Bruce all right we got to do one thing first we got a lot of things to get to by the way we're sticking here no free ads no free ads but I'm sticking with what's working and I'm going to stick with it as long as I can um there's also something else that's uh that's been out there I don't know if you've heard or not but um if if you listen closely you might hear it yeah that's a sweep you already know let's go fans we back uh red fans we back we all the way back I I already had that I was going to use that as the opening for the podcast right before the music plays tomorrow it's already it's already set in motion that's right I mean how could you not like Ellie De La Cruz the the uh the English version of Ellie De La Cruz is is uh is unbelievably exceptional and there's just a lot of things to get to tonight there's a lot of things to get to uh we have all the traditionals in there we got the Bosco recap of course we have the Deep Drive which you know I don't know I mean I'm sure what we're going to do with that but I'm sure we'll figure it out some semblance of a solution as we always do hopefully we don't have to go to the all the way to the Arizona complex League we got supers all over the place and uh you know hey Nick I told you that this team was going to have to do something something that they weren't supposed to do what' I tell you now you told me H yeah you know we shouldn't expect that we took it to him took it to him took him to the took him to the old Woodshed as I say Nick how you doing buddy uh I'd say never been better I mean I am I am great tonight trace this is a a wonderful time to be a Cincinnati Reds fan sort of I mean I don't know what a weekend what a weekend I did not see this one coming but that's what makes baseball incredible right I mean you could play as terrible as you can play for week after week and then somehow you find a way to go sweep the Dodgers uh that's what we love about this sport um is the unexpected happens all the time and it's what makes it great correct uh we'll get into a lot of different things that uh that happen throughout this game that obviously allowed them to win but an overarching message on on my end is the things that we needed to have happen that we've been complaining about for what seems like the past month have happened this series um it it was the combination Nick of when one thing goes right can we get one more other thing to go right at the same time and we were able to do that this weekend and uh we'll see how long we can kind of keep that going but for now it does feel like there's a little bit of juice here we got a little bit of life and by God we needed it because it felt like we were right there uh on the doorsteps and I think I was even saying the depths of Hell uh it felt like that where we are at and uh certainly this weekend has changed that Mojo just a bit and we'll see we we'll find out here soon uh but I think that there is uh I think that there's a little bit of reason to hope now that you get rid of the West Coast trips Nick and on top of that you've played some good baseball teams of late you're starting to get towards the end of May which we said get through May and it does get a little bit brighter as far as the schedule goes now it doesn't mean it's everything as we've always said on on the show but uh it it it uh it does seem at least at this point we have pulse we have a pulse uh Nick anything you want to get to here before we do the BOS G recap we can run through some supers too I think we should do supers at some point but you got anything to add here before we get to the supers yeah let's get through supers um yeah I me I think this red team overall since maybe that 11 to one loss to the Orioles I I know they haven't I know they've lost a lot of games um but they've lost a lot of one run games I don't think this team has played terrible and the the nice thing about this weekend is I I felt okay about this team I didn't think this team was the worst baseball team ever I thought this team was an okay team that's kind of just had a lot of things not go their way I'm not going to go say like this is they're so back because they swept the Dodgers but it kind of makes me feel like okay what I believed is more reality this is a weekend Trace where the season wasn't saved but the season could have gone off the rails this this weekend they could have got swept by the Dodgers and then you're you're really in a deep hole they've kept themselves afloat and now they've given themselves a chance and that to me is exciting one last thing let's get this up to I want to say 150 or 200 200 likes 200 I think 200 I I I mean I think uh man that's a tough one 175 let's split the difference split the difference uh 175 likes uh is the golden night so if you've not oh man okay that's fine 175 175 all right 175 likes and drinks I also was trying to find a way to get uh to get my my dude here to to just sit nicely on the old stand it seems like he deserves it tonight so we'll see how long that lasts he probably crashes and burns at some point um but that's here nor there all right let's do some supers here real quick uh former Viking helmet man he's back better than ever he said he's he said you know he doesn't need to tell us this but he says I promise I'm not a fair weather fan I've been just been busy with life but lfg Reds let's get another big winning streak going yeah I mean uh the ideal the ideal starting to play some division games finally feels like we haven't played division games all year long hardly so uh that's some uh that's some good news I'm trying to figure out which way I need to go I need to go to the right here um all right uh Jordan he's got the brooms thank you for that super just straight brooms that's nothing more needs to be said John svani Boy I'll tell you what John was not happy last week and I don't blame JN I don't blame him a bit but tonight is a different night it's a different day John time to play like the day in day out time to play like this day in day out that helps be nice if I could read MLB on notice doesn't take a billion to beat a billion dollar team it doesn't but let's also be very fair here they got like 30 plus wins so saying uh game day 513 coming in he is a nut cutter welcome to nut cutter Nation we got some big time nut cutter Nation stuff coming up uh here relatively soon next week I'm going to announce some things about the following week and there's going to be a ton of uh there's going to be a ton of uh uh membership content coming your way and I think you're going to like that Big Red Machine you know I've always said you know I say this Nick I I've always said I love the Big Red Machine nothing gets me going you know what in fact that's that's for that's for uh you name it Tony Perez that one's for the big tone he said the Reds swept the billion dooll Dodgers with backups and spare parts why not the Reds Trace called it June 2023 Vibes lfg I mean I didn't I don't I don't know if I called it I mean I did say I wanted it though I w i i I'm I'm I'm going to get greedy you know when time gets when times get hard in your life the best advice I can give you is you start to you start to be greedy you know you start to just assume things that you probably aren't supposed to be able to do you just say we're going to go and get it I don't know how we're going to get it but we're going to get it we're going to sweep the Dodgers and by God we found a way to sweep the Dodgers and uh to be honest I thought we needed it I know Nick's going to tell you take two or three would have been fine we need some positive momentum and we got it player formerly known as Mouse cop now I don't know if that's 100% what it says cuz it cuts it off but he's been an OG for so long at this point that uh I feel like I know his name uh hash defund Natty Sports hash unserious lineup hash bitboy read re e e d i I'll drink to that ah I won't tell you which one I'll let you pick