[Music] [Music] what's up everybody Welcome to a joint episode of of Lombardi TB Bru live and wisco Fanatics we are here to talk about cut down day as the Packers are whittling their way down to a 53 man roster and I should say an initial 53 man roster because there is inevitably change to come if you're here from LTB you know me I'm John I'm the host of Lombardi time Bru but also joined today by Tyler here from wisco Fanatics what's up Tyler how you doing oh you know another Tuesday uh glad I can represent the brand everybody else is busy with work or military or family engagements because football's not not important enough to them I guess but I can I can hold down the fort I know like when we originally talked about this it was a full-on round table and now it's uh this is much more romantic dinner that we have here instead see you got the candle going in the background I could light one I guess so obviously a lot of news today it has been a very very eventful Tuesday I don't think we've really been hit yet with any like I don't want to say tremendous shocks some mild surprises yeah certainly but I don't think we've seen anything like shattering to this point I would also say before we dive into the nitty-gritty here that uh we saw on Twitter that Wes howitz last year the Packers reporter he put out the official roster at about 315 p.m. so we are here counting down the minutes until that release until then we are relying on the report s from the Packers beat and kind of breaking down what we know thus far but there is still much to be talked about and decided and we will get to all of that so let's just start here I do suppose um and let's cover the release list so far uh thus far we have two quarterbacks released Shan Clifford and Michael Pratt Tyler and I we're going to be talking about that in just a second but then also on the running back side of things Nate MCC and Ellis marn offensive lineman we've seen go thus far Caleb Jones Luke Tuda leus Smith and Roy Newman and Samari Tay Julian Hicks Jaylen Wayne Demetri Stanley at wide receiver for tight ends Joel Wilson and Messiah Swinson linebackers maybe one of the bigger surprises for some folks Christian Welch and Chris Russell defensive end Deslin Alexander defensive tackle James Esther Corner LJ Davis who Bill Hubert actually put out suffered a multi-week injury in the last game so so he's not even going to be considered for the practice squad or anything he's just straight up hurt and then maybe some of the biggest news of the day kicker honders Carlson has been let go obviously leaves a lot of guys that we have not heard about such as the kicker counterpart Greg Joseph uh what's going to happen with the practice squad so got a lot of things going on here Tyler why don't you give your thoughts about what we got going just from this list so so we we posted we had kind of a running list keeping track up until about the last hour or so and when the list got pretty big but seeing overall like the biggest conversation inducing um cuts that have become are the kicker and the two quarterbacks so far and I'll throw in as a maybe a bonus one as Samari T but the question after the Packers acquired Malik Willis last night something that you and I discussed um that you know we were both a fan of um it's interesting to see so we are both fans of the Mal Willis move Clifford and Pratt both released today I think it's honestly at this point a 5050 flip of coin which one ends up back on the practice squad maybe they both do maybe neither of them do I think all of those possibilities are in play and none of them would surprise me yeah I think that that's a good way to say say it I do see the comments about my mic hopefully it's all better now I unplugged it I did that hard reset uh but hopefully it's better um I really think you kind of hit the nail on like what are the big things yet right quarterback one of the biggest talking points for sure kicker one of the biggest talking points for sure um so and I mean really like there are a number of decisions to be made yet for instance running backs are we gonna see AJ Dylan put on that IR keep in mind that the IR rules are different this year finally the nflpa and NFL came to agreement to change that that they don't have to take up a 53 man roster spot to go on the IR anymore so we might see that as an actual play for AJ Dylan or even Marsha Lloyd as Rob demovsky reported yesterday he's expecting Lloyd to go on the IR with his hamstring injury then we've also got Grant Dubose we've yet to hear about Dubose one of the ERS actively carry seven wide receivers or not and then the Enigma to some folks that is Tyler Davis is he an IR candidate is he gonna be tight end or do they keep Ben Sims we ultimately don't know yet Ben Sims has been informed that he's made the roster hey there we go okay well that answers that one so now it's just Tyler Davis at the tight end position um also the Packers have released fullback tight end Henry Pearson Yeah couple just happened yeah I got to say at least personally when it comes to Pearson I think the writing was on the wall as much as the Packers I think like him when they cut him early on in Camp and then brought him back generally a fairly strong indicator that you're not going to be on the 53 maybe they like you enough for the practice squad but if they're willing to let you go in the first week of August chances are they're okay not having you in the first week of September yeah um the other one that I'll throw out there that was um a big discussion for us on our on our post was Samari tur and there's a lot of people that were shocked by Samari turay or hoping that he finds his way back to the Packers or hoping that he gets a job somewhere else which I'm fine with you know as far as Samari Tay is concerned like I hope nothing but the best for him but as far as Packers fans are concerned I don't know that I'm super in a rush to get Samari tur back on the practice squad like if he's back I'm fine with it but over the last year and a half he's been passed up by Melton Malik Heath and now Grant du I'm not in a super big rush to get Samari Tay back on the roster yeah I feel very very much the same way I feel like we've seen that story it like really when it comes to T and I know some people are going to wildly disagree with this but I just feel at this point like we've seen that story what is there really yet to to get plus I mean I would say like from observing training camp every day tay was one of the most inconsistent receivers on the team even more so than some of the udfas like Stanley Hicks Etc Tay's hands have always been an issue and even this year in Camp continued to be an issue so he's one guy very much like you Tyler I'm just in the camp of like we've kind of seen that experiment I don't know what room there is left instead for your practice squad you could keep someone along the lines of Julian Hicks a very promising udfa out of Albany or even Dimitri Stanley a little bit more of a Speedster I think you know do you do you play the potential rather than just kind of recycling the