this is the tan talk radio network this is Hall of Famer mon Irvin uh and and you're talking sports with Randy Harris I believe when we got that liner Monty Irvin was the oldest living Hall of Famer wow so so it was definitely uh you know some time ago all right I'm pretty sure I don't want to go out on a limb but I'm pretty sure that our next conversation is going to last long than the entire career of of Zachary's professional fights I'm pretty sure of that because you mean because he wins him so quick we'll talk about that in a second so let's go to the phone lines I'm I'm even nervous to to welcome the Savage Zachary Reese to the show Zachary how are you I'm good guys thanks for having me on we we appreciate your time I've covered the UFC since UFC won I don't do a lot of research and all that kind of stuff so what I'm about to say I could be wrong I don't know of any time I've ever talked to somebody whose fights have not all of the fights have not gone into the second round that's crazy yes sir I think all my fights uh it's under 14 minutes so less than one uh regular fight um but yeah I can't complain man it's been going good you know and I think it's just a testament to kind of how I approach fighting and I've always approached fighting you know I don't think about points or winning rounds I just uh think about getting those check mates in every position I can I I know this is going to be a stupid question a trainer that used to train me here in in St Pete you know would win a lot of fights uh he's a I don't know 412 degree black belt or whatever and I asked him the same thing and and and I mean this seriously but I know it's a stupid question have you ever like I can't believe I did all that training I did three months to get ready for this fight and the fight lasted 20 seconds yeah I joke around with my wife all the time because the amount of cardio I do and I'm like man I I've yet to really need it um like even this morning man I just checking my heart rate and I was like uh 39 beats a minute so I've done so much cardio so much but you know of all things in fighting man you want to definitely be overprepared and then uh go in there and Ace that test now is one of the reasons why you're fighting so soon it's only been two months since your last fight uh is that because you took no damage in that last fight and you're just ready to go yes sir and I'm trying to make some money you know what I mean oh yeah strick lot of iron tot I took no damage in that fight and yeah I went back out to Thailand uh it's my fourth trip out there spent a month out there got in really good shape learned some really cool stuff and just ready ready to go for Saturday I literally can't wait was it the last fight and I could be wrong wasn't it like only the the 22nd fight yes sir 22nd uh knockout um you know and I went in there too I was fighting Julian Marquez he's a he's a veteran in the UFC you know I think it was like his eth UFC fight and you know I went out there kind of you know prepared for a war but uh looking for the kill looking for the Finish you know listening to you I I would assume you you're not going to allow yourself to do this but how difficult is it you know to to not fall into yeah i' i' fought for 14 minutes I have 62 fights I'm going to take this day off or I'm not going to push as hard or how difficult is it to keep the mindset you know like every fight is the most important fight of your life you know motivation never been an issue for me um I even my amateur man I took so serious I trained so hard and I really love this grind I love the um I love I love the hard work that it takes to get to this level and um this is all I do man you know all I do is train and spend time with my family I I have no Hobbies anymore just 100% my my whole life is about fighting when you go to Thailand do you mainly train with westerners or do you train with people from Thailand so I've been doing U this last trip specifically I did a lot privates private lessons with the ties but yeah as far as my partners man it's almost exclusively Russians it's it's pretty funny uh chch and Russians dagani guys and uh I I really really enjoy sparring with and training with those guys because they're very intense you know what I mean it's uh there's no light days and they're always trying to win win rounds especially with me being in the UFC you know they're always trying to uh you know the when the exchanges on me and it definitely sharpens me what's something that that maybe the fans you know don't know about you whether it's other sports you like or you know fan of a of a particular musican or whatever yeah well you know I love country music and stuff I figur people probably figure that out but uh you know uh love my Astros man watch the Astros pretty regularly so um you know yeah that's about it man I mean I like I used to love fishing I used to fish a lot more and stuff but you know now it's just uh family time and training that's pretty much it so you don't fish at all because I got a great fishing opportunity for you oh I'm ready to go fish man if you invite me out you know because UFC's coming to to Tampa in December so I would love to come to Florida and and fight on that card well yep we we we are in Tampa uh AI can get you fish in The Lakes at Walt Disney World um they'll take you out you know obviously they know where the fish are stocked there you know at Disney as well as we have captains here in the Tampa Bay Area that'll take you either deep sea shark fishing bow fishing what ever you want to do if you come to town oh I'll definitely take y'all up on that man bow fishing bow fishing yeah that's let's go that's when you fight bow nickel oh so many comedians are out of work and I got one sitting here with me are you familiar with I think it's called the turkey Hut in Houston I am yeah I actually think they went out of business did they how how is that possible I don't know man that IRS will get you if you mess around I don't I'm not sure exactly how but yeah UFC was in Houston we went to that the line was 2 and 1 half hours long and people were in it waiting now I'm smarter than most and smarter than you know people give me credit for I sat in the car I called a takeout order I got it in 15 minutes and I sat in the car and ate it with Scott Peterson from MMA Weekly so you just have to outthink uh you know everybody else you mentioned your family do you have children yeah I have two little girls so a 2-year-old and a four-month old wow congratulations thank you when we finish I always you know you know we we have your address and we send you know thank you gifts but I'd like to find out when when Fighters have families and have children CU we happen to have a a sponsor that makes these fantasy pets from uh digital computers and they're the coolest things ever so I'm going to send you