New Kamala Ad SHREDS Trump! Brutal Quotes from his "Best People" | Bulwark Takes

hey everybody it's Timo with The Bard kamla Harris is out with a new ad this morning featuring all of the generals all the best people that Donald Trump had around him uh it's interesting it comes on the heels of the Liz and Dick Cheney joint endorsement of Harris but doesn't include either of them seems like maybe something that they had in the can and wanted to continue the momentum leading into the debate of high ranking Republicans uh defecting from Trump but in this case uh it's really focused on the people that were around him that knew him best and that could speak to his judgment and that's something that I think is much more powerful actually than even the endorsement of my man Darth Vader Dick Cheney so let's watch the ad and then I'll explain why on the other side in 2016 Donald Trump said he would choose only the best people to work in his white house now those people have a warning for America Trump is not fit to be president again here's his vice president Anyone who puts them over the Constitution should never be president of the United States it should come as no surprise that I will not be endorsing Donald Trump this year his defense secretary do you think Trump can be trusted with the nation's Secrets ever again no I mean it's just irresponsible action that places our service members at risk places our nation's security at risk his National Security adviser Donald Trump will cause a lot of damage the only thing he cares about is Donald Trump and the nation's highest ranking military officer we don't take an oath to a king or a queen or a tyrant or dictator and we don't take an oath to a wannabe dictator take it from the people who knew him best Donald Trump is a danger to our troops and our democracy we can't let him lead our country again I'm kamla Harris and I approve this message all right so there you go so who do we have in that ad there you got Mike Pence his vice president Mark esper his secretary of defense you got John Bolton who is National Security advisor and Mark Millie was chairman of the Joint Chiefs definitely Pence is recognizable to everybody that's easy ad right right uh anybody that kind of pays attention to politics Bolton and probably Millie Bolton the mustache you know you know that he's a high ranking Republican guy esper maybe might not be quite as familiar to people who are not hyper engaged in politics but you know you can see that these are high ranking officials it's not you know some random person in the Department of Defense it's not uh it's not a staffer it's not like a political staffer um you know per se particularly in the case of Millie and uh and esper you know these are not like iCal hacks right these are people that are military officials uh defense officials people that have expertise in National Security so I think that lends a lot of weight to it so I think there's one thing that this does really well and then there's one thing that I'd like to see a little bit more of as we move forward uh but what it does really well is just talk about the danger and the risk of trump and and listening to the people around him just a couple of the the phrases here you've got Pence saying Trump put himself over the Constitution you've got esper saying that he's not TR trusted with the nation's secrets that he places our security at risk you've got Bolton saying he'll cause a lot of damage you got Millie saying he's a wannabe dictator so um the Millie one a little bit less but all those other examples are specific things that like we cannot trust this person because he cares about himself because he cares about himself more than the law and the Constitution that speaks to all of you know my people the old school Republicans people may maybe had a pocket constitution in their suit jacket at Point um you know this is uh speaking directly to them that like you don't you don't really know what he's going to do in there he's a radic he's unwieldy um he and and speaking of people that are maybe less interested in you know kind of the high-minded you know uh constitutional republic stuff um there there's just a direct comment about how he's going to place our security at risk how he's going to cause a lot of damage I like this I think that like for whatever reason because we survived Trump the first time you know even though it ended with a Siege of the capital A lot of people you know who don't pay attention to the stuff that closely are like well you know it it went okay right and and so you need validators who are in the room to be able to say well actually we got kind of lucky that last time right like it was still bad but we got lucky and when you have somebody of his character somebody that cares only about himself somebody that doesn't care about the law you just you don't know what's going to happen next time like it is not worth the risk and and I think that takes us to um you know the thing that I I want to see a little bit more of which is making people rethink their presumptions about Trump and and and in this case I'm not even so much talking about the group that I really often focus on which is these kind of suburban college educated High income former Republican Mitt Romney voter types I'm talking about the less engaged voters right there there there's a group of Voters out there that Trump is is doing well with that don't engage with the news that much that you know just don't think about the stuff that deeply and that's not really even an insult of them like they have many of them have other things other concerns in their life you know have Financial concerns economic concerns family concerns health concerns right so they just they don't think about it that deeply and they don't they're not doing complicated risk calculations like what could happen with Trump and so while this ad I think is good it shows look even his own vice president even his own defense secretary even his own National Security adviser even the head of the Joint Chiefs like they all say we can't do it they all say it's too risky that's good but make people think about it even more like I like in in one way I kind of wish this ad would speak directly to people and say you know why do you feel more confident in Trump than his own vice president than his own Chief of Staff than his own Secretary of Defense like are there is there a way to make this ad feel less like a typical political ad and more like uh guys like let's just think let's be real like let's think about this for a second like let's take a minute right and say like are we really doing this are we really doing this and and I think that sometimes the political ad makers it ends up becoming White Noise a little bit right like the ad becomes a little bit of white noise it's like Trump bad KLA bad Trump good come good and so um well I think that the substance of this ad is good figuring out way to try to make people question their unquestioned presumptions about Trump is something that's important over the next 60 days um so I I think it's good I'm glad that she's out there on the defense we talked about this um today uh on the podcast with Bill Crystal it's going to be up here on this page uh but just in general with the ads right now you have this thing happening where Trump is running a lot of negative ads against kamla and kamla is running really POS positive ads about herself and her agenda and her ads are kind of soft um actually let's just play a couple seconds from one what does an opportunity economy look like tax cuts for Working Families billionaires and big corporations pay their fair share it increases stability and security gives people a true opportunity to get ahead all right so you see she's in a living room there it's it's a little more feminine than some of her other ads and um and she's talking about policies and kitchen table issues and I get I I know why they're doing this like they're seeing in the polls that there are still people that are unhappy with inflation and and this is kind of a way for K to be like no I see you I see this we're going to deal with this you know this is a priority um but like it creates this environment where like she has this very soft Gauzy ad out there and the ads that Trump are running are like oh K's gonna like migrants are going to kill you paris's liberal ideas get people killed and it it creates this sort of bit of an imbalance and so I like now getting this add into the mix too throwing some punches back think we can go even a little bit harder um but uh but the the validation is strong and and I think that I I God willing I hope that eventually with repetition you know that this sinks in with people like his own VP can't vote for him it's unprecedented it's unprecedented and the reason they can't do it is because of the danger and um and and you know I I hope that for the people in your life out there I think this is a good talking point also to take to barbecues it's like you know especially really conservative types they're like you don't if you can't get there for combo Mike Pence can't get there but like if Mike Pence can't vote for him if his own Secretary of Defense Mark esper thinks he's a danger like what are you seeing that they're not seeing you know and like they they sat there with them they know they're not being brainwashed by the fake news media like they all sat with him in the Oval Office they sat with him in the situation room they know what he's like they can't vote for them that's