wheel again with Tay so I'm I'm there with you I mean we're we're living in a world where guys like cadarius Tony are being cut and Sterling Shephard like I'm not you know I'm not in a super big rush right yeah like if they need a vet Presence at receiver I do think they can do someone who can offer a little bit something more than Samar tur at the very least onfield experience yeah yeah exactly like you said like Sterling Shepard's been let go Russell Gage has been let go like I don't see Green Bay making a move in any way shape or form for Wide Receiver right but if there's a break glass in case of emergency we know someone who like has to come in and play well I think you're more likely to go grab one of them I agree so how you feeling about uh Grant du Bose like what's your viewpoint on that should they keep a seventh wide receiver do you think he makes it to the practice squad what's your thoughts on Duos so I originally had gr Duos on my 53 man roster over Malik Kei after the Cleveland game okay then the Denver game happened and all bets are off nobody knows what's happening at wide receiver six and seven but watching Grant Duo specifically obviously Malik Heath had the experience from last year but watching Grant Duo specifically I think he showed especially in the Denver game when he wasn't making as many pass catches that he is capable of being a special teams contributor and that I think is something that could get him on the roster and maybe potentially roster seven wide receivers at least initially mhm and then seeing what they do from there well and I I will say too like even going Beyond teams he's even gotten praise from some of the coaching staff of for a guy with high tier athletic traits he's more than willing to mix it up as a run blocker and has proven competent there in the limited preseason slate that we've seen do Bose in so and all of that kind of stuff like contributing on teams being a capable run blocker and having lottery ticket athleticism is generally who they would love to keep at wide receiver six Maybe This Year even seven I mean there was even one year in Brian good consistory I think it was his first Year's GM where gut held on to eight wide receivers and he had seven I think as recently as like 2021 off top 22 yeah one of those years in there so like it's not a foreign concept for Goot to hang on to that many receivers I would just kind of be surp surprised given the fact that the Packers are a I think it could make the argument of like deeper team this year than we've seen probably over the last half decade so I mean and if you're cutting guys like Christian Welch who I think a lot of people thought stood a good chance to make it and did basically as much as you can humanly do to make a team in a preseason like I don't know what more he could have done so like if if you're cutting those kinds of guys for the sake of a seventh receiver it it makes a pretty loud statement I'd say I think if you're cutting Christian Welch I think you're this is one of the conversations you could have is if the Packers are going to keep seven wide receivers and you're looking at you know your 51 52 53 you know your last three guys making the roster and you're looking at it saying okay is Christian Welch more likely to be claimed or is Grant to B is more likely to be claimed and these are the conversations that Brian gakin has probably been having all morning yeah and frankly I've never thought of a head-to-head of those two like comparing that in a direct route but I think that that's it's a very interesting thought I'd have to ruminate on that for a bit you know the one that I've been asking a lot just to kind of jump gears here to the defensive side of the ball I feel a little bit on an island when I discuss kin King I think kin King has a world of potential I think he was a draft steel I'm just not sure that I see him on this 53 and we'll we'll find out shortly but I'm just not sure that I see it when you comp it compared to a guy like Zayn Anderson in the secondary who you know is going to contribute on teams so my thinking with kayn King before I I have you give your thoughts here is realistically anytime that kesan Nixon has been sat in preseason the Packers have input Javon Bullard at slot and then put in Evan Williams at safety which means practically in a game that's probably what they're going to do so that means kin King truly on the depth chart is slot three and we also know that he's exhibited besides like delivering a few big hits and forcing a fumble he's had some tackling difficulties plus he hasn't had a huge impact on teams so when you put all of that together like you've got a seventh round pick who's slot three and not really a teams contributor take away the name take away the reputation all the hype and like all that stuff that's generally not a guy who's going to make your team and I just I feel very alone logic train the last couple of weeks but I I think Zayn Anderson might stick over him so I'm with you on kayin King part of it specifically and our consensus roster for the four of us had similarly we had kin King he was one of the first we left off so he's essentially one of 54 55 56 if you're looking at it that way right uh he was one of the first guys left off of our roster I'm more willing to take the chance that a seventh round rookie falls through the cracks because a team isn't willing to jump ahead and be like hey he was really good in 2022 right but he hasn't been good in 23 or the beginning of 24 and letting that slip through and letting him end on the practice squad versus say say a Cory Ballentine yeah if Ballentine were to be released I would be very worried that he would be claimed because of how long or like how well he played for the last stretch of last season in the NFL right and I kind of lump Robert relle in that category as well now I have Valentine ahead of relle I think relle ultimately doesn't make it but I I kind of look at them in that same tier of like these are guys who don't have a lot of name recognition but those are NFL players someone if you let go of a Cory Ballentine especially as the season progresses and injuries come up and stuff like someone is going to to sign Cory Ballentine to do something you know and I think that especially given how he was in mop-up Duty last year injury fill in I think he's a guy that finds himself on the roster over a guy like kayin King so uh just to catch up I do see one here that looks uh official now as being reported uh looks like offensive lineman Donovan Jennings is off the roster he's been let go and I think that makes it official I think he was the last one uh actually railan go forth we haven't heard about go forth yet but uh it looks as though the streak of having a udfa on the initial 53 for 19 consecutive years he's coming to an end looks like this is the year that's gonna break it Jake Jake was saying that King was a great tackler he would be awesome in the slot I haven't seen it so far in a green and yellow Jersey that's that's my concern yeah I'm inclined to agree with you Tyler it's I think it