🔴LIVE NOW! Cincinnati Reds vs. New York Mets - Sep 7, 2024 MLB Full Game - MLB 24 EN VIVO

just about to get underway today's starting pitcher Tyler McGill well this guy's just been filthy out there on the mound hitters batting under 200 against him and they're just having a hard time squaring up anything doing any type of damage the only way he hurts himself is if he gives up the free passes and surrenders a rare home run but outside of that it's going to be a tough job for the opposing lineup today here's the third baseman Jonathan India trying to pick pick up his first knock in the big leagues and a swinging a Miss clearly was sitting on a fastball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider hey you can't fault him for his commitment now he's just going to have to battle with two strikes on the ground and it's through for a hit man aboard on the leadoff single Jonathan India with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget yet congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you work to get here Ellie De La Cruz Diggs in now [Applause] center field Vader should have it makes the catch and there's one gone that in thir the catcher here's the lineup for the Reds a really frustrating showing for them in their last game lots of traffic on the bases but they left a ton of Runners on base couldn't cash in their chances Chris they had plenty of chances there's nobody to blame it on but themselves offensively they just did a poor job converting in those situations you have to figure out what's your plan going to be maybe watch some tape from the last game make the adjustments so if you get those opportunities in this one you've got a much better chance of scoring some runs India the runner at first with one gone to the inning [Applause] runner on the goal swing in a Miss throw to second now usually when you see a team try to steal a base in the early Innings it tells you they want to be aggressive on offense try to force the defense to make plays and slow them down that's exactly what they did right there so we'll see if that caught stealing changes the offensive approach moving [Applause] forward two down nobody on stays [Applause] alive and the pitch and down on strikes and it's a three up three down inning no score as we head to the bottom of the first [Applause] back here at City Field and today's starter Jake junus I'm a report on him Chris well he's been a real quality starter for his CL and coming into this one what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggle batting below 200 on the year it seems that they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone so we'll see how right-handers do against him in this one Francisco Lindor comes up to the plate looking for his first big league hit right here kick sandal that one close rule the ball and that's ball two you got two balls one [Applause] strike swings through that two ball two strik and a pitch [Applause] out to short espol tosses across the first one gone bottom half of the first all right let's take a look at the lineup one guy leading the way offensively for this club right now Jeff mcneel and boo he leads the team in on base percentage and run scored I mean those two things are pretty much connected because obviously you can't score without getting on base this is a guy who really acts as a catalyst for this lineup here's Brandon nmo outside low and it's two and one two1 righty delivers ripped to short on to France and the home first moving along quickly today to gone her V and now it's Mark Vientos two outs Bas is empty next offering is [Applause] downstairs bounce to the right Rosario and the Mets go one two three nothing doing for the Mets scoreless after one back here in Queens and now the center fielder TJ fredel [Applause] that one the other way oh he gloves it clearly stole a base hit right there excellent job great athleticism by the short stop to make that leaping catch to bring it down it was a live Drive headed for the Outfield Spencer steer the next to HIIT for the Reds and here it comes bals it off still one and two kicks and fires slice to right Taylor tracks it down for the out that exist the first number two two out Bas is empty and here's the first baseman Ty France [Applause] and that's in dur one strike and strike two second inning here no score [Applause] two outs knocks that one away and we'll do it [Music] again and the pitch swings through it and that's a strike out nobody left for Cincinnati we'll go to the bottom of the second no score and we're back and now the first baseman Pete Alonzo the first since debuting in 2019 no player in the majors has hit more homers than pet Alonzo swing and a ball hit out towards left center field and that'll get down for a hit so will man up on base to start the inning Pete Alonzo with his first major league hit and this is the moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you worked to get here here's Jesse Winker and a pitch the other way there's one on to First double play as a former player watching 543 double plays brings back some adrenaline it's such an exciting play and it's always a great reminder of baseball being such a team sport Tyrone Taylor will hit next [Applause] that misses two and one [Applause] [Applause] [Music] hot shot to first base and he snags it to end the inning we'll move to the third with no [Applause] score and welcome back to the ballpark out of the third inning in now for the Reds Jake Frey [Applause] the pitch line to right and that'll be a base hit so a runner aboard to start the inning Jake Frey with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you work to get here here's the short stop at the play Santiago [Applause] espinol that misses the zone and that's ball three Frey gets his lead at first nobody [Applause] out next offering is fouled back and a 3-2 got him slingy couldn't catch up to the heater came inside with that two- strike fast ball nicely and just punched him up