[Applause] w e Miami off hurricane offense makes it way onto the field to start this game and here's the manand they rally around and he has earned that type of respect David you d right you earn it by doing it and he's done it at such a high level everyone believes in this young man in Palmer there's a reason why you're right dve he's been in the big moments and he's won the big games this guy delivers when the game is on the line out of the shotgun they go to the ground stop after a 5yd game well guys bowl season is here always fun to get these non-traditional matchups That You Don't See regularly what do you guys remember about playing in a bowl I think you remember all the moments throughout the season throughout your career and it's the last time that you ever get these group of individuals together you say goodbye to so many people and and it's kind of Bittersweet but always fun Jesse um to do to dance with your boys one last time but another thing too I love the Shag bags personally I love getting the gifts yeah I mean to me David really it was thinking about the tradition and history of these bowl games I think that's one of the best things about college football we're in an era today where bowl games don't matter as much as they did back when you and I played but it was special to take the field with your guys one more time but playing in games that had so much history they tried to get the defense going the wrong way with the counter but nothing doing aggressive defense attacking defense you want to hit them with those counters but it wasn't successful in this play defensive line linebackers everybody's doub in they see what's going on they diagnose it go downhill hit him right in the middle of the field well man there's some big hitting going on in the trenches right now this defense they take a lot of pride in stopping the Run let's keep our eye on them throughout the course of the game and see if they can contain this running attack gives it to the back on the draw still running up the 40 what what a Nifty run there to pick up the first down I think it's really important for this offense they get this guy going early in the game and they're doing a nice job of that right now remember he's the kind of running back who gets better as the game goes on that's a really good omen for this offense considering his success now early knocked down at the 35 after a pick up of three one thing I've noticed from talking to coaches about their approach to bowl games is how many of them use it as a springboard for next season they try to focus on developing some of the new guys maybe that have joined them for the Bowl practices I mean you get 15 plus extra practices you start to play and experience more as young guys the older guys get a little bit more rest but yeah you're building the future you're building the foundation you're working on your Technique and you know what you also get to have some fun I think that's important for team building is having fun at your location doing the different things together to start to build that Unity that will make a big difference in the future yeah there's a same in college football that your freshman year when you get to bowl season you're no longer a freshman a lot of players grow up get the extra practices mentally and from a confidence standpoint you turn the page I can remember back to my true freshman year we're getting ready to play Penn State we had a lot of NFL talent in my freshman class and everybody just seemed to grow a foot taller they were playing with a different intensity level that really paid off for us the next year got enough space touchdown hurricane he would not be denied how about that way to start a game they didn't even attempt to throw they just ran it meticulously down the field and that guy caps off a beautiful start to this game with a touchdown he did get that extra point through no problem with the frozen tundra beneath him he'll bring it out it's Meyer rolling the dice to bring it out of the end zone did not work out as he stopped at the 13 the midshipman offense makes its way onto the field for their first possession of the game as we take a look at our impact players for this one what are you looking for Jesse for a guy to make an impact well these are simply put the leaders of this football team and generally games go how these guys play if they make plays they've got a shot to win this one no doubt they got to show up these are the team leaders these guys have to play well if they're going to win the football you know good running backs are the ones that can make things happen in small spaces that running back there found his Lane found his crease and there was no hesitation he got North right away and was able to make a big time play it'll be a first and 10 from the 29 give to the fullback and I think they'll give him two on that one second and eight coming up David given the fact that you are a devoted helmet head I'm not sure that you're aware there are a lot of other festivities around the bowl game did you ever experience any of that of course I'm a helmet head get a spot on agree with that but here's the thing we did a meate eating contest at the Outback Bowl my senior year which Squad could eat more steak from Outback it was absolutely amazing so I experienced that in all of its group he'll bull it on the re nowhere to run on that when he loses four on the [Applause] on first down here comes this offense can't hang on and he'll tell you he really should have made that catch and he had an opportunity right in the middle it'll be second down yeah and you can tell he was trying to run with that football before he caught that slant route you stick your foot in the ground cut towards the QB those one of those plays where he puts it on the money and you just try to make yards after the catch but key word being and he breaks into the open and they finally get him down but not before he's got him set up for business at the 49 yd line how nice is it as a quarterback when you don't have to throw post routs to get great stats no I can just throw it quickly to one of the fastest players in the entire nation and let him burn this defense and not much doing there as that defense runs him out of bounds they'll go to work on second down after doing damage on the ground the aerial assault continues on t get to the left he works his way inside the 30 down to the 29 and picks up a first down Navy is clicking on all cylinders right now wide receiver coming across in motion touch pass on the Jet Sweep he's run out of bounds but not before turning in a big pick up and moving the sticks for a first down new center Downs right on the doorstep for this offense quick pass on the Fly motion this defensive front just ran free in the back field he'll lose three really good job by the defense seeing it and going and getting it nice job understanding the touch pass it could happen those guys go Motion man I got to understand safety's got to see that start flying down getting ready to play that nice job by the defense being ready for that and a good solid pick up for the defense Cuts him down and these little touch passes man they're just the easiest completions ever for quarterbacks Palmer I bet you would have loved being able to just Flip It Forward that counts as to your completion percentage which is good and then it's all run after the catch so easy for a QB you wouldn't have been the only allamerican in this booth game if I were allowed to put push passes when I was playing quarterback I'll tell you that it is so hard to defend it's so hard to seal that edge especially when this guy's Full Speed Ahead [Applause] final play of the quarter [Applause] coming they'll turn to Martinez a very short pick up there and that'll be the final play of the first quarter we've reached the end of the quarter and Miami is on top they want wanted to strike first and strike hard and they've been able to do that here in the first quarter as