TS/Hurricane Hone Smacks the Big Island

so tropical storm hone and hone in Hawaiian means sweet and soft and that's how we're hoping it hits us but I think it's going to hit us with a little more uh than sweet and soft here so I'll I'll pop back in here periodically and show you what it looks like over the next few hours but yeah just hunkered down all ready for it all stocked up um nowhere to go they're advising don't even get out on the roads and and I know that the lower roads from here are a mess already because the ground is saturated and I just took another Peak at the satellite shot and there's you know it's coming just hoping that the wind event isn't too too severe um it's not too bad right now those trees are flopping around a little bit and the rain bands kind of keep coming right now it's a little bit of a lull and then it comes in and just pounds but I'll keep an eye on it yeah when the ground gets this saturated sometimes if the wind gets too strong a lot of those trees uh won't be able to stay up and they'll come down we've seen that in years's past but right now so far the wind's not too [Music] bad so it's about an hour later and it's picking up a little bit and let's see what the solar systems look like under these these fairly dark conditions if I'm picking up anything so right here looking at my 48 volt system which has 700 watts of of solar tide into it 48 watts coming in right now off of that array hav't been getting good Sun yesterday or today of course and we're not going to catch much today but 77% and going down I'll be okay on this hopefully till the sun comes back out which it might be a couple of days but we'll we'll see but yeah 700 WS available 48 coming in and here on this 12vt system what are we at we're at 76% full and I've got 500 watts of solar tied into that and 500 WTS available only 35 Watts coming in but yeah so far pretty sweet and soft you know nothing to get alarmed about uh the water tanks are all overflowing of course and it's starting to blow a little bit more they're saying maybe 50 mph out here which that can knock down trees and there come a bunch of leaves coming down pretty good getting a pretty good blow now and then well a little less soft and sweet those trees were just about laid down just before I turn the camera on and starting to get a little Gusty out there sometimes that rain is coming in sideways and they're saying about an hour before it's just going to really let loose on us and here's a l a low spot out here I'm out in front of the shop right here and this is where I was saying I was going to put a pond and if I had a pond liner in there right now the pond would be in place cuz that's uh that's over 2 ft deep right there right now and it's got some room to go up another foot before it would start spilling lean off over in that direction so probably 3 ft deep in the center right there as you can see that's right in front of the bungala uh the bungala is going to stay high and dry it peels off away from the shop in all directions but right here is a gathering point which yeah shame I didn't get that pond liner in here so far so good uh yeah about 30 minutes away from I guess something serious but we'll we'll check back in it's picking up quite a bit now it's getting to be about 2:30 heading towards 3 I believe and they've changed the forecast a little bit and it's supposed to get uh much heavier tonight actually so from now and throughout the night when I won't be able to see but I'll certainly be able to hear it but uh yeah it's been uh sweet and soft so far for the most part but uh yeah it's going to ramp up a little bit tonight and it's kicking up a little bit more now that rain just kind of settled down again but it was pouring a minute ago so yeah it's probably going to be dark when it's happening so I might just have to wait till morning and see what it looks like yeah getting some pretty good squalls now uh a little after 3:00 and uh yeah it's perking up not as uh sweet and Sweet and soft right now those trees were leaning way way over a second ago and here comes another Squall probably coming down about 3 in an hour right now very heavy very heavy [Music] [Applause] yeah the lake is growing it's about to burst over the sides there in the back it's about all it's going to hold getting pretty deep all right it's the next morning that was kind of a long night uh it pounded us pretty good I have no idea how much rain we got I'm going to guess around 15 in I haven't seen any totals I saw one total fairly nearby that was over 10 in but I'm pretty sure we got more than that up here didn't get much sleep it was coming in sideways Fast and Furious and it has just now kind of stopped raining I don't think that it's over with the rain yet but uh get a little break I'm going to take a little walk around see if I got any damage out there yeah it looks pretty good out here little squishy but uh not too bad at all I'm pretty sure that my pond has grown up here by the shop oh yeah pretty good oh yeah hey I just need to get some fish in here now yeah yeah that's holding pretty good water that's 3 ft deep in the center for sure looks like the Shop's all in good shape let see yeah it's all wet of course but yeah I don't see any real problems everything's held up pretty good even that whole thing didn't take off there was some pretty good wind last night turned into a hurricane earlier this morning and it was it was pounding rain of course the shop looks high and dry don't see a single leak in here so that's good I did pick up a couple of leaks in my uh house couple small leaks coming in one right on top of the bed just a slow steady drip this morning woke up my bed was a little wet some of these bigger storms will expose things like that you know a screw pops off of the panels over the time and uh a powerful rain like that can show you where the leak is show you where you need to go do a little patching up there so when things dry up I'll do that and just a little standing water here on the driveway yet and that's not too bad that'll that'll drain off pretty quick now that it's stopped raining so yeah I don't see too much just hunkered down like we're supposed to yeah everything looks good just went up to my ankles and water there very happy no trees down haven't been out to the road yet probably wait a couple of days yeah everything looks pretty good all right hard to sleep with that rain the way it was pounding last night and the wind so that was tropical storm hone sweet and soft uh yeah that was the meaning but it wasn't always sweet and soft but in the end okay no real hard damage well we got a couple other systems out there in the Pacific um mosy in this way too so we'll see what that does I hope it dries up enough in between I can get up on the roof and do a little patching especially that drip that was right over the bed woke up thought I'd wet the bed anyway catch you guys on the next one just checking in uh was all prepared everything's in good shape and that's all you can do storm like that is just hunker down so that was tropical storm and then this morning turned into hurricane H and all good here Aloha trying to catch a nap today yeah I don't think we're going to get any sun but we're going to be needing some Sunshine here pretty quick 59% there 55% there yeah and the other one in the back is about the same so yep going to need a little sunshine here pretty quick