the inside part of the plate couldn't get around on it and catch it out front many times if you do it's a foul ball and you know a lot of pitchers they really don't like working inside with two strikes because they do not want to hit that batter and when they've got him up against the ropes got to figure out a way to put them away did a nice job right there Mill checks over to First and he's back top of the third no [Applause] score and now now it's ahed Rosario throw to Second save well he picked over once just before the pitch to check on him but that didn't seem to slow up his jump on the pitch at all I think that guy's been studying some video awesome job to be prepared got the timing down and he gets into scoring position [Applause] and the rander deals on the outside corner and the count is even two and [Applause] two man it's second and another ball payoff pitch and it's Ball Four he missed down low he's making things difficult for himself right now out there on the mound but you know his confidence should still be high enough to get out of this but he's going to have to buckle down right here Jonathan Indi at the pl the Reds looking to strike first we're here in the top half of inning number three swings through that one well all eyes on the double play ball in this spot no better way to get out of this inning two on one out swing in a m struck him out slider got him for strike three well that's always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count and as a pitcher it really allows you to start expanding The Zone hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide and what happens is because of the pressure you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before or you recognize what it is and that's what leads to the strikeout and here is Ellie De La Cruz that's off the mark and that's ball two tough spot right here couple Runners on two ball count you can't nibble but you have to execute and finish your pitch if you leave something out over the plate it's going to bring in some runs and a two- one on the way in the air right field pretty well struck Taylor ranging B didn't quite have enough so they strand a pair we head now to the home half of inning number three we're tied nothing [Applause] nothing set to the bottom of the third and stepping in for New York Jeff mcneel in the air left field Dela Cruz makes the catch for the out one down the so up next for New York Francisco [Music] Alvarez and another ball two balls one St [Applause] the wine in the pitch swing and a miss struck him out slider got him for strike three and that's the first strike out of his major league career and it could be the first of many if he meets the goals he set for himself and the expectations others have for him he doesn't want to just win games he wants to dominate at this level do you think Young pitchers could sometimes get too caught up in trying to rack up GS early in their career who I think they can it's kind of like a hitter that doesn't have power The Thrill is still hitting the ball over the fence and so for a guy even if he doesn't have power stuff or strikeout stuff a strike out is still something that makes him stick his chest out a little bit further there's a swing and a drive back there and it's gone his first Homer of the year and the Mets jump in front it's one nothing Bo his plan was to hit the ball hard and he was going to figure out the rest later you can't argue with those results [Applause] when you see a guy take a slider on the outside part of the plate and hit an opposite field home run fires you up because not only is he flexing the muscles to show the pop that kind of approach you'll hit for a high average as well back to the top of the lineup here's Francisco Lindor and the righty deals and a swing and a miss there one ball two stength two down nobody on and a swing and a miss and that's that one in the inning and it comes from a rather unlikely power source it's now one nothing you're dialed into the show back here at City Field John shamby with Chris Singleton and set to lead off off the fourth Tyler [Applause] Stevenson swing and a miss at the splitter and it's a strike out that's about as nasty of a splitter as you'll come across especially in terms of movement that thing tumbles out of his hand and just drops off the table at the last moment he keeps it down it's just so tough to put wood on TJ frel the next to HIIT for the Reds here's a one one and a swinging to miss pitching well but not throwing a ton of first pitch strikes usually doesn't work out for success but he can never predict baseball and that skips [Applause] into Bas is empty one away top half of inning number four you can see he was trying to stay back long enough to handle the off speed pitch but just a little Tardy on the fast ball and that's the strike out looking called strike three and a fast ball up in the zone and next is the designated hitter Spencer steerer steer on the corner for a strike [Applause] fights that one away still one and two two outs worm burner into the outfield for a knock Spencer steer with his first maor League hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming D you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you work to get here two outs runner at first Ty France the next to hit Migel picks over oh he [Applause] safe and he deals this one chopped on the ground but foul steer off of first with two [Applause] away fly ball down the line this has got a chance and it is foul OU the pitch and another [Applause] [Music] [Applause] ball here's a highfly ball out to Center Bader sizing it up makes the grab and that's the inning so one left for Cincinnati they still Trail one nothing back here in Queens now the number two hitter Brandon nmo leftand hitter weits and that one fouled off the w L of the pitch BS it back with two [Applause] strikes righty to the plate wouldn't chase that time that one missed he should get a pretty good pitch to hit here