was um it was especially shown in the Denver preseason game granted the entire team did not excel in that game but there were multiple instances where kin King really struggled and to bring someone down in that game and I kind of feel like he's one of those types that either delivers a great hit or he misses and and so I'm just I'm I'm good practice squatting that for a year and he even use some protections on him I'm totally good with that but I just I don't see how slot three seventh round pick really makes the team what I could be wrong yeah and it's and Jake yes we know nobody played well against Denver throw that game away yeah but I think you know when it comes down to tackling tackling is a thing you can see outside of the box score outside of the final score side of the statistics it was an eye test thing for me and I just just didn't like what I saw and I get that it was a bad game but still I mean if we're talking about the end of the roster and we're talking about say kin King and Anthony Johnson Jr yeah like I think Anthony Johnson Jr is basically a lock to make the roster oh yeah I would agree I mean he started Camp is one of the three rotating in with the starters at that second safety position so uh yeah I I view Anthony Johnson Jr as a luck as well um I do going back to your original point on the cornerbacks with talking about Kean Nixon and them using Bullard in the slot we are actually doing tonight eight o'clock if you're free uh tonight we are doing our stat projection episode and I think you're going to see reflected in our stats on guys like keesan Nixon and Javon Bullard that we feel pretty similarly as well that if Kean Nixon's not on the field that they can put Bullard and Evan Williams on the field at same same time and their play has dictated that being necessary yes because of how well they've played so I'm not trying to force another Corner onto the field just for the sake of having another corner on the field if a safety that you have can play the slot just as well if not better and you have another safety that can step in behind that safety to play safety well I think that's one of the the luxuries of having Bullard on the team is like you said you don't have to force a corner in now and I think I won't be shocked at all if pretty soon like especially regular viewers of my channel know that I'm not entirely sold on keesan Nixon being the best slot Corner in the world so with Bullard and kind of the Ascension of Evan Williams if he's able to keep that going all of a sudden you could be looking at a beginning of a best five conversation much like the offensive line of are you truly better suited by having Bullard in the slot and Evan William at safety as opposed to Nixon in the slot and some kind of rotation of Bullard and Williams at safety I think there's soon going to be a real conversation to be had about that Jake said the Packers aren't deep at corner he said he doesn't think he's going to make the Rosser but he could see it I could see it too and I'm not saying that I want him gone like if he doesn't make the initial 53 he's going to be on the practice sad oh for sure and I I even said like in my roster projection video that he's guy 54 like he was my my my toughest one if I had one more spot I'd give it to the corner with promise it just G 56 for us okay yeah he's right there for sure uh let's see I just want to catch up on a couple comments let's see Dave saying it's official the 53 has been submitted to the league all right we will find out soon uh and then let's see oh I suppose we could talk about this huh Jacob saying I thought Carl was going to be kept another season me too Jacob I did too I've been saying all along like I just the way Carlson kicks is very unnerving for me it just doesn't look comfortable for a human to do what Anders is doing it just doesn't look comfortable from a technique standpoint and I really thought if it was even close between Carlson and Joseph that it was going to be Carlson's gig and yet we've heard about Carlson we have not heard about Joseph there is a world out there where they let Joseph go and just carry zero kickers today and sign someone new tomorrow but that's what we got right now okay roster is out you want me to read it off to you it's out I got it yes indeed he please do okay quarterbacks Jordan love Malik Willis yep running backs Josh Jacobs Marshon Lloyd Emanuel Wilson on injured reserve is AJ Dylan so good call on that makes sense wide receiver six Romeo dos Jaden Reed Christian Watson davien Wicks Malik Heath Bo Melton Grant tuos was released okay uh tight ends there are three Luke Musgrave Tucker craft and Ben Sims Tyler Davis un injured reserve so good call again and offensive line they have 10 Elton Jenkins Josh Myers Rasheed Walker Zack Tom Jordan Morgan Shawn Ryan Andre Dillard Jacob monk Kadeem telfor and Clover okay defensive end Preston Smith ran Gary Lucas vaness Kings leari Aaron Mosby and Brenton Cox Jr so congrats congrats to Brenton Cox Jr wow uh defensive tackles Kenny Clark TJ Slayton Devonte Wyatt Carl Brooks Colby wooden injured reserve Jonathan Ford inside linebackers Quay Walker Isaiah McDuffy Eric Wilson Edan Cooper and Tyron Hopper so railen go forth was waved as well yep uh five cornerbacks Jer Alexander Eric Stokes Kean Nixon kenon Valentine and Cory Valentine and there goes King shout out to the whis guys we got those five correct um Robert relle kin King and gaman green were released safeties there are five wow Xavier mcken Javon Bullard Evan Williams Zayn Anderson and kitan aloto Anthony Johnson Jr and Benny sap the third released whoa that's a surprising one and then special team Daniel Greg Joseph and Matt orzac so Greg Joseph has made the initial roster that is a surprising one wow very much so all right so off top of your head uh biggest surprise what do you got there in the 53 what's your biggest surprise first off is Greg Joseph okay yeah uh second I think is probably that both Aaron Mosby and Brenton Cox Jr made it I really thought that was gonna be a one or the other yep yep um Jake I'm not a fan of the kicker decision either I really hope that there's another pending roster move coming with that in the next couple days um other than that maybe maybe 10 offensive linemen I mean we had them down for nine yep um if you had asked me a couple days ago AJ Dillan would have been a surprise just because I didn't really know that he was going to be injured but you know the thing that I thought about a lot is you've got a shoulder Stinger which kept you out for three games last year which is really long for a shoulder Stinger something weird with it then right and now you have another stinger in the same shoulder older and they're seeking outside medical opinions like when have you ever heard of a recurring injury that comes back eight six months later needs outside medical opinions and then he just comes back a couple weeks later like n generally that means it's complicated something's got to get done and that's kind of where I was feeling like Dylan this whole situation feels not ideal for AJ Dylan's