do a show last week uh we talk like via text and and DM but uh how are you feeling right now man with the season uh upon us uh it starts Monday what what are your thoughts man well first of all again good morning I know we briefly chatted uh it's always good to see you hopefully your son everything went well last weekend as far as getting him situated in college and school again congrats on that he's doing good grandma dropped him off for us and as soon as he pulled up uh his name's Cal so as soon as he pulled up some girl was on the balcony hey Cal that's what that's what grandma said so I imagine he's doing good I imagine he's doing good that's perfect man you know I know he was happy to hear that yeah hey Cal yeah he's a goodlooking kid man if I would have had his looks as as a young man it would have been over with because you know I did all right even looking like this but if I look like that kid with that head of hair six4 man would have been trouble um but anyways yeah oh God I missed those days I remember being at not game and uh you know when school season started football season and school started was just great you know cuz all the girls were looking so good I can't say anything else since I'm married now but uh yeah so happy to hear that man yeah real quick I gave out five memberships this morning to somebody this a new feature YouTube lets me do it 10 10 per let's get back to it how do you feel about the season man it's it's happening man I'm so happy about this season let me let me get into this stuff but first let me say what's up to the chat how yall we needed ba and Trent it's just that just that simple you know there's no one in the receiver room that can do what ba does except for ba you know he gets all those re he got 75 receptions that's the most of any receiver last year nearly 1400 yards that's ridiculous he almost led the n fell in uh yards per reception and yeah we would all like to see his TD numbers go up but hey he's he's literally like he said the fourth option on on the offense you know because to me it goes CMC CMC uh Debo kiddo and then BA Plus ba is your natural man beater you know I don't care what anyone says you go back you watch the 22 my brother now he wasn't open every play but he put his man on some some skis and Skates um plenty of times so I'm happy he's back and he's happy because he got Market Rank and lastly Trent Williams I don't care what anyone says yes I would have preferred for us to have drafted a tackle we'll get into that in a second we just saw one play the other day right yeah we both W it yeah man I'm excited it's a lot going on new season like you know there's a lot of offseason turmoil even up until yesterday I'm going to be honest I I do want to talk to you about that actually let me let me answer a couple of these super questions I want to ask you about this uh specific question gtc's thanks for the membership Rono yes sir didn't you used to be a member though like didn't you used to already have a membership GTC um um I don't know bro I don't know uh Andre wants to know what we thought of the game last night I only caught the fourth quarter I was out shopping got me a new this is the Yankee I don't know if you can tell this is the Yanke blue hat but I got SF I'm a big fan of that Yankee hat I'm a big hat guy I'm a big fan of that Yankee hat but if I can have the same hat with SF on it that's that's W so it's my new favorite hat but looks smooth I only saw the end of the game The Last fourth quarter and to me it would looked like week one football in Brazil type stuff so it's hard to judge these teams off of that did you watch the game I did I watched uh I didn't watch the very first quarter because I was on route home but I say this man you want to get into this right now yeah yeah go ahead man yeah let's go I want to talk to you I want to hear what you got to say you know first of all the game last night to answer this question I think they both have really questionable defenses especially in the secondary you know I I just saw both teams able to throw when the quarterback and that's another subject some bad decisions defense right yeah yeah sorry bad decisions in their throws last night but I don't know what the hell they were doing they not good yeah yeah and and I think that's the thing Ryan I think that for me Herz he probably has issues either processing or pulling a trigger because I don't know if he's just looking not necessarily to run a lot but he just looks impatient and uncomfortable at times and and you can just see it when like the play players breaking down and he may not have any pressure in front of him but he's just not pulling the trigger and I saw a couple players where some receivers were open they have Dynamic receivers so but he connected on some but he's just inconsistent and then of course love I don't know if you saw that one interception I think it was fourth quarter or at least third quarter I mean he just was lofing the ball up and I'm like God come on you he looked like he did in our divisional playoff game last year so uh I'm not worried about those two teams you know GR you're right Ryan it was the first game of the week and it was uh on a crappy Turf but I think love is in particular I think he's still learning how to be an NFL quarterback and I think Herz is who he is you know he's he has he's up and down with Herz and uh I think if we can we can rattle him so I'm not worried about those two teams I'm worried about other teams in NFC and I'm definitely worried about two teams we saw play Thursday in