This week we have a Michigan football game, 'Sign Stealer,' and NCAA ridiculousness

the season is almost here the Netflix documentary sign stealer is almost here we are going to get into the nitty-gritty of at least some of it can't talk about sign stealer until tomorrow but what we can do is get into what Chiron Moore said at his press conference there were a couple really interesting nuggets coming out of that as well as give you somewhat of a preview of SE stealer we're going through USA Today sports Media Group I always forget how busy the opening week Monday is uh thus we have a 3 p.m. show the intent of the season is to have it earlier nonetheless let's get right into it uh Chiron Moore was asked about several position groups today and I think that that's where the interesting stuff comes in obviously the headliner is the quarterback battle I did not name a starter I thought that he might have said like yeah we're going to play both or something like that was talking to Clayton safy about that earlier uh and he didn't do that he said no it's still that's still ongoing and between him and some of the players Giovanni alhatti or even the defensive players you know what's it like going up against these guys uh Davis Warren and Alex orgy of course being the two uh they all kind of said oh they're both good they're both the same all that kind of stuff so I we didn't really get any answers and not that I expected him to name a starter but uh I do think it is interesting that we are going into this but I didn't even write anything about this because it's just kind of like yeah we'll find out when we find out it's not like as the same as can JJ this former five star can he beat out Kade Mamer a former fourstar no we're not talking about uh guys that are highly anticipated but certainly uh you're talking about uh a lot of different things that can affect the outcome of the Season uh one of the things that Shon Moore made sure to mention was like yeah Alex orgy can run but don't think that Davis Warren can't as well talked about his ability as a Fighter fighting through leukemia to get to this spot um so I I do still think it will end up being Alex orgy when it's all said and done I just think that he as long as he is consistent as long as he takes care of the football I think that he provides an element at the quarterback position that unfortunately Davis Warren just cannot that said if they do end up choosing Davis Warren it's probably because he's more consistent and really that's all you need it's like we've talked about what what is Michigan won with especially before JJ but even with JJ strong offensive line strong Run game strong defensive line strong defense in general and an elite tight end it's that that's Georgia's blueprint Georgia with ston Bennett at least in his first year as the starter no one was sitting there being like man the ston Bennett kid is really lifting them to new heights he certainly did in his final year in college football but it wasn't he was just kind of a game manager no one was afraid of STS and Bennett going into the college football playoff game and then he made some plays that you're like oh okay wow which kind of should go to show you because he wasn't a highly rated guy that players can develop and that leads to my next Point Tron Moore is not that worried about the lack of returning production for Michigan because he's like we we are great at developing guys we've got guys that do have experience now if you remember before the incoming trans that came aboard uh in the summer Michigan was ranked 128th out of 134 teams according to ESPN that said we've long mentioned and it hasn't just been me it's been Jake but on this show it's been I believe shron might have even said this at Big 10 media days like those four starting linemen this year were the four that were out there H in the final play in the Rose bow only one was a starter last year and that was Mason Graham Kenneth Grant absolutely can be as good maybe even better than Mason Graham he's got a lot that's working for him so uh with that in mind I mean it's it's they've got guys that they have developed that goes across the board just because we don't know guys' names doesn't mean that it can't work out now is it a little bit more uneasy yes absolutely but with that uh shrom Mor basically said he didn't say hey he is our starter but basically said like the guy that would probably be the starter is at cornerback opposite will Johnson is Jer Hill we've kind of Ed this for the last couple of weeks but now we've kind of gotten name put to it so it will be interesting uh to see how a guy who's only played 58 snaps how he looks but there are position battles ongoing at Center and you would expect the names to be Greg krippin and uh Raheem Anderson but he said Greg krippin and Dom judice there's still a battle ongoing at right tackle you would expect him to say Andrew Gentry and Jeff Percy instead you hear him say and Andrew Gentry and Evan link so couple unknowns there now one thing that did get mentioned I kind of put two and two together but I asked giovan elhadi today I said you know who's who are those guys that are backing you guys up at the guard positions and uh one of the names he mentioned was Raheem Anderson so it sounds like that Raheem maybe out of the center competition but in contention uh to get on the field as a guard so uh not surprising I think that's kind of where