chances um it's it's a Josh Jacobs season and B it's Emanuel Wilson season because I don't think we've seen enough healthy Marsha Lloyd to to really feel that he's got a choke hold on the the Robert or the Robert the running back two position yeah I I would agree with that uh like especially probably first I mean Dylan has to be out a minimum of four weeks with the IR rules so even if he was one of the ones designated to return he's still going to be out all of September at a minimum so then you're really look at Emanuel Wilson being rb2 because Maron Lloyd we've seen for four practices I think off top my I think he was only there because at first it was like the hip and like he had I think it was a hip injury then he came back for like a week and then it was the pulled hamstring so like yeah he's not going to be near ready right away unless it's like two carries or something kind of sporadic like that so let's just uh let's rip our way down position by position and just go through this now that it's out um my thoughts first of all on quarterback Jordan love Malik Willis yeah that's yep I feel so much better about Jordan love Malik Willis than I do about Jordan love and Sean Clifford or Michael Pratt yeah well and I will say too I mean like Huber reporting that in terms of the practice squad formulation it looks as though they're going to be asking Shawn Clifford back to be the practice squad QB and not Michael Pratt maybe they ask both back but that would just be weird there's no scenario involving the two of them that surprises me whether they're both back one or the other is back or neither are back none of them would surprise me and I know like some people are really really frustrated about you're seriously going to bring back Shawn Clifford like you traded for malus you got Pratt like there's a whole Pratt pack out there that really wants Michael Bratt and like from my standpoint I think the reasoning makes sense because as Huber reported they're looking at asking Clifford back onto the practice squad to basically serve as the de facto qb2 for the first month of the Season while Malik Willis actually learns a new playbook and the question for me has been kind of evolving throughout Camp of realistically if the Packers needed to pick one of Pratt or Clifford to come in because love rolls an ankle and needs to miss a quarter or something like that who do you trust to come in know the plays hopefully hand the ball off a lot and ultimately just survive and realistically at this point that's much more Clifford than it is PR probably Clifford yeah you know so to bring Clifford back on the squad to be that guy I think I think does make a lot of sense so I wanted to address uh Ron asked surprise only five quarterbacks and six defensive ends r a a conversation that John and I just had right before the roster came out was that we are not going to be surprised if Javon Bullard plays a decent amount of slot quote unquote cornerback so that's that's that's a factor I think it's coming for sure uh just to answer a couple other here because this is one of median thought right the waiver wire claim watch Duos Anthony Johnson Jr kayin King Christian Welch you got anyone that you would add to that because I think that actually summarizes it pretty well off top of my head like those are the they maybe add Pratt to it but I whole league passed on him seven times I mean for for questions that people were asking us maybe Samari tur maybe Caleb Jones I mean you're getting real deep into it to wonder if these guys are actually G to be waer claimed yeah and well the I was just reading this morning the last waiver claim even though we have Panic every year the last one that actually was done was Tamm Hill so it it's been a minute since the Packers have actually had one of their guys claimed now in terms of who to be watching for this year I would say that that list du Bose Anthony Johnson Jr kayin King Christian Welch those are probably the ones that most come to mind for me uh let's see I do see a couple comments here uh Ron saying Dylan is on I all year yeah so okay so that means really uh [Music] uh dyl and Davis are both on season ending IR the only one that's been designated to return so far as Jonathan Ford wow Tyler Davis is a little surprising on that as well yeah right it it um here's the thing that gets me with Tyler Davis I don't know what injury he has like I have not seen like Dylan we know it's the Stinger we know is he still there's no way he can still be ACL right no so technically right now they've they announced him as out from the Baltimore game because of a shoulder injury but I have not seen a single reporter ask lefur what's up with that shoulder or like what is the diagnosis what's a timeline it has been radio silence on Tyler Davis and his shoulder but if he's on season ending IR it ain't good but I I don't know any specifics from there Taylor asked a good question Taylor asked if we would trade for samaj perine from Denver I think it's a maybe I'd I'd more wait for see if he gets released and then try to pick him up I well I think they announced that they are releasing him I feel like I saw that this morning but I maybe they were they were shopping him to try to trade him but then if they couldn't find a deal for him they were going to release him okay I think uh I don't know I think they're probably okay I mean they've got they've got their Bell cow in Jacobs right then we've got Marshon Lloyd who you would hope as the season would progress would get more active and you know act like a third round pick and get going and he did show flashes of that in Camp when he was there for that very brief time and then you've got Wilson who is very much a known quantity to you but you hope that he continues to improve in the areas that you've asked him to um I don't I just don't see them making an outward call for a running back of all positions I see that being more likely at kicker at offensive line if dbsk's reporting is to be believed about how they're uncomfortable with their swing tackle situation as of right now um I think that those would be much more likely phone calls that Brian goodin is trying to make right now um yeah go ahead I would just kind of thinking along the same lines like trying to think of other positions where they would maybe add somebody um Cody said people wouldn't care about Jones if he wasn't the size of Ogden yeah the thing with Kaleb Jones like they've carried him for two years and I have had very very high hopes with Caleb Jones but at camp this year it was just it became really clear once he came back that the things that you would hope that he would improve on year-over-year just have never gotten better and I mean like it was so clear like even going against the threes when he was playing left tackle for instance anytime that they would run a screen to his side or ask him to advance to a second level granted like that's not really what he should be doing at his size but still it's kind of a necessary component of the lefan offense he just wouldn't get there or in one-on ones any time