the AFC yeah what are your thoughts on those well you know Patrick Mahomes uh I think people need to realize that Chiefs team the the number ones didn't play all preseason is my understanding is that right is that that's what I was told what well no uh Mahomes played a little but not a lot I mean he you know he was out there but not a lot not a lot all right well either way man they looked scary I'm G be real the Chiefs look pretty damn scary that defensive line looks ridiculous Xavier worth looks why did some they messed up they let Patrick Mahomes get Xavier worthy man and then rasid rice if he doesn't do time in jail he he's gonna have a hell of a season so I I mean the Chiefs look pretty damn good so not we'll we'll know what kind of team we have when we play the Chiefs you know I do think a lot of what we saw yesterday is traveling to Brazil playing on a shitty Turf week one um so I'm not going to ride either of these teams off however Jordan love injury I guess it's not looks like may not be as MCL ACL I'm not sure but there's still some he did look injured so we'll see what happens with that but I mean if I'm being real neither team looks scary at this point now they could get better but we also don't know what the Niners are going to look like on Monday we got to see what they're going to look like right so that's the other thing brother um excuse me Dave barklay says two of my favorite people out there love you guys love you too Dave I had the pleasure of meeting I had the pleasure of meeting Dave barklay I'm a pretty tall guy I'm like I think I was 63 at one point I don't know if I am anymore I'm more like let get myself 6'2 and a half at this point um but in my Prime 6'3 um but DAV is in my Prim Dave is a a tall dude man for sure a second um I'm gonna try usually I tell everyone not to not to bet on a million different things but we're gonna actually do that right now we're gonna bet on as many as the underdog will allow um but my question is this game coming up Monday Jets vers 49ers how are you feeling about this game specifically well I feel much better knowing that Hassan reic won't suit up that to me is a little unnerving considering what he did to Brock in that uh first NFC Championship game that Brocks basically his first year here right um so I'm very happy that he's out I think without constant pressure on our o line and getting back to Trent Trent back in the full granted you know he hasn't had a full off seon or much of an offseason at all but um I think having his wisdom and knowledge on the line to at least help protect P's Blind Side gives me way much confidence than what I had uh prior to those you know the Trent uh resigning as well as ba also with ba I feel happy that you know ba to me is like PR's like okay his security blanket or his go-to man throughout the whole season except for the off season so uh the pro excuse me the playoffs in the Super Bowl in particular so I'm very happy I think we're gonna win this game and I don't think maybe this is a little bit of the Homer in me Ryan but I don't think it's gonna be all that close even with the good defenses I am a little nervous about our run defense though I'll say that yeah I originally predicted a pretty low-scoring game I said 1916 so I'm going to stick with my prediction um but the more I think about it I feel like the Niners going to score a lot more than that so my prediction is probably off I do think the Niners win the just got to travel all the way across country uh and we're going to talk to the doc later on but I mean hunga might actually be playing I also want to find out about like CMC and the um possibilities of of of what his injury can mean um so I'm excited for this game but I guess we need to find out what the fans think before we do that um we do have Logan and in the chat but before we do that um I loaded this up here's what we're GNA do man I'm gonna go I don't know how many they let me bet a-rod's going to be a little gun heavy I think he's going to try to feed Garrett Wilson and if Garrett Wilson's going to get followed by All Pro Ward I think it's gonna be I like our chances you know know how you move all right cool I'm going with that dude so I think we probably should put a little bit of a more more focus on Allan Lazard as well um I think s Gardner versus whoever is gonna be a dang good matchup I love me some DBS um but I honestly think that Mooney and Deo are GNA be locking stuff down I I I think it's going to be a problem for those receivers to get open they they think everything gonna be smooth and easy but we got the whole front there um I do believe that Collins is starting next to hardgrave um and then you got the book ends with Bosa and uh Floyd and yeah playing week one are you surprised to hear that that's a possib ability and what do you think about Huff coming back not by any stretch I've heard that Huff was going to come back for a while and I heard he should be ready for week one but what I will say is that's fantastic for me that's my favorite player on the team right now I love Huff I love his energy um I got a real strong connection to to the Samoan and Tongan people just from growing up in LA and growing up with a lot of them man like they're good people they good you know my you know my wife is half Samo right oh that's beautiful that's wife my wife's have S all her is from Long Beach samo's from Long Beach yeah yeah and I know a bunch of chances are I probably know some of your wife's family because believe me when I say I'm going to have to shoulder some of this load