I've ever seen in my entire life I do not understand virtually anything that happened here tonight the U ofh offense didn't play great the U defense fantastic U special teams and you had a chance you legit had a chance in this game at number 15 with 80,000 people here and some execution issues maybe some play calls we don't understand but Brad what are your first thoughts um it's tough to lose a game like that but um you want to win them all and this one was this one was right there to be had I mean I don't think anybody after last week I don't think anybody around the country especially not at U ofh in the U ofh fandom thought we would what was it the the line was what 29 27 and a half to 29 somewhere in there even gonna come close to that yeah um I saw a number of bad things but I saw some really really really good stuff I mean this wasn't against rice oh you're you're just now catching up from when you were all when you were yeah I'm um this was uh this was against a good OU team yeah a good OU team um who out talents us at virtually every position um you know we had to we had to come up with something to keep them basically to keep them off the field and we did a damn good good job of it let let me ask you this if you thought we would hold U to less than 300 yards 28 how quick would you have uh checked me into a mental ward and then if you said and one offensive touchdown one one let say okay and then they basically scored nine points on special teams I mean there there's a there's a a myriad of of different issues that we can address individually very very very very specifically but the difference between winning games like this and losing games like this are the absolute smallest details it's the second game that these guys have ever played together 63 new guys and you know I know we want I know we want to downplay the the use of new guys um and Fresh Faces within within the program um it's kind of a big deal given the fact that it's a brand new coaching staff here too y so every everything is new but I will everybody's got to take a step back off the ledge and understand that couple years ago U had like 70 new guys they finished six and seven when does all you ever have a losing record Brett ville's first year they had to turn over the entire roster um so after the game I went into Will's press conference and talked with him and I asked him a couple questions I asked him about Joseph Kim the new play kicker who booted a 43 yard a 44 yard pretty good back in his home state he's from lton and then I asked him about the two-point play why are you going for two so early in the third quarter so early in the game and his answer was analytics that it's basically a 5050 call there and he wasn't sure how often U ofh would get down there and have an opportunity to score again I did love the call when he made it but it it it really I mean I get it I get that it's probably a 50-50 kind of thing he said one of the receivers out on the right side I don't think it was I think they threw it to manjack and I don't think it was him but somebody ran the wrong route and you've seen that a couple of times uh you saw today that that even Donovan had to go up to guys and say no you're lined up over there not over here you gotta move you gotta do they're still learning and frankly they haven't learned fast enough you've got to have this down especially where to line up and where you're supposed to go when when a play is called and so there are some things that are frustrating that you think should be fixed and there's a lot of things maybe not uh Willie said that the the safety they just didn't have the evidence which I mean okay and they just didn't have the evidence to overturn the MU kick no no and that I think you know never going to put it on the rest because there's a lot you can do 100% in between that you know it's not the rest fa um but they we didn't get any help um and the thing and the reason why the reason why they played out the way they did is because the way the ball the way the play was called on the field any of those were called our Direction on the field they wouldn't have been able to be overturned probably at least by their rationale yeah uh so let's step back Star Pizza Brad you had star pizza tonight did you not oh boy he kept it well you ate one I've only had one I would I wanted to enjoy I don't understand it is absolutely delicious so I've been going there for I've been going there for quite a while everybody knows a while um this is the first time I've ever ordered for myself anything different than the sausage pepperoni with extra cheese first time ever so you've had it never had it for yourself yeah no I never ordered the pizza for myself outside of that this one is absolutely phenomenal and I highly recommend you go check out the chef's special it's got two different kinds of pepperonis sausage um it's got those little white things you saw in there that's little dollops of Rota cheese fantastic and then to find out I thought it was I thought it was whipped cream the first time I saw it me too I it was but it was delicious is my audio off kind of a kind of an in between um it's not a true pan pizza but in between pan and regular you were cutting it all right it's windy and the internet's not great okay so you like the pizza what I'm hear fantastic okay that's surprising that you would like the food uh let's talk through some things uh I'm going to need your help with some comments in just a bit so Willie did classic Willie Rope A Dope what go ahead [ __ ] is wrong with you I'm hypnotizing people stare stare at the the the Cake The Cupcake you know if we had anybody else on this feed right now your ass would be cut off oh sure but I kind of need you that's why I'm doing it yeah so Willie loves Copa do with teams that are just more talented than his team and that's what he did today now I don't know how great this U team is their offense I don't know but Willie just wanted to keep his team in it and give him a shot late and that's exactly what happened