The Cleveland Browns possibly shopping Dorian Thompson-Robinson

according to Zach Jackson of the athletic the Cleveland Browns have pursued talks with multiple teams with the possibility of trading quarterback jorian Thompson Robinson I've got some thoughts you're Zach does fantastic work uh at a practice pretty much every day get a lot of great nuggets a lot of great information certainly from from Zach Jackson um from Zach and this was early afternoon today probably uh before practice started uh Zach spoke and put out a piece talking about how you know as the Browns are trying to manipulate their way and it is one week from today where the Cleveland Browns will have to get from 90 to 53 that's a large large task to you know squash the dreams and hopes of 37 people in the NFL and it's going to happen 32 times uh next Tuesday but Zach reports that the Browns have had conversations with multiple teams about the possibility of maybe moving quarterback Dorian Thompson Robinson I've got some thoughts first thought that maybe comes to mind is the Browns maybe are willing to pursue the possibility of having to go with only two quarterbacks on the week one is there is no way they can release of course Dorian Thompson Robinson with the hopes of getting back to the practice squad I don't think there's any chance whatsoever so maybe they can go that route with Tyler Huntley maybe um but and the reason you would think maybe the Browns are only going to go two quarterbacks or would want to even think about it is the offensive line situation um carrying one F offensive lineman until you've had you know Concklin and Jed Wills um all contribute all play before you have the confidence to drop that lineman and then if you so choose bring back a third quarterback to the 53 man roster so you know I I I I don't like that scenario I gotta be honest and you know I think of you know what I've seen of Dorian Thompson Robinson to this point last year and this year um I think for what you were talking about for A3 quarterback draft choice which DTR was I think you're seeing everything I think you'd hope to see this point um you know he's not going to be the starter for this team at least anytime soon as we all know this team has a starting quarterback um but you can certainly understand what the amount of injuries that Cleveland Browns currently are dealing with them possibly you know entertaining the idea that maybe they need to just have two quarterbacks on the 53 man roster until you know the team shows that it is healthy or the team has more confidence in certain guys who you know the have not been able to return to the practice field just yet the Jed wises of the world certainly the Jack honin of the world etc etc we all know the names as far as that is going uh another thought could be is you know the Browns um drafted DTR and this was certainly after um you know they had made you know other moves to the quarterback position last year um as we all know DTR played a little bit DTR got hurt in the Houston game even at that point though they had already brought in Joe Flaco and given that you know basically the team to him to finish the 2023 season um you know it was just just a tough spot it was a team with a lot of pressure it was a team that had legit playoff aspirations and I think they didn't want to turn it over at the time to a day three rookie understandably so and it worked out well DTR got hurt um as Joe was playing well it worked out Joe DA got to the playoff we all know the rest um but you know now you sign jamus Winston in the off season part of that was because DTR you know the hip injury was a little bit more serious than I think people knew or you know wanted to you know give lift service too um DTR as we all know and without seen is made a full recovery to this point but the Browns you know committing that money to jamus Winston maybe their thought process is is you know if they just don't maybe have time to fully develop DTR to become their full-time backup quarterback if you have jamus Winston here you have DeShaun Watson here what's left for DTR to do as far as you know improving himself progressing his game getting better that's a tough spot for a kid to be in certainly so it could be another thought that the Browns are possibly having in that regards if they have James you know be jamus um if you go to DTR not a lot of teams have a lot of faith in anything when it comes down here the third quarterback to Brown not a lot of teams do as clevand Browns did last season we all know that so that's a couple of ways certainly you know to look at it that way another one could be you know the Browns you know have a lot more draft assets next year um they you know they could be looking to be maybe reset the clock and maybe draft a quarterback next year and the draft even higher than you know when they drafted DTR so that's another possibility to look at get for what Cleveland is doing here as far as entertaining thoughts for DTR what is he worth I guess he's probably worth right around what what he was when he was drafted a fifth round pick um you know are you looking and I've seen a lot of this say a lot of people oh well you know they have the offensive line issues that I don't think DTR is going to bring you back a you know a solution to what the browns offensive line issues are right now and look they might not be issues Jed Wills Jack honley could be ready to go week one I don't know you know nobody knows um but those oh you just move them and you first off there's not offensive linemen that are really ready to go who are available by trade it just doesn't work that way um and I don't think DTR has enough of a resume to bring you back a viable offensive line solution even if it's for a short term or long term um so you know I'm not buying any of that from you know people are trying to give me that certainly on social media um but you know for DTR you know there's two ways to look at this a it's nice that there's NFL teams that have seen what you've done like the way of progressing and certainly like the work ethic that you're putting out on a daily basis um it's