Tornado Warning: Hurricane Francine #2

from the Hammond radar and yes the tornado near Waveland and the Shoreline Park is where this is indicated at the moment so if you are in that area please take cover right now this is a serious threat this is a real tornado warning so if you are in that southern Hancock County please seek shelter stay away from Windows and please please please stay up to date with us here with wxxv yes Sam and this is the particular danger of of not just the chance of seeing uh thunderstorms in terms of those that could produce tornadic development on the tropical side when these systems make landfall but the reason they're so dangerous folks is because they happen so quickly and that's what we're seeing here you can see this box on both screens this is how close it is to the coast and this particular box as Sam mentioned that's your storm relative winds and it's not necessarily overly aggressive but it's definitely aggressive enough to where you popped it up and I looked at you you looked at me and said let's go you got go but as we move through the rest of this evening course since this is a tornado warning there is a decent threat in that area to life and or property but the good news is this most likely won't be affecting you there in Hancock County for much longer because this particular cell is moving towards the outer coastal areas which means it'll go right over the water and we hear at wxxv news25 also have the uh privilege of being right in tune with the National Weather Service they just actually continued that tornado warning for Hancock County we're going to actually show you what's going on over there in just a moment as we take a look at this weather Wall here Sam and there's a good reason that we come on the air when we do have the threat to life and property in terms of a tornado warning this particular system is within a tropical landfalling system which normally don't show too much in terms of that rotation on the upper levels of the atmosphere and in your midlevel scans which means we're seeing a decent amount here and if we didn't I promise you we'd send you right back to programming but this tornado warning it wouldn't surprise me Sam to see this move offshore and then once it moves offshore they're going to most likely quickly transition this to a water spout designated warning meaning it will uh State clearly that this is now offshore it doesn't affect you on land but if you live in this particular area it's very near Bay St Louis just towards the west of Bay St Louis as our news director Rick Boone came into the moments ago and let Sam and I know we do have a reporter in that area Marco Marco is actually taking shelter so regardless of what comes out right now in terms of possibility of maybe some small debris in the area or whatever is going on there that prompted the concern for the warning Sam aside from the radar products Marco has a front row seat to that and he is actually in this polygon and remember whenever there's a tornado warning on the Mississippi GF Coast we do cut into programming because it has been that way since the beginning of television stations and and because we have the option ability and Trust to broadcast weather one of the uh trust and agreements is that we will come on when there's a tornado warning even if it's not overly aggressive overly concerning it is our responsibility and our duty to be here on air and that's what we're showing you right now so as we mentioned Sam feel free to stop me and throw in any other products you find over there and he's uh digging deep in the computer I know he's got something of not he'll as I mentioned we will be here with you until this tornado warning expires because it is in the southern six counties of Mississippi specifically Hancock County we do have our analysis tools here and let's go ahead and break down some products for you and as you add in the wind products here this is what you're looking at in terms of changes to the area and the forecast this is the site out of uh sidel as well and the Slidel site now in Hammond you pull up that velocity more specifically uh it's not overly aggressive there but I'd say this is probably what they're looking at yeah I know that's the thing I'm definitely seeing that rotation that you there have on your screen yeah um that's definitely it yeah and the reason that Sam can see it so clearly without even taking a deeper level look he was looking at the keyboard looking at the other computer looking for some information took a quick glance up and said yep I see it and to the naked eye it doesn't look as I would say aggressive as some of the Wind wind reports do these storms but notice a darker shade here lighter shade here that means you do have winds going too winds going away from the radar and then look a little bit further towards the east here and you can just make out some splotchy Reds and greens mixed in there brighter colors that indicates some faster winds in the atmosphere there but of course the main concern is this spot right here and as we mentioned it's in Hancock County as well it's moving pretty quickly Sam and it's actually moved further past the original polygon and they trimmed it a little bit yeah definitely looking to cross Highway 90 right there uh still continuing to move through the area that Northwest Direction definitely if you are still in that area seek shelter if if you're driving on Highway 90 please stop plea don't don't travel anymore to the West um and plus we do not know if this system is on the ground we just know that there is some embedded rotation in