um ufh was a lot better on third down tonight I'm looking for positives right now yeah your your audio was doing some weird sounds um it's either sounds like you're kind of burping in between talking or I am you're partially possessed by a demon I think the demon is more more likely uh I don't I don't know what this means but you should do fat little coat routine fat guy my little coat routine uh how's the audio now um it's still it's still making a little bit of noise it's like in between in between while you're talking apparently my little sister's watching the show and uh of course he had Star Pizza I don't think she's ever watched but appreciate it Jay uh okay so everybody's talking about uh this is 100% accurate he used his th quarterback Kai whatever his name was Horton yep at pdcu to outsmart somehow Dana fogerson and this is what he does and I mean we were it was this close to working uh you made some mistakes maybe the play calling was a little drab but that's what you just have to do you started getting chunks of yardage on the ground in that fourth quarter you had kind of beaten that OU defense down a little maybe you just needed a little bit better offensive line play uh but I mean this is you're just gonna have to learn to live with Willie Fritz loves to run the ball and he's gonna do it he's gonna do it last week was an aberration you're never gonna see him run the ball that little um I was surprised today that Sanford did not get more carries after starting thought that was a little weird what did he have two oh he ended up with seven uh brette had three carries I thought that was weird uh especially on third Downs he had at least two on third Downs right uh I mean we're gonna we're gonna have to this is this is in kind of new territory for us in I don't think you're G to see it a lot against teams that we should beat but teams that we know that we're going to have a tough time with it is going to be straight up Rope A Dope we are going to try to shorten the game as much as possible and we're going to try to piss him off and we did a very good job you saw them start coming unglued at the end of the game those guys thatd frustrated uh it was really a a challenge to see who could do the stuff more often late in that game and they I mean they came so close to screw in the pooch with that penalty on the fourth down and then Makai Muse who took a beating from fans all game then does it field the ball and it gets down inside the 10 and then some goofy like calling uh some dumb stuff that clean up didn't lay an egg I think that's the most important thing is this team came out hungry will he said he challenged some people he talked a lot of guys this week and told him they just had to be better and he was especially happy with the tackling which I think is a great point I I thought it was a really clean game in that I bet the myth tackles for this program maybe the least in five six eight years uh they made critical mistakes and he has said this to me a few times that if you're playing defense and one guy screws up you still have the chance to make the play but if one guy screws up on offense an offensive liner and tight end who supposed to be blocking receiver runs the wrong route you might just be screwed and that happened quite a bit today uh he said that Donovan was more accurate um and he was really proud of their effort he was proud of their guys he said he was really disappointed last week with the effort the attitude and thought it was much better this week um I just I went into this game thinking we needed to see something from the running game from the offensive line are they putting Donovan in better situations and are the penalties and the third Downs better the penalties you cannot say was better no uh there were there were too many dumb penalties there were four holding calls the chop block a delay of game call which made absolutely no sense uh and damn near another one the one but can I give a one thing that that was much better was third down you had more manageable third Downs tonight right uh you went of six on Third and long just weren't even close but I believe you were four of six or four of seven on third and four or less and you just didn't have those opportunities last week you had them this week and you did a good job go ahead Brad um I don't know what I I forgot what I was gonna say I'm I'm sweating over here you're sitting how can you be sweating my my air conditioning didn't come on kick on until just like a minute ago I'm going to tell you something it's 65 degrees right now in this Stadium how perfect is that it's amazing like I just might sleep here um because my hotel is far I'm back in oklah I woke up today and it was like 70 degrees I'm like oh man it's almost basketball season um so I'm goingon to I'm going to I want to talk to Chuck right here Tom Herman was able to keep a lot of players in program Fritz lost a lot because he's a no-name lower tier head coach well Tom Herman was a coordinator who nobody in the South knew nobody had a clue who that guy was when he came and Tom kman without a doubt there's no debating it inherited a much better roster he inherited legit guys this roster was not that you have 55 guys that are returning from last year and half those guys are just special teams guys I mean it's it's just day I mean if if we wanna you can't really it and if you want to CRA that's fine hey Will is off of coming off was coming here off of a BCS win against USC and then another 11 win season yeah wasn't a no name no but the biggest the biggest difference other than talent and experience um the biggest difference is is that players couldn't leave yes there was a huge difference there um player players did not get a free transfer if you if you wanted to transfer you had to sit out a year yeah or you had to be a senior you had to be a senior graduate be a graduate transfer yeah um one of the things that we have talked about and harped on is that this is going to be a process and it's really about are you improving so