certainly difficult when you're a guy who's been with the team now for two years with the team have drafted you he that there's a possibility that you know they could be moving on from you um you know certainly not what anybody wants to hear um I think DTR truly likes it here I love the selection of DTR I love DTR through the draft process once we got deeper and deeper in his time at UCLA really really like the player that he was while he was in college um you know do I think think that you know come this time next year DTR is you know the be all end all to be the Browns backup quarterback I don't know because he's just probably not going to get the time to prove it at least to us you know how much do we see from practice right um and you know could be running a scout team I you know I I don't know but you know moving DTR for me doesn't make a ton of sense um I would understand it if I saw the reward and I accepted the reward I was good with the reward um but if you're talking DTR Tyler Huntley I'm keeping DTR let's keep that path going the kid has worked hard the kid has improved uh I don't want to see DTR go but I understand everything in the NFL is a business we will continue on your latest lockdown BRS appreciate it for being along as to what that possibly could be um we're you know like I said A week away uh Final Cut Down um G be some guys this week you know I don't know how much the reps are going to be for the guys battling for uh playing time you know with the game uh Saturday night in Seattle um Kevin stansky basically says he thinks all the starters are going to see it a little bit of playing time I'm still waiting to get final word on deshun Watson um you know everybody real quick about the deshun thing um look Germaine oriti is not the worst option you could have as a starting left tackle in a preseason game um so if you want to go out and maybe get desan a series I think he can pull it off I think he can um so you know I I get and everybody's you know concerned and God forbid something happens and deshaun's backtrack from you know his recovery you know I I get all that I do and yes everyone knows I've said a million times over nothing matters but September 8th um but I think it you know you'd want to get you know some live reps out there for you know deshun Watson certainly um you know certainly could hurt right and you know for the receivers and everybody just you know one quick round even if it's a drive get five six plays even you don't score whatever just get something on paper get that confidence going tenfold as you go into what is going to a big big season certainly for the Cleveland Browns um with one week to go you know some stock up questions here stock up we're do here stock down so far some guys and their potential and rolls for the 2024 Cleveland Browns um everybody knows I was not the biggest you know fan of the Dante Foreman signing um there were other running backs I had obviously pinpointed out I had certainly pinpointed out a million running backs within the draft atheltic leand Browns uh certainly could you know make do with you know still miss the audri estim miss you um but Dante Foreman after getting See's first live action last Saturday um you know we're not going to grade anybody on the running of the ball because the offensive line just didn't really give it much to work with um but you know what Foreman was able to do as a receiver and that really impressed me um because I love the fact that you know when you're bring in guys on the field there's basically going to be a no tell and you know Dante Foreman in what was limited action certainly uh you know five receptions almost 50 yards um showed good wiggle you see there's more burst than Dante Foreman's body right now than there was in Kareem hunts last year so anybody's trying to bring back Kareem again um you see the reason that they you know kind of chose Dante Foreman over Kareem hunt um you know so he's really you know in my opinion put in a you know a spot here where you know I don't think anybody in the running back room is necessarily going to be considered a heavy contributor that only person would be Nick chub when he does eventually return um I'm still waiting to see nahem Hines certainly um we'll see where the role is for certainly a guy like Pierre strong it you know but it's got to keep in mind it's are these who's making it if Hines comes off you know his list you know that's a roster spot it's going to cost somebody a roster spot but you know I can see you know a nice working relationship certainly between Dante foreman and certainly between Jerome Ford you can find a way to mix in a guy like nahem Hines and you know the running back room as much as I did have my you know concerns about it you shape that all up knowing at some point you're going to a chub back that is not a terrible running back room by Eddie mean whatsoever Jamar thrash um you know the rookie you know two straight pretty solid um showings in both preseason games um you know with starters maybe playing a little bit more this week we'll see where exactly a role would be for Jamari Saturday night Seattle um but you got to like what you see and certainly that one you know was Saturday against Minnesota you where got you basically broke two tackles got outside picked up a big first down um and I said it a couple shows back and you in that number 80s kind of got a little wiggle kind of looks like you know a little bit like a quicker quicker uh certainly Jarvis Landry but you know uh really really good to see for Jamari Thrash as you know he is probably solidified a roster spot with this team no questions about it Z you're MIT Peyton um look you hold know where I stand on the tight ends the everyday do um I've been begging for one gotta be Jes since March March now so well over five months um but Mitchell Peyton and even Gio Richie didn't look terrible but Mitchell Peyton you know looks the part obviously the role he would play would not be a large role um so you know I would say you know after his performance last Saturday you know there's probably a chance he can make this team as the number three