Can Derby County Progress In The EFL Cup! Barrow (A) Preview!

off the back of defeat Derby County head to Barrow in round two of the efl cup and it's time for Paul War to see some different bodies in the squad or will we now there is a lot of talk about potential transfers coming in before that game we're going to have to say a few names and think of a few things because I've got no idea who that one could be we're also going to have a little bit of a deep dive into what happened in in the Watford game what happened in the middlesburg game and why I think Derby County need to have a serious look at their style of play and whether that means changing Paul War a little bit later down the line that is a completely different story but these are all things which I think we need to discuss heading into this game versus Barrow but before we get when they drop now Derby County head into Barrow off the back of another defeat and it's the second defeat of the Season both defeats have come away from home to Blackburn and Watford now Derby County heading to this game as favorites as you would expect a championship side versus Barrow it's one of the those for me and no disrespect to Barrow at all that Derby County should be looking to win comfortably like realistically it should be a 230 job now I understand people are going to say oh but football's unpredictable you can't guarantee anything but we have a squad capable of beating Barrow two or 3-0 in my opinion that's just my take now a lot of people may disagree some people may agree but for me I think a lot needs to change around Derby County's style of play we saw it versus middlesbor we saw it versus Watford this giving up possession and letting the opposition have the ball I think is a really really bad idea in the championship now if we go back to the chest field game uh previously in this cup competition it was a little bit different uh Derby County did have a little bit more of the ball But ultimately weren't really very threatening it's going to be really interesting to see how this one develops over the course of uh Tuesday night now uh there is reports that Dar County bringing in a signing before that day so we're going to have to hope and pray that that comes in because I do think we need an extra body especially Midfield even at the back if you look at how light we are at the moment now if we just take a little bit of a deeper dive into Barrow let's see where they're currently sitting in their division they're currently sitting fourth in League two with two wins and a loss six points uh five goals scored one goal conceded uh their only loss came to car now I I'm not saying that Barrow are a bad side um at all I'm not saying that we just have a little scroll through some of their players Theo Vaso is someone that I recognize uh and it's like for me I'm not saying that Derby County should go into this game expecting it to be easy absolutely not but I think if Derby County perform to the best of their ability I think Derby County should win this game quite comfortably um and it's one of those for me where yes Barrow are doing a good job in their division obviously sitting fourth place as I've just mentioned if you want to take a little bit more of a deeper look into their season so far but it's just for me it's just one of those and I just think Derby County should be winning this game I think with the players we have at our disposal even our backup players are better than League 2 level and I certainly think that there's a lot that needs to be discussed because I think Paul War over the past two championship games middlesbor and Watford has obviously gone into this Siege Underdog mentality and you can only out so many results in my opinion and we got one of them versus uh Middlesboro obviously um against Watford we wasn't so lucky now obviously heading into this game we are still missing some key players no idea what's going on with Cory blacket Taylor his name hasn't been mentioned over the last week um obviously cashing is still out uh he'll miss this one but should be back for Bristol uh Rooney is he out till April is he out till November there's loads of different conflicting reports about what his injury actually is so we'll have to wait and see what happens with that and Kane Wilson is out until at least after the international break so those players will not play uh Ben Osborne also is on the sidelines at the moment uh with I think it was a calf injury Paul War said post match yesterday um which is dis a disappointing loss but hopefully he'll be back for Bristol City Paul one did make that uh sort of the aim um Josh Vickers is also out with a groin injury so we'll probably see Zeta Strom taking the field again uh now if we do look at uh we'll go with the last four results because Derby's uh 2--1 win over real valid was a friendly uh obviously as you can see both sides sort of in uh different types of form Derby County one two lost two Barrow with won three and lost one now there is some players in this Barrow side that you should be uh looking out for we'll just go and take a look through their statistics to show you who they they are now obviously the likes of Dom tord L Elliot newbie with three assists already this season uh if we just scroll through their Match ratings Ben Jackson is the highest average at 7.51 Ken Spence and Rory fely not far behind now uh obviously um a lot of these players are quite clearly playing in that League 2 Division um and it's one of those for me where Derby County have just got to be really careful not to have a banana skin because I think that is what's capable in this game and if we do just for a second hop on over to Derby County and uh we just obviously look at some of our