How to unlock your AT&T Microsoft Surface Duo! 💥💥💥

all right guys welcome back to another video with your man jay so wow back on july 11th i started this journey i bought this att surface duo for 409 on daily steals and the conversation about the duo has always been around don't purchase the atnt version because you know you might not be able to get it unlocked and then i even said that myself i don't think you can get these unlocked well join me on this journey that i started back on july 11th i hope you enjoyed this video well you guys told me that the att version can be unlocked and so what i'm going to do is i'm going to go ahead and purchase one i'm going to see if i can actually get it unlocked i've read your comments and you said hey jay you know it'll work it can be unlocked so let's go ahead and um let's go ahead and check it out man so i'm going to purchase this i'm going to apply the code right here dsm duo it's going to knock off 20 bucks for me the um the uh the 128 gig is gonna be enough plus i'm just buying this probably i'm just gonna check this out see if it unlock and then i'll sell it later or something like that but um nonetheless i'm gonna because there's a portal that you use for a t to get these unlocked for free uh so i'm gonna go ahead and purchase this uh and um uh we'll uh see how this see how this works all right so you can see here i place the order uh i got the 128 gig got the 20 off so we'll see how this goes man hopefully this is legit uh and i can uh uh have another one unlocked and i'll i don't know sell the 256 gig i don't know we'll see but there it is man quick short video i wanted to try this out for myself and see if because i'm told that the atm 2 versions are unlockable now it's just taking a couple days so all you need to do is go to the portal for a tnt this is where you'll go to get your device unlocked so you'll just go through this process right here and you can choose no i'm not an att customer you put in the imei the device hit this go next blah blah blah and then you'll get your confirmation and then it'll tell you uh in a few days normally the process for me has been using this portal uh i've gotten mine unlocked within a matter of a couple of hours but i did run into an issue with my lg velvet those lg velvets that were sent out by uh atnt or lg or whatever they were att versions and they were hard to get unlocked because they were prepaid they gave a prepaid account with that phone so you had to wait three to six months and so my lg velvet is unlocked obviously because i waited i went through this portal and it took them about seven days to actually get it unlocked for some reason because of that but nonetheless this is the portal that you'll use from at t uh and it should be free so we shall see man i hope this turns out good if not i have an att account you know whatever so it'll eventually be unlocked though so let's see how it goes i'll give a follow-up video with you guys after i get it all right guys so here we are i'm going to go ahead and open up this is three days later from that first part of the video this is the atnt version it doesn't say att or anything like that on here but it is in fact the att version i would assume so let's go ahead and get it open but before i submit for my unlock code i'm going to actually try to put a different sim card in here why not so i'm pretty sure everything is the same as all the other boxes that we get here so we'll go ahead and get a sim ejection tool and we will pop a t-mobile sim card in here uh oh there's an att sim card in here so for sure this is an atnt variant uh but i'm gonna go ahead and just try this just in case here it won't hurt to try it let's get my t-mobile sim card this video is uh being recorded uh you're watching all the final cuts for this but um started this process uh at the recording this part of the video i started this process um several several days ago just under a week ago uh and i wanted to see the process for getting the atnt one unlocked because you should just be able to go to the website and get your phone unlocked that should be the process uh but unfortunately i'm hearing several different stories on this device and it says sim network locked so what we're going to do now is we're going to go ahead and just go through the setup or whatever and then i'm going to go ahead and take you over to the computer and i'm going to submit the um i'm going to submit the unlock code so you don't need to see this let's continue on over at the uh at the mac all right here we are so i'm going to go ahead and um request my unlock i'm going to choose no i'm not a customer i'm going to enter in the imei here let's see all right for some for some reason i was having trouble with chrome um getting me past this point right here was telling me um that they're having trouble so i switched to safari i'm just going to verify the address the imei here all right so i was having some issues using chrome to do this so i switched to safari and was able to get it to work for some reason i don't know what to deal with chrome was but chrome wasn't allowing me to use their site to um to do the uh to the unlock so i'm gonna give this 24 hours so again this is day three or four of the recording this video uh i