whichever whichever hashtag you just used uh Ricky he said uh remember when people said the season was dead in May Pepperidge Farm remembers all right uh Michael rol coming in as always said uh get your mother effing Harry Potter brooms kid show sweep sweep sweep baby sweep a t o bttr r and if you're new here that means in This one belongs to the red bye bye bye says sir Boy Wonder all right that's all the supers and the Fireballs working so here's the deal we got to do a show okay and I think that there's some some uh some fun important things to talk about on this show and we would we need to get to those relatively soon so in order to do that we're going to do the box score recap presented by Nick Kirby all right Reds going for a sweep today of the LA Dodgers if you didn't know that is the team currently with the best odds by far by every sports book to win the 2024 World Series nothing nothing going into the third inning Jacob heres had a one out single then Ellie De La Cruz walked Spencer steer grounded into a force out but then Jake fry had a hard hit single to load the bases that brought Jonathan Indie to the plate he crushed the ball in the hole two nothing Reds India then stole second base and martini looped a single to make it 4 nothing against the Dodgers and Yoshi noou Yamamoto only the third time all year he's allowed four runs Reds this was a bullpen game started out with Brent Suter he got two batters out they give up one hit Nick Martinez came in got the Reds out of the first and ended up going four and a third one hit no run no walk Three strikeout baseball Martinez threw 64 pitches on three days rest Martinez got the Reds into the sixth and then there was a 1 hour and 9 Minute rain delay uncertainty if the game would get started again but it's got started again probably quicker than most people were anticipating Reds did not go to the back end of their Bullpen with the 4 nothing lead they turned it over to Carson spes and boy did he deliver he threw 57 pitches on three days rest as well through three scoreless Innings from Innings six through eight David Bell decided what the hell let's run back out in the ninth he got Moki bets out for a second time then Otani ripped the ball 114 off the bat it bounced off Sear's glove originally caught an error but they changed it to a hit spers then gave a double to Freeman to spoil the shutout and David Bell went to Alexis Diaz Diaz struck out thosar Hernandez and Andy pz 16 pitches 10 strikes Reds win 4 to one Reds sweep the mighty LA Dodgers Red's Now 23 and 30 on the season and the Giants lost today so don't look now but your Cincinnati Reds are three and a half games out of a playoff spot and we have a deep south Commodities deep Drive of the day I knew you were gonna find a way s Stewart Carlos Jorge and Victor aosta have all Homer tonight for your Dayton Dragons who are they playing you might wonder Quad Cities Quad Cities you know what that is that's double the Twin Cities Tyler Callahan also Homer for the Chattanooga Lookouts choo choo would have been a really good night if that was Austin Hendricks but we all know that you can't ask for too many things in one day so we won't ask but the DSC deep Drive of the day is sponsored by Deep South Commodities and they are a leader in renewable commodities for biofuel production specializing in Ed cooking oil collection aggregation and sales visit www.de South cod.com for more information and thank you to John and his team for supporting this show and one way you can support our show right now is to tell a buddy call a friend do whatever it takes open up every burner that you might have known to mankind inside the old YouTube thing and uh like the show we're at 111 likes Nick you're probably you're gonna you're you're you're in you're in a pretty Prime position to uh to indulge in some uh adult beverages is what we'll call it so all right let's jump into the show here sweep is uh is the first deal here and listen I we kind of touched on this here to start the show off I I know um you always kind of feel a little bit different after a sweep versus just winning a series certainly how much of a difference is it you know one could argue that it maybe not as big of a deal as as some may make it out to be but I get I think more or less it's just like at some point this team needed to turn a corner in some former fashion and it feels like it feels like this was the perfect opportunity more or less and that's why I was saying hey let's go out and sweep these guys because um there's just only so many there's only so many more opportunities it feels like this season that you counted on them to lose in a way and I don't mean that to be negative I'm just saying that when you look at every series moving forward for the most part you could sit there with a straight face and be like we we could win this series or we should win this series if obviously everyone's healthy we know the situation as of late they've been you know they've just not been the same team we thought they were going to be but the Dodgers even in spring training and you if you said hey you're you're you're going to lose two series to the Dodgers probably have been like yeah all right I can see that but not only do they not only do they you know find a way to sweep them they also now at this point uh and I like doing this because it's I think it's a funny little bit they hold the tiebreaker over the Dodgers just in case that's a just saying Nick they also hold a tiebreaker against the Phillies I mean just just put you know hey you know what maybe it gives us some hope because Reds have played well against the two best teams in the National League the third best team is the Brewers maybe uh this maybe this is finally of the year the Reds could uh could take it to the Brewers but you know it makes everything look so much better when you when you get a sweep obviously the Reds had that just disaster of a home stand that was a part of that eight game losing streak since then the reds are seven- n and if you would have like going into the season said the reds are going to go seven- n in a stretch against the Giants the Diamondbacks the Dodgers the Padres and the Dodgers you would have been like oh yeah that's perfectly fine like right we would have GL accepted it again it's that eight game losing streak that was the killer that's why the reds are in the holder end it's not because of the way they' played over the last two weeks I think in fact the red the way the Reds have played over the last two weeks is actually fine it is okay it's what you would have expected against this level of competition so that's what gives me some hope look the Red's got a chance now um you're playing the the part of your schedule that's that that's better for you now I'm sure the Dodgers that Gore this weekend they were playing the part of the schedule that was good for them too so it is still baseball anything can happen on any given night but this is hopefully a just a a weekend that gives the Reds all right breath of fresh air hey we got a chance here we're not that bad we're not terrible everything was going against us it stopped um Unfortunately they couldn't get a one-run win this weekend they had to win the games by three two and three would have been nice to get a one run win so but you know oh well we'll take them how we can get them well hopefully those one-run losses even out you know I I I think that's the semblance of Hope right over a course of 162 are we really going to go like 4 and 20 this year in one run games You' like to think the chances even if you're a bad baseball team you you you have to be pretty unlucky to to to have a as bad of a record as we have in one run games now I'm not suggesting that it's all luck by any stretch of the imagination they've found ways to lose these games and then part of it's because they don't play great baseball over a certain period of time uh jumping into the game today