that he would go against like an Aaron Mosby type a smaller speedier Edge rusher if Jones actually got his hands on him the rep was done but if Jones didn't get his hands on him it was a sack every time apparently AJ Dylan's injury is being classified as a neck injury yeah okay that's now you just start to hope that he's okay yeah um Prince asked the question um Frank Gore Jr cut some like him in the draft outside running back being brought in wouldn't surprise yeah I mean if it's um if it's a younger one I could maybe get with that let me throw one out I could even throw two out that the Vikings released surprisingly not miles gasin but two that the Vikings released that were in last year's draft were Dwayne McBride and mo Ibrahim oh Dwayne McBride was a surprising one Ibrahim was kind of a fringe guy last year already but I would think Dwayne McBride was somebody that they would be more interested in keeping yes J KJ Dylan's done for the season yeah all let's bring back Aon Jones remember that glorious 15 minutes that we all thought we had Aaron Jones and Josh Jacobs then yep so I gotta go and delete that stat graphic that I had made for tonight unfortunately yeah right all right so looking at uh wide receiver officially on the roster dos Reed Watson Wicks Heath and Milton if you would have told me like back in June who are the six this is the six I would have said and then August open some conversations to it and yet we arrive right back at the six that a lot of us always assumed we were going to have it is a little surprising that Duos got released in my mind but yet were they really going to carry seven like I just I keep on getting tripped up on that with the depth that they've got at other spots and we've we've talked about it too you know when we talked about Samari tur about the other options that are out there like if somebody needs a wide receiver like are they going to claim a seventh round project in gr Duos versus claiming a guy like you said like Russell Gage is a great example well you look League wide the the deficiency League wide seems to be like teams need more wide receiver three wide receiver four every team has a cluster of dudes that they don't mind at wide receiver 567 now maybe the Packers Collective is better than most teams at that area of roster right but nonetheless like I think they're going to get Duos back and I said on my show on Monday do bows feel so much to me like a bow Melton trajectory and that here you have a guy who's a very late round draft pick who had a stellar camp now for Bo last year his Camp ended with injury and then he didn't make the 53 for dubos it's like his productivity has fallen off a little bit as he's gotten either more attention from backs or less attention with the ball yet I don't think Grant Duo's story is done and I won't be shocked at all if after injuries hit that room we see him activated in weeks 5 six seven8 n and he still readily makes some kind of impact on this team looking at uh tight end now any surprises for you at tight end we got Musgrave craft and Sims on the roster injured reserve for Tyler Davis I don't remember was Tyler Davis year- ending injured reserve is that what somebody said yeah yeah the the three that I saw that were on injured reserve were Davis Dylan and Ford and Ford was the only one designated to return okay so yeah Tyler Davis is done I saw one comment earlier about like are AJ Dylan and Tyler Davis Dunn as Packers it's possible I mean being agents at the end of the year so yeah especially if especially if they do strike an injury settlement the we had the the three that we had consensus roster was musra craft and Sims like there's no surprises there I was pulling pulling hard like I fell in love with Joel's Joel Wilson in the first preseason game against the Browns and I'm like Joel Wilson like that guy plus the hair flow like he just looks like a guy who plays tight end so I started calling him tight end you and and now I'm like okay now I'm a Joel Wilson fan so I hope he ends up back on the practice squad the reason why I was always personally really cold on juel Wilson is drops in in there was a streak there of probably six seven practices where there was at least one drop a day from Joel Wilson and it's tough to be a receiving tight end when you can't catch he made a couple blocks that I was impressed with in the in the Denver game even you know trying to find you know anything to take away from that game uh seeing him making some backside blocks where like Jose deua same way you know once in a while be like oh like he made a play like he can do that's why he's still around but yeah yeah I think I think Joel Wilson I don't know I I just look at him and that just screams to me practice squad like he's got some athletic traits he does things you like he's just not there yet so stash him on the squad coach him up and hope for the best there in the future like that's that's very much Joel Wilson to me and I wouldn't be shocked too if Henry Pearson winds up on the practice squad especially now with the Tyler Davis injury y because Davis was really shaping up to be their preferred move tight end like when he was active at Camp that's how he was being used so in the event of you know needing a move tight end fullback tight end Henry Pearson could very well find his way onto the practice squad uh Cody asked haven't we had Ford for three or four years now when he's spent 90% or more of an injured I don't I don't know about injured he's been inactive a lot like he's been uh he's been just a non-d addressed player a lot um but ultimately I don't think he's been hurt all that much and I would say too this was by far Jonathan Ford's best off season not really close even like he looked more spelt this offseason and he was making way more plays than I ever remember Jonathan Ford making in the back field how would you feel about potentially if we go into you know another conversation yeah uh potentially at the end of this season I believe TJ Slayton is a free agent kind of having Jonathan Ford as the deao replacement for TJ Slayton concerned is how I would feel ultimately because Ford I think is entering year three if I remember correctly so he's got only one year left in his deal so if you let Slayton walk then you're kind of banking on Ford who then is only GNA have one year left plus too I get really nervous I mean Slayton has a longer track record of success uh um versus Jonathan Ford who we've seen be impactful now for four weeks I would need to see a lot more out of Jonathan Ford before I'm comfortable ascending him to a TJ Slayton es role the reason I ask is potentially if you're looking at the Packers playing a 43 is if TJ Slayton plays a smaller role this year like if the Packers roll out Kenny Clark and Devonte Wyatt and say Preston and ran Gary as their four quote unquote defensive linemen and you're seeing potentially less TJ Slayton does that then make you feel that you are now looking for a third defensive tackle yeah I maybe I mean TJ Slayton has shown more prowess in pass rushing than than Jonathan Ford has even