just got the phone i ordered the phone to daily steals for 409 it came three days later uh and here we are day three or day four or whatever uh and i'm doing the unlock portion to see if it actually worked this way there's another step if they don't unlock it you have to go directly to microsoft but you you know the att will give you this like little code or number to um casework to to deal with them so we shall see how this works out but um i hope you're enjoying this video so far all right so at this point in the game um this is still day four so you just watch the unboxing portion and me going onto the website doing the unlock code for the atnt surface duo now at this point right here you have a couple of options you could which you could do you can go ahead and just go to the website put in the information wait for it to come back as rejected by atm t within 24 hours or approved by a tnt within 20 hours like microsoft is going to send them the code or whatever or you can do like i did which is i submitted that information in that part of the video you just saw um a couple hours ago and i went on to microsoft's website and i'll leave a link down below to their help support that's directly you should be able to get directly to a surface duo representative and you need to acknowledge whether or not they're a surface dual representative uh again i haven't gotten any response back from atm t yet on this but i didn't want to wait on that because i've heard that it's going to get rejected and so what microsoft did is they created a special team of people just to do unlocks and get the codes to consumers because they realize we have a ton of at t devices out there and we have a whole bunch of unlocked but we have probably a lot of att devices out there that are getting sold right now at these discounted prices so i guess instead of having this stockpile and a bunch of returns from people they're unlocking them so right now again this is kind of day four-ish or so uh and i decided to just go ahead and submit directly to microsoft as well instead of waiting on atnt to send back my unlock code so keep watching the video and if we're still on day four when i get my lock code the representative from microsoft said i am a certified surface duo representative and there's also a team of people that unlock the surface duos and that's what they do and i was kind of shocked i was like wow he's pretty direct because he knows exactly what's happening because i'm i'm assuming that they're getting an influx of you know calls from people buying these at discounted prices uh and you know they're one of them unlocked which is which makes sense so microsoft is ahead of the game they're making money regardless because they've already got the devices out there sold so um they're unlocking them for people i would assume so uh you can get it unlocked and the reason this video exists is because in one of my previous videos i stated that you just couldn't get them unlocked actually a couple of my videos i stated because at that time that's what was happening they weren't unlocking these devices or they were coming back after weeks of waiting people were waiting they said and heard anything back so apparently one of the users in one of my videos uh showed me a reddit post uh and um they got it they put their trouble ticket on there i didn't use any of that information i just but i did use that post to get the link so credit to that person so you know but ultimately you could have just gone to the microsoft website went to the surface tool and selected get help but that's what you could also do and i'll leave the link down below i'll also leave that reddit post down there as well if you want to reference that if you decide to use that information to call into microsoft to get yours unlocked if you bought an att version now the att version obviously is the more appealing one because of the price but you know i would really highly still recommend if you don't have an att account you know you can do this method uh and they will unlock it but i don't know how long it'll take to unlock it again so now the representative that i spoke to from microsoft surface duo team that special team he said i'll get back to you as soon as i get the unlock code i will email you directly and i was like wow okay so they are they are getting a lot of sales on this device now in the att versions and there's probably a bunch of att versions that weren't sold right now att is giving the device away for free if you do a trade-in they've lowered the price to 700 bucks i believe uh and then 750 for the 256 gig and if you trade in a device they're giving you the device for free but you know i don't i mean if you have to do that do it especially if you're going to stay with atnt that's another thing you may you have the option with with atn t once you you have a little bit more room to wiggle because um you i spent 409 on this thing here uh and it's paid in full i didn't you know i didn't use my atnt account to do any kind of findings i just went ahead and paid for it if you saw on the first part of the video uh and you know i think this is going to be interesting to see how quickly microsoft actually gets back to me or atm t so let's recap before i get out of here you