we take a look at the stats this could be a pivotal moment in this game as we open the second period and they try to find a way to answer will start the quarter offense about to snap it on second down they move the tight end all over they'll run the counter at the 40 there he goes that defense got gas but they finally get him to the turf at the 47 one of the things I love about these misdirection type plays is that you can pull offensive lineman and get extra bodies at the point of attack so you're setting yourself up with good angles if you execute it properly David you saw it like that and saying the word angles means a lot because it's a running toward the tape and chunk plays are the name of the game and they get one here before the defense finally makes the Stop and the kanes come to the line with a fresh set of downs they'll go to the ground knowses his way forward maybe gets one they'll mark it at the 18 and those physical runs take a toll it might not be a big game now but down the road third fourth quarter late in the ball games they tend to turn into bigger runs didn't get much on first down it's second and nine the give to the back headed to the end zone and he's loose and he'll take it to the house touchdown Kan another rushing touchdown that's now two on the game this offense thought they could come into this one running the ball being the more physical team and they look like it right now and the extra point was good as they finished the drive lining up to cover the kick after that touchdown drive on the run from inside his own five didn't find any crease in that kickoff coverage and he'll be stopped at the 17 and navy will go back on the attack this is hardly the start they dreamed of down 213 but get a touchdown here do you feel like you're back in it Jesse Yeah it's frustrating for this offense as well because they've got the hor they've got Playmakers to light this scoreboard up much more than the three points we're seeing here I think you just got to stay true to yourself do you David and know that the points are going to come well it's also frustrating when the defense has given up points almost every single possession so they they need to score here and take this down and have a good drive and then the defense needs to pull their weight a little bit too well that was just like trying to run through a traffic jam no place for the big fella to go yeah that's the whole key ree you can't let the big fella get some steam so you got to stop him in his tracks right away the only way you do that is with penetration quarterbacks love throwing the Slants to Big when you got big targets it's hard to miss them great job throwing to a guy that tall putting it near his body and he plugs it in for the catch and the offense will stay on the field do you think they're just going to try to make the defense jump trying to show their strength with the run on fourth down hey stop him [Applause] e hello and welcome to Boston Massachusetts home to the Freedom Trail the heart of the American Revolution and we are here to find out who will end their season on a high note as champions of the Fenway pole kickoff team on the field ready to start this postseason classic he'll Dar the return inside his spot I he's just enough space to cross the 25 let's mark it at the 27 yd line so the Miami Hurricane offense will take the field to get things started here he comes and obviously defense is always going to be aware of a quarterback but boy he finds a way to put defenses on their heels all the time David I mean what can't he do he's got the weapons he's got the confidence he's got the experience Jesse these kind of guys are so hard to defend you're right they better be able to find a way to get pressure on him cuz if they don't this is going to be a long day and a great job by the linebacker you can tell starting to crowd the line of scrimmage get up there in the line of scrimage see it diagnose it get in the back field get the running back on the ground ball is free now look what I found I'd say that's a stroke of Good Fortune the offense keeps it I don't know if it was luck or aggression or just a fortuitous balance but at least they've got the ball back one thing I do know ree this running back has got to do a better job with ball security you cannot turn the football over and expect to win this game they're very lucky they were able to jump on top of that 6yd pickup on first down leaves him with second and four sweet cut there and they finally haul him down but not before the good catch and run that RPO play was run to Perfection the Run fake forced and sucked the defense up and a nice job on the route by the receiver not telegraphing that he was breaking to the inside on the slant gets it out quickly top physical hard no running gets it to the 34 this offense has a second down [Applause] play from the gun leaves it on the inside with the back they wrestle him to the ground but he's got ready for a first down you got to be loving what you're seeing from your offense here on the opening drive of this game they're in a really nice Rhythm they've got real good balance going on right now and they've got the defense on their heels he's got it on the run and he mots into the end zone touchdown Miami you want to talk about a great way to start the game and set the tone early it's so nice to have a quarterback just get himself into the game get himself a established you make a couple e e your offense down the field you score right off the bat could not have been a better start for that QB fielded In The End Zone it's Meyers that is a decision he will likely regret he brings it out of the end zone and he's knocked down at the 10 so the Navy mid shipment offense comes out and they'll try to put together their first drive of the game as we take a look at our impact players for this game David what do you look for to make an impact from your leaders your leaders not only have to lead the football team but they got to step up and make plays on the field keep everybody calm these guys typically do a really good job yeah David and they also generally set the tone for their respective football teams regardless of which side of the ball they play on the teammates look towards them to step up in big games like this the give to the single back and the defense holds firm no pick up at all on that play I get it that the game is the primary thing about going to a bowl but there are so many festivities surrounding it Jesse what do you remember about something you experience there was a lot of pageantry when I think back to the bowl games I played in and you have functions you get to visit a brand new City generally in warm weather you get to meet the other team there's some friendly competition the biggest thing that stands out to me though was a street brawl against the Miami Hurricanes Bourbon Street getting ready for the Sugar Bowl about 120 deep hard to forget [Applause] that to the ground with the back into the pile Maybe got one he stopped at the 21 you know runs like this often times are like a boxer in a boxing match obviously it's not a knockout punch but these are body blows and as the game goes on these small gains are going to turn into longer runs that pass [Applause] line gets set first down the give to the fullback they bring him down and he's going to lose a yard on that one sometimes you try to fool the defense with the fullback not fool there you better block goodness gracious that's supposed to be a Qui hitter get me a few short yards and there was nowhere to hit it they guess got hit in the back field and brought the big fell down and I think that might be an example of the running back maybe trying to do a little bit too much everybody wants to try to bounce the ball outside and hit the home run but in college football at this level you just need to do a better job taking what the defense gives it they stop him after a short game probably just wanted to mitigate e e e e e e e e e e e e e