I'm pretty sure those two young boys are gonna go out there and say we got you coach don't even worry about it we'll make a prediction for you Deion Isaac for you on four different players really it's Ricky purol CMC huff and Greenlaw let's let's start with Ricky how obviously this is a remarkable thing that he was able to get through without very like it's just kind of crazy like you're a doctor how rare is this to get shot where he was shot and walk away the way he's walked away I mean it's extremely rare I mean it's it's pretty remarkable you know whenever anyone gets shot in the chest obviously you worry about heart lungs all those organs and then if you are lucky to have the bullet miss those spots the fact that it didn't break a bone there wasn't any kind of major joint damage I mean it it's it's like a you know very rarely will this ever happen and for him to live and be talking about playing football it's pretty crazy so um glad most importantly that he's alive and you know he'll be back on the football field but extremely extremely rare like gunshots here just end lives that you know you're not talking about playing football again so pretty remarkable and um you know very L for him to be to be alive and and talking about getting back to play I must not understand the anatomy of of the human body enough because I don't see how you get shot there not and not like I guess I just don't know how the body's built because not a bro nothing wrong with the bone or anything like that's insane to me I it doesn't make sense yeah you know there you know if you get the right angle and it just gets muscle I mean honestly it's literally like this bullets like avoiding everything kind of making its own little path So based on the reports I mean no you know no structural damage I mean obviously there's going to be muscle damage where the bullet comes in and out but honestly if you're not damaging any tendons or ligaments and it's just purely muscle damage um then honestly it's about getting muscle strength back and and having the wounds heal um from a physical standpoint so pretty remarkable yeah and brother Bob says thank you for your time doc truly appreciate it yeah absolutely we do so based on what's happened to Ricky and super fortunate but there is some muscle damage right and tissue damage from like skin at least what does the recovery time look like for a Ricky pisol what obviously there's mental things that are much you know could be much more serious than what he's going to have to deal with physically at this point but from a physical standpoint when do you see him being able to play football again yeah so typically you know assuming like we said that there's no other damage that they're not talking about I mean usually the first week or two you really want to get that the bullet wound to heal and one of the things they talked about I think Ricky said he's like I can't really work up a sweat for the next week um because typically with gunshot wounds for the most part what you're doing is you let them kind of stay open and close up on their own because any infection or any kind of debris you want to kind of have the body kind of release that out so usually you're waiting about a week or two for that happening and once those are healed and typically assuming that there's not anything else it's just like a regular muscle strain you're waiting four to five weeks to kind of get that strength back um get the mobility back and then get them back on the field and as you mentioned I think the more unpredictable factor is how's the mental part of this going to be you know when you get impact to that area you feel pain in that area are you going to be willing to kind of go through the middle and take shot uh from another player I think that's really the key thing that we don't know um but if you're just looking at the physical part and it's four to six weeks which is pretty crazy that we're going from San Francisco General Hospital to thinking about week five with him playing yeah and then he got out the next day which is insane um so I mean the 49ers put placed him on puff so he can come back technically for week five which would be about six or so weeks from the incident so it's reasonable to assume that it's a possibility that we see Ricky piol against the Cardinals at home in week five yeah absolutely and I think one of the you one of the good things about kind of potentially where those wounds are is that your shoulder pads can cover the area you know obviously if it's in a more exposed area you do worry about the impact but um it's an area that can be protected um it's not near any of the joints so from a from a receiver standpoint um he should be able to play you know if he's able to get back and get over the kind of mental aspects of it and there's nothing else of the 49ers AR reporting that was injured so uh yeah just once again just crazy that yeah week five you're see back out there and you know when he comes out there I can just imagine the emotion of the team uh seeing him step out on the field yeah what a what a story I mean obviously one that he would like not to have but um now that it's happened he's got a hell of a story he's going to motivate this whole team I would imagine uh so yeah we could see Ricky piol as soon as uh he's ready to go as possibly as soon as the Cardinals game um and hopefully that you know he's taking care of his mental uh side as well uh one of the big ones I wanted to ask you about is Christian mcaffry because he has this you know was labeled a calf strain early