everybody overreacted to last week I saw more than I can count people saying you're not going to win a game this year follow up with this and if we're back into the overreactions thing then the off sucks and we're way better and we're gonna do this and we're gonna do that I think there's there's opportunity here I think there's an opportunity for a win next week and then two weeks at Cincinnati I think you've got a chance there too you could make just a little better than the effort you gave today and be two and two all of a sudden heading to that last week in September um I thought you were really good on defense last week so in the first half last week you saw guys that just had not tackled all fall ball and then once they had the opportunity to get acclimated to that they were pretty good in the second half they were fantastic today yeah so You' had six good quarters of Defense maybe seven well in in the mistakes that we making early as far as tackling goes when we got there we made the tackle the issue that the only issue that we had that I actually wrote down about is angles were off a little bit we're taking we're taking a short inside angle instead of outside angle to be able to to get it but you know it's all correctable which they showed in the second half um I have to tell you I'm I'm I'm really impressed with this defense yeah um Ian they're keeping the ball in front of them for the most part they're going to give up chunk plays everybody does yeah um I mean the two biggest was to the tight end Jake the Snake Roberts right the little pop passes which were beautiful by the way okay he he was th those passes were their entire offense yeah uh but I I think you've seen Improvement you obviously saw improvement from Donovan Smith today uh the the plan for Donovan was a mile better yeah and then you gave him uh running back opportunities that that kind of opened it up for him a little bit uh your running backs didn't do a lot right but they did make it to where you could do some different things um it gives a different look if you're just going to keep dropping him back there and dropping him back there um it's one of those you better you better keep him completely clean or you're going to have to uh change up change some things up and make things look different um you know I'm I'm always about you got to move people with your eyes you got to move people make you got to make defenses make decisions um and I thought he did a I thought he did a good job of getting the ball out a lot quicker and I think the offense did a lot a really good job of Designing more plays for him that allowed him to get the ball out quicker that didn't force him to sit back and try to make plays s answer this question why didn't we see more Parker Jenkins um beaker's right piece of sweat um he's got to run harder yeah but I think it's it's uh pass play I think they don't see him as a viable threat catching the ball out of the back field or pass blocking and they want more Versa guys that's why you have Sanford and that's why you saw Stacy's need quite a bit I mean it's it's tough it's tough going in there to get any kind of yards yeah um but he looked indecisive when he got the ball kind of like kind of like Don Donovan was last week um you don't want to make this mistake you want to make the right play you want to do the right things when you have the ball but the more you're thinking the worse you're gonna be um I just think he's gotta just get in there just get in there and go you know if you run into the back of somebody so be it I mean you know at least get your juices flowing a little bit get a little bit of confidence in what you're trying to do I think this is true I I I really there were very few times where I just thought wow the offensive line was just horrible and there were some really big holes and I thought on the balance that they played Just way better and I mean theoretically you played against better Talent today you played against a lot better talent but I don't want I don't want to cut you off hold hold your thought I don't want to cut you off here I'm gonna cut you off but I think also them playing better especially in the second half them playing better was also a testament to adjustments made in the scheme and the play calling because if you've got a if you got a bad offensive line we learned this last year I mean it was very evident last year you can't expect a quarterback to hold the ball for three four seconds just not going to happen you're asking too much of the guys that you have in front of you um I thought we did a much better job of trying to play with what we have and minimize their weaknesses that's all it comes down to I think I think they that's why we were more productive in the second half um Houston Cougars Germany thank you very much yes we really need to figure out how that all works okay they just turned off the lights on me so the audio sucks and they're gonna turn the lights off on me so Willie talked about Keith Cooper uh in the post game that Cooper was a Houston guy and wanted to come back at home he really wanted to come back home Dickinson and will he said he was 230 in a basketball player coming out of high school and they wanted to see if they could make him into a football player and he's getting to the point where he's going to start getting some interest from guys in the leag the way he's playing I mean he put you on his back there for a little while in this game I hate to say it because it's it's high Ras he looked like big Sammy Brown from from uh back in the what it early 2000 Kevin suin yeah or was it 20 no I think I think it was 2009 200 yeah 2009 2011 somewhere in that time but I mean he he was I was impressed with his pass rush and the fact that he didn't slow down um but he also did some pretty good things dropping back into coverage too yeah I didn't know he I didn't know I didn't know he had that in his game um if we're gonna talk about Defenders I don't know if you heard this as much as I heard it uh Danny stman yeah the