tight end um talking with several people around the organization within the organization rap about the guy's work ethic um and you can see it he's you know I mean you can just see it in his physic I mean in his you know physical makeup guy puts in a lot of effort really really tries to improve himself so you know for Zer mitell Peyton y maybe this is the year maybe this is the chance maybe this is the opportunity he can crack and finally make this Browns 50 three man roster uh Zack Center um I really like what I'm seeing thus far um and look again when he's on the field he's probably the best offensive Leman on the field um you know our first look whatever we're going to see Zack Zer is most likely going to be a situation where Zack Zer goes on the field and maybe is the fifth best member of his offensive line um but you see everything um you know the pass Pro is good um The Run blocking is still work in progress as you know this unit is trying to get acclimated to new system you know uh different ball carriers there's a lot going there um but I certainly see what the you know the the appeal was with a player like Zack Center why the Browns were highly interested and why the Browns did end up finally making the move to bring in Zach CER uh cedra Tillman um it's really really and again I I'm not sure why he didn't play last week why he didn't play Saturday against Minnesota it was a guy who really could have used because he hasn't done much in the games you know what I'm saying and it's great that you're doing well in practice you're making a lot of plays and you know Cedric Tilman might be the most improved offensive player in training camp this year um but there's just something about doing it when it's the opponent it's something about doing it in front of you know 60 60 70,000 people it's something about doing it in front of officials you know TV cameras all of that and I really think you know Cedric Tilman could have used that opportunity um could have maybe had you know maybe good good chance of making that happen last Saturday against Minnesota Vikings hopefully they'll get that chance this week certainly against um of course uh the Seattle Seahawks um so it's been some impressive things to this point you know as far as stock up stock down of course all these guys that I'm talking about are certainly on the offensive side of the ball uh some defensive guys I think Devon Bush do really look good to this point uh I think dwan Briggs plays active he's a player that you know I don't know if the Browns are going to have time to invest into but certainly there uh Mamud diabate is the guy I just like I think there is a real simple chance you simple chance that he makes this roster this year and maybe finds his way to contribute a little more within the pace base defense he's got the size he's got the athleticism uh really good tackler uh mmud diate is is a linebacker for somebody in the NFL so if you know Cleveland doesn't want to see him playing somewhere or else and most likely having to play him against him in 2024 2025 uh the Browns should make a smart move and probably keep Mamud diabate on that roster um we'll continue to watch you know the way it works out for the you know backup safeties after the top three um you know I I feel bad for a guy like the Anthony Bell but other guys have gotten out there and got an opportunity to show themselves so you know certainly things you know to continue to monitor here as the Browns you know practice on Wednesday real light one Thursday pack everything up fly make the long flight out to Seattle to get ready to go Saturday quarterback DTR whether it be for a pick whether it be for a player whether it be for roster flexibility whether it's for resetting the clock on a rookie contract next year in April certainly a lot of aspects to look into this um but for DTR me right now I want to keep the kid in the mix like I said we did some stock up that means we certainly got to do some stock down seaka all right first things first he's on the ground way too much way too much um and look we we know seaka wasn't brought for pass rush he wasn't drafted for pass rush he was BR brought in you know drafted because of possible run defense ability to Anchor a defensive line and it's still not there's it's not even a question of you know if it's getting there it's still not there um I'm not sure if it's even any better than it was last year but I mean he finds his foot footwork is bad um kind of almost Tangles up his own feet ends up and then the other thing is he gets you know Head Over Heels so the head is out way too far as the as the body weight leans forward you know basically next thing you know feet in the ice and the next thing you know you see number 62 on the ground um with we know who the top four defensive tackles are Mike Hall situation um you know don't know where it is but Mike hle is obviously a guy that's most likely going to make this roster um unless we you know we'll just leave it at that I guess um Jaan Briggs I would keep in a heartbeat over I would before I would keep seaka I would probably entertain taking somebody off the waiver wire before I would entertain keeping seak eeka so you know this could be a pick that does not work out does not work out at all for the Browns they got nothing from Zak as a rookie um it's not getting any better here in training camp here in year two um it could be a swing and a miss on you know what was a you know pretty high pick a pretty high investment for seaka um but one of the things about you know missing on a pick is you know basically not throwing good money after bad and so throwing good money after are bad in this situation with seak would be keeping him on the roster because maybe you still think there is something there but would could cost you a player like a Jaan Briggs could cost you a player like Maurice Hurst um if you understand it's not working and you feel that the potential is really really high that you you know badly misplayed this draft choice best thing to do is as opposed to gardening it nurturing it no you understand it was a mistake you got it wrong and you