under the lights this evening as we get you set for another edition of baseball on the show tonight an intriguing match-up between the san diego padres and the cincinnati reds into the box now bravic calera and we are set for baseball here this evening and he'll start the ending with a pitch that misses off the plate it's ball one and back to back pitches out of the zone to begin the evening it's 2-0 now temperature here at game time 61 degrees 3-0 now padres shortstop ahead with the three ball one strike count finally got one over nothing worse than starting the game with a four pitch walk fastball right back to the mound and he'll flip onto first to record the out next to the plate for the padres trent grisham and he's a guy looking to break out in a big way hasn't been getting the results he or his club have been hoping for fouled away so far on the year grisham is slugging a little under the 400 mark so the chances of his connecting with the ball right here aren't particularly good ball taken there two and one now fastball is looked at for strike two struck him out digging in tommy pham he has no prior history against this pitcher and a high strike to begin the at-bat it's ball two and you know what get this guy some credit up there because this had the look of being a very quick inning he's been able to stretch this at bat out a little bit and that's something that pitch hits ball one well if you love pitching in defense this has been a game for you are you happy with that dan i think this continues for a while matt both of these pitchers are throwing very well throwing strikes having good command of their off-speed pitches this is going to be one of those low scoring affairs the count now at two and two ah got him on the good slider there swung on and retired settling in now kyle farmer as we move past the halfway point in this one and begin the bottom of the fifth he'll start him here with a changeup but it's taken for bull one fastball just a bit low here he's behind 2-1-0 now 3-0 now if i'm in the box right now i'm coming unglued he is going to throw something over the heart of the plate that's on the outer edge three and one this one's down guessing there and it's a ball and a strike hey i can understand this batter's frustration right here he's trying to be aggressive and get something going for his team they are getting shut out in the fifth inning but that's exactly why they're getting shut out you need to keyhole and stay on the attack and make this pitcher come in the middle of the play three balls into strike to the shortstop of the reds hit in the air down the right field line in there a base hit and this will find the wall deep in the corner and he is in at second base with a one out double the picture and now sunny grain this they'll look at a changeup that drops below the knees for ball one he's over one after grounding out in his only trip to the plate so far and did he go around no he did not ball two now the two oh three 3-0 now it's amazing how guys can lose focus sometimes when the weaker hitters come up especially the pitchers you've got to stay on the attack and minimize pitches and get these guys out in a hurry at the plate nick senzel he was a ground out victim last time up he's ready here's the first offering didn't quite catch the zone there ball one and a change up here but that's taken low in the dirt for the ball got to find a way to execute either a good fastball down and away or flip something off speed for a strike you cannot miss over the harder plate in these situations the hitter is on high alert now the 3-0 offering line toward right center but this will not get out there deep enough as it's run down by the right fielder in the alley for the second out stepping into the box now fouled off oh for two from him so far in this one oh and one count and the pitch down and away ball one no offer on that one two balls in the strike and often becomes harder to hit the zone when the pressure starts to heat up no runs four hits no errors in the ball game for the padres and another foul ball [Applause] popped him up vato in foul ground he's got it and there are two down now so stepping in eric hosmer as he's got a chance to tie this ball game up with that equalizing run just 90 feet away at third yeah and this is the guy for me i i think this is the guy in the clubhouse that the guys truly gravitate towards the total package of eric hosmer's game is really special the pause and the o2 and he struck him out his seventh of the ball game and that ends the inning drew pomeranz is into the ball game now as he'll make his fifth appearance of the season here number 15. he's ready here's the first offering joey vado is in for the third time now as he takes a ball outside it's 1-0 a ball and a strike hey if he's going to get swings and misses that balls up and out of the zone he's going to continue to go there check swing no swing says the home plate umpire back end of this game only down by one all they need to do is get this lead off guy and they're an extra base hit away from tying this thing up first pitch of the inning is taken downstairs for a ball it's 1-0 in there one and one one ball this slider has been impressive all night long if he can continue spinning it like that he's going to be just fine two balls in the strike to count here's a big swing and a miss on the fastball two and two he hasn't thrown that pitch much all game i gotta believe as an offense you just gotta throw that pitch away and move on to the next one and he lays off ball four so now the potential time run here is aboard late in the game first pitch on its way pitch popped up and he'll indeed make the play in foul territory for the first out so a crucial moment