he started when he came and then he moved to Center he moved back to guard move back to Center but one of the things that Chiron talked about was the fact that they cross Trin all of these guys and that that pays dividends for where they're going I know there I got the comment about having to constantly move my boom arm for those who watch I know it's frustrating to me too it's really just about having it in the right position um then not knocking it like I just did um anyway so there is still some uncertainty at least in terms of what we know and that doesn't mean it's what they know but at the same time you want to see it in games and one of the things that Chiron says he likes about this team is that they're mature and you can catch that from talking to players you know they I almost scoff when like younger reporters ask like the same types of questions that we already know we're going to get the answer to but at the same time it's like okay the mentality is the same so it's like why am I scoffing you get this uh you know are you worried about the team looking ahead and the response is always the same no we take things Day by Day game by game we aren't looking ahead to Texas we are looking at Fresno State we don't want to be Florida State so I think that that is a really good place to be and it's a good mindset to have but uh it does sound like they've kind of gotten everything at least figured out whittel down to that okay they've got to make some decisions by week's end if they haven't made them already maybe Fresno State is the first to learn about these things but man it was good to see some football I didn't think I was ready for football season now I'm I'm raring to go I mean I still want summer to last can't we have both you know Tony Stark why not have both you know like that's that's what I want warm weather leaves on trees just as importantly and football but it was exciting to get to be able to sit down and watch uh a couple football games on Saturday and I'm just ready to start seeing the teams that we care about seeing Michigan take the field seeing all of these other big schools I cannot wait to watch Clemson and Georgia duke it out like that that's a heck of a week one game and then you you get the the big game in week two so you just hope that Michigan gets everything figured out to be ready for that but you know the players they're focused on Fresno State that's exactly how you want it to be all right I saw SE stealer as a matter of fact I've seen it four times now as me saying this will there be a felt like it was a bit of an Endeavor but I finally got to get my sneak peek at sign stealer The Untold in the untold Series in the Netflix documentary so like I said I can't tell you exactly what but I mean you've got to wait what you've got 12 hours and it comes out so uh no it's not worth burning my non-disclosure agreement but I do want to get you primed for this a little bit and then we'll have a show that will probably and hopefully drop early in the morning if everything goes to plan uh we'll uh discuss the things in it uh we we'll figure that out if everything goes to plan for me today I'm going to the Michigan alumni uh um Club grader Detroit kickoff dinner here in a couple hours so uh if uh if I can get home at a reasonable hour and I don't have any distractions we'll hopefully pre-record that and it will be ready for you on your uh your morning drive tomorrow although with heavy spoiler of course so that'll be up to you if you want those spoilers or not uh but uh What uh what was my ultimate takeaway in like the generalist sense of it all is that I think it will certainly embolden Michigan fans I don't know that it's going to change the hearts and minds of Rivals and uh General football fans I'm curious to see kind of what their reaction is right like you're not going to back Buckeye scoop off of their uh you know their Charlie day in front of the the corkboard moments right you know Matt Weiss colluded with the FBI to you like all this stuff FBI is investigating Matt Weiss for kidnapping Ry Ryan day's dog and blah blah blah no that's I I I know what the his uh his rumors are and none of them are founded or true H or whatever uh certainly they're not going to get that type of any gratification that things are going to be really bad uh for for Michigan coming out of this and but note the timing of this again right because Netflix is they announce like oh we're we're dropping uh a Conor stallions documentary and then boom draft of the notice of allegations comes out usually it can take months for the uh actual notice of allegations to be delivered at that point cuz there's a deliberation process that happens uh internally and externally with the NCAA uh only for this to only take 3 weeks 3 weeks to the day Michigan has delivered the NOA and yet it that just gives uh them a 24-hour news window before the documentary drops interesting that but I do think Michigan fans will like it uh I mean if you have Connor stallion's fatigue then you know yeah maybe there will be a little bit some moments where it's like okay whatever the story whatever I don't know uh but I can tell you that I I mean I I liked it enough to watch it twice in the first evening that I was able to see it on Friday uh I watched it again in in preparation for writing uh story that'll that should everything uh being cleared should drop on uh right as the documentary drops at 3:00 a.m. if