U linebacker felt like he made every tackle in this game he was everywhere and he ended up with 15 tackles 12 solo that's incredible 12 solo tackles AJ Hy had 11 Michael baton had nine yeah Michael baton is so is such a crazy guy to me because you hear his story of all the places he's been and you just assume well he just wasn't any good you know he he didn't hang on at HBU and Louisiana Lafayette and two junior colleges and Louisiana Monroe but that boy is really good I remember mmore has told me about him in July and I was like who and he was like he's fast and he's smart on the football field right and you're seeing it and I have been very impressed with the way he's played through two weeks um you know Keith Cooper is gonna get the most praise but Michael Batton has been great at that weeks side linebacker he makes and he made some really big plays late too yeah he did he absolutely did uh there was some play calling in this game from U ofh uh on third down especially that I thought was really smart and really good number one that bunched uh hurry up get up to the line snap it I don't even know what you call that uh which I guess in the third quarter maybe in the fourth where they just got up to the line and and quick snapped it and made six yards on a third and one mhm uh early the first drive the first estain drive for U ofh they had a third and three and they had the two type ends Carr and York kind of stacked and York went wide he was the outside guy he went wide and kind of Drew the defense over there Malik car goes and settles in about five yards down the field and Donovan found him first down the next one they had Melton and Carr and New York all at tight end all out there and they all ran pass rout and it was like what the what is going on uh yeah I just and then I I mean it just was some interesting stuff and yes there was a lot of uninteresting stuff but it was progress I thought and yes you lost and that is terrible you know yeah I mean there there's no such thing as moral victories but there's a a lot of good things I can take from this and a lot of lot of really really tough lessons that this team is going to have to learn I let's let's not forget we know where Kelvin Samson has us right now anybody remember year one anybody here in chat um y'all remember year one of Kevin sumblin yes they do that's kind of that's kind of where we are starting over again okay you notice that this guy is just hanging around like it doesn't have anything to do Sammy Brown was sumon okay so I had it right the first time I should have just stuck with that uh no I think my favorite I think my favorite play other than the uh other than the wide open pass to um to man Jack which set up on the play before was beautiful been I mean you know there's a lot of stuff that was set up not every bit of it executed but I could I could see what the plan was um my favorite play on third down in third down in one we had the shotgun um looks over takes um takes the audible then he walks up to the line takes quick snap gets first down that's what I just talked about that or fourth down the quarterback 6 fo5 quarterback fourth and inches a 6 fo5 245 pound quarterback and you go up and sneak it what is that you I mean I thought thought I thought you were supposed to shotgun go to the shotgun and then throw it short short of the chain yeah uh I did not realize and I looked it up in the real book and it turns out it's right that you do not have to be in shotgun on Fourth Ines I thought you did that's what I'd been taught uh by the last guy uh so uh what else do you think really in the game U was killing you on slan and crosses and I mean they were just carving you up and you took that away and really killed all the momentum that that they had uh and didn't really do much how many fourth down or third after the play on third down penalties did we see in this game you have jumped you had the the the roughing in the middle of the line they had the thing with Devon Williams out here with the three guys on top of him there was so much goofy [ __ ] that was happening that you just don't see and I just I thought there was so many different weird things uh going on yeah uh De Anthony Williams I don't know he didn't make it today not sure what happened will anybody address the barbet issue Brad what's the Barbie issue look buddy if you can't figure it out yeah I mean yeah he's he he is uh he's terrible he should I mean he's got to call more plays to did gain yards I mean I don't know why he didn't do that okay I mean that's fair uh I like the plays that don't gain yards so the next play can gain more that's just how I well I mean that's that's that's that's old school thinking right there that's techmoo yeah uh I I think Barb's finding his footing I don't I don't think it's been great so far I don't think it has killed you you know his play calling last week was not the problem his play calling today is not the problem you're not executing well enough on offense for the play calls to be the game changer and if you know they ran it a lot and a lot of people are getting mad they're running it right here inside the five yard line well what the what are you supposed to do backed up inside your five in a place like this you run the ball to give yourself some room so that you have a lot more options I don't understand why people are so upset about things like that well I mean what is he working with what is he working with if you're gonna tell me if if if he sucks tell me exactly why he sucks and then then you know call I I mean he he's he's calling from the wrong side of the sheet I mean one side says this play gain yards this one doesn't so he's got of choose the one that does yeah uh I have never seen more issues Fielding a punt in my entire that OU kid should have mu like eight he had so much trouble and and it's windy and it's it's been windy since we got here at two o'clock uh and they were struggling Fielding punts in pregame they obviously struggled during the game uh that kid like fell backwards