um you know I have I don't want to bounce around too much I do want to say Suter um it's it's it's it's a you always Overlook the opener when they do their job I'll just say that right like if you go out there and you give up two three runs as an opener then all of a sudden like you're the you're the you're the scapegoat for the rest of the game and the last few times against the Dodgers specifically we've had success with the opener situation so that led into the third inning and I know that uh you kind of have a rundown of the third inning but that clearly was the deciding deciding inning if you want to call it that of the baseball game and we finally got finally got the big hit we needed it and and we finally got it so I don't care if it was luck I don't care if it was a Seeing Eye Single I don't care if it was like almost a broken bat flare in the Outfield I don't give a damn how we get him we just need to continue to find ways to get these big hits uh because again I don't think this team Nick uh to be honest I don't think this team's good enough to overpower teams more times than not not just the Dodgers but but a vast majority of teams in this league I don't think they're good enough just to be like oh you know no big deal we stranded two three guys here in scoring position throughout the course of a game cuz we're going to eventually just Bop a couple over the fence and it's all got it's all not going to matter today that didn't happen and that was obviously the reason that they won so the third inning I you kind of run through this if uh how you see fit yeah I mean look they really had one chance in this game to score runs I mean the rest of the game the the Dodgers pitching pitch like you would almost kind of expect the the Dodgers pitching to pitch they had Bas loaded chance towards the end though they had a Bases Loaded chance towards the end two out it was two outs Bases Loaded wasn't like it was a great scoring opportunity but they did but but go ahead yeah they were few and far between so correct the Reds got some breaks in the third inning but again they also created a lot of their luck so herbes let off he singled on the sixth pitch of the atet then Ellie D La Cruz walked Ellie's not been been been playing great of late really nice to see the Reds sweep a series and Ellie didn't even do a whole lot that's really encouraging to be honest but Ellie walked that's great to see Jake fry singled on the seventh pitch of his at bat then Jonathan India he got ahead in the count 2-1 got a sinker near the middle of the Zone drove in two runs India then stole second base to get two runners in the scoring position that proved to be big because you got that big lucky break Nick Martinez little bloop single but the bat put the bat on the ball there was just so many good at bats in that in that inning and and that's what that's what thre threads have to do especially right now when they're they're down several key offensive guys they've got a find out these at bats they've got to uh try to capitalize on every chance that they get doesn't mean you're going to be successful on every chance you get but at least the process in that third inning was one of the best it was one of the best Innings I think I've saw all year out of this offense just from a stpoint of the effort the the the grinding in thatat the making a really really good pitcher in Yamamoto work I completely agree and I I I if we want to try to carve out a silver lining here right uh and really do the whole Chatterbox Reds bit and I know some people hate us for being this way and I I don't I I certainly am nowhere near as far down the path maybe as as you are in regards to positivity all the time I'll put my hand up in saying that that isn't my best trait but Jacob heres never gets an opportunity to play in Major League Baseball let's be very clear if if the reds don't have injury issues this season not even a semblance of a chance because the reality is is for him uh and again I'm not trying to to to go out on a deep end here and bring all of my fandoms in but it's the experience that I have personally as I've watched Sports in my life and there's there's some semblance of like a STS and Bennett and I know I'm a Georgia fan but like there's a little bit of a ston Bennett in in herbees right like it takes it takes a perfect storm for the kid to even get a chance and then from there you realize like you know what the guys the guy's had success throughout his entire professional career and he's had to work through all of everybody doubting him for so long at some point you think maybe you just got lucky and you got a guy that's just a grinder he's just going to find a way to be successful he might not look the best all the time I'm not here to say in left field he makes it look smooth I'm not here to say that his swings always look great but he does look competent and he looks like a pest when he's at the plate and I love that like I I genuinely love Jacob heres right now now again to be very clear I'm not going out of Limb and saying that he's going to be a six seven eight year big leager for the Cincinnati Reds but I'm gonna say if there's a silver lining in all this Nick is that maybe a year or two years from now bear with me when I say this is that Jacob heres if he's if he's at all something a part of the future of this team then this little two three week stretch of hell that we've been through produced Jacob heres it gave you a chance to see him it did now I'm not saying I'm not saying for a single second that that we should all be thankful that we went through Helen Back to get Jacob herbes but I'm just saying that he might be like TJ fredel light like there's a little semblance of him TJ fredel and Jacob heres in there just saying I'm I'm just saying because uh as like I said as a Georgia guy if you would have told me that STS and Bennett was going to be the starting quarterback in two years when he arrived on campus I would have said this is the world's worst thing I've ever seen and he's the only guy in Georgia history in since 1980 to deliver national championships so there is that is Mr Miss is heres hiding behind that wall no I just love Jacob heres I mean it might be the fireball but I'll tell you what the dude battles his ass off every single bat he finds a way to make it a make it a pesty out I like pesky guys I like guys that go up there and they're a pain in the ass to get out you know what I'm saying hey I love Jacob Peres I I'm a fan uh look he definitely brings something to this team uh I'm I'm excited that he's getting a chance right now and I'm I'm glad that David Bell said you know what screw it I put put this guy in the leadoff spot at least I know he's going to go out and I'm not going to feel like he's he's wasting in that bat uh every time he goes up I know this kid is giving me 110% we'll take it we'll live with it um it's also nice that he can lay down lay down to sack bun I know it didn't um you know didn't help out but he has that ability to do that um when he's in a tough spot against a lefty um and when you're hitting in front of Ellie De La Cruz you know that's a that's a positive so um and when you have the lead again this the second time second day the row the Reds have buned late with the lead I'm 100% I think he's doing that on his own Nick you think you think David I don't think David Bell's calling that I really don't I I think heres is just like you know what this is a decent spot for me to bunt I'll see if I can't get a hit out of it if worst case scenario I move him along he uh not to cut you off but I'm saying I think I think heres knows his role you know what I'm saying like I I think he's like I'm here to have good at bats move guys over be be be the glue guy if you want to call it that and and and let Ellie De La Cruz and those guys be the the the big time firework type guys yeah he might be you know he's not trying to do too much he he's he's