after Ford's development this summer that's one place that Slayton has really gotten better each and every year of his career so Ford would have to continue to make strides in that area for me and plus it looks like we're not going to see as big of a drop off at the defensive tackle position for TJ Slayton as maybe we expected because from like through the first couple preseason games he's been out there regularly on early downs and in Camp and it's it looks like he's going to be in a full-blown rotation with Wyatt not taking a seat to Wyatt like kind of some of us expected in the new D yeah it's that's a bummer to see Ford hurt um I suppose last thing on the offensive on the offensive side of the ball is the offensive line um I don't know does anything really shock you there on the o line yeah I mean the addition of like I thought maybe they would get rid of Glover just because like gos shown if he's going to get rid of a late round draft pick a lot of time it's o line um was our number 55 yeah plus I mean like Glover he's just very much looked like a developmental prospect on the line like you see all the traits but there's also been some pretty rough performances from Glover as well I think keeping him around he probably is this year's Caleb Jones like we're not going to see Glover active all that often he's going to be uh a healthy scratch pretty often but they're essentially going to red shirt him because they like his potential the question that I have on the line is how long is Kadeem telr going to be sticking around or are they going to make a call for a Jared valer Ryan Wagner you know someone else out there um to bring in a that more stable swing tackle presence Etc um Captain kble said Anderson making it over Johnson Jr is a shock to me I think that comes down to special teams I would agree with that for sure yeah um ultimately like for me I am really surprised like Anthony Johnson Jr to start Camp was rotating with Bullard and Williams like he was getting one snaps a lot throughout the first portion of camp and even now like he still was routinely with the twos I don't know is if he ever played lower than with the twos at safety so to see him go is very surprising to me Zayn I think does make it because of special teams and really not much else um let's see so defensive ends yes this is a bit of a surprise yep what are your thoughts on defensive end this was when you first asked off the initial roster it's like seeing Mosby and brenon Cox Jr make it I thought that was almost exclusive ly in either or situation and not both yeah I I even like I predicted neither just because I mean like realistically not that many of them contribute on teams like Bron Cox Jr doesn't do teams really and plus at a 43 like you can get by with fewer ends and so let's say if you would have had on your 53 ran Preston LVN and anare and then like a pret Cox Jr who when you need additional depth you just Elevate from the squad you can easily get by but they went the opposite end of the extreme on this and they want all the edge rushers apparently I wonder if there's maybe not a possibility that enig bar is gonna start the season on a snap count even though he's not going to have an injury designation maybe I mean yeah it's possible I think there's just so much known with enar like what happened all you had a torn ACL and then you didn't and you came back and it looked like this miracle thing like I just they've never really revealed tremendous details there and they're not obligated to but he's been full go in Camp it's not like they've been rationing his snaps in camp at all so are they suddenly going to do that in games the whole situation is just miraculous as puzzling all in one and I I I don't really know what to do there it's part of the reason I thought they were good with four because he's back like he's healthy he's good somehow maybe it's partially torn and they're just not saying I don't know find out I guess right that may reveal itself in a couple weeks right Peter Peter said I guess Zay Anderson is real after all yeah I saw what Anthony Johnson Jr even said that I think someone else said like that's uh good to know that ajj is uh keeping his sense of humor about him throughout all of this um I just I I'm just very surprised I think brenon Cox Jr has great potential I think Aaron Mosby was a fantastic Camp story who truly like in one-on ones he popped off a lot obviously against Baltimore he had a great game so like there's there's certainly reason to be optimistic about both of those guys the question more so that I have is in a 4-3 defense when you've already got four guys that are a full tier or two above these two what do you do with these two man I understand keeping five because then you can do more rotations but realistically like ran Gary He's not that much of a rotation guy Preston Smith and lbn they will rotate and then you've got an eggar if you would have kept five then okay you do have some someone to rotate in with ran and Anar six I mean like you said maybe one isn't going to dress but what do you do with these guys because it's not like throw one thought out that I'm having and it's on kickoff coverage okay do you put one of them closer to the sideline and say treat it like you're rushing an edge around a tight end because a lot of teams are going to use you know tight end linebacker types as their blockers for kick returns so you throw one of them out there on the end and say Bend to the edge like you're trying to rush a passer but instead you're rushing a kick returner yeah maybe we're really trying to figure out what they're doing with all of them I mean I mean might as well break out the theories right I mean like I I yeah I I guess it's just we haven't necessarily seen that yet from from what they've done in practice so sure it can make some sense it's just we don't have reason to believe that that is what they're going to do yet so uh Michael raising the possibility maybe Mosby can play middle linebacker too he'd be really big yeah he would I mean he is smaller compared to the other edges on the Packers I think he's even smaller than BR Cox Jr he's 63 250 maybe my question is is are they going to try to have him in the Christian Welch uh linebacker special teams role I could see that being more likely that he fills those snaps than he does true defense linebacker because yeah yeah that I don't know about Mosby learning a whole new spot for that honestly there's somebody if we move into the linebackers there's somebody that I do think is going to fill that role I think it's Tyron Hopper yeah I was really impressed with him after he got off of being injured and playing in Denver and Baltimore games I really really liked what I saw from Tyron Hopper yeah I think I think ultimately like it hasn't been perfect but he certainly over the last two preseason games has been one of the standout performers along with chrisher mulch yeah I think you know in terms of [Music] Hopper there is still a lot to learn there but I think what he has proven over the last two weeks is that he will readily be a contributor