with three hole hitter up if he's [Applause] walked hard on the ground to First the flip to the pitcher covering and one gone in the fourth as they get the lead off man and next for the Mets Mark ventos right in kick steals one ball one out base is empty hard hit right side and he handles it himself for the out now the firsto two outs Bas is empty and now it's the polar bear pet Alonzo the wi to the pitch so a foul ball makes it one and two the pitch good job to fight that one off two down nobody on we're here in the bottom of the fourth [Applause] swing and a miss struck him out and good work there as he gets a one two three Mets go down quickly but they're on top one nothing and we're back and now the right fielder Jake brayy ball to strike the pitch outside that's B movement in the bullpen Shawn manah the veteran Southpaw is getting ready to come on if needed Garrett a hard throwing rander up as well left hand batter Waits swing in a Miss as he was late that time man that's just just a nasty splitter bottom falls out of it you don't see a lot of guys throw that these days but I tell you what he's got a good one Fly ball to right and there's one down maybe caught that one off the end just a little bit couldn't quite Barrel it up enough to really drive it Santiago espol the next to hit for the Reds here comes a pitch foul ball [Music] there one down base is empty swings and misses on the fast ball up in the zone for the strike out thought it was a pretty good pitch top of the strike zone we're seeing more fast balls in that location hitters especially with two strikes have to be ready to pull the trigger Ahmed Rosario now at the [Applause] [Music] plate looking sharp just to strike away from five shutout [Applause] innings in the air right side brings it in for the third [Applause] out and welcome back to the ballpark bottom of the inning and stepping in for New York Jesse Winker [Applause] and he walked him his ability to draw walks has been something that's been part of his career since day one so digging in Tyrone Taylor [Music] [Music] the one one sang in a Miss as he was out front that time swings through that one it's a strike out well that's the money maker right there two strikes slider down and away from a same side thrower as the hitter I mean that's just tough you're looking to protect with two strikes and very very difficult to lay off Jeff mcneel stands [Applause] in Winker leads off first with one [Applause] away and a foul ball he stays alive [Applause] the next pitch misses and it's to a two the Cincinnati Bullpen has some movement Buck farmer getting ready to go mole getting loose as well the pitch that's inside and the counts full man it first one away payoff pitch on the ground out to short and that one finds its way through they fired in quickly so it's first and second with only one away Jeff mcneel with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does it kind of be overwhelming dude you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you can take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you work to get here so first and second with one man gone Francisco Alvarez digs in now two on one out and the count one and two the last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground but I wouldn't expect many pitches up in the zone they'll be pitching for a double play in this spot and another ball way to lay off that pitch down swing and a miss struck him out and now two gone he's really good hitting the baseball the other way so credit the pitcher for having him out in front of that pitch clearly he had him fo so first and second with two outs and now Bader up to the plate kicks andal swing and a miss and that strike two St foul ball left side he'll see another line drive and that's just foul two on two outs and there's a ball spoils that one and it remains two and two good battle here about to be the eighth pitch of the atat caught him looking for the k two left for the Mets but they hold a one- nothing lead top of the sixth inning now here's the Red's lead off man Jonathan India Jan India right delivers in the air left field down the line makes it a nice grab at a full Sprint and there's one down good pitch he just kind of had him out in front on that pitch away and wasn't able to stay closed deuz so up next Ellie De La Cruz we talk about guys with good speed and definitely he has it but pushing the offense aside for just a second Chris it's the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most swing and blasts one down the line it's gone of its fair but it hooks foul one down base is empty fouled off again and it remains three and two well he gets the balls that get by most people at that position just really impressive because there are certain times the ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit thinks that they've got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away Ellie De La Cruz with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does he kind of be overwhelming dude you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you can take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you worked to get here and here comes the Mets manager to the mound pitching change coming Tyler McGill departs we'll be back in a minute with a new arm on the mound Shawn manah gets the call from the pen on for his major League debut and a moment he will never forget better believe that it's always so special the first time you get into a big league ball game I did it as a position player but for him as a pitcher I'm sure there's some nerves there probably don't want to squeeze the baseball too tight just relax and do what you're capable of doing run around at first with one gone next for Cincinnati Tyler Stevenson this one in the air right field no trouble here puts it away for the out and there's two away well such a confidence boost for a relever to come into the ball game and get the first hitter he faces just makes