numbers now obviously it doesn't look great when like your goal scorers are coming from uh the defensive areas of the pitch and obviously Kaden Jack picked up a goal um and an assist as well nathani menes Lang has two assists it's one of those for me where I just think Darby County are sort of we're just a bit disappointed at the moment and I do think there is going to be a potential where if the style of play doesn't change it's going to get a little bit toxic especially when you look at the fixtures we're heading into next you've obviously got Bristol City and Cardiff both at home in my opinion at home we should be looking to win our games I think we need at least 30 to 35 points at home over the course of this season if we want to stay up um cuz that means we only need like 15 to 20 points to stay up like away from home so uh then obviously you going into Sheffield United Norwich Sunderland QPR all games which you probably aren't going to expect Derby to get much out of so we go into these two games after uh the Barrow game and uh it's sort of we need a good result here to sort of propel us into that game now let's go and take a look into my team predictions then we're going to say a few words on uh the likes of Ben medical table now this is the team that I think should play uh it's not necessarily sort of uh going out style of play type of thing it's sort of these players need minutes so that they can be effective for us when they're coming off the bench um or if they've even got to step up now uh Ryan nambi has essentially played the last two 90 minutes K's had a really good start uh David oo I think he's played 0 in practically every game so far this season uh so I just think it's time for a little bit of a change now I still think Zeta Strom should start I think he he built in quite well during the Watford game obviously had a little bit of a wobble um towards the back end of the first half where he made a bit of an error uh but ultimately they happen in football luckily we we weren't punished from it um I think the back four should have two changes forif coming in at left back Joe Ward coming in at right back with Bradley and Nelson staying through uh the two s half positions now I've bought in Joe Ward because I think Joe Ward can be effective for us this year I think he has some really good passing ability and he's probably one of the best crosses in the league uh but his problem is defensively uh is not quite as sound as the likes of Ryan dambi or a Kane Wilson so the sort of question mark on sort of where he fits in now I do think he can play further forward um but I think in this game we've got to keep a couple of players who uh can impact the performance um I've bought in Craig forif just because I still think he's the best left back at the club um nothing against celder I just think forif could do equally what he's done um so it's one of those for me in the Midfield I've obviously kept Kaden Jackson in um Dro Mendes Lang out because Mendes Lang looked a bit out of it towards the back end of the last game and um well towards the time he came off in the last game and it's one of those for me where Mendes Lang is one of those players where when he's getting on the ball and he's being impactful it doesn't ever seem to die off uh during a game which is probably why he then dies off towards the back end of his season but then in a game like yesterday where we barely had the ball all his energy was wasted out of possession and he was then ineffective so um and I also think that mes Lang should be playing on the right rather than the left I just don't think he's that effective over on the left I don't think he's effective through the middle but at the moment Kaden Jackson's playing really well as well so you can't really take Jackson out so I've sort of put baras in on that left hand side to sort of swap with Mendes Lang give Mendes Lang a little bit of a breather I've gone with the Midfield two with keeping Adams in there and bringing in Liam Thompson I think Liam Thompson's had a good few spells on the pitch I thought he was excellent versus Chesterfield I thought he deserved an opportunity versus Borah uh didn't quite get it obviously he did come on and then he came on yesterday as well uh IU Adams um is one of those players for me he's going to break up the play you know what he's going to do you know what he's going to bring um not really a player who I want to take out of this game I think it could be important versus a barrow side who are probably going to look to play a little bit differently to how they've played so far this season and a probably going to expect Derby County to have more of the ball now I have then gone with the front two of dejon brown and J Yates because if Dej Brown isn't going out he needs to get minutes and I was quite surprised he didn't come on yesterday versus Watford obviously an attacking option um and then obviously Jerry AES I think needs to sort of build in and understand the style of play and things like that now obviously there's a little bit of an adjustment here but you can obviously adjust this so it stays similar to how he was playing on uh Saturday afternoon because Yates could drop in as the 10 bar and Jackson as the two wide men so you could still play the exact same system um just getting extra minutes in the legs now I have a few feelings about uh the situation at the moment at Derby County obviously we are only four games in there a long way in the season to go this is only game five but shall we get into talking about my problems with the style of play now there's a lot to be said about Paul War's style over the course of the last 12 months and I think ESP esally over the course of the last 10 days now versus