on in the preseason and then we they told us Achilles calf something uh I don't know what it was tightness I guess the biggest question and the biggest worry for a lot of 49 fans and really the main reason I wanted to have you on because we've heard that like this type of injury could be a sign that an ailles is on the way and that's scary for 49er fans and I'm sure for Christian are these things related is that a worry for you with Christian mcaffry I think in general just because that those Capal muscles to kind of do kind of going in and become the Achilles tendon we do see people who have chronic Capal issues um they typically are a little bit more at risk for having an Achilles injury because what ends up happening is that muscle isn't strong enough and then the Achilles has to overwork and that's where you kind of get that big injury that pop that no one wants to have I think the good thing for Christian is that number one it doesn't sound like he's had chronic cap issues in his past obviously he's had hamstrings he have ankle issues with Carol Ina but for the most part there hasn't really been a history of major cap injuries so that's number one I think number two is the fact that they got this early in training camp and you got a good four weeks off I think where you get into trouble is when these injuries happen in season you know theoretically you can't miss four weeks during the middle of the season because you typically do feel pretty good after a week or two you get back out there but what happens is that athletes start breaking that cap down by trying to play with it in season and that's where you worry about the Achilles issues you know patient you know they're basically playing with pain and the Achilles goes and and that's a big deal the fact that it happened early they gave him more time than they typically would during the season um and he hasn't had these injuries I'm not super concerned about it but if you do see like say week four week five that cap starts bothering them again or you start seeing this kind of be an issue during the season then you do definitely get worried about it but right now not super worried about it I know Kyle Shanahan said it's a calf SL Achilles it probably was the same injury all along I think it was just kind of how they were describing it to fans uh more recently but not surprised that a cap issue could also cause Achilles pain um but once again something to watch during the season but not overly concerned right now based on how they've handled it I will say this Doc and I'm not I'm not I'm 99% sure I got to remember if um you know this is just off memory but I'm pretty sure he had calf issues at towards the end of last season it didn't stop him from playing but I think there was some soreness reported so if that if that is true I I'll double check but if that is true does that give you more concern if you if that then I would be a little bit more concerned particularly for you know it being a recurring issue and the fact that potentially it lingered um so yeah once again you do you do worry about that then and obviously um you we've seen that with Kevin Durant with the Warriors a calf issue leads to an Achilles issue I know uh with green law they're talking about he had some achilles tendonitis before you know injured his Achilles so uh once again yeah definitely at the explosive position then if that was the case then then the concern level does rise a little bit um but they played it safe right now by not having playing training camp so that's that's a good if if that's the case let's say that that he did have soreness last year and then he has some now still like let's say he's going into game one and he has calf soreness or tightness whatever they're calling it if he's filling that is the smart thing to just not play him at all and let that totally go away in order to avoid Serious injury absolutely yeah no I think anytime of players if you have that soreness in that area you especially early on in the season the best thing would be to rest him you know either rest him or even drastically decrease the workload because um you know maybe not game one but I think week two they're playing on Turf um and then you worry about that a lot because we do know that you know Turf we all know the acl's all those other injuries that happen but you are putting more pressure on your calf on Turf so if there are soreness you know I think field surface would also play a role about whether they would rest him let's say he gets through week one um he's a little bit sore week two on Turf might be the best thing to rest him yeah and if that's a case I I really hope they do if he if he is filling that because really what we need for long term um and if that is the case last question regards to CMC but if that is the case that he has this soreness and you know rest will make that go away and there's a good chance it won't come back or is this something that you would worry about coming back I think in general um you know usually if you rest it for someone his size you you don't worry about it coming back like if you just give it the time to rest um where you worry about it is in bigger players there's just more Force across that Achilles um you know more unpredictability so I think with him given his size um I think as long as they were to rest it and let it get better you don't necessarily see it become a chronic issue you still young enough for it not now if you get in your mid-30s then you start worrying about there being kind of chronic changes in that area