Jacob sit op 'n rooi Londense bus agter 'n groot gesin. Die kinders staan by die vensters. Hulle soek bekende plekke. 'Kyk! Daar is Madame Tussaud's! Kan ons soontoe gaan?' "Nie vandag nie," antwoord hul ma. "Ons gaan na die karnaval." "Hulle gaan ook Notting Hill toe," dink Jacob. Dit is 'n warm middag en Jacob sit op 'n bankie in Notting Hill. Skielik sien hy 'n paar mense in kostuums. Hulle het ballonne en drams in hul hande. "Begin die karnaval hier?" Jacob vra vir Mel, 'n meisie in 'n groen rok. 'Ja, hier naby. Kyk na die vlotte!' sy sê. 'Luister na die musiek! Die optog begin.' Skielik hardloop 'n lang meisie na die eerste vlot. Haar kostuum is geel en rooi en sy het vere in haar hare. Hy kan nie by Marilyn se vlot bly nie. Hoe kan hy hierdie pragtige meisie ontmoet? Wie is sy? Marilyn kyk af en sien weer vir Jacob. Hy het 'n vriendelike gesig en sy hou ook van hom. 'Ek is Jakob. Wat is jou naam?' skree hy. 'Hallo, Jakob! Ek is Marilyn,' antwoord sy. 'Kan ek jou bel? Wat is jou nommer?" Sy gee 'n groot glimlag. Maar Jacob hoor haar nie! Die orkes speel en mense skree. Die stoet gaan naby 'n straatkafee. Mense drink koffie by tafels op straat. 'n toeris staan op 'n stoel. Hy maak 'n film van die karnaval. Sy vrou hou hom dop. Jacob sien 'n kamera op die tafel. Hy wil 'n foto van Marilyn hê. Hy neem die kamera en hardloop vinnig agter die dobber aan. "Marilyn! Marilyn! Ek wil 'n foto hê! Glimlag asseblief!' Die optog beweeg stadig. Daar is skares mense in die straat en Jacob kan Marilyn nie nou sien nie. "Ek kan in 'n stil straat afhardloop en haar dryf kry," dink hy. Hy probeer die eerste straat. Skielik hoor hy die musiek van die orkes. Hy is nou naby die optog. Hy sien Marilyn se dryf en skree: "Marilyn! Ek is hier!" Sy sien hom en sy waai. Die toeris kry 'n polisieman. "'n Jong man in 'n rooi T-hemp - hy het my kamera!" sê hy. "Ja, ek verstaan. Kan jy hom nou sien?" "Dis baie moeilik in hierdie skare. Maar wag........ ja, ek kan hom sien! Daar is hy!" Jakob staan op 'n bankie. "Kyk! Dis hy en dis my kamera!" Jacob sit sy foto van Marilyn in sy sak. Hy is nou gelukkig. Die polisieman en die toeris hardloop na hom toe. "Kom af, jong," sê die polisieman. "Is dit jou kamera?" "Nee, dis my kamera," sê die man. Jacob se gesig is rooi. Nou het hy 'n probleem. "Jammer, ek wil net een foto hê. Hier is jou kamera." "Ek is baie jammer," sê Jacob, "ek doen dit nooit." Jacob dink aan sy ma en hy is baie ongelukkig. Die toeriste dink aan hul seun en skielik is hulle ook ongelukkig. "Ons het nou ons kamera," sê hulle. "Hy is nie 'n slegte seun nie. Asseblief, kan hy gaan? ' "Nee, ek kan dit nie doen nie," sê die polisieman. Jacob staan voor 'n polisiesersant. Die polisiemanne kyk na die foto en hulle glimlag. Hoekom? Jacob verstaan nie. Die deur gaan oop en Polisievroudag kom in. Sy kyk na Jacob. Hy kyk na haar. Hulle is baie verbaas. "Dis jy!" sê hulle op dieselfde tyd. "Kyk na hierdie foto, Marilyn," sê die sersant. "Hier is jy by die dokter - of dalk die karnaval?"