this thunderstorm and as we continue to track this here on all of our radar systems yeah Sam and this is not a storm sometimes when we're here on the air like I mentioned it is our it is our duty and our responsibility to be on air with you when there is a tornado warning in place for our viewing area sometimes we do have to kind of stretch for some warnings until they know it because we know they're going to expire and we don't see much there and we'll tell you that but we'll stay on air until they expire Sam this not really the case we don't really have to kind of stretch if you will for for Content just to stay on air for this warning we actually see a little bit of developing a rotation there and I don't know about you Sam that does look like it's a little bit more distinguished between the lighter colors and the darker colors go ahead and give them a brief synopsis of what those colors normally indicate between the differing colors say we had a red and a green and they were going opposite directions yeah whenever we would usually have a darker red and then the brighter green together the red is rotating away from the radar but then the green is rotating the a is moving towards the radar so that's how we can Define that area of rotation in that embedded storm but definitely still if you are in that area we just want to make sure you do seek shelter now you know move to a basement the or the interior of the room lowest level possible and cuz this is still very serious and away from Windows this is as strong I mean even if this rotating cell is boy there there you go wow yeah yeah yeah what I just pulled up there you can hear the reaction that's a natural reaction we had seen this product yet that is the rotation detector is what we call it it is a Shear marker this Shear marker here really intense for this particular system and that Shear right there on the screen it shows that rotation that rotation may have been embedded in the storm but as Sam and I took a couple different looks at it from different products thankfully that's why we added in this Barren weather system here at wxxv news25 because we have those different tools this tool uncovered what we suspected and yes there is the hidden rotation within the storm not so much hidden Sam when you add something like that into the forecast here but this tornado warning now I know why they're keeping it in place because she if I saw this Shear by itself I'd probably keep that storm in place as we move that warning out of the way here you hear the beeping in the background it's continuing to um Advance Sam and go ahead and tell us what you're seeing yeah definitely I mean what what Trey is showing there with our rotation detector is definitely some good embedded rotation into that Storm still moving in the Northwest direction oh they just shrunk it now it's more defined of where that area of rotation is uh moving to the Northwest getting across that portion of Highway 90 I guess there's that fork in the road between Highway 90 going a little South uh Southwest and then just mainly moving uh to the west but still that storm is moving to that Northwest Direction if you are in that area and even if ahead of that area towards um uh what you had up there but yeah Highway 90 right there and is still continuing to move across that other portion of Highway 90 if you knowbody if you know anybody in that area please tell them to seek shelter especially in this uh time right now with this rotated supercell or with this rotated cell yes Sam and it's important to note that with uh tornadoes in general a lot of times more times and not these definitely in comparison to what we've been talking about for the past week the tropical systems these definitely come a lot quicker and with a lot less warning and that's even more so in a tropical system because they spin up so fast and a lot of times they spin up and spin out and they're not usually this defined in the sheer markers and rotation detector and I can see you over there digging for uh information there and and I want to see that just as much as you do but we're going to dive into the uh baren products we see here because we've already seen that one of these products we don't normally pop up unless we're certain we need to it actually showed that we are warranted in what we're looking for here so Sam I tell you what I'm going to do I'm going to pop up the radar here and we're going to take another look at a few different products and really see if this is Advanced a little bit further over the past few minutes because this cell here if you go back to the slide l site of course now in Hammond that's here nor there we've got a tornado warning for this particular area Hancock County here and luckily we had this street level mapping we can tell you exactly where concern is now because we don't know where the center of circulation is we can just tell you that this entire area certainly has rotation the weather service has pinpointed one of those and for that reason this is in place but if you see a street here that you recognize you're going to want to do a few things you want to go safe place interior portion of your home away from Windows and Doors put as many walls between you and the outside is possible this is a tornado warning and it's been issued for good reason and with the Clos proximity to the Weather Service office they also have different products uh as you get closer to their office that they can pull from and really kind of give them that so-called so to speak home field advantage when it comes to seeing what's going on in the storm now