an okay hitter against left-handed pitching he has absolutely no power against left-handed pitching so one of these times he's going to lay down one of these sack buns and someone's gonna throw it down the line and it's really going to look good um and and he's going to be able to show off his speed he's going to take second maybe third who knows um but one of the times that's going to happen so he's definitely been a absolutely nice spark plub good to see Jonathan India right in the middle of it again that was a great at bat yes it um you know again this that's the second time this weekend where he was in a big spot took some pitches yes didn't try to do too much waited got a pitch he could hit and did damage um so yeah just a great weekend from Jonathan India um man I hope this is is the start of something to come and look ind's going to start facing some weaker pitching a lot of these Reds are going to start facing some weaker pitching the Cardinals they do not have a good pitching staff and you're missing Sunny gray too on top of that uh they're going to face some some teams that that that have some some mediocre some even below mediocre pitching and that's where some of these guys might be able to finally really get going uh be a little bit more consistent not have one night they're great then you know three or four nights they're they're they're 0 for three one for four whatever you know might be able to find some consistency in this stretch coming up uh to finish the third inning Roundup talk uh I don't remember I'm guessing it was steer the the Dodgers the Dodgers had a hell of a defensive inning that inning I don't know if you remember all the plays they made but one of them was a chopper down the line uh the back candid it stepped on third it was just a it was a really good play and then Galvin uh Galvin Lux of all the guys like he's out here making just unbelievable plays he Dives I think he he robs Jake fry of of basically an RBI right you felt like he kept it in the infield and you're like oh here we go like you can't just this team can't just catch a break you can't let the ball go into center field we find a way to score a run we get on the board we're feeling good about ourselves and that obviously loaded the bases and Jonathan India uh had a good at bat and then and did he did he again this is where sometimes um and I I don't I don't mean this to come off as like an analytical thing because that's not what I mean by it but like this is where sometimes you don't always have to have high exit vows you don't need to always worry about like just put the ball in play from time to time and good things will happen I that ball couldn't have been hit that hard I was there at the game it looked like it was just basically like a weak little Chopper to the right side and it found a hole it found a hole and then on top of that Martini hits a uh I mean I don't even know what to say about it it was a it was looked like a broken bat flare job that got lucky so um you know anyways why are you smiling so much Nick think I'm making fun of analytics Well India single is 104.3 what okay what was the launch angle then on it it it went into the ground but he did hit he did hit H hard then okay fair enough it looked like a high Chopper to the right side that luckily uh the analytics Department didn't have G there I was surprised when I was looking it up when I was doing the box I I thought oh that was probably like a 90 mile hour no he actually good hit it really hard I'm glad to hear he hit it harder than I thought I know who didn't hit it hard was Martini Martini was oh I just had it his was uh 72 right well we'll take it though they all count we we deserve it we deserve that that's right yeah no we do deserve it boy we've been we've been through the ringer all right um dump into the pitching couldn't have gone better literally couldn't have gone better I don't know if there was one person you could be uh uh frustrated with or upset with I do want to say to get in front of this I love Spencer steer I know it was a hit I'm not suggesting that you won 100% like oh my God it's the world's worst play I would just like my first baseman to catch that ball personally um if and I know people are going to be like well was 120 miles hour off the bat I know it was like literally right at you though like you're the first baseman it'd be one thing if you were the pitcher but you're the first baseman you got to be ready otani's in the Box left-handed swinging but that was really the only I think that was the only reason spers didn't get through the game could be wrong yeah I think I I think if candelario was playing first base he probably catches that I'm not going to sit here like in crush spiter steer he's not supposed to be playing first base that's like he was option number like five there at first base this year uh uh coming into the season but yeah I mean you would like your your first base to make this play that play it was also ridiculous they they scored it a uh an air um because you you can't score 114 m hour line drive if they didn't have stat cast they would have scored it in air absolutely they someone what do you see this and they're like oh yeah yeah I'm not not doing that right uh yeah Nick Martinez ER as a reliever 0.85 in 21 and two3 innings he threw nine in the third scoreless Innings against the Dodgers he gave up two hits two hits unbelievable uh Nick Martinez at this point whether he likes it or not and he did it to himself he will never start another game and and and and and I don't mean that negatively I'm just saying like if we need him to be a starter then he gets an opener okay I don't I don't care I don't care what it is you just don't mess with something that's seemingly good at least until at least let me see it all the way out and and he starts to get hit a little bit as as when he has an opener but if I if I see him as a starter again I will be I will actually be one of the David Bell people before the game starts screaming and yelling about like this is ridiculous because you can say whatever you want about I don't care if it's just pure coincidence or not I'm not messing with a good thing so Nick Martinez shout out to him he was on you know he looks so good too like that's the other thing too it wasn't it wasn't like a luck you know it wasn't like oh man he's just getting he he didn't Graham Ashcraft it and I love Graham but like there's times where Graham Ashcraft gives up two runs through five innings and you're look around you're like damn how did he Houdini that Nick Martinez did not look that way today I mean he was sharp he had all of his pitches he thrown him for strikes and uh you know he made a really good Dodgers lineup and and I do think the Dodgers lineup drops off a little bit towards the end of the the order right now at least but um but the top of that lineup boy they struggled today and I'm sure the Dodgers fans are just absolutely pissed and beside themselves that the the 20 and 30 Cincinnati Reds came in with uh with uh with the sweep so you know hey I you were you were looking up Dave Roberts tweets today just to just to kill some time I seen uh you know in the in the middle of the game I was like you know hey I wonder I wonder what Dodgers fans are saying and I did some searching man I tell you what it just made me feel feel so good inside I I I just I'm like all right you know what next time I I have to open up a a tab we'll just call it a tab I won't say where where we're getting you know such tabs but and I have to read over and over again this team sucks everyone's garbage fire everyone I they do this in La too so you know what if they do this in La too it means I'm closing the tab I don't need to read it it's all bunch of garbage because the Dodgers fans do it for Dave Roberts the guy is like the sixth best winning percentage in the history of Major League Baseball and they're calling for it to be fired like it's