when called upon this year or they can survive with playing him which following the draft like I know he had higher draft status but just going back and watching there were kind of some real questions about like all right he's very much a developmental piece what can he do right now that's good enough because in college he wasn't the best tackler he wasn't the best in coverage what do you do with that guy in a what should be a completely revamped defense and I think he's at least you know proven in the last two weeks at the very least he's going to be a Blake Martinez type that is going to bring down what comes near him and you can survive with that if you need to AJ Hawk did for a long time yeah right yeah I mean wasn't it just wasn't near to the line of scrimmage as you wanted it to be yeah yeah just stick him closer to the line thing with Blake Martinez so that's fair yeah what's the problem goe K's pointing out Jeff's defense needs constant fresh legs guess that was a point of emphasis also possible they think they can slip them by cutting them later once rosters Settle yeah yeah very much so the only thing that I would say is on this roster I don't unless you're really looking at DN and keeping six I don't see some of the traditional Brian gunst gamesmanship that we've seen in the past of not having a Long Snapper on the roster for today and then signing someone back in two days or you know like every spot here is filled it's not it's not like we've seen in the past where they purposefully empty a spot with a no guy that they know that they can get back so I mean maybe the the one that does stand out to me is the six defensive ends of if they're going to cut someone in a day to get somebody else and maybe that's it but I just don't see anybody else really like that nothing else looks overloaded or suspiciously empty Maybe kicker yeah uh Steve saying go for on fourth every time it might be a more secure plan uh Steve saying for what it's worth rashan Gary has never played More than 70% of the snaps some of that is related to the ACL though yeah and I mean Also earlier in career when he was uh very much the rotational project uh with uh Preston and Z when they were there you know so that is true but even at the defensive end spot like 7 % of snaps is a lot and so like rashan he does have some wiggle in his rotation but that's also kind of why you got Kingsley andbar who can give you 30% of snaps pretty easily and you don't mind him doing it and make impact in those 30% yeah so I mean like it's just we we really loaded up on one spot um I saw before Dave asked um Anthony Johnson Jr and King cuts for Zayn Anderson I don't see it King we we had a pretty lengthy discussion about it that we think he's a guy that can make it back to the practice squad relatively easily um Anthony Johnson Jr was a surprise but I think similarly you're talking of super late round draft picks everybody's got them so there's that um and then Zay Anderson I think you're looking at a guy if he's making the team over those two doesn't necessarily mean that he's got a better future than those two but I think if you're looking at a guy like Zayn Anderson if he were to be released that all special teams coordinators would be calling or GM saying hey give this guy a look we could probably use him for special teams yeah you know and I I I would just add that it is a little bit more surprising from the standpoint of like Anthony Johnson Jr was a teams contributor you know like they kept Zayn because he's a special teams Ace I gotta believe if that's why they did it and to keep that instead of kin King who is not a special teer okay that makes sense Anthony Johnson Jr was nice from the standpoint of what we've seen in Camp thus far at least was a teams contributor and defense contributor versus Zayn which just gives you one and that's part of the reason why I'm so surprised by that move but maybe Johnson Jr is someone we see back real soon I I'm I am confident that even if he didn't make the 53 he's going to be one of their priorities to get back on the practice one yep uh Clark asked if Lloyd is on IR designated to return no Lloyd is on the roster yeah he's there no designation there he is on the roster yes yes uh I would not expect him to be very uh active participation wise in the first week or two but he is on the 53 with no designation he's part of the Jacob season in Green Bay yeah right and uh you know they've always got they could give Patrick Taylor back in the 53 yeah yeah I guarantee Min now but always give him a call um uh let's see Captain K's asking if any kickers of Note have been cut I have not fell out NFL news real well today I've been so honed in at what Green Bay is doing but I did see like uh uh some people were talking about Ryland from New England who had you want to know what his okay I'm just gonna throw this out there he horrible last year 64% on field goals last year yeah people wanted gone and we're celebrating it Ryland made 64% of his field goals last year yeah I put it on Twitter I'm like Ryland is who Packers fans think Anders is right I yeah I think that's a fair way to say it I that would not go well I'm still hoping to see and I have to look and I'm probably going to do this shortly after we hop off I'm going to look through kickers there was one AFL guy and I don't remember his name but then there was the other guy that I was watching to maybe see if he would be released would be Joey sly because he was on a team that had two kickers so he did have a rougher ending to his preseason I did see um the one that I was personally hoping for if they were going to Outsource it was I would not have minded ktie York until he got traded last week he was kind of the one that I was circling is probably not going to win his team's kicking job but I would be interested in seeing if he'd come to Green Bay but that that's done uh let's see Dave's uh saying how the hell did ory make it with that grade um because competition yeah so orzac is not the best long Snapper in the world let's just say there is room for improvement there but what I observed in Camp because I kind of came into Camp being like all right keep the udfa streak alive it's gonna be it's gonna be bound like it's not that tough to beat orzac and so like we got ven was considered like the top Long Snapper in the draft if any of them would have gotten drafted there's reason to believe this is good stuff and then in Camp watching them every day that that was the thing very early on basa said that what Bowen was working on was his snapping velocity and his overall speed and with that like in mind then I there was two days in particular where they happened to put the kicking unit like right in front of where I sit every day and the speed at which the bow moves felt at least three notches slower than the way that oric did everything and it's not just the snap it was the like the snap to then standing up or the snap to then backpedaling everything was just so much slower had less snap than when you saw oric do it and that was what really like moved me into the camp