Blackburn yes we weren't defensive we weren't cautious and uh it's probably one of the reasons why uh we lost that game maybe you'd probably argue I don't know um but for me I think uh we could have done better in that game anyway the goals we conceded were defensive errors um we didn't really create a great deal from open play in that game it was a bit of a difficult game to watch now going into middles obviously everyone expected us to lose and we did really well to Come Away with a victory but 29% possession and I'm not saying we should go toe-to-toe with these teams and then obviously the Watford game yesterday we tried to do the same thing as we did against Bor and that just isn't going to work um you can't consistently play like that and Come Away with three points in my opinion now looking back at the Watford game yesterday when you sit off and you allow allow these technical teams to create chances nine times out of 10 they're going to score in my my opinion that's what's going to happen like over the course of a game if you give a team that many chances they're going to score I think middleb were unlucky not to score I think obviously don't get me wrong we defended really really well but if we played that game 10 times over in that capacity in that style we score after 15 they probably score three or four after that Watford did really well in breaking us down defensive laps gives them uh their first goal the second goal was a bit unlucky with uh the rebound but it's one of those for me where we should be doing better then we come out and play and create chances and I think the big problem that we have is we don't create chances until it is too late and for me it's one of those things where at some point Paul Warner's got to take the handbreak off we've got to go for it and we've got to try because obviously right now what we're sitting on three points out of three games now would I have taken three draws from the first three games of this season yes proba probably um I think I I predicted the the loss to Watford um I predicted the win to Middlesboro I did think it would have been a better performance versus Blackburn I think I put all together we' get Five Points uh throughout the opening month of August um so we're two points away from what I predicted and what I thought was good a good start um so we'll have to see what happens in the Bristol City game um but I think going into that Bristol City game if we're going to sit off and allow play players like Max bird Jason Knight Scott twine or to get on the ball we're going to have massive issues they've shown that they can score goals and they've shown that they can create chances and I just don't think we can sit off now I'm not saying that Paul War should be sacked don't get me wrong but there needs to be a slight nudge towards changing the style of play because at the moment it's not going to consistently win those games will it win us 10 over the season maybe um but is it going to keep is 10 wins going to keep us up this season probably not we probably then need uh 15 16 draws at minimum so it's one of those for me where you're sort of looking to get 47 48 points this season to stay up obviously last season it I think it was like 50 51 something like that but it's just going to get harder and harder as the season progresses to pick up those points now I feel bad especially for Kenzo Hine who came in as a technical player and ultimately hasn't been able to show his technical abilities because the ball is bypassing Midfield and I think the only way you can get a player like that to show what he's truly capable of is getting them on the ball we go back to players like Ral Morrison and Tom Lawrence Tom ins Harry Wilson Mason Mount the best thing we could do for those players now I'm not saying Kenzo is one of those but the best we could do for those players he get them on the ball that's where they could show they were effective and the way we're playing at the moment doesn't get them on the ball so I am intrigued to see how we play against the likes of Bristol how we play against Cardiff because if it is this sit in defend deep then I do think we're going to struggle this season because I think we've got to do more than what we're doing uh but it's one of those for me where I just think Paul Warner's got to do better with what he's got I'm not saying we have the greatest team in the championship but I do think we have a team that is capable of staying up don't get me wrong yes we need a few bodies and we're missing a few for injury but I think in that Watford game the game was there for the Tak in we was one n up within 3 minutes and then we had what was it 35% possession over the rest of the game so for me I just think if you go into try and win games let's try um we were never going into that game expecting to win Watford haven't dropped a point All Season haven't lost a game all season or even drew a game all season so it's one of those for me where you was never expecting to win the game so let's go and try and win it um we had the opportunity we went one nil up and we sort of fell back now you can obviously let me know your opinions down in the comments I think it's a very difficult one to judge because I think we need to try a bit I think we need to try a little bit more in attempting to get those wins and you can obviously let me know your thoughts down in the comments uh but yeah heading into this game game I'm expecting Derby County to Come Away with a 3 nil win I think we've got to keep a clean sheet boost that confidence of the defense and I think it would be Mega for Jerry H dejon Brown to pick up a goal each um I do think we have the capabilities of winning this game three n it's just whether a style
