Trending searches: is christian mccaffrey playing tonight
the spirit of the segment alive here. Gentlemen We've been dancing around it talking about the ripple effects. But let's go right to that run game Pete CMC out. Mason going to be carrying the load there. But it feels like we've become so accustomed to Christian McCaffrey being the bell cow back in San Francisco not long ago running back by committee. And that committee usually succeeded across the board in this run scheme. How does the run scheme change now with no McCaffrey, do you think Kyle Shanahan is going to try and get to some different thing? You know, by the way, you mentioned run by committee with the 40 niners. Let's go even further back and run by committee with pop pop mike Shanahan back in the days in Denver. Remember guys like Mike Anderson Olandis Gary, they ran all over the place. It didn't matter who the back was. Sure, Terrell Davis was better than everybody else. And he had really big time success. But they always ran the football. Same here. Christian McCaffrey is the best guy and he'll run the ball even more and even better. But they can run the ball with Jordan Mason. My concern here is the interior of the offensive line. They're not great inside. You know Trent Williams is dominant. But inside you're going to start a rookie. And he's the rookie moving from tackle where he played in college inside the right guard. And you're matched up against Quinnen Williams. And that guy is a beast. The Jets were the best in yards per play last year. I don't see a real fall off. So if the 49 ers want to run the ball they better get better blocking inside from their inside three than what they got last year. It's going to be a real challenge against the Jets. You know when you look at what Jordan Mason is now tasked with you do wonder about his effectiveness. Pete I think you're exactly right. Because while the 49 ers may want to establish the run, how effective they will be remains anyone's best guess. Now from a gambling standpoint, it's always interesting to see how oddsmakers scramble when new information starts to enter the equation. And when we look at Christian McCaffrey, his overunder for total rushing and receiving yards today started at one 16.5. That number had trended down to 109 and a half. So if you take a look at that the 49 ers now essentially have to figure out where they're going to get 100 additional yards from this offense to be successful. Jordan Mason, widely available at 11.5 rushing yards early in the day. His carry number is now 11.5. Not just his rushing yards. So I think it's all hands on deck. And the creativity of Kyle Shanahan will really be tested. And if you do have those first 15 to 25 plays scripted, let's see exactly what he had in store. As Pete alluded to at the top when we were breaking down this side of the ball, Jordan Mason doesn't provide that same upside as a receiver, but I don't think they can abandon the run game completely, even if it's three yards. And a cloud of dust forced the Jets to at least show they can stop the run. Because if you don't, you just try and throw into the teeth of this defense. It will not be a recipe for success. For San Francisco from start to finish. That
