to get down to their 53 man roster is important time that means roster moves are flying so let's start with some of the moves that happen with the Champs in Kansas City well the Chiefs have a number of wide receiver decisions to make and before they subtract from that room they added a familiar face today signing Juju Smith Schuster to a deal a minimum deal but bring him back to a familiar spot and it's somebody else that Patrick Mahomes knows one more added Target for number 15 and there are a lot of names to track and chart the next few days that could be traded that could be released we've got a bunch of chiefs wide receivers you got John mey in Houston Allan Robinson with the Giants Malik Willis with the Titans Taylor HEI with the Falcons some big names there that are worth tracking as teams get ready to pair their rosters down from 90 to 53 that's 1,84 transactions here coming up in the days ahead and then of course we go to the Dolphins who placed a few players today on the physically unable to perform list Isaiah win Bradley chub go to pup that means that they will miss a minimum of four games that's a loss on the offensive line a loss on the defensive line don't know that either one surprises Miami it is what they expected and fortunately for them last week the Dolphins got Jaylen Phillips back and the Browns also are going to leave Nick chub on the physically unable to perform us to open the season making him and ible to play the first four games this season they still expect him to come back and contribute at some point this year but they know how serious that injury that he suffered last year was and they want to make sure they take their time and get him right and that he's as close to being healthy as he can be when he does return this season which is expected it just will not be during the first four games of the Season yeah rooting for him to get back out there and it'll be fun to see him play whenever he does again but it is the reality the chub's likely out for a stretch right plus deshun Watson coming off an injury without seeing any preseason action Mina what's the biggest thing that Kevin stefansky needs to figure out in terms of scheme with this offense yeah I think they're still figuring out what the identity is with deshun Watson which sounds wild given that he's been on the team now for so long but obviously um has not played a lot of football you saw last year when they made the change to Joe Flaco really what I think the truest expression of a Kevin stefansky offense is explosive plays uh coming from that under Center play action that's not what deshun Watson does best I thought it was very telling Laura some of the hires they made the season were very telling going out bringing Ken dorsy from Buffalo as the offensive coordinator and then dipping into the college game and bringing in Tommy Reese as their pass game coordinator uh reading the tea leaves what that suggests to me is that they want to have a more robust RPO game H to come off of deshun Watson being in the gun I I don't know if it'll work but I feel like they're trying to figure out okay here's our quarterback in 2024 what does he do West best part of me how can we build an efficient Run game off of that and that feels like the starting point there's two ways to create chunk explosive big plays in football really number one is you have an unbelievably talented one-on-one wide receiver and you just get him the football number two are the play action game and to mea's point that was the real fundamental difference between this offense with DeShawn and Joe flacko and I don't know how this offense is going to be explosive not being in the play action game Amari is awesome but he's not that Julio Jones type of one-on-one wide receiver and if you go back to last year and rewatch some of the games the Tennessee game that Deshawn played solid in the Arizona game that Deshawn played solid in there still isn't a high level of play action pass success it is a little bit more of maybe your broken play here or a dink and dunk offense there and quick passing game and so we get asked all the time like what do we expect it's the only team in the league that I'm really it's really hard to say anything yeah you know definitively I don't know who they're going to be scheme-wise and I just don't know who Deshawn is as a player load alone in whatever scheme they're going to deploy yeah and on a much simpler level right Watson and chub have been on the field together for just 150 plays in the last two seasons when we talk about their two best offensive players sources told our own Adam schfer that now makes him the second highest paid non-quarterback in NFL history the guy who broke the news Adam Sher is back with us now and Adam Dallas will have CD lamb back after this massive deal got done just moments ago what more can you tell us this is a situation where we are getting close to the regular season Shay and so with that being the case obviously talks are going to be ramped up I would think with every unresolved situation across the league most notably CD lamb this was not a difficult deal to figure out and get done and so with talks ramping up with the regular season now being 13 days away it was time to get serious and it was time to get this deal done Dallas always wanted to resign CD he always wanted to be back in Dallas they just could not come to a meeting on a common number well today they figured that out 4-year deal $130 $6 million $38 million signing bonus they get the deal done CD lamb is tied contractually to Dallas for the next 5 years and Dallas will have CD lamb in time for its regular season opener in Cleveland against the Browns and again we're just at that time of the year where these things inevitably are going to ramp up and when there's a sense of urgency usually things are more likely to happen that's what happened here with CD lamb and getting a deal done with the Dallas Cowboys uh just as note too Mike McCarthy is scheduled to meet with the media around 4:00 Eastern today obviously he'll address this and cidi lamb and getting the deal done cidi now has 13 days to get up caught up with his team before their season opener as Chey mentioned against the Browns but obviously this usually has a trickle down effect and there are some other wide receivers out there that are waiting for their deals to get done namely Jamar Chase in Cincinnati how does this affect him shefy listen I think that they're looking for just one more marker of what Jamar Chase would be worth now yesterday he returned to practice and he did so my understanding is as a sign of good faith as they continue to try to work towards a deal well now there's another deal that they can look at and say CD lamb is getting on average $34 million per year what is Jamar chasworth the difference is is that CD LM had one year left on his deal for a team that openly wanted to resign him whereas Jamar Chase has 2 years left on a deal for a team that had president come out and say he would prefer to wait until the off season but the sides are talking and you would like to think that they could figure out a way to get something done to make Jamar Chase happy meanwhile in San Francisco there's the Brandon iuk situation that has lingered on throughout the course of the summer there have been various points where it looked like he could resign it looked like he could be traded to Cleveland it looked like he could be traded to Pittsburgh it looked like he could be back in San Francisco and still on August 26th no resolution no resolution right now in sight now again we're at a critical juncture on the NFL calendar the 49ers open their season two weeks from tonight in San Francisco against Aaron roders and the New York Jets and we wait to see if they can figure out a way to somehow Bridge the differences that have existed throughout the offseason into training camp that have prevented auk from being out on the practice field okay and auk has asked for a trade obviously that remains to be seen we'll wait on auk in the meantime let's go back to the AFC North cuz we still have quarterback questions that are going on in Pittsburgh right now in terms of who's going to start week one what more are you hearing about the Pittsburgh Steelers and their quarterback competition well sh Mike tomin has said that he would like to announce his decision at the end of this work week later on and again the signs continue to point to Russell Wilson as the starter and I think people around the league believe it would be a surprise if Wilson were not the opening day starter for the Steelers but the fact of the matter is Justin field still is there and this is a question that even if Russell Wilson is starting on opening day it doesn't mean that this question certainly is going to go away unless Russell Wilson plays the way that he expects to and the Steelers are playing winning football if that happens then you will not hear much more conversation about Justin fields and what he could bring but the moment that there are any struggles losses defeats that's when these conversations typically get back going again for now Mike Tomlin would like to make his decision public at the end of this week and I think people across the league believe that Russell Wilson is in the lead seat for that starting quarterback job okay so if Russell Wilson is the guy he'll be accustomed to this two games on the road to start their season there in Pittsburgh they're at