four times he must two maybe three uh it was just it was a really goofy game the Mississippi State fans were happy well they blew out the whole staff they got rid of everybody so I mean when you're trying to go from Mike Lee to running the ball quite a bit you're gonna have struggles who thought who would have would have ever thought I know but I am not defending the guy like him personally on a one-on-one level but I'm not defending him I'm going to say that if we're going to throw it all out based on these two games well then you're never going to get good people let's see how it improves down the road next week two weeks four weeks and you know I bet six weeks into the season we can probably come to some agreement on how they're improving or how they're not I feel like somebody's about to attack from behind me it sounded like it sound like somebody's falling down the stands that's what I got last week absolutely this week Donovan was what 24 24 of 28 you could not take him out of this game an interception yeah you can't take him out of this game and I mean and with your number two guy on the Shelf couldn't go uh you were in a much more precarious spot with playing another guy but even if it wasn't that way Donovan was really good Donovan was not the problem and you know I mean it's easy to say well try the other guy or you know but Don's not the issue not tonight I mean you know I just feel like I just feel like we're we're trying to search for one thing that we can say this is why we lost this is why we lost guys this these losses were built starting four years ago now I had a lot of people blowing smoke up my ass telling me how great we had been recruiting and how awesome all these players are going to be um this is the result of the recruiting I mean you're you're trying to make a competitive team out of guys who are giving everything that they've got but just might not be that great right now right and I don't know if they ever will be but what you're going to see from the these guys in these in these coaches and this staff is you're going to see them over time evolving to being the best player that they could possibly be whether that's good enough I don't know but the question comes is what is good enough I mean we talking we demand 10 and one 10 and two we got to win out from here what are all season all offseason we talked about and we on on articles and message boards all across the U ofh fan base it's going to take a long time to rebuild it's going to take three three years to rebuild it's going to it's going to be a long drawn out process we might be lucky to win three games absolutely but I don't think people understand the depth of where we how much we need to catch up from a talent perspective and we put ourselves we we're behind the eightball because we have to add new players to produce immediately we it's not like we have a stack of players that are three deep just waiting next in line I mean that that just doesn't exist we don't have that and you're gonna gonna bring in high school guys you're not going to keep doing uh this thing with transfers I want to see if y'all can see there's a guy a TV guy down here on the field who's got his jacket on and his his shirt and his tie and he's wearing with shorts and black tennis shoes and media people are so goofy last year you had two guys Dana's fifth year by the way had two guys on the offensive line who were recruited by Major Apple White Dana the offensive genius and major the offensive [ __ ] but he's the guy that you still have offensive lineman from Dana did not produce anything from the offensive line it's like he didn't even understand that that was important and now you're suffering from that and you're suffering from a lack of attention to defense I mean how bad was your defense last year they were horrible mhm and this defense with these guys shieldwood maybe I I don't know how good your first two opponents will end up being but they're as good as most of the guys you played last year and you have not given up a ton of points you gave up 20 offensive points last week and seven offensive points this week I mean what yeah that that was going to be my question how many points have we given up not a lot I mean teams aren't running the two teams we played so far aren't running straight through us what can you say and I apologize for the bad audio I'm in a stadium and it's a public WiFi situation it's not like we have our own uh but I'm gonna try I'm gonna try to get it better Brad you hold this down real quick I'll be right [Laughter] back so what do we got next guys uh here let's see Chuck what you're talking about the offense and I still don't think we we we don't have we don't have a lot of great talent on defense but they're playing together and they're executing they're ahead of schedule um what else do we got I don't know if this is any better but we're gonna try we'll find out yeah I mean they'll probably not happy uh uh what happens if we lose to rice is that still a re you're 0 and three I don't know what happens if we beat him by 70 is that any more on the right track I don't know we haven't played him yet I did not see this I don't know what this is about but uh yeah you were really good when you were by yourself by the way that was excellent we should probably just do that every week uh I'm gonna get hot spot I don't I don't I don't know if that would work on what we're doing here because it does take a lot but we'll try uh that was maybe the most entertaining part of my day with Notre Dame getting every fre wrong call at the end of that game and still falling short and the Notre Dame Homer guys on NBC boy those guys struggle with Notre Dame's annual get beat by who right Marshall and NIU and Yukon and who else has beaten him in the last few years I don't know the it just I love a good conspiracy and that definitely felt like a we got to protect the brands we got we got a new playoff we gotta have these names in there two lane kind of got the bad end of that two two L got hosed uh I don't