two of those as well um for for both of your children so that's very cool man thank I'll send you guys some merch back to uh you know I'm in Shiner Texas man there's only 2,000 people in the whole town but we're known for our beer and I'm sure it's made its way out to Florida oh sweet but um I'll I'll send you guys some merch too just so you know I'm a big Astros fan too but for different reason I I'm sure you know how to bang a a stick no no cuz I'm short and I love that Jose Altuve so good at his height and so amazing and I'm I'm just like every time he hits a home run I can't believe it I'm so happy yeah future Hall of Famer for sure I heard talking about banging on a trash can that's allegedly I ignored it I ignored it Z did you notice I didn't even I I just ignored it it it it is alleged um I I've been heavily involved in baseball I was the bat boy for the Cardinals when I was in high school we just had uh I don't know if you know who Brad Penny is he played in the majors for 19 years um so we're talking a lot of baseball we talked a lot of Unwritten rules and all that which I don't know any sport that has more Unwritten rules than baseball oh yeah it's it's it's I mean dude the Astros a couple years back they cut a center fielder just for in a home run you know what I mean it's uh it's uh yeah yeah baseball baseball's something else man I just wish we'd get like a Macho Man Randy Savage or something personality in baseball you know a lot of the baseball guys man they they're just they're kind of dry you know in the interviews why why did you mention why did you mention Randy pafo um a a very good friend of mine did my video to try to get on Survivor was it cuz he played for the white socks or because you're a wrestling fan uh you know what I surprisingly did not watch very much wrestling growing up I know if people had to uh make assumptions about me they'd probably think I was watching wrestling and you know fighting for beers in the trailer park or something but actually didn't watch a ton of wrestling growing up so where where was the the Randy you know what do you know about macho man interviews honestly not that much to be honest you know I mean I think Stone Cold's probably my favorite but it's just cuz he's from about 40 minutes from where I live uh I missed a lot of that night that 90s early 2000s wrestling and really I was watching baseball a lot we we lived in San Diego for a little bit so uh you know I got to catch like the tail end of like Ricky Henderson's career and U you know see Trevor Hoffman pitch and stuff like that so baseball really was you know a huge part of my life until until I found MMA when you get a chance Google Macho Man Randy Savage cream of the crop and that's the funniest video that you'll ever see and Randy at his best it it's hilarious you know it's funny that you say that though about baseball personalities I I've interviewed a lot of celebrities in my career I worked at Fox I worked at Spike TV and I was interviewing uh Derek Jeter and I was so excited because I'm such a big Yankees fan and he was the most boring interview I've ever done and not because he was a bad person it was because he's so humble you know and I'm here I'm trying to like set him up oh you're you're Hall of Famer you're this you're that he's like uhhuh well you know I try and I'm like come on Derek I'm alive right here you got to help me out and then he has this uh foundation called the turn two Foundation which brings Little League to the inner city schools and he was promoting this and I'm like all right I'll throw him softballs about his foundation I'm like so tell me what's it like to bring baseball to the inner city to these kids he goes well you know it's good and I was like oh my goodness I'm like back to you in the studio this ain't going anywhere speaking to back to you let's get back to talking about Saturday uh give me your thoughts on on Jose and and what we should uh look forward to you know I I usually don't watch a lot of footage on my opponents and and Jose is kind of the same I watched his fight once on contenders I think he's tough man but you know I don't think tough's enough to beat me and I just I just think I'm GNA outclass him and out skill him uh you know he's coming down from 205 so I think maybe you know it's first time for him cutting that weight but you know I fought at 205 as an amateur a lot of the guys I fought are at 205 so um yeah I just I just think I'm going to outclass him a friend of mine in my producer gets mad every time I bring this up Marcus Jones he played for the Tampa Bay Bucks he uh was on The Ultimate Fighter with Wes Sims and Brendan sha and all those and Mark I'm sorry baby is what they called him yeah big baby nicest guy in the world um he's now a um a Salesman of medical tools and he's in on operations in surgeries in case they need like a particular clamp or screw and he's got his all his tools there and just the nicest guy ever still petrified to fly but he once told me that he didn't like football he was a number one draft pick of the bucks he goes I'm just good at it I know that you're good at what you do how much do you love this sport of mixed martial arts you know I was just talking to my coaches yesterday about that about um you know in MMA gyms and stuff we have so many guys come through that want to be Fighters maybe they're amateur Fighters they win fights they lose fights and uh I love fighting that's the thing like I want to fight Jose I don't I don't necessarily you know my dream wasn't to just get attention and Glory or anything like that like I want to fight I cannot wait for Saturday and uh I love this I love this uh I'm not going to curse but you know I love this stuff man it's uh nothing makes me feel more alive nothing makes me feel more tuned in and it sounds corny but if I was born 800 years ago I know I'd be swinging a sword somewhere and I think this is probably the closest I'm going to get to it in this day and age I'm so pump for Saturday I I I cannot wait for you to get in the Octagon Zachary thank you very much for your time we have your address going to send you the care package from fantasy pets for your two children also a box from eight-man strong and some stuff from bucked up energy drink as well thank you guys so much it great talking to y'all to again soon that is Zachary ree this guy is a Savage I'm looking forward to that fight and I as promised that conversation was longer than his entire fights in the professional almost in his amateurs as well but I bring that up cuz we typically go 8 or 10 minutes all right let's goe to our final break of the afternoon this is knockout radio brought to you by Staff Zone 8man strong and bucked up energy drink I I'm James Lofton and you know who you are on the other side of the dial and you're talking sports with Randy Harris this is the T
