NFL current news! (August 25) Daron Bland injury, Sean Taylor new statue, and QB controversy in Pitt

hey guys welcome back to rookie numbers uh dropping in with a kind of Surprise episode here just want to give you guys some updates of what's going on in the league um we're slowly wrapping up uh week three of the preseason and I just want to dive into with some big time injuries that are going on in the league right now so Cowboys all proo quarterback donon Bland he's headed to have surgery he's expected to miss about 6 to 8 weeks um sounds like he suffered a stress fracture in his foot Dallas announced this on Saturday um he was experienc in some discomfort practice on Wednesday and images revealed that he did indeed have a fracture so really big blow to the Cowboys defense there donon Bland really proved himself as a as a ball Hawk these last two seasons he snagged 14 interceptions uh from 22 to 23 uh including a league best nine interceptions last year he really stepped in to help fill that void after Travon dig suffered a uh season entering ACL tear last season and it was expected to have Diggs and Bland as their top two corners going into this year but unfortunately due to um really really unfortunate circumstances um donon Bland won't be available until later in the year if at all um moving on to another big time injury the Arizona Cardinals will likely have a prolonged wait for the regular season deut debut of one of their first round picks uh defensive lineman Darius Robinson uh suffered a Capal injury on Thursday's practice his recovery timeline is considered to be multiple weeks following the scans that they did um the number 27 overall pick could could possibly begin the season uh looking around that week time week five time frame which they would be um that that would be their match up against the San Francisco 49ers their first match up against them uh should he avoid injured reserve it would signal the Cardinals the Cardinals believe he could make his um debut a little bit earlier than that moving on from injuries uh we do have a little bit of an update about the quarterback controversy that's going on in Pittsburgh between Russell Wilson and Justin Fields Russell Wilson had a pretty good outing yesterday against Detroit um let LED them to a LED them on a touchdown Drive uh I think it was like five Play 60 yards down the field uh to open up the game including a a big time throw to George Pickins on a third and long uh had coach Mike hlin came out and said we've got three days of Steelers versus Steelers work and why not do it then in regards to making the decision for the starting quarterback it kind of minimizes the Steelers versus Steelers work when we start making decisions prior to the completion of that we've got ample time to prepare for Atlanta and make whatever decisions or announcements regarding divisional labor or pecking orders and so forth so it's clear that Mike Tom has not made a decision yet he doesn't know which quarterback really has the upper hand right now um I I believe it will likely be Russell Wilson he had a much better outing this game against Detroit yesterday than he did and that really frustrating outing against the bills so look for Russell Wilson to likely be the starter come week one in other news the Philadelphia Eagles announced on Saturday that they will officially induct lashan McCoy into the Eagles Hall of Fame he is the Philadelphia Eagles alltime leading rusher that this will take place week nine in a Sunday night game they will be taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars on November 3rd um in a statement from Jeffrey lury uh he said Lesean was an incredibly gifted player who always approached the game with great joy and enthusiasm um there was a lot of sour grap when lean first met or first left Philadelphia when Chip Kelly took over the team uh chip didn't necessarily think he fit into the offense Shady obviously grew up an Eagles fan he's from that area um so there was a lot of bitter feelings when he left so it's really cool to see him get to come back and be honored by the team after things really went South there so congratulations to lesan McCoy the last bit of news I have for you today it comes from the Washington commanders uh nearly 2 years after the team unveiled a wireframe memorial um that left a lot of fans disappointed and even a little bit outraged uh the C commanders did announce this weekend that they're going to bring in a new Memorial um they they've removed the the previous statue they're now working with sha Taylor's family uh most specifically his daughter um his daughter who was um I think only 18 months old at the time of the murder she will have a lot of input on what this new Statue will look like and we'll give a lot of a lot of ideas and uh creativity behind that Jackie Taylor um Jackie Taylor is sea Taylor's daughter's name she also plays volleyball at the University of North Carolina um in a quote from her she said I'm excited to announce along with the Washington commanders plans Tova stue to honor my father I'm thankful for Josh Harris and the Commander's family for their continued commitment to keep my dad's Legacy alive I look forward to sharing plans in the future and learning more about my dad through this process so for those of you who don't remember sha Taylor was an all pro safety back for um it would have been the Washington Redskins then back in 2007 where he was murdered in the middle of the Season by some home Intruders so uh when the initial statue was unveiled a couple years ago uh I don't know if you've seen pictures of it but it's it's a rather ugly statue so it it's cool that they're going to you know get another opportunity to make it right for the fans to give sha Taylor the the correct Memorial that he deserves so um other than that pretty pretty quiet pretty season weekend not a lot of starters played teams are really resting up and getting getting ready for the regular season we're only I think 10 days away from the Ravens and the Chiefs kicking