everything we're going to knock on wood for that I just I hope that that is uh able to to come out uh with some inside information on my end and um yeah I think it's a very worthwhile Pursuit and I will be honest I did not think it was at the time because it felt way too early to me so uh the timing of it again I recorded my interview in April I met the director in dece well no January I met the director in January the night before the national championship game and I thought it was like when when I met him I was like okay well you know maybe I'll see you again in a few years and turns out it was like oh a couple months later here I am sitting in front of a camera um I I I didn't think it was a worthwhile Pursuit then uh I think that ultimately this timing actually does work out really well if you are looking for something that's just going to be like the biggest bombshell in the world you're not going to get that but there's certainly some things uh that are uh very worthwhile in this documentary that's the best thing that I can say so um I'm looking forward to everybody getting to see it I didn't say the moon isn't real in it so uh I don't know how much scorn I'm G to get um but I look forward to being able to kind of expound on that in the next episode so the the plan for the next episode since uh Connor will not unfortunately be joining us he wants to he sends his best he'll join us at the earliest possible moment that he can um but what we will do is we will uh we I will tell you the story of kind of how this connection came to be all of this is with his Blessing for all of you who are out there for whatever reason getting mad at things uh tomorrow we'll we'll get into how that connection came to be and then we'll go right into the documentary and I'll expound upon some of the themes that are in it and uh give you some inside info uh from there maybe it's not new information but if you hearken back to a lot of what we were talking about in October and November last year uh In This Moment especially as you're watching the documentary you'll be able to be like Oh okay that's what you was saying and why he couldn't say anything in that moment that should be a big light bulb moment for a lot of you who have followed along throughout this entire Journey so uh I look forward to getting into that weirdly segment three we're going to get into the away because it it doesn't deserve our uh our first or second segment consideration I'm relegating it to segment three because you know what the NCAA is going to NCAA it is what it is we've already discussed a lot of these things there's certainly some fever hours before uh before the documentary comes out NCAA clearly isn't I I don't know I'm I'm not going to finish that that thought the NCAA obviously trying to control the narrative still this is the pettiest uh thing I've seen this governing body do and they've done a lot of petty ridiculous things to other teams but like they and even to Michigan with the whole Burger gate of it all lots of petty lots of just you know animus all of that kind of stuff uh but I think it's uh I I think it's funny the timing like this this clear like we need to get out of the documentary especially given that you know they they know that they they themselves are going to be on camera so I I'm curious to to hear if they say anything in the aftermath about all this but anyway there was uh there's a lot of rumors out there coming from The Usual Suspects uh there on social media the ones with the big reaches that love to just spout nonsense you know who I'm talking about multiple uh different fan bases out there that actually the reason why there wasn't a leak this time is because the information in there is so much worse than the draft that's not how it works the draft is here is what we have the actual NOA is we we going to we're going to whittle some of this down it's not now just 3 weeks later we found some explosive new details that we were able to prove uh-uh sorry that's just not how it works love your Zeal very cool it's very wrong but it's very cool um so uh nothing new there's a you know some say that there's still a lot of the same stuff if not pretty much all of the same stuff it doesn't sound like there's any additions I think uh when it comes to the Chiron Moore and the text I think that's the silliest thing because they're not charging Chiron Moore for conspiring with Connor to engage in this elaborate scheme and vast Network and all of this stuff no they're not doing that what they're doing there is like you deleted your texts he gave them to to us and we couldn't find anything it but the fact that you deleted them like how backwards is that like okay like he learns that there's an investigation going on through the media reacts uh harshly spontaneously to delete his text messages which I've been assured have nothing in them otherwise you would know if they did because it would be like he deleted some text inhibiting the investigation because there was actually crucial information within the said text messages that would be like that would be a level one number one number two it would just be it it would be the headline of the story no instead it's he deleted the text and then he gave it to him and it it's it's just absolutely absurd on its face uh so uh I I think one of the fun parts that came out of this though was uh Conor Stalin's lawyers uh Brad beckworth and Nathan Hall with