of it's got to be orik Bowen may be more accurate with his snaps but they're never going to have a Long Snapper that looks like he's moving in slow motion and if B wants to make it somewhere that is what has to get better because it was just such a stark contrast between the two and here we have orac this this is what we have yeah um Steve asked completely a hypothetical question and not a serious thought what type of draft Capital would be too much to get a capable kicker here would you trade a fifth round pick for a kicker wof no not unless you're getting somebody who is like one of the best in the game like obviously the Ravens aren't trading you Justin Tucker and the Bengals aren't trading you Evan mcferson and right you know you're not getting Kimi Fair Baron or you know young way coup or anything like that but to get a kicker that somebody's willing to trade you no I'm not trading a fifth rounder well you figure like no no other team that considers thems possibly in the playoff realm is going to trade their kicker they're just going to laugh and Hur insult at Green Bay for struggling with kicker like they're not they're not going to give Green Bay one right so you'd have to be pillaging from a team that doesn't mind if it has an inconsistent kicker this year and even then like you just gave away your seventh so would you really be willing to give up another day three I don't know it just feels like a very very tall order because I know that seventh isn't much but now if you give away a sixth and A fifth or like something like that it becomes more expensive because you did lose out on one of your sevens so I don't know just I'd rather just hold the door open for anybody who wants to come try out yeah right I I see that being a lot more likely you know so uh that does take us to the final position really I think we talked about everything else of Specialists and that's that's that Ian so that that wraps up the roster so we should get jumping pretty soon but just uh Tyler why don't you give your your overall summary here wrap it all up what what is shocking to you what do you see the team doing next what are you skeptical of at this juncture wrap it all up well I'll say the biggest shock is Brenton Cox and Aaron Mosby both making it as well as Greg Joseph and I think as far as the Packers and I'm going to go do the same I'm going to go look for what's out there at kicker because I thought Anders Carlson was better than Greg Joseph in the preseason not that it was a a race to the top it was much more of a race to the middle and neither of them could get to the middle of what we wanted for production from kickers so when when John and I are done and I get some free time tomorrow in this weekend I'm gonna go scour The Bargain Bin for what's available for kickers and see if I can make a post out of who's available or where they can find somebody maybe in another football league I don't know but right now I'm not super comfortable Greg Joseph being the only kicker on the roster and I hope that that does not Remain the case next Friday only thing I'll throw in on kicker which is completely irrelevant to on the field I just want to say it uh first of all if you ever go to training camp just observe all the players there is not more of a dad on the field than Greg Joseph like he he wears the flat brim backwards hat with his ear sticking out the side like he's got that dad looked down the other thing that I'll say is like this is on a completely personal note but like being lucky enough to be at training camp every day I'm not sure that there was a single player who interacted with kids more on the bike ride or anyone than Greg Joseph and I just as much as I thought the job was going to go to Carlson Joseph I think did have some things really in his favor he looked like a more natural kicker we've gone over the numbers or at least I have in like my show before about late season kicking he's been pretty good there it's just it became really hard not to root for the guy when you also saw him on a personal level which I know has absolutely nothing to do with this but I like that kind of thing and so it was it became very hard not to root for the man because by all accounts he looks like great dude I'm with that we talk about stuff like that on whis Fanatics all the time so that's that's totally fair totally fair so then just to uh put my little bow on it I would say like biggest surprise for me it's got to be the six defensive ends but how would relates to who was let go um like keeping six defensive ends in favor of Anthony Johnson Jr or keeping six defensive ends in favor of Christian Welch or like there's a couple of cuts that I guess that falls into my what am I most skeptical of to of like yeah you you you wanted to keep BR Cox Jr I I don't that's not a problem but you wanted to keep him instead of Welch why like you know and it's I I can see some rationale but I guess it's just surprising to me given how they normally operate um I think that that's got to go down as both my biggest surprise and biggest thing that I'm skeptical of but I think in terms of like what happens next I won't be shocked at all if we see some kind of vet o lineman if they are indeed not sold on swing tackle and maybe telfort goes I also wouldn't be shocked to see at all a switch and kicker or even maybe sometime soon we do see a fourth tight end added to the roster because Matt leflour does love to use four tight ends Y and only having three does feel a little odd for a lefan offense so maybe a maybe a running back too maybe depending on what's going on with Lloyd I mean if if Lloyd is truly like good to go healthwise and just needs to get up to speed then I think we're fine but if we're looking at like Lloyd running at half speed for the next three weeks yeah okay then you need to have one in case of emergency maybe Call James Robinson again I don't know he did get cut by the saints that one he did before we jump Clark saying they kept Cox and Mosby because every team needs pass rushes true that they must like them both too much to release them Preston's future also is a factor yeah I mean I can get with that it's just you also need guys to play today right and I'm just with such an overloaded position of six defensive ends in a 4-3 for sure one of those guys isn't going to dress on game day and I think that that's my thing is you are you're you're not just keeping one that I could have seen but you're actively keeping two spots for guys that I don't know how much they're going to do in the early portion of the season and that just feels surprising for the other slate of moves that they made which are much more immediately focused so all right you got anything else I don't think so join us tonight if you want we're doing some St projections some of these cuts are going to affect them a little bit but um tonight at 8 o'clock we're going to be live doing our our stat projection reveals so join us for that as well yes definitely go support wisco Fanatics if you're here from LTB and if you he from wsco Fanatics um you know support lbtv I'm not