but all of it's about rest you know like you just have to make sure you're not giving him a big workload and we all know in his career when he's had that big workload with the potentially the exception of last season is when those injuries have popped up so definitely managing it throughout the season would be key yeah something about Achilles something about 40-year-old men when they play basketball at the rec center 40-year-old Men playing basketball that's an Achilles disaster waiting to happen I've seen it so many times I don't know what it is so if you're 40 and you're playing pickup basketball please be careful don't go to the rack so hard just stay outside choose jumpers um I swear I've seen doc like because I used to run this basketball league out whenever they try to go to the rack it's that that first step trying to go to the rack try to get be explosive I've seen probably like four of them I don't know what it is about that age yeah well I think we still think we can uh we can still play like we're 20 but our bodies won't do it you don't see it at 50 because you're like yeah I can't do this anymore but it's that thinking your body can do something it physically can't anymore yeah uh let's talk Huff um hufanga there's a chance he might play on Monday uh one of the weird things about last season it was not a lot of people have spoken about we haven't got a lot of clarity on but it was reported that Huff early off in the season had some kind of cyst in his knee um I forget what Baker cyst I want to say is what they called it I don't know that's correct but there was something in his knee and the option was to play with it uh and it might affect him a little bit throughout the season or have surgery and the season would have been ended early last year before this ACL are those two things related like if he would have taken care of this would that have prevented his injury or are these two separate uh incidents have n do with each other I think they're connected in the sense that if an athlete has you know a cyst and sometime those cysts can just develop from muscle overuse or sometimes you can get assist um because there's a small meniscus tear and fluid kind of builds up I mean I think it's hard because a lot of times if a player is compensating because of that injury um then you do worry that because of that injury did it change the way he was running or did he feel pain and then kind of then twist his knee so um I think anytime an athlete has an injury on that same side or anywhere else in their lower extremity you do worry about if there's some sort of compensation that's happen happening um so yeah you do you do worry about that they're not directly related that that cyst then caus the ACL tear but you worry about how it's more mechanically impacting them um does that change the way they they run and jump so it could absolutely have been something completely separate but anytime particularly in a football player where you have a knee issue um you do worry about is that knee not as strong because you're trying to compensate for that injury and then anytime if there was a miniscus tear or something else in there is a knee already a little bit compromised and does that lead you down the pathway of then kind of caring something more yeah and I know you've dealt with the meniscus because you helped me guide my my my son through it so yeah you know a lot about this uh also ATT track star like like my kids my my two oldest kids um long jump right is that what you did long and triple jump yeah yeah exactly yeah I remember man yeah appreciate that yeah I think my my one of my they both do long and High um yeah and I think my second son is g to be doing uh sprinting also so anyways um Huffs might come back Monday based on his timeline of when he had surgery till Monday is that a typical time frame and do you expect Huff to be 100% and able to play based on on that so typically you're looking right around for most acl's nine months is the time frame when we kind of get athletes back we know that structurally everything internally is healed and then where the variability really comes is you know how do people respond once they start doing that live game work they're you know they're doing stuff in training Gap they're you know kind of taking live hits so it's absolutely physically reasonable for him to be playing on Monday I think the thing we don't know is how confident is he feeling is his knee getting some soreness is there a little bit of swelling um does he have that confidence with cutting and Agility so absolutely from a functional standpoint he could do it it's just a matter of how he feels if we do look at NFL players coming off in ACL it really is their second season back um where they get to 100% because you just need a full season of playing football to get that confidence get your running right so could we see him back out there and maybe have a little bit of decrease for performance yeah that's totally normal it's only 10 11 months off his ACL surgery um it'll probably get better as a season goes on um but absolutely reasonable as long as he's feeling well for him to be back out on the field and playing potentially in a little bit more limited role just because of the fact he hasn't played football in a while but um yeah I think we can potentially see him out there if he's feeling all right that's great yeah he is definitely like uh someone else said earlier in the show he's one of my one of my favorite players on this team so I'm I'm pulling for him good very good person um okay