everything slow down a little bit and then from there can really settle in TJ frle the next to hit for the Reds Runner around the move in for a strike and that's a stolen base not even close two outs is a great time to try to steal second especially when you have a guy with some Wheels On First Defense probably knew it was coming but figured we better focus on trying to get this hitter out the one two and that's outside [Applause] ground ball left side and it goes just foul as a pitcher you know the runner on second is ready to push things with his speed a base hit is probably going to be a big run so you really have to execute on the [Applause] M two outs McNeil throws to First in time and that is that clean work out of the Mets Bullpen there top of the order due up in the home half of the six it's the Mets one and the Red's nothing back now for the bottom of the sixth and there's a new pitcher on the mound Buck Farmer on for his major league debut so we'll see if he's ready for the big stage he just has to remember this is the same game that he's played all the way through the minor league Lees to this point the only difference there just more people in the stands and it's a bigger Stadium but the game itself is still the same look at the catcher whatever fingers he puts down that's what you throw and just let him Lead You In This one and the pitch B two meanwhile activity in the bullpen Emilio Pagan loosening up for Manager David Bell and here it comes hard hit left side India over to First end time and that's one out as they get the lead off hitter in the six Brandon Nimo next is the designated hitter Brandon nmo bounce to the left side and foul ball still two and two after the foul ball kicks and fires BS that off to the left and will do it again and another ball still just the second batter of the inning and on the mount he's already thrown 1 pitches they got him working hard out [Applause] there swing and a miss struck him out man it's so difficult as a hitter to get on plane with that pitch it's breaking down and in and You' got to find a way to match the plane and if it's nasty like that one bite at the end most times you're swinging over the top and walking back to the Dugout two down over on that's outside that one drifts [Applause] inside two down nobody on here in the bottom of the six popped up to the left into foul ground drops into the glove and that ends the inning down in order go to Mets but they still lead it one nothing back here in Queens New inning getting started and now Spencer steer looking to get the tying run on base and fouled off and now the Lefty grab ball up the middle fires to first on the run on target he got him nice play good Sinker low on his own right there and produced exactly what he was looking for ball on the ground nice ground out and here's the first baseman Ty France [Applause] and a pitch to third ventos fires over to First and two away to start the seven Jake Frey will hit next holding on to a one-run lead here in the top half of inning number seven and now two and one [Applause] [Applause] the Lefty fires on the ground to the left toss to Alonzo and the Reds go one two three Reds go down quietly and it remains one nothing Emilio Pagan into the game and this is the best way to make your major league debut no one on base yeah you're already going to be a little nervous out there so I think it's a nice job by the skipper to get him in here without any added pressure with traffic on the bases here's Pete Alonzo the [Applause] first ball to stri swung on belted that one carrying and that ball is out of here that was blasted to the moon and they add to their lead it's two nothing [Applause] [Applause] there was a cutter away kind of works like a slider you got to stay on it let it TR a little bit and then get your arms extended really good piece of hitting right there [Applause] Jesse Winker up now for the Mets right-handed reliever and that's downstairs and outside always exciting to see a late off home run in an inning kind of gets the offense fired up and you start to expect a big inning nobody on nobody out with a run in here the bottom of the seven this one smoked on its way out of here he muscles that one out the opposite way his first Homer of the year it's three nothing that's their third home run of the game they're having a lot of fun at the plate in this one they've got the long ball working for them on [Applause] autopilot backto back Jack and this club is fired up right now boo I mean this is the kind of thing where you really start to notice hitters in a lineup feeding off each other and the collective confidence just continues to [Applause] [Music] grow so digging in Tyrone Taylor and a pitch light drive and it stays Fair Tyrone Taylor with his first major league hit and this is a moment I'm sure he'll never forget congrats yeah great moment for him and his family a guy works so hard and has to wait so long for this to happen and when it does can kind of be overwhelming boo you still have to stay locked in on the game but it's great when you could take a minute to just appreciate what you've done and how hard you work to get here Tony Santia takes over on the mound just trying to keep this one close here and this is where a bullpen can give their players a chance to fight back into the game so man aboard here's the second baseman Jeff [Applause] mcneel here's a 1-1 b stop center field throw back in quickly first and second now with nobody out now P catcher so up next for New York Francisco Alvarez [Applause] and the rander deals Runners on the Move Frey makes the play and there's one down not the easiest thing when you're talking about a guy that's you know perhaps was going to be in the rotation or maybe a long relief guy to not start an inning to come into an inning with pressure on it and and try to get yourself comfortable and next for the Mets Harrison Bader he blasted one out earlier in the third just a solo home run but an important