absurd man sports fans you guys are crazy you guys are nuts yeah I think you're a part of the crewp so you're not you're not excluded just so we're all aware uh all right uh as always you know the drill around here uh nights like tonight you might not think that you need 88 you might not think it but you never know and if you do need it by all means it's there for a reason text call mantherapy.org shout out to those guys um for supporting our show and also supporting the folks that uh that need that service from time to time and that's okay if you do game time though um went to the game today Nick I will openly admit that I made a calculated decision today that I seen the rain was coming but I was like I want to go see Otani and I do want to see Yamamoto um and obviously I want to watch the Reds as well to be very clear but at least I could say that i' seen those guys if something would ever happen blah blah blah maybe Otani gets in trouble for gambling or maybe Yamamoto blows his arm out and never throws again I can say that I seen those guys play and when I went I made a calculated decision that I was going to stay and then as soon as it got really really bad I figur they were going to call the game I was shocked Nick that they didn't call this game I'm being serious I was I I obviously put out the Tweet earlier that if you were David Bell would you would you consider using your closer and setup man in the fifth and sixth inning just in in the assumption that when you look at the radar there was no chance they're going to play this game once they stopped it and certainly they did but when I when I went to the game Nick I used the game time app and for those that are wondering I got $20 off can you tell them exactly how you could do that please $20 off that's just that's truly incredible because the game time app is now an authorized ticket Marketplace of Major League Baseball that makes getting tickets even let's get some supers here real quick I got to find out where we were at when we started uh the former Viking helmet man he's back better than ever he said uh nothing makes me happier than seeing Kirby happy there you go Nick you think about that look at that smile you have had a smile all show long Mark fed with uh me all all the ogs in the chat know what that means shout out to rol speaking of rth rol is back he said how many dollars worth of super chats could I send a chatterbox Sports from otani's bank account before he realized couple Millies I don't know seems like it certainly seems like it that's the sketchiest thing of all time in fact I can't wait till I'm like 55 60 years old and I get to sit on my couch and watch like uh at this point I don't know Netflix will be out of business or whoever I don't know like the 30 for30 will be gone but it's going to be a documentary about that whole thing and I'm willing to Guess that they're probably going to be some uh some discrepancies on people's stories about actually what went down but that's a story for another day because we don't really care about the Dodgers on this show if you watch this show you care about the Reds and the Reds just swept the Dodgers so the hell with them uh pepper Westwood he said never down Nick kept us alive through the slump I don't know man Nick was down a little bit he was getting he was starting to it was starting to Bear Down on him starting to Bear Down on him but you know what he did he finds a way survives in advance Nick if you can survive the last uh what three or four or five seasons for the red legs man you can you can survive this that's for that's for sure yeah I mean again I survived 2022 that's right so uh scobby Andrew scobby he's got a Super Chat he said uh what up boys do you think this can catapult them to be contenders in the central again I forgot to write a message in the other Super Chat you did that's the other thing too I you know YouTube I don't get it man sometimes if people retract their message doesn't show up in the fan funding it's really it's it's it's YouTube man it is what it is you got to love them because they give us the platform but you got to hate him because sometimes it just doesn't work the way you'd want it to but having said that scobby I think listen my my my my gut tells me to be thankful for what happened but also be realistic in the sense that all the problems that we've seen over the last call it two to three weeks that we were all complaining about on a nightly basis they still exist somewhere the question that that really we're I think we're going to find out over the next two to three weeks is going to be is going to be more or less was that just a little bit of a slump in that wasn't truly about the the the the the consistent baseball that they will play or is that who they are and I don't think I'm ready to answer that question yet Nick I I because I I'm not trying to down I'm not again I'm going to be clear I'm not trying to be the Negative Nancy here but I'm just saying I think it's very obvious this team still needs some help they got some help on the way yeah but let's be let's just heres and I'm not trying to no one's said heres if he steps up and he plays like TJ fredes okay and you have espol who again starts to play much better because he played so bad at the beginning of the year you'd like to think that if water does find its level Nick he's going to play significantly better during a certain stretch of baseball relatively soon you got candelar you got all these guys that can genuinely help and the question is is whether or not they're uh they're going to find a way to do that over the next two to three weeks to get themselves back in a chance when you say the reds are what three and a half games out of a wild card is that where we're at right now yes I mean there's 10 and something games left we're three and a half out of a wild card I know we got like nine teams to jump but um it's hard to say that you know this team's out of it and as far as the central goes they got a lot of games left with Central teams so the proof will be in the pudding soon yeah I think that the Reds would either a need to play incredibly well against the Cubs and the Brewers or need those teams to play poorly over the rest of the season or have a bad stretch or something to have a chance at the central I think right now their their most logical path is the wild card because I I do think I don't think I don't think the I know the Padre's won uh four of six against the Reds but I don't think the Padres are that much better than the Reds um this is a Red's team that has a run differential of minus three I just I don't think this team has been 23 and 30 bad um right now if you look at the Pythagorean expected win loss it's 26 and 27 so I think that's probably where somewhere around where this team should be right now this pitching staff is really really good I mean they just played the LA Dodgers and gave up two runs in two days and even like the the Nick Martinez Carson spes I want to talk about him a little more in a second y but this pitching staff is is is really good so I'm interested to see how could this pitching staff pitch against some lesser teams that they got coming up um because again if you I don't feel much different about the Reds than I felt on Thursday I mean I I feel a little more Vindicated in in my my belief that this team wasn't that terrible but at the same time if the Reds had lost 4-3 on Saturday and they had lost 54 today we'd be talking about how terrible the offense everyone would be talking about how terrible the offense is so they're not really any different than what they were but they've they've bought themselves some time so um I think this team they're they're play odds are probably 10% I think they're probably a little higher than that because the Reds have they still have some opportunity to get players back that could be impact players where I don't think a lot of the other teams have that many guys