last last qu well actually real quick before I move on to green light harison how do you compare cmc's CF to KD in 2019 I think you did a little but how would you do do you compare them at all as their comparison yeah I I think anytime you know you know whenever there is that cap injury you especially in an explosive athlete you know you do worry about is that going to basically then lead to an Achilles I think the difference with Durant and this is where the training camp versus in season was was you know they gave him a couple weeks off but they were in this playoff run so potentially he came back sooner because you know where they were in the season so then you worry about potentially was there still some soreness did he get back on that court and that led to the Achilles because of where you are I think with macaffer we have the benefit of number one is that he took a lot of time off in the training camp it's early in the season number two is that with football I mean they have so many weapons right now so it could potentially he take a little bit more time off and you you give Debo some more repsy you have Brandon back um you've got KD so there's potentially more ability to manage that load with the team KD it was like you got five people on the court and he's the main you know main player out there with step so um I think definitely a little bit different circumstan and hopefully the scenario of early in the season and more people to share the load will make cmc's injury a little bit less likely to lead to that injury that Katie had how confident are you in I don't want to I don't know I want to word this correctly because I know you're doctor and I don't want you're not a content creator but how um are are you concerned at all about CMC if he feels fine if they play him are you concerned if he doesn't feel fun are you are you concerned about him for the season at all in regards to this injury yeah I I think the one thing we know about him is that he from all the reports is that he takes care of his body he's very you know big on training understanding where he is so I think that as long as he's good about you know letting the training staff know about what he's feeling as an explosive athlete then I'm not worried about it you know with these kind of injuries as long as you're noticing when you have soreness how you're feeling if you're not performing well and the training staff can adapt to it not worried at all it's a long season you can manage it and and kind of get these injuries um you know not leading to an Achilles because you know honestly the V majority of these don't lead do an Achilles you know it's the rare case so I think um cap strains are common not all of them lead to Achilles and for someone who really takes care of his body and knows about it and is explosive athlete and the training staff will look over it I'm not super worried about it um if it was later in the season and you know you're trying to you know it's a playoff game or it's the Super Bowl and you got soreness yeah you get a little bit more worried but I think we got a lot of time uh to manage this and um he's got a lot of people that can share the load so not super concerned about it right now that's good good to hear uh last one green law supposed to be recovering from from his Achilles speaking of Achilles um he's on the pup list he'll be back by he he can come back as soon as week five based on his timeline playing in the Super Bowl in February um nine months later I guess that would put him in November is which is um a little past the the four game that were you know the four game waiting period uh what do you what do you see for green law and coming back and what's realistic yeah you know I think everyone after you know hearing about Aaron Rogers everyone's like oh you can be back at three four months after an Achilles I think in general still even with new techniques and how we're rehabbing people six months is still kind of the earliest at which people get back so he's kind of past that six-month Mark um and I think just like with an ACL um you know it's really where people come back it's right somewhere between that six to n month Mark um it's a little bit harder at his position because there is more unpredictability it's much more explosive um you're running cutting so for him it may not necessarily be the physical part of it but it's you know people who tear their Achilles are like I just don't feel the same explosiveness my timing's off how I respond uh to the you know offensive players coming at me so realistically when we see him back to like potentially looking like himself it could be more nine-month Mark but could he potentially come back week five week six absolutely from a structural standpoint um the Achilles is healed at this point it's just that you have to get all that strength back just like with an ACL but um you generally see players alten Achilles kind of perform a little bit better sooner because part of it is that you know Achilles is just it's a tendon in the muscle with an ACL it's so much more variability in terms of how your entire knee joint responds so as long as he gets his strength and confidence back we could potentially see him back and contributing pretty early um the question is is when does his body feel like it's ready and that's where the variability comes in so it's really going to be week by week um but I do think we'll see him perform and have hopefully have a pretty good second half of the Season fantastic sir I want to respect your time I kept you longer than I I