know what's happening organ and Bo here in a game that's fun uh what else do you have about this game here that you thought was interesting uh yich had 58 rush yards not great 35 Rush attempts not great uh Donan no but you know everybody was I mean focused on this and we averaged 1.7 yards on the ground the strangest thing is they averaged 2.6 yeah now I know coming in after last week um there's a lot of concerns that our defensive line Looks tiny we got little bitty guys they kind of stood up today they did play well and I think you've gota be impressed with that um am I allowed to say that this entertains me to no end I think Dion is so cancerous to college football just the way him and his son their their act and just the trashing of people former players I don't have any problem saying that's too bad uh Texas Tech is getting the crap kicked out of them Arizona is in a dog fight with Northern Arizona this might not be the best day for this conference but Arizona State's up 273 right now college football across the board is weird kind of crazy I mean look um Bama and USF were going toe-to-toe in the first half eventually eventually you know Talent like that's going to catch up but I think a lot of teams are kind of going through what we're going through to an extent is you got so many bodies that are new in a new place new systems and it's not just one or two schools it's a lot of different schools so teams are really really erratic do you think the football overall is worse than normal um okay this is really good podcasting well it's it's tough to say because looking at our looking at us and the mistakes we're making I would say it feels like it but I'm just saying overall I think it's worse overall it's because of how you're having to put all these guys together I think it's sloppier yeah that's and the offense isn't as good and so it it maybe the defenses are better because they're just ahead of the offense at this point of the year but right I mean it's Cincinnati loses give up 15 unanswered in the fourth that's brutal Kansas State chicken [ __ ] win uh Texas Tate getting blown out it's a weird and then Iowa State coming back and winning that game 20 to9 is hilarious how bad they played in the first half and then Baylor lost a conference game that's not a conference game [Laughter] Illinois how did that that how did that happen uh well when Utah and them came into the league these game were scheduled right and it's just a lot easier to keep them on a schedule as a non-conference game rather than try to find somebody new so okay I think there's another game that's gonna be like that at some point I was gonna say did they did they get uh they get to say that they throw one out throw out great idea just play one more conference game and then choose which one you're gonna throw out that's right uh I feel like it's worse because of the transfer portable no chemistry that's true nobody playing together I think a lot of fans underestimate chemistry I think it matters and I think oh I know it does nil is making chemistry worse in some situations not all right but it's it's hard for some players to accept that others are worth more and wise and it's but I think overall it's the chemistry of just not playing with each other and teams are struggling with that and it's not going to get any better any time soon if it's going to continue with this this situation well it's hard it's hard to develop and I think we we talked about this with um with some of the guys previously in our interviews is that it's tough to get everybody on the same page it's one thing for you to learn your job it's another thing for you to trust some that somebody else is going to do their job so you're not trying to pick up for them because you know that they've got what they you know what I'm saying instead of worrying about what other people are doing um it's difficult to build that trust just through reps and practice I mean it takes time to do that but it has to come in you know being in situations like tonight um where you've got third down and you know that they're not you everybody knows but maybe you that they aren't going to they're not they're just trying to draw you off sides and then you immediately jump off sides yeah but it's tough to it's tough to to do that and build that kind of chemistry one year at a time yeah and then restart again in December and um sorry I got distracted down midd in the field I just I I think it's just a tough situation and I don't think college football has an answer for it yet and we'll just we'll have to see um how that goes you can you can sort of get around it you can deal with it a little bit easier in basketball because you're dealing with you know seven to eight man rotation at the most um you're not having to combine you know 22 different starters and another 10 to 15 guys who are going to contribute on both sides to the ball I think last week it was 34 new guys out of 58 that played I mean that's that's crazy and you know how do you figure that out in such a short period of time obviously they're being paid a lot of money to figure that out and you know we have two data points now and that's all we have one horrible data point and then one what if almost maybe sort of a data point you know I don't know how to say it it's just well I think last last week was one of those where you just get punched Square in the face and uh you you just have to wake up and you have to decide are you g to play this game and do do everything it takes to get better this one it hurts because you know you should have won this game do you think the game the game was in your hands to win okay but being in your hands to win and should have won the game those are different I you never LED in this game no and I mean you were right there right there but I don't ever feel like you should have won it I think you could have won it and I don't think it would have been crazy had you won it well and also the the thing I guess the thing that makes me say that is Brett vbl flat out