that can really impact your team like like Noel V Marte can impact your team so I I it's probably a little higher than that but um not much higher than that correct yeah I mean we'll find out soon we'll find out soon the good news is that hopefully this gets them in a positive mindset because at some point uh it felt like losing was contagious and it was and uh they' they've hopefully break that mold and they find a way to start reeling off and rattling off some wins and they get themselves in a position where they're they're um interesting I guess is the word that I'm looking for I I don't know being competitive is one thing but I just hope that they're interesting uh come the middle of July you know and and and does that mean that that's should be the goal every year is just to be relevant in July no of course not but based off of what's happened over the last three weeks I think that's a pretty good goal to have and we'll we'll find out if they can continue to uh to get themselves in a position to do that all right uh spire sudor and Diaz I obviously mentioned suor there um just quickly on the other other side of the aisle Diaz he's been Nails as of late that's not an easy spot to come into today I I don't want to downplay what he did I I think you know you come into an inning that's not fresh it's not a clean inning you you you're facing obviously a very good team there's undoubtedly like you said Nick there's only so many opportunities that he's been given to save games anyway so when you get one it feels extra precious it's not like you you know like uh at times last year especially during that winning streak where it felt like Diaz saved three four five six seven games in a row over the week week and a half span and then all a sudden you're like well it's okay for him to blow one of these at some point because you're like you're expecting it he's not been given enough opportunities now to where if he blows one of these Nick we all know the deal I mean he's going to be absolutely jumped um and fortunately for him he threw the ball incredibly well um who was that who had a was it Hernandez that had a really good at bat against him and he ended up striking him out on a very very good slider uh right over the outside half and and uh so shout out to Diaz and obviously spes was incredibly good too so anything else that that you kind of want to add to these guys yeah Hernandez fou Off Pitch after pitch after pitch and Diaz kept throwing strike after strike after strike right that that was uh uh that was pretty incredible to see um so yeah I don't know what what they said to Diaz what they've been working on you know I'm sure they've been working a lot behind the scenes there was a couple opportunities where David Bell did not use him and four like four-run lead type situation so I think that was because they were working on things that would be my guess uh but yeah Alexis Diaz look like the Alexis Diaz at least for two days so that's encouraging um Brent suder just you know did his role did do roll well seven pitches took a shower have a day he'll be fresh tomorrow so that was good to see and it was really great to see Carson inspires pitch in a meaningful game well because this guy has pitched well for the Reds but it felt like so many of the games the Reds either had a big lead or they were down and so I know a lot of times you kind of get you know you're in mop-up role and I don't really think that was fair because he still threw quality Innings against Big League teams um he still saved the bullpen really nice to see him pitch in a meaningful game game um and uh I mean he I I don't think they could send him down like this guy has went from a guy that was just up here to you know be the the Nick Martinez backup when Nick Martinez had the start uh but but he's pitching really well uh I got a stat here 3.29 ER this season think I really love he's only walked three batters in 13 and two-thirds Innings so that's uh that that's really great to see um uh from from Carson Spire so but he looks like a guy that that you looks like you almost have a a mini Nick Martinez in Carson SP it does seem that way yeah I mean and not it wasn't coincidental they threw back toback the day and it felt like you didn't miss a beat but again iir's yeah 175 Nick you GNA do that now go good good job Nick way have rip that Yep looks you took it relatively well be fair to you um all right let's jump into this let's let's jump into this thing with David Bell David Bell uh he does this thing where it feels like when a couple of his guys get hit um he gets he gets really defensive about it and I I know today there was a couple things that that that I noticed one was the the the speech or whatever term you the the mound visit that uh David Roberts had today I don't want to say that I like I I I it motivated me but it felt like um and I I don't remember the kid's name that was out there but he was obviously struggling with his command uh hit a couple guys David Bell's already hyper sensitive to the fact that he's got so many guys that are out now because they've gotten hit in the hand or hit in the leg or whatever it may be um hand specifically uh with CES and Fredo but it uh I guess to round this out what I'm saying is like I David Bell I don't think he's right I'll just get out in front of the saying that I don't think he's right like if a guy's not purposely throwing at your guys it's hard for the Umpire to want to throw them out like and it's almost like what David Bell's asking him to do it's like if he can't control his pitches throw Ms like I don't think that's how it works you know I I do think over time like if a guy's hitting five six seven guys okay maybe so but the reality is the two guys you can't throw a guy out now as far as the retaliation I know that there's people in the chat and there's other people that are suggesting like the Reds need to do something about this you know I we we didn't really get a long time to discuss this uh pre-show but it's like you know clearly when David Roberts went out there I don't know if you've seen it Nick but he was like basically hugging him in giv him a p a pep talk because I don't know the guy's history but my guess is that guy's history is he's had some semblance not The Yips per se but he's had some semblance of control problems and he was trying to motivate him and say listen you're good you've been here before you're talented enough to get it done I trust you I believe in you you're going to stay in here and you're going to figure it out and to his credit he got out of the inning that was that basis loaded situation I talked about there at the beginning of the show but I don't know your overall thoughts on that whole sequence of events cuz it felt like David Bell was asking the Umpire like hey hey you're going to have to throw him out of here if he keeps hitting my guys well he did also hit two batters on Friday that's four batters in a weekend so uh I think David Bell as much as anything was just trying to you know make sure the players know hey I got your back here um because it it's just been a season that's just been utterly ridiculous um how many times they they they've been hit I thought that both managers handled the situation well I thought David Bell didn't go over the top and blow up I thought that was you know mature way to handle it Dave Roberts didn't get defensive oh you're coming out after my guy he didn't he said hey look I get it man he's been all over the place he went out and and took care of his guy it was a very mature situation two maners that that we don't really see a whole lot in baseball usually one has to you know fire their ego or whatever but uh yeah I know a lot of people will vehemently be against this I am as as strongly against uh retaliating and hitting batters um as you can be I just think it solves absolutely nothing it's dangerous um I mean you hit one guy in the wrong spot you could ruin his