayton took a no hitter into the ninth up five nothing two consecutive hits and then a three-run Homer made it 5-3 fingers came in for the save Robert said he was 15 and I was nervous uh well you know what I don't remember that 1981 that was a split season that was a strike season they played two halves of the season because there was a strike right in the middle of summer early June to the beginning of August so they played a split season That season uh they had a first half winner and a second half division winner and then they played each other to see who was going to go further in the playoffs but Jim Slayton H took a no hitter in the ninth I did not know that um uh Sam says I don't know what options we have free agent Market is not good I'll say uh gas are still hurt I guess Ashby will join this rotation soon Bryce Wilson too yep uh plus money again oh Logan says plus money again yeah the Brewers were like a plus 140 on Monday how can I grab that I mean grabbed the I grabbed the plus 150 on Sunday against the card you gotta keep riding them out I know the pitching it looks bleak you don't even in fact there's not even a line for them on Tuesday because Brewers don't know who the or haven't um named their starting pitcher but man time the Brewers get plus money I always feel you need to be on that um but we'll see where they are I would probably guess it's probably about a a pick them either way no matter who the Brewers p through out on the mount on Tuesday although Monday they were plus 140 they were a plus 140 against Jones uh let's see any more comments here um Ben says Ray continues to amaze me he's no threat to no throw a no hitter um but he keeps us in games okay I agree um couple of Cardinal fans wrote me told me our team the Brewers Expos the Cardinals as a fraud the Cardinals came back and won on Monday night two run home run in the ninth inning but I don't think the Cardinals are a fraud Cardinals just weren't scoring even before the Brewers got there um whale says would the Cardinals take Mitchell weamer and a high pick for Sun gray we need that guy and always like this character cardos ain't trading Sunny gray and if you're G to get if let's say the Cardinals are out of it the Cardinals and Brewers are not going to hook up on a trade if you're gonna have trade somebody okay if you don't want I I take it well you don't want to trade Joey weamer because you don't want Joey weamer anymore you're tired of him if we think he's got holes in his swing you ain't getting sunny gray for Joey weamer and Garrett Mitchell I don't know what the stock is on him right now because he's hurt it's going to be interesting when he comes back in late may but these things always seem to find themselves panning out and Perkins is playing so well and there was a piece done in the journal SEL about how much that uh Murphy likes him in center field and has become a big fan has done a 180 because he said when he first saw Perkins he didn't think Perkins really I I want to say had high effort out there um so Murphy was not a big fan initially but then after being around him watching the way Perkins does operate lowkey guy now he loves him couldn't do without him and he says he can't take him out of the lineup and I agree all right game two another 540 start central time coming up on Tuesday and of course we'll be on little later on the night droing an episode let's get this pitching fixed I I don't know just the way they're going to fix this pitching is to get guys healthy that's what's going to take it guys are going to have to get healthy you have nobody to turn to okay and I hear the Trevor Bower stuff I get you uh there's nobody out there they're not making really any trades none no team is making a trade right now because everybody still believes they're in it well there might be some teams obviously like the Marlins and all that but you know I don't think those teams are going to make any trades all and certainly nobody in this division is selling anything to the Milwaukee Brewers at this point the Cardinals aren't dealing Sunny gray um all right that's gonna do it Chuck Freeman here on lockon Brewers part of