said we should have lost this game you said that in the post game yeah okay it felt like he was interviewed for a very long time I was waiting for elevator hour said that on the field he said that on the field on the way off yeah that's what I'm saying it he was interviewed by Cole cuing for quite a while uh I just I don't know that you should have won it I really do think you regardless last week was a wakeup call this one is one that you can say look it's it's it's these little bitty the margins are thin the better the team is the smaller the margins um you know this game was there for the taking do you think that you can build on is next week a potential for a hangover do you think that could happen or do you think after losing it could always happen um but I don't think judging judging from the reaction of last week did this week I don't think we're going to have that hangover because at the end of the day you got some stuff to build on but you still failed yeah El a no yeah a't nothing to celebrate you ain't popping bottles on that ain't popping bottles on that okay where did you what's your prediction the rest of the season I've said three wins for six months and people thought I was being negative and now I'm positive because I think three wins but I still think that's a good barometer um you could get to four you could be at two but I think it's in three three and a half don't have a clue okay well you've been saying six the whole time yeah well my my my um I I was expecting us be much better against uh you know didn't happen did not uh think they want to get their first excellent point here's the thing about college teams you cannot there every team has that game once a year where it's an inexplicable Gus miles will have two or three but even I mean Nick Sten had those games and it's just it just happens but does this team have three or four of those games or do they have the UNLV because that felt like a hangover from who knows what but if you if you have another two or three of those then that's a problem but well I think I think we got we've got more beatings on the horizon taking more yeah well I mean you haven't beaten anybody so uh no no it's very possible I don't consider tonight a beating we lost yeah we play right with them no you you were 100% in the game I you were you belonged in this game right it's not like you came in here before the game I did not see anybody say you know you play him close it's going to be a good I didn't see anybody say that I saw a lot of they're gonna hang half aund they're gonna do this you belonged here you belonged on this field and it was it was funny to it was funny for me because you know I think back in in our past with our with our good offenses and playing in Conference USA and the American um and I would always think this about U ofh if you let if you let a lesser team hang around hang around and you you miss opportunities that's when you're gonna get beat and OU was right there was right there once we got once we went to halftime and we still got a game it's like okay okay so this is how it feels to be on the other side of that it is look at that man he provided me he's back uh he gave me some uh really solid analysis of this team early in the game uh Star [Laughter] Pizza Batman little plate Star Pizza they got lunch buffet Tuesdays and Fridays they've got lunch specials all week Monday to Friday uh we're going to put a deal together with them the Brad Town deal uh where if you take this deal you will end up with an enormous hand and a little tiny cupcake in it uh and that'll be really good for your uh self-esteem with those big hands uh look at that pizza that's what Brad now see I like the the curled pepperoni cup uh yeah those are Del that is my favorite thing go to New York and that's exactly what I go to is to get that kind of pizza and to see it on this pizza it's also on their their pepperoni uh Pizza they have uh the curled pepperoni and I really like those how of those uh Mike can you make that happen just a big plate we could do it tomorrow night when we have Eddie Nunes here on the other show talking about c yeah and you just I'll talk to him and you just eat pepperonis the entire time so my favorite thing about this place was every time they showed somebody on the jumbo screen it was this like it wasn't W go oh you it was and I saw so many Shir that just said nothing else horns down the words the symbol the everything these people are on a mission and it's all about Texas and I love that I think that's so cool uh sad but you know sometimes cool I don't know I'm not putting that one up I want to but I'm not because yeah answer this question Brad to be dynamic um you know that's that's a good question because we I would like to have seen him have a legitimate option to run a few times um he was doing a really good job of selling the fake and it tells me that a couple of them were straight up just runs he didn't have the option because if he did there was nobody out there I would like to see him be able to run an actual option and add that to the uh mix don't really need the RPO I don't need I don't want that many decisions to be made right just a just a pure option either let it go or pull it and go even if you have to run right behind the the guy um I really like that he was not hesitant today you didn't see him kind to processing 30 things at once right and I mean that was an improvement excuse me uh no but I really just see so many comments about Donovan and I really just do not think today was about Donovan I think it was about colossal mistakes the Muff pot the safety what are you laughing at me gy goes for 2428 yeah um he had the one bad turnover the the the path he tried to no that was terrible a bad yeah I mean he tried to he tried to force that I mean he's too big that and then missing on the uh on the wide open receiver down the right side yes early in the game um I you were just in the spot where he threw that interception where every single possession was critical you just could not give