career uh I just I there's no place for that in baseball and I I'm proud of David Bell one thing I'm most proud of him as much as anything is the fact that he's taken this strong stance because again what happens a lot of times when you do retaliate we saw this with the Reds and Pirates is it doesn't stop like you're going to be like okay well we're gonna get you the next series like and it's a constant thing you don't solve anything it's just it it's toxic you're going to end up you could you risk ruining some someone's career someone's livelihood so I never think the red should retaliate I'm frustrated too I'm sure David Bell's frustrated I don't blame him at all uh but I thought that the situation was handled very well really all around I agree I I I agree and I'm not suggesting that David Bell was like arguing tooth and nail about it but I know that there's been issu this isn't the first time that David Bell's kind of done this right he's done he's done this multitude of times throughout the season to where if a guy has control problems he kind of looks at the Umpire and asks him like Hey you need to solve this and I guess my point is I guess that's a tough spot for an Umpire you know if a GU it all it all comes down to intent that's that's the reality of this if you know a guy's throwing at your guys there's going to be there's going to be a higher probability of retaliation of course but as far as David Bell's mindset that goes into the ret retaliation stuff I genu uh I guess generally agree with you I don't I don't think retaliation really fixes anything I do think there's a line in the sand a little bit at some point though like you can't continue to get kind of bullied if you want to call it that I don't think the Reds have to be very clear but I I think that it's one of those situations where if you eventually have to stick up for for one of your players or you then that's where the unwritten rules of baseball comes into play I mean that's just the the facts of it and I don't think that it's right per se but I do understand why it exists I guess is my point um so I kind of see both sides of the aisle on it and again I don't think today had any semblance of of of malpractice one iota from the Dodgers guy he just struggles with his command and I mean uh you know I I he wasn't Ricky carer bad but you know what do you what do you think that the uh who was that that was the Rockies uh what do you think they were thinking about when Ricky carer finally got off the mount it's like if we face that guy again who it was the Royals yes thank you um but nonetheless yeah it uh it was a unique situation today shout out to that guy though by the way he got he got out of the inning so just such a mature handled situation you just you don't expect that in Major League Baseball you accept one guy to have their ego and fly off the handle both banders has handled it really well right Dave Roberts could have taken exception of the fact that David Bell came out in the middle of the inning yeah kind of like he came out when he didn't theoretically need to went to the Umpire I think I think Roberts obviously handled it incredibly well he used that as an opportunity to kind of uh to go talk to his guy and and and and try to make sure that and and I also I want to say this if uh if there was some retaliation thing the Dodgers have a lot more to lose than the RS I'm not trying to be not trying to kill us I'm just saying that's there's a lot more money on that side of the aisle you know what I'm saying like throwing at Jake fry and throwing at shotani two completely different things with all due respect of course um so there is that there is that if you're Dave Roberts the last thing you probably want to do is pick a fight with the Cincinnati Reds it's kind of like you know you better be careful what you wish for it because that that those guys don't have a lot to lose you know well and Dave Roberts also has to real realize that on the other side it's Allstar coach David Bell that's right I mean yeah how could I forget Allstar Allstar coach Allstar Coach allar Co that's what it was right yeah All-Star coach how could I forget all right uh Red's milb Nick we have uh we have games they final well Louisville got uh rained out uh so we'll start off with doua Chattanooga they lost 65 the tough season for the lookout continues they've lost six in a row they're two and 14 in their last 16 games now 12 and 33 on the season uh I mentioned it on the podcast yesterday I mean they are in serious danger of having the worst record in the entire history of that franchise which goes back to like 1960 or something like that but there was some good individual performances Tyler CI and homered his sixth of the Season Austin Hendrick was on base twice but he got pinch hit for in the uh bottom of the inning two Runners on two outs for Dominic patelli I don't think there was an injury I didn't get a chance to really dig in a little bit more but nonetheless Austin Hendrick was Pinch at four Bubba Thompson won for four he stole a base as third of the season and then the most positive thing from Chattanooga was Jose aunia he made his double A debut started this season on the I um he was rehabbing in the Arizona complex League aunia was part of the Tyler naquin return had a nice 3.93 ER 100 strikeouts and 100 innings last year at Dayton but today his debut three Innings just two hits nowhere in runs no walks and two strikeouts uh Dayton is still somehow playing for some reason they're up 15-2 over Quad Cities they have a billion homers Carlos Jorge Victor a Costa s Stewart and cam klier have all homered uh I'll run through that full box score on the podcast tomorrow morning and maybe some nuggets on that but shout out to Dayton for having a uh uh a big performance and then uh the no I didn't put it in Daytona Tortugas uh they uh lost 74 to Fort Meyers Tortugas had their three-game win streak snapped uh Ricardo Cabrera was one for five Ariel Amante one for four with a double uh two of the pitching prospects we're watching down there the Lefty Adam swinsky he's the Reds number 30 break Prospect um he threw three and two-thirds Innings just gave up one hit no earn runs two walks three strikeouts he's now got a 2.73 three er through nine starts the season and then aner laurano he gave up a run in an inning and a third only the third earned run he's allowed all season 23 and two-thirds Innings 33 strikeouts and also Sami stura he got called up to the Daytona Tortugas so be excited to uh uh to see Sammy stura in some games they're now actually on TV it's uh it's a it's a podcast um but they are now on TV at home so you can kind of see moving pictures down there Goa sounds like it's a good one sounds like it's a really good one you were so nice about that that was very very professional of you Nick um speaking of professional I like bacon uh he says go Reds thanks Trac and Nick cheers thank you guys you guys are the best man uh Justin he's coming in live from the IND of 500 he said the indd 500 infield Talent was a full of tens I don't know what he means by that personally I don't know what he means by that you know um no clue what that could possibly mean but I do know this at the nd500 uh shout out to our man Ken griffy Jr the Swingman himself uh pace car from home runs to horsepower there it is from your Cincinnati Reds X account X account sounds weird it's a little different it'll never not be n500 Talent bullettin he says Jeremy Ward chimes in he says 175 lock likes plus drink up Nick uh he did do that so we uh uh we got to that and I will say this we're six alike we're six likes away six measly likes away five likes away from two hundo that's pretty impressive night that's a pretty impressive night um all right um let's see here no no Junior slander why would there be junior slander I I don't I mean let's face it junior he he got hurt it's as simple as that it happens what can you do uh all right