just saw the unboxing portion we're still on that same day for this recording of the part of this video and i put in my unlock request and it said wait 24 hours but i'm not waiting 24 hours i went ahead and contacted microsoft too and i have a ticket with microsoft as well and the gentleman said he's going to escalate it to get it done as quickly as possible so hopefully i'll hear something back within 24 hours from either atnt or microsoft and you'll see it coming up [Music] next [Music] [Music] [Music] so there you have it man uh wow this was a long journey um i literally started this back in jul at the uh july 11th or so when i recorded that first part of the video i honestly didn't believe i was gonna be able to get this unlocked uh i just thought you know what man this is gonna be i made a mistake but the thing for me is though i have an att account as well so it didn't matter i just used it on atnt until my unlock came in uh which just came in a little while ago after recording this video super excited you know uh you know to to know that they actually they're getting them done but they're just getting so many requests and that's what you're gonna have to uh rely on you gotta rely on patience so it took i've asked other people how long it took for theirs and they said ten days uh mine took roughly 16 days from start to finish from when i first contacted them because i got it and um i think i got it in it well well it took about 13 days or so probably or 12 days because i it took about two or three days for the device to get here when i ordered so roughly 12 days or so from from contacting microsoft because i didn't contact them until i actually had the device in hand which is a few days later so look for about two weeks of waiting to get your phone unlocked your device unlocked if you buy an unlocked version because it will happen it can happen and actually called microsoft uh at one point and said hey you know what's the deal and they say you know um that department is really slammed right now we're generating these unlock codes uh and you know you're gonna have to just be patient with us then i got that email afterwards saying uh that they're it's on hold and i thought man i said you know what it doesn't matter because i have an att sim card i don't lose if i can't get this unlocked i'll just use it only on a t and so that's what i've been doing so it's pretty exciting to note that you know they're actually unlocking these and they pretty much they told me at one point we're not even thinking about at t it took a t uh at least seven to ten days to come back and say you know rejected the device doesn't exist or whatever they said and the guy that's that's that's what triggered me to call microsoft because of atnt's email saying it doesn't exist or whatever and i was like what uh so he said no sir you're good the att is just not one to pretty much help us you know they don't want to deal with us even though we're the one generating the codes they can do their part and you know he said they're just not willing to so he said we prefer that customers just contact us directly so if in fact you just purchase your atm t uh surface duo you definitely need to just contact microsoft as soon as you get it you can go ahead and submit to the portal i suggest that you submit to the portal to what a atnt but i i suggest that you just contact uh microsoft asap when you get your device you know because they're gonna ask for that code that att gives that nul code they'll ask for that even though he said he's not even gonna use that he just wanted to confirm that i reached out to atnt first so that was my initial uh representative call with them so i don't know it's good to go um the att surface duos work fine on unlocked carriers or gsm carriers i'll try it again with visible visible if you saw the initial part of the unlock video with the portion the visible sim card would grab service but i'll try it again because i have another phone that i'm going to use my t-mobile sim card in i'll probably just put this back with the att or use an invisible or um us mobile try one of those but ultimately it does work with t-mobile cricket metro all those carry all those gsm providers that are officially gsm providers it works with them so um i hope you guys enjoy the video this is a long process because it's really just me waiting you know checking in waiting doing other stuff checking in waiting but it was fun though so you can in fact unlock the att surface duo and use on any other carrier and some people have reported that theirs works on a verizon account now i don't officially have a verizon account i have the sub counts sub networks so visible us mobile those are the verizon network but they're not verizon official verizon accounts so i cannot confirm that the att unlock works on there but if i do try both sim cards you know i'll give you an updated video on it so right now everything's working good on t-mobile uh and it's good to go i'm happy i did it so save myself 200 plus dollars i got rid of the uh unlocked version and now i'm rocking with my 400 dollar surface duo unlocked brand new got it back on daily stills for 409 or whatever it was it's your man jay if you guys enjoyed i'll see you in the next video take care
