ABC listen podcasts radio news music and more so in the short term he was under arrest for the purpose of a secondary test he was placed into the back of the police vehicle where they sat there for 20 minutes as he does this second test and then I asked him what was the result of that test he said there was no result they don't give you a positive or negative at that time what they did was was seal it in a bag and said that's yours he said yes he said if you haven't taken drugs you've got nothing to worry about that is canb GM football and NRL heavy Phil Gus schooled on Tuesday talking about Josh adoc car and his positive roadside test for cocaine late on Friday afternoon we receiv received confirmation the second test also came back positive it leaves the Bulldogs under intense scrutiny ahead of an elimination final against the Manley seagull we will hit that and all the other NRL finals in a moment with Emma Lawrence Corbin middlemass will guide us through the Do or Die AF fell agenda plus sound bites I'm Patrick stack this is ABC Sport Daily it is AFL semi-final time which is just another way of saying sudden death ABC caller Corbin Middle mass is here to preview that action called Port Hawthorne first up I feel like this game is a study in motivation what drives an outcome is it the fear and anxiety of a port straight sets exit or the joy of a su somewhat unexpected finals run from Hawthorne how do you see it it's a fascinating matchup and really how much do you do you buy to what happened with Port aday last week so unfortunately there is a trend there now for the power they've lost their last four finals by an average of 56 points and three of those have been at home so clearly they are a lesser version of themselves come September than what they have been throughout the regular season four of the last five years they finished in the top four they've given themselves the second chance on a multiple of occasions and often needed it are they headed for a straight set to exit for the second straight year or can they try and turn that into some kind of a motivating force and how often have we seen that from Port Adela in the past you remember the you know the flash point in the season which happened in round 15 where the home fans turned on Ken hinley they came out the next week and they won ugly against St kilder and really it it it jump started their back their season overall it's a fitting finish if ever I've SE one he missed from 20 out directly in front sometimes you got to win ugly P ad do it by two points I think with Port adlay there's so much of this that's above the shoulders I don't know how much you can sort of go searching through the X's and O's of last week because clearly they they just weren't there in the same way that they had been previously so can they change that in the space of 8 days one thing I would say is when you're in that position you know people in footy and coaches and pass players tell you all the time you need everything to go right and it feels like this week you know baring the injury to to Ryan Burton they've had a lot of little things fall their way you know hawthor a short down back already they lose Sam frost Zack Butters was banged up we weren't sure if he was going to be there he's been cleared and he's right to play so there has been a couple little things that hopefully are just starting to to turn the narrative if you are a port adade fan and yet I feel like given the the intense focus on Ken stacky and the Port Adelaide in particular what has been lost somewhat this week is is the Feelgood story of not just last week but the season overall in Hawthorne and it shouldn't be and really can't be overstated what they've achieved this year they will be the first team ever to go from all five to make get into the the second last game of the season and a preliminary final if they're able to to win here so they're on one hell of a Magic Carpet Ride and it feels like if you put your finger in the wind um a lot of people leaning more towards momentum than the team that's got their backs to the wall jack genan our colleague Paul ruse said he should pull his head in I reckon he might stick his neck out do you get the sense this guy is just going to do something there's going to be a moment that is ginan related yeah well I'm I'm lucky enough to work with Ben Cameron pretty regularly and he said he was already sort of plotting during the week of about what his celebration's going to be when he kicks a goal or it be some kind of typing sort of celebration on a on a fake mobile phone like he did last week with the cracking the beer open he was doing this he celebrated with a beer he's celebrated as if he's opened a beer and scaled it it'll be Central to everything that's going on out there tonight only in the in the forward 50 for for Hawthorne one of the game's great characters and I can only imagine him sitting back with his with his little mates and just laughing at the reaction from the footy media towards everything that he does at the moment really he's he's the the puppet master and everyone sort of dancing to him at the moment it's incredible the the pull that he's got and I don't think he'll be too troubled by that all the Hawks I mean I'll take them completely on face value by the way they've reacted and the way that Sam Mitchell's dealt with it I mean as an example about social media so our players a lot of them they don't have each other's phone numbers so in my world you send each other a text well they don't do that that's not how they communicate they send it via Snapchat or Tik Tok or who knows what else I certainly don't think when he was when he was posting that on Brody Grundy's in to say hey see you in 14 days I don't think he thought oh this is going to be really disrespectful to Port Adela and that's my motivation for doing it what do you want him to say do you want him to come out and basic I'm sure plenty of people will say oh we don't want him to say anything how about just keep it in house well that's how they interact and he's certainly not going to go in there and say you that the boring cliches that we've heard players talk about for 25 years I mean this is far more interesting than oh hopefully we we're there in 14 days but we just need to wait and see and you know we really respect port adlite and they've got you know dangerous weapons that we need to be aware of I mean surely this is a much more entertaining narrative to talk about than um than something like that Giants line Saturday night gws will be favored at home are they going to be banged up after that week one classic or is that an indicator that their best is better than brisbane's it's it's an oil and water type game isn't it I saw it sort of set up during the week as you know Chaos versus control the chaotic Giants up against the control of the Brisbane Lions one team likes possess the footy and take a lot of marks and and really dominate the ball where when the other team gets it there you know green lights the whole way in gws and go go go dashing out of his own defensive 50 and now to the Dasher In Dary Jones draws the man hble over the top to Bedford another hle to brown one more over the top to cman what a gold Giants Sensational out of halfback five hand balls over the top and Cadman slams it through it's going to be fascinating to see how those two Styles come together ordinarily I think you would lean towards the chaotic style in a final again we always talk about in September you know how much of this is played above the shoulders and how many of these guys at gws is sitting there thinking all week as they're getting ready for this game we should have the week off we should have a feed up we should be getting ready for a home preliminary final instead we got to take on a monster in the Brisbane line to a finals Harden have been there before and all of a sudden it's another four quarters and it's it's another mental hurdle that the Giants have to overcome many people assume that they're up for it they you know they've been a finals team so often in the past but I think that opens the door a little bit for Bri been here that is the kind of loss the Giants received last week that can take a fair bit of wind out of yourselves you can hear Corbin middl mass and the team live commercial free on the ABC listen app for all AFL games this weekend cor thanks for your time mate anytime week one of the NRL finals is upon us and it's a doozy Channel 99's NRL reporter Emma Lawrence is here to set the table for a finals Feast Emma the Panthers have won nine nine in a row against the chooks that is an insane level of dominance Nathan clear his back from his shoulder injury do we know how impacted he's going to be for this week one Clash of the Titans look I don't think he's going to be 100% but it's like with when you talk about the best player or one of the best players in the game you take an 80% even a 70% Nathan clear for a Finals game we saw even when he missed a chunk earlier in the year through injury he came back and had three games where he was either man of the match or came up with some clutch play like a two. goal to win them the game dolphin half last tackle though what is clear do tries a field goal from 42 M out he strikes it it's heading toward the P he has kicked that he the scrips I think the time out won't be a major concern it's just how bad that shoulder will be but I think the Panthers have to be the hot favorites for this one not only with clear back uh their last game with blue bet Stadium being redeveloped so for a couple of years and the chooks they're just they would have been one of the Premiership favorites but they are just so injury ravaged at the moment Sam Walker gone for the season and Brandon Smith as well so I think it's pretty hard to go past penth tonight the sharks are rank Outsiders Against The Storm but they beat Melbourne in Melbourne people forget that how would they replicate that in a huge finals Clash do you think and they did that without niiko Hines that match Ral Southerland are going to beat the Melbourne storm it is a drought breaker it is a respect earner it is more than just two points the sharks are outright on top of the comp having put together a magnificent 80 minutes of football at the Melbourne graveyard I mean you do have that to look back on but I think that was a little sort of blip on the radar for the storm they have just been so dominant not only this year over the past 20 years and the Storm at one point this year they were six points clear at the top of the table and they didn't have camon monster for about 10 weeks with a groin injury so with him back and firing Ryan penen back as well and the fact that it is at Amy Park I mean it would be a great story for the Sharks to make it straight through to a prelim but i' tip in the storm I just think it's too hard to go past the Juggernaut that is the Melbourne storm and um unfortunately for the Sharks there's question marks over their ability at the pointy end of the season to beat the big name teams because in the last two years they've gone out in straight sets so I'd love to see them do it but if I'm honest I can't see it happening the Cowboys host Newcastle in Townsville origin star Bradman best is out for the knights which helps Adam O'Brien's framing of his team as the ugly ducklings of the comp will they grow into a story of Beauty in Queensland you reckon Emma oh you know what the knights are the ones that I think that that might be able to cause an upset just because the knights are so hit and miss like the difference between the night's best and their worst is it's crazy so but we saw last year they went on a run of 10 in a row and that came off the back of the form of Kum ponga um to sneak into the finals he got the dalan medal and I think it all comes down to not to put too much pressure on him but yeah K and ponga there so much falls on his shoulders particularly given you know they don't have a a standout star halfback like Nathan clear is they've chopped and changed with their halves all year so they've been a bit inconsistent but I like the little I don't know if it's a war of words but the little Mind Games as such from Adam O'Brien um and Todd Payton and talking about the crowd as well uh all bets are off this week we've been at some some stadiums this year where it can be quite uncomfortable with how the crowd interact with our our team um I'd like to return the favor and make it uncomfortable for them I think this will be a juicy one but I think I think the kns could definitely cause an upset maybe the game of the week is Canterbury Manley the leading to this game has obviously been dominated by Josh at oar's positive drug test well the circus and his absence see the dogs fall to manly this one's a tough one to pick I definitely think it's the match of the rounds you'd imagine there's what going to be 60,000 at a core Stadium I think naturally I think it's human nature to be affected in some capacity but look it could go two ways right it could really rattle them and the fact that every single media conference this week they've been asked more so about Josh adok car and his absence as opposed to the actual match or like often when you see drama around sides like it can do the opposite and really galvanized them and Caldo could get them together and really get them up for this one like I think on paper Manley have more bigname players because Tom trovich is back You've Got Jake trbovich Dy Cherry Evans who's one of the best halves in the game but uh it it will be interesting how they handle no Josh shokar J Skelton has been named there on the wings so not only just the drama but he's a big loss because he's a great player so I think I think I tipped Manley with this one but I think this is definitely the match of the rounds sty every game's live and free on the ABC listen app Emma Lawrence thanks so much for breaking it all down for us no worries enjoy the footy sound bites when meeting royalty there is a certain code of conduct bowing curtsying all that sort of stuff didn't seem to apply to the Kiwi women's rugby team who greeted King Charles like