Sam I tell you what you give me your meteorological expertise when I put this in motion right here we're going to pull up the shear marker or let's go with the velocity we'll go with initially the storm relative velocity here and we're going to zoom out just a little bit more and put this in motion you may be even able to see that at home but watch the screen and tell me if you notice this rotation here on at least on the uh sheer markers and the rotation in terms of the wind start to develop so we'll go and I'll put it in motion say for the past 15 minutes here and you can see it moving right here across Hancock County yeah and that zoom out zoom out a bit give him a better angle wow there you go yeah and I'd say I see it you see it and I mean hey you could show them the good news that I see here is if you put on uh the correlation coefficient or the debris uh no sign of any sort of debris in this system that I'm seeing so far which is the good news yeah and Sam as you mentioned the correlation coefficient that is what we call in simple weather terms we call that the debris tracker and if you did have any debris in the atmosphere that's where you would find it and the reason Sam's saying that is because this is not overly a aggressive rotation and it takes a decent bit of rotation to really start indicating okay let's pull up the correlation coefficient let's take a look at debris potential but as Sam mentioned that that's a silver lining you can see in your forecast so if you're uh concerned here and it's putting some fear in you because we've already dealt with the tropical system arriving in Louisiana and providing us impacts we'll still feel through the evening the good news is Sam touched on something we do not see any debris being lofted yet but we do have to tell you Sam I'm sure you would agree that the uh rotation is certainly embedded in the atmosphere to some degree and with these tropical systems what you need for uh tornado deform on a normal basis you need that mesocyclone to be turned up and Into the Storm these tropical systems pack that uh turn in the atmosphere in themselves and what they're built like so all that will help to spin things up quickly and that's why these tropical systems are worn so quickly sometimes as well as Sam mentioned not seeing much on the debris any word from the weather service Sam on yeah that's what I'm looking for right now uh so far no more word on if there's going to be an extension to this tornado warning it does expire here in the next two minutes which is also another good thing but uh no word of any sort of extension yeah so uh as Sam mentioned um that the original warning set to expire in about 2 minutes and if it is expired we're not going to keep you on the air for no reason we'll certainly continue to watch this storm over in the weather center now as we mentioned moment ago as well this storm system most likely will develop some sort of coastal variant to it in Sam the motion of the storm is it moving more so towards the water and if it is is that going to transition this to a water spout uh no no this is not moving towards the water it's moving Inland I mean it's going towards I mean you could see lck town and um that tornado warning I'll switch the product for you put it back on reflectivity I mean that storm is just heading towards that direction in that Northwest Direction I mean you it's already gone on Shore it's already past Waveland it's already past Bay St Louis and it's headed towards yeah the Mississippi Louisiana border in that Northwest Direction I believe it's moving at a a speed of 40 m hour is what they're saying and continues to move in that Northwest Direction and this uh tornado warning should start to expire at any second down so yeah and it goes to show Sam that these things as we mentioned can come and go so fast The Weather Service offices have those meteorologists that are trained licky split it's like that if something pops up these products on your screen now even we see some products from the Weather Service where we say whoo like that's a little you know complex and how how do they see that and process it so quickly and the products behind us are actually pretty simplified they simplify the products not only for us meteorologists at the TV and broadcast level but also for the people at homes you could quickly glance at that say hey there's a tornado warning here's why I need to go take shelter immediately but as say Sam mentioned now under 2 minutes until the original warning is set to expire and if it does you're going to see it disappear from your screen and then we're going to tell you that we'll send you back but not quite yet Sam and if you had to make your meteorological hypothesis estimate then again we haven't gotten much information out of that area specifically we don't know if there's anything seen from ground truth which spotters on the ground or folks in the area would would show us and send us and we also don't know what the atmosphere is doing in terms of the parameters because they are actually I it looks like Sam I'll go over to the kios with Sam and if this is what I think it is it's going to be good news for you here's what we're looking at so far and Sam go ahead and go ahead and tell them what you just signaled to me over there yeah the tornado warning has been uh expired so we can now set you back to your regular schedule of programming we will cut in if any more sort of these tornado warnings do pop up as me Ryan and Trey have been forecasting all day today with hurricane Francine and we want just want to thank you and appreciate it
