congratulations epic battle five sets five and a half hours give us your thoughts yeah um yeah it was a long one uh yeah it was a long long battle uh I thought I played pretty pretty well for the majority of the match and um obviously I was struggling physically but know so was he um yeah and it was sort of two could last the longest in the end can you expain your your mind sir when you fall can you can you wait we raise your hand then I can call on everybody okay it's not an open form here okay name and affiliation thank you can you explain your mindset when you fall Lo down in the final set say that again sorry can you explain your mindset when you fall Lo down in the final Set uh yeah just count carried on fighting really it was um yeah just tried to scrape scrape little by little uh yeah each point I was obviously really struggling with my legs um un serve I I I was I was fine on return but so that gave me a bit of Hope um but it was uh yeah I mean I think when you're when you're a kid you're just told to fight to till the end I mean that's sort of rule rule one and I've done that pretty consistently throughout my career and you know sort of paid off a bit today David I don't um I just want to given the year that you've had and the ranking you've now gone down to what does this mean to you in in isolation on the day I know it it doesn't change the ranking around on its own but just as as a day itself what does this mean to you um I'm immensely proud that I come for the match um I think that's the overriding feeling more than anything is um you know I've had a lot of first rounds this year and that's yeah it's nice to win a match obviously was a long match um but yeah that's the overriding feeling is to to still be able to win at this level um you know you always have doubts when you've been not winning that's normal in any Walk of Life if you're not doing well you have have doubts and it's no different in tennis and that would be my my overriding feeling is I'm I'm happy to come through that match of course it's a special match to to win in what fashion or however you want to say but yeah I'm proud that I'm I'm still still able to compete with with the uh on the tour as you said my rankings dropped and I thought I could but it's it's easier said than done you can always think it but it's um you've got to go out there and and do it and in the you know obviously missing that shot in the first set didn't didn't start proceedings off that that well yeah ni KN from the mirror um how do you where where you where were you hurting most during the match now and what do you plan to do the next 48 hours can you face can you imagine going back on Corner the next 48 hours or so yeah obviously you won't practice tomorrow it's uh just recover and try and recover as best as possible um I was hurting all over really um yeah it was just such I I don't think I've played five hours that long in a day ever in two sessions never mind him once um was actually thinking that on the court I've never practiced two hours two hours it's normally an hour and a half so um yeah we'll see uh yeah we'll we'll see I can't say now I'm obviously being a bit of discomfort for the next you know few hours and 12 hours 48 hours whatever but you know I'm pretty pride myself on being pretty fit so I should be should hopefully be okay on the right side hey Dan walin from USA Today uh from 44 in the final set on you had some pretty outrageous shot making in that sequence when you're that tired how do how do those two things connect the shot making and and what's going on in your body or do you just sort of Let it go at that point was really trying to focus that that that part of the match [Music] um was was very easy to lose focus being tired and I think I did a bit when I was 30 live up in that game and somehow got out of the game and I felt you know I I felt pretty good on return I I didn't feel so so tired returning it was more jumping up to the serve and yeah I mean just carried on fighting trying to I could see who was in discomfort and yeah wasn't wasn't massively yeah extravagant shot making it might have looked like that but he wasn't covering too much of the court at that point it was had and and for him big targets were sort of got you winners so I was just trying to work work him yeahor uh you mentioned doubts before just curious what kind of doubts you've had um this year when things weren't going your way no it's just I've obviously I've won no matches on the tour it's it's um basic basic stuff really it's um yeah when you're looking for wins they become harder and harder to to get everything becomes you know a little more difficult to get over the line and yeah you know in in know that when you when you winning matches everything flows and you don't have to think so much and you know that was um you know it was pretty evident was trying to serve out the first set um and then in the breaker you know just missed a backup along but you know I got there in the end but it was um I'm just just happy to to have come through to uh to get another chance to play got a lady in the backa Ukraine um so the crowd was definitely on your side uh before the match could you think that people would cheer up for you that much and did it motivate you during the game yeah it was um I guess sort of had them on my side in the end when I was obviously losing pretty pretty badly so guess everybody likes you know this the story that you can back from four of or I was down but it was a great it was a great atmosphere um you know it's one of the reasons I love playing here so much is the the atmospheres um especially on the outside courts it can get very loud and I thought they were pretty fair to to both and it was it was a nice atmosphere at I just wondered if any of the the Olympic comebacks with Andy did that experience any of that help you today did it come into your mind at all or anything uh I didn't didn't really think think about it to be honest it was um yeah I just kept looking at the clock re really to try and just hang in hang in um but yeah it's another pretty good comeback I guess there three in yeah matter of months um yeah yeah nuts yeah all right we'll take two more Willie and S when you look back at this match in a year two years five years 10 years what do you think will go through your mind uh just I guess it' be such a good good thought to yeah amazing feeling to have come through the match um yeah I mean the the irony I've played him probably more than anybody on the tour as well I've played him so many times um I don't know it's I'll be proud I will obviously be proud um yeah it was just a crazy crazy match um yeah I guess yes one I'll remember obviously forever it I don't I don't really know I I can't put into words right now be obviously smach of happiness it won't be there will be no bad thoughts last question Simon from the telegraph so when you're looking at the clock what are you thinking like next five minutes or or or yeah in the you know I was trying to just play you know stay out there as long as possible at fall love and just see see where I could get myself um yeah it was it was again I say it's the longest I've ever been on a on a court it was you know this the four set I had to check check the set to to see if what set we was in I wasn't wasn't entirely sure where what set we was in um but yeah it was it was I don't really want to do that again yeah that's that's for sure thank you everyone congratulations thank you
