DOWN TO 53! AJ Dillon, Grant DuBose, Kalen King Headline Cutdown Day for Green Bay Packers

Packers have released the following players kicker Anders Carlson QB Sean Clifford wide receiver Grant deos that's okay maybe they can find maybe somewh he can get slipped into the prce squad yeah someone might some might sco up because Jason Wy joined us and talked about the decisions that they had to make at the wide receiver position were interesting because all seven have shown in his opinion legit NFL players yeah uh just to keep going a little bit here for you uh safety Anthony Johnson Jr oh wow seventh round pick kayn king that's surprising very surprising that surprises me that's another seventh round pick gone now I know rashed Walker is a good hit but there's a lot of Misses on this seventh round for oh boy uh Royce Newman not a surprise Michael Pratt um I think that's about it of significance uh the bigger news from a long-term Packer standpoint is Tyler Davis and running back tight end Tyler Davis and running back AJ Dylan are on injur reserve and they are not part of the two that can be brought back designated for return so it looks as if AJ Dylan's season as a Green Bay Packer is done yeah it it's done he's for sure done in 2024 once as you land on that injured reserve not designated for return that's it your season's completely over and it makes sense right because the if a marquee player on the Packers team gets hurt and you need to put him on IR but maybe it's a six we injury that's one of your two guys to do that so it makes sense to keep those two options of ir designated return completely open and and when you're on IR an 80099 3776 if you have any questions about what's going on with ir we have Brad nortman who played in the NFL for six years and is very well versed in all of this plus one thing I wanted to say about the AJ Dylan thing is that would lend us to believe that uh Marsh Lloyd who has not been healthy will be healthy and will not have to start on IR right so let me start with ir so IR is basically you are tucked away with a medical designation right you're not involved in practices you're not involved in Meet meetings you're not involved in any game plan land usually even your meal time doesn't even sync up with the rest of the team it's going to be Steven Glansberg eating alone he's like Steven's Glansberg that's very good from Super Bad Ben it's it's a very weird existence you're sort of it's you feel a little bit isolated but it's not purposeful isolation because you have to get your workouts in you have to get your visits to the training room in and you have to do those in times when the other active players aren't there so it's sort of purposeful that your your um schedule yings and yangs op opposite of the team but you need that based on availability so to me that says I don't want to speculate on the injury but usually that means the injury is significant enough that they couldn't just release him with an injury designation say AJ Thanks for the Memories your injury is worth eight games so here's eight games worth of your contract we're our separate ways it probably is a significant enough injury that it was representative of the whole year now what you said Ben of Marshon Lloyd I think that's exciting for Packer fans because he was a guy with a lot of potential lot of excitement pretty high draft pick for a running back so to me if I'm looking at the Packer season if Maron Lloyd is healthy give me the Josh Jacobs Marshon Lloyd combo more so than the AJ Dylan one I think it's more effective for the offense yeah I mean at end of the day AJ Dylan had an opportunity to show what he was unfortunately it looks like injuries have cutting his season short which sucks for him because you're saying that he can't even play for another team so say he feels better after eight weeks he can't play for another team this year which is definitely disappointing for AJ Dylan but overall for the Green Bay Packers the bright side is if this is correct that means Marshon lyd the guy who you drafted high will be available for you early on in the season which is good for the Green Bay Packers because at the end of the day it's about guys who are going to elevate this football team and allow for you to be as competitive as possible and allow for you to be as dynamic as possible and we haven't been able to really see what Marshon lyd can do yet due to injuries but I do believe come you know halfway through the season we'll be able to see how talented marshan lyd is yeah and 80099 377 76 is Eric Chimes and Ben quote a lot of Misses in the seventh round for old boy gy is that considered a Miss I think it's a combination of also Michael Pratt I mean look goody seventh round yeah I I know but again you still like you could what goody has been doing a great job is we have not talked enough about the first round draft picks right that has been something the last three years where it's been Quay Walker Devonte Wyatt Lucas vaness the jury is still out you can go to Eric Stokes and I know I'm missing one in in in there as well the one you're missing uh he's the highest picked quarterback in the NFL yeah I hear you stro we're talking about the last two years the last two last two three years of first round draft picks have not fared well for goody in terms of making an a strong impact instant impact you want them to do right now we he's found value in other places and I'm giving him props for that but then they just traded another seventh round pick for uh Malik Willis so again seventh round hit Rasheed Walker Miss on a couple I mean it's again it all evens out but I'm saying right now as it stands Michael Pratt Ken kin King it there was some optimism of bringing a guy in who had a very high potential and it didn't pan out which is what what happens but again you can still say it's a miss when he doesn't make the roster yeah it's definitely a Miss but it's not a big Miss I mean a dra seventh round versus undrafted it really doesn't matter I would say sometimes undrafted may have a better Advantage because they get to pick and choose where they feel like they can compete the most probably for a position so you might have a guy who's undrafted might have a chance to make the roster and they feel confident in it I guess I'm surprised by kin King specific spefically because I remember when the Packers made that pick I don't want to I don't remember who it was exactly but some ESPN national guy said that is the steal of the draft right there I remember that was that um I'm blanking on the name I mean point taken yeah so so I thought like oh my gosh goody did it again so not even make the team well let's let's see again these are you got to clear waivers right some of these guys are going to clear waivers and they'll practice and they'll have an opportunity right that's why I we got to wait and see yes they did not make the team initially but some things you are maneuvering behind the scenes and you expect the guy to be able to contribute maybe take a red shirt year and build up some things and get and again I can't believe how much the kicker position has been talked about like I can't remember of all my years of being on the air how much you've talked about like the kicking situation other than I know Mason Crosby had a bad year but then he did bounce back and then play two more solid years for the Green Bay Packers but he had that type of season five years prior to him having a bad season bounceback so again he had a bigger leash you dra Anders Carlson pretty early for a kicker I think it's a fifth round pick for that fifth round pick it's been JK Scott uh who didn't hit as a punter they drafted a Long Snapper in that same same draft now Anders Carlson gy should be banned from Special Teams picks in the draft here's what I'll say I'm okay with goody taking flyers on guy in the fifth and sixth round if it's a quarterback if it's a cornerback like kin king take take a flyer on a guy get make it be highrisk high reward in the seventh round no big deal but if you're drafting a specialist I'm a specialist myself if you're drafting a specialist in the fifth round sixth round that's the equivalent of drafting like a quarterback in the first round like you can't miss you really can't because that's a high investment man you just compared yourself to a first round quarterback in in in for the position I know but yeah I have like a first round quter you're exactly right when you draft a specialist you expect for that specialist to be able to be somebody that is a legit that's that's what because again approval a lot of these kickers and punters in the NFL are undrafted guys not because they're not talented it's because they're you're kind of a diamond significant than other positions and so the the fact that you spent this type of capital you sp no but for real you spent this type of capital draft picks on a guy like you just talked about whether it's punter whether it's long staber whether it's kicker you expect this guy to be the franchise guy unfortunately with goody this has not been the case for the Green Bay Packers so in that sense the those are wasted draft well why I brought it up is because again like I know I listed off guys who are no longer with the team there is a guy with the team who also wasn't Uber impressive in Greg Joseph like as it stands right now he is the Packers kicker now as Kyle has discussed and done his research right he's like o who's I need to go see all available who's in the kick B see how my boy Braden's doing yeah I mean like who's in the kicker battle like on other teams that might get you know released that could end up being the kicker for the Green Bay Packers I mean like again I don't think this journey is over right you don't go from uh Andre Carlson to Greg Joseph both kicking 80% in training camp and preseason games to feeling confident that you have your guy for the 17 Game season moving forward