that up and so I think that was that magnified that mistake but I don't he did not lose you this game well they didn't score off of it right we got the ball right back where we had it they was it a three and out or did they attempt a field goal and missed it I don't remember okay so okay but I I don't I I just don't think you can put him on the spot here I mean last week we can we can entertain that thought this week no no not at all and I mean I I don't have any problem criticizing whoever messed up or or did not play to their potential let's let's talk about it but I don't think it's him today I I just don't um I heard that that the broadcast was talking a lot about Demetrius Hunter is that correct uh yeah yeah what is it that they were talking about uh just he was he was doing well he started off I thought he started off a little slow um but they made some adjustments at halftime and he really the things that they were showing um you know he was he was doing well and he was able to get to the second level and make some make some blocks down field which finally got in the way of their their linebacker if nothing else made him at least move from a straight line attack trying to blow somebody up yeah there wasn't that good that it really is well he was all Big 12 last year for a reason uh should have won it without the Muff punt yeah but the Muff punt was the first series of the game I mean you knew it was there the whole time and I mean yeah it was bad I and I mean I don't think there was any question that Muse did not touch that ball he just didn't did he mess up another time yes but you can't I don't think you can put that one on him now when he when he's standing at the eight right here in front of me and backpedal to the three to catch a ball that's bad don't do that but the Muff punt I should he gotten out of the way 100% yes he kind of hesitated he he he flinched about his decision making because of the way he they were kicking into the wind and the ball kind of fluttered and he didn't he didn't make a quick decision and that put him in the way and that's how bad things happen okay did not talk to about plate of pepperoni but did talk about improving the handoff no he did he posted up there that okay I missed it' be tough to do that's a lot that's a lot of those little pepperonis that is true well for you yes I'm kidding I don't want to do I don't want to do that I'd watch I don't to have a heart attack yeah it's gonna happen really said he was very proud of the effort said that that this team played better they they responded they still made critical mistakes I don't give a [ __ ] about effort that's just that's like saying hey you did a really good job of breathing but I'm saying if you compare it to last week I thought played well I thought they played very well I you just can't make they had some grave errors yeah you just can't you can't make those those errors you can't can't have that so all right let's wrap this up it's 11:45 and I got half hour drive and half hour walked in my car did you go they put DTE right next to they put DTE in the garage right next to the stadium and they put me out near a a windmill uh no I did not why I went to a because I went to a little burger place it was pretty good S and B I think it was called uh it was pretty good I was hoping that sign for the placees I saw that was open it was not hadn't been open in like 4 years uh yeah it's horrible I don't I don't I don't even know what to say about that uh okay final thoughts Brad towns final thoughts um El's an L but there's a lot to build on um I'm happy with I'm actually I'm kind of shocked with the defense I'm I'm really shocked of how well I think the defense is played and it's newcomers that are doing it um AJ Hy has been really good once I thought his leg was going to come off when he was out there and on the ground when him and bl M cutchen ran into each other I thought he was done and he was out there like two plays later I thought induk got sniped from somewhere because he just fell I don't know what happened there I would love to go back and watch that one um but kro web and Mike baton and uh Cooper all new guys all guys that are contributing a big big way and so that's that's pretty good and you know I was impressed with what I saw uh from the defense uh that guy was not here surprised kind of surprised he didn't like it but he was not here uh my final thoughts are Star Pizza three locations buffets lunch special the Maryland my favorite try it out they support U ofh athletes they support uh U of shows they support po Jama they support us and we appreciate them so much and they've been great and they send Town's food and they send meat hey and again as good as the food is the people are better I just don't buy that you're not going for the people you're going for the the people are I know but but people I've I've been around long enough that you know we don't know each other but we kind of know each other we saw each other on the streets like hey yeah I know that guy or I know that lady yeah uh so we're I think you put more pieces together today do what I think you more pieces together like no pieces were together last week and a few pieces are together this week we'll see how that builds um I don't I don't I don't know there's like four groups of oh they with that uh journalists out here just doing their their little standups for the news uh there's four three five uh I I I I was pleasantly surprised by what I saw it's still loss and there's still a lot to work on and apparently Donovan Smith is way worse than I thought but you know maybe next week he'll be better tomorrow Eddie Nunes on talking about them cougars we're gonna ask him difficult questions we're gonna ask him what has he seen what does he find is a priority today what needs to happen where do we go from here we're g to talk and uh We're Not Gonna accept platitudes we're gonna we're gonna ask and press for answers which I think he'll give us I have been impressed with him in all my interactions and so