swing of the bat in this game we've already seen him do it once can he do it again Runners at first and second with one [Applause] gone next pitch is outside and it's two and one [Applause] and he deals turned on but that's foul down the third [Applause] Baseline some heat there at 98 milph well he just had no answer for that hard inside fastball right there just blew it by him and not every pitcher likes working inside especially with two strikes they don't want to hit a batter and waste an opportunity to put them away but if you can locate that fast just like he did most hitters aren't looking for it and it becomes very difficult to get a pie off two on two outs on the ground right side he handles it himself they limit the damage here but two rounde Trippers in this inning the long ball was working it's now 3 nothing you're watching Major League Baseball on the show welcome back in a new arm of the mound to start the eth hcar brazoban this is his first appearance of the [Applause] season and ready to hit now for Cincinnati Santiago espinol the Reds in Striking Distance but have some work to do boo it starts with the leadoff man need a good and bad out of him right here [Applause] inside corner that's a stri and the count one and two well it's critical right here that they bear down and turn in some quality bats try to chip away at that lead because if it gets to the ninth that closer is coming [Applause] in swing and a miss and he is down on strikes for the third straight at B oh I think he was waiting on the change up right there and he got it it just drifted too far in on him I think that pitch is just a little more out over the plate probably squares it up but instead he's going to have to go take a seat Ahmed rasario the next to hit for the Reds at the belt and fires and there's a foul ball and the righty deals wouldn't chase that time the Mets leading by three and we're in the top of the eighth foul ball another two- two [Applause] upcoming swing in a Miss struck him out and there's two away chance to strike out the side now you talk about the benefits the advantages of relievers who can come in and get the swing and Miss whether it's inherited runners or maybe a little Jam that they get into themselves knowing that they can miss the bat tell you what that's huge and can change the ball [Applause] game ouch that one drilled him safe at first and now we'll check on the right-hander hope he's all right that comebacker got him down low and you can really see him favor in the leg that's his plant leg which might be a concern Chris yeah you hope he's got some feeling in that leg so he can land on it like you said but from the way he's acting out there I think it looks like he's going to be okay and try to continue boo man it first in now for the Reds Ellie De La Cruz two outs and a foul ball here's a runs scoring opportunity you definitely got to push something across because it's not going to get any easier you get to the ninth got a lock down closer ready to cut in India leads off first with two down to the Inning on the ground to third they get the force that ends the frame Reds leave one they Trail it here three nothing back here at City Field out to the bottom of the eighth and now here is Brandon nmo [Applause] Nimo that one way outside now two balls in a strike well these Mets simply put are producing a lot of quality swings they've been lining the ball all over the ballpark and unfortunately sometimes it's right into a glove but still they've hit nine line drives so far and that's something they should feel very good about calls it in for the out one up one down speaking of those line drives you can't get too discouraged when they don't drop in for you it's important to remember that you pretty much did everything right and that's just baseball sometimes Mark ventos getting ready to [Applause] hit base is empty one away here the bottom half of the eighth inning got him swinging oh that slider was way out of the zone and for me it just comes down to not seeing the pitch out of the hand not tracking it into the zone and then also being a little bit anxious not confident in your two- strike approach and so when a guy's in that position you get him to commit early and a lot of times you get the swing and Miss as you did right there two down nobody on so now one and two throwing the ball well and they need this score this inning in relief right here been doing a good job keeping them in Striking [Applause] Distance that one not close two balls two [Applause] strikes and a popup on the left side of the infield catcher t crosses the mask settles under it makes the play and it's out number three nothing doing for the Mets but they lead it 3 nothing now9 all set for the start of the inning here's the Reds catcher Tyler [Applause] Stevenson the pitch and another ball next one misses ball three first pitch strike from the pitcher but then no Panic at all by The Hitter very patient showing good discipline now he's in the driver's seat with the 3-1 count and that's Ball Four pretty easy walk right there last pitch wasn't even much to think about TJ Fredo the next to him for the the Reds nobody out runner at first on the ground two ball over to mcneel how about that double play well that's a huge ball in play to get the double play defensively just one more guy to get this save for the closer [Applause] so they're down to their final out Spencer steer the next to hit for the Reds right-hander kicks deals swing and a miss as he chases that one darting out of the [Applause] Zone Diaz is just one strike away Alonso steps on the bag himself ball game Miguel with his first major league win yeah nicely done I'm sure he'll feel very good about that and get the ball first his trophy case as he should a start he won't ever forget a shut out in this one three nothing our final score for Chris Singleton and our entire outstanding crew here at MLB the Show I'm John shami thanks for joining us [Applause] that's