just move on at the end of the day um but I don't know how seaka makes his 53 I wouldn't even be surprised if the Browns were even that interested in trying to get seaka back on the practice one he returned to practice today um and I've always liked Tony Fields I have I really have um I thought Tony Fields has been a guy that's not gotten his number called enough you know over the last couple of years like he didn't truly get to play until there was an injury with Anthony Walker the injuries with c takitaki um and Tony Fields was a guy basically who never got the opportunity until somebody else went down and they had no choice but to give tony Fields an opportunity ironically enough so far did return to practice today though um Tony Fields this has kind of been the situation for him this Summer last deal of his rookie deal drafted in the same draft class of course as Jeremiah Wu cororo been in running mates in that locker room now for three seasons going into four um but now all of a sudden Tony Fields has been the guy on the outside looking in here for a little bit and you know tough for him um and as I mentioned Devin Bush as I mentioned mmud as I mentioned Nathaniel Blu Watson um it becomes a tough spot for Tony Fields you know there's definitely been impact from Tony Fields two years ago in Houston basically deserved in my opinion defensive player of the week you know honors for all the accolades that he got in that one single game in Houston against the Texans um we all remember the big touchdown off the you know miles gar strip stack in the end zone in Indianapolis last year um but Tony Fields is probably gonna play a lot on Saturday when he does play will truly be indicative of you know what Tony Fields chances are if Tony Fields doesn't play in the first half Saturday in Seattle you're probably a little nervous for Tony Fields um because then maybe he's just playing to play out the string so to speak um but for Tony Fields you know the guy who always had a wait for his opportunity due to injury you know right now his roster spot could be in Jeopardy due to his own injury and I kind of hate it because I've kind of been a Tony Fields guy for the time he's been here um DeAnthony Bell and again very similar certainly to Tony fields we ra really saw the Anthony Bell play much on the defensive side of the ball been a really good special teamer for two years with the Cleveland Browns um but now you know last year all the injuries at the safety position you got down to safety four you got down to safety five these guys played and played you know a lot of refs and you saw the kind of player DeAnthony was Bell was really close to the line of scrimmage type of safety um you know willing tackler physical tackler um you know certainly had the Hail Mary interceptions of course against the Chicago Bears you know I mean I'm sorry yeah a big one obviously to clinch that ball game but you're talking about a guy who's going to be 28 years old in October so it's not like he's young and you know it's not like we said oh well De Anthony bill got out there played a little bit last year da and here we're talking about a 22 year old kid no he's 27 um so you know you have the kid from San Jose State um you Ronnie Hickman here as well so it's a real real tough spot I kind of hate it for a guy like the Anthony Bell because you don't know how much more chance there is you know he came into the league as a very older player um already two years in this would be year three and it'll be 28 in October so you know not a you know huge huge opportunity but you know and the other thing is and I've talked about this a little bit on a couple other spots I've done here you know you don't know where everybody oh there's a core special teams player does that term even exist right now how are you a core special teams player because basically the vast majority of special teams play in the NFL is now changing um and it's drastically changing so I don't think anybody has a leg up on anybody else as far as special teams play or special teams ability so a lot of this could come down to what can you do for me just as a pure athlete right now and unfortunately that is a spot sadly where a guy like the Anthony Bell does fall a little bit short um but you know these are some guys here certainly you know on the defensive side of the ball that may be in a tad bit of trouble Michael Dunn in my opinion could be one of these guys in the spots as well has done nothing all summer um Zach Center could go step in tomorrow be their swing guard left right probably would take to it like a fish to water um I think they really really are infatuated with JV and Cohen and would like to continue the working relationship with JV and and there could be a chance where if they release jvon Cohen there could be a team that comes in and Scoops him or there could be a team that comes in and offers him a sweeter spot on there practice squad then the Browns would not be willing to go so certainly Michael dun's name is one to watch here over the days to come um you know so you last week you certainly want to finish strong if you're any one of these guys of the Browns 90 man roster currently um but you understand you know the Turk is coming you know the the Bell is going too toll for someone 37 someone's a week from today on Tuesday so Browns are going to get back they are going to have a rest day they're going to get into a couple of things and then all of a sudden it's going to be did I make the first 53 or not am I wanted on the practice squad am I on the phone with my agency where my next opportunity is so there's certainly a lot that is going to be going going on here over the next certainly uh seven to eight days here Cleveland Browns wise and certainly as far as getting this roster to that final 53 so once again DTR uh mentioned in trade talks with several clubs Browns could be gauging the field Browns could be looking for you know offensive line help Browns could be saying hey we got jamus we'll reset the developmental rookie quarterback clock next year um in April a lot of factors going on there we did some stock up we did