as far as uh what's next where are we going to be how are we going to be there we haven't really talked this through Nick I don't know if you have plans tomorrow for Memorial Day um so I don't know if we want to do another night show or if we're going to do it right after the game I we could make that decision live on there we could just say hey TBD TBD you'll see the scheduled uh thing tomorrow maybe we should have talked about that before the show maybe not but I do know this Cincinnati Red Legs they do play tomorrow uh so as always we do the who what when where and most importantly as always why Nick all right Red's taking on the Cardinals Cardinals actually on Sunday night baseball right now it was delayed nothing nothing in the top of the second uh but the Cardinals they are 24 and 26 they've won four straight they're a national league best N9 and4 since May 12th so uh fun to be seeing the Cardinals when they're playing their best baseball of the Season uh your pitching matchups for the whole series Monday tomorrow a 410 start Nick Lolo back for the Reds against Lance Lenn more on that in a second Tuesdays at 640 it's Andrew Abbott against Kyle Gibson and then Wednesday Frankie Montas against probably a Bullpen game for the Cardinal um the Reds will miss sunny gry in the series Cardinals currently do not have a fifth starter that spot of course due on Wednesday um so they're either going to go with the bullpen game or promote someone from from Triple A and they don't have a lot of great options so that's um good to see some quick notes on the Cardinal uh Cardin offense obviously they've been pretty bad this year they entered today with nine less home runs than the Reds sure that's tough um Wilson ceras has been their only good player he's on the I um but Mason win he was their highly ranked shortstop Prospect had a really brutal offensive season last year during his debut he's having a nice season so far 301 average 793 Ops and then Gorman burlson and Newar they've all been playing much better of late the last couple weeks I think all those guys have an Ops over a thousand the last two weeks and then uh Paul Goldman he's having a miserable year but he's been a little bit better of late all right more on this pitching matchup tomorrow Memorial Day Lance Lyn he's having a pretty solid season for the Cardinal um coming off six great Innings against the Orioles two hits nowhere in runs no walks five strikeouts Lynn is 12 and four career 3.29 ER against the Reds 4 and3 4.22 ER at Great America Ballpark however last year red scored four runs on eight hits against him at Great America Ballpark when he was with the Dodgers active Reds 10 for 48 against Lynn that's a 208 average 622 Ops the notables candelario is just two for 13 but does have four walks India one for three with a homer and Jake fry three for seven with a double uh Nick Lolo making his first start in 16 days he's only faced the Cardinals twice in his major league career both times we're in 2022 actually two of his first six big league starts one really great start one run in five and two thirds other one he didn't make it out of the second inning gave up five runs active Cardinals are four for 14 Aeron 0 for three goldi three for five with a homer and a double and Trace the Reds going for a four-game win streak tomorrow they've yet to do that this season is tomorrow the day boy it would be nice it would be nice I see some people already in the chat saying we got a sweep we got a sweep now let's not get ahead of ourselves as as the guy who's asking for a sweep of the Dodgers I think it's a little much to sit there and suggest we do another sweep but you know what I'm not going to say we can't I'm not going to say we can't we got some good arms going that's a positive um throw ldo at them throw Abbot at them hopefully their splits against left-hand and pitching isn't as good as right that would be nice uh but we shall find out as far as tomorrow goes um we will make a decision when the show's over as far as the time of when we will do the show tomorrow so we're going to do a show just a matter of when so stick around check the YouTube channel tomorrow and it'll pop up there as a scheduled broadcast and that's when we'll be go live uh as far as uh other things Nick that are of relative note we have uh 26 likes tonight so I don't know if we want to do something extra special for that or not um I got a baby I'm not doing any more shots that was the one and that was the one and only I got to go uh hold a baby so I'm GNA try to be somewhat responsible all right well I'll pick you up it's all right I'll pick you up don't worry about it's okay all right uh here's what we're going to do Nick has a uh a cage pillow to figure out because uh I don't know if you know this or not but uh Nick he's got a pillow that's got Nick Cage all over it and how this became a thing well you have to go back to the series in Boston to find out can cage come out four days in a row tomorrow look at that guy man I tell you what he's a wasn't too bad wasn't too bad you ever wonder if uh if you know I know the chances aren't high but you know if if the Reds get to themselves we're in the World Series maybe the show's still going on we're just killing it blah blah you ever wonder what Nicholas Cage would think if he just randomly seen some show out of Cincinnati Ohio just have a uh sequin pillow of his face on it I mean what a world I've ever been a part of what a world still I still every time I pull the thing out I'm like how the hell did this happen that's right did this nobody knows and I don't even know how they're junking go ahead I do have one more serious point oh pleas wrap this this is very serious show it's not that serious but um serious let's hear it I'm I'm just I'm looking ahead and I tell you what I tell you what the bitching matchups I really like them I really like him against the Cardinals I like him against the Cubs I like him against the Rockies these are some pitching matchups that uh really favor the old legs let's see if they can get on a roll here all right we got a couple supers to get through here we got a couple supers to get here and uh I'm gonna take you home with them I'm gonna take you home with them uh Nick clear that uh middle bar for me let's see here Michael Roth boy oh boy Michael Roth he just he he I tell you what he's like Pete Rose just hit after hit after hit it don't stop with him uh he says speaking of streaks I've got a parade reputation to uphold win streak if you will catching Getta at parad at parades is that right geta catching Getta is that right Nick please check it I'm I feel like an idiot right now catching geta at parades getting it tomorrow yeah go Reds did you talking about cheese I'm confused throwing cheese Ro you got me confused big Z hey big Z's coming in hot late he said uh just left a wedding I'm driving my wife is sending this and love you guys sounds like you had a couple drinks big Z I hope you get lucky brother I really do I'm rooting for you brother I'm rooting for you you just went to a wedding Vibes are high you know how high those vibes are right now he just realized that the red swept wife's in in super chats they're misspelling stuff in the super chats life doesn't get much better than that you know what I'll just say this sometimes you got to ask for things in life that you didn't know that you could have or you didn't know that you would need and you didn't think that you might be able to get to that's why you just go for it were the Reds supposed to sweep the Dodgers no but they did but they did and here we are so you know what I'm going to try to dunk a basketball and since we got to 21 likes this one's for all all 211 okay probably had too much of this already but what's what's what's a little bit more never heard [Music] anybody oh man that's rough [Music] [Music] the best duck you've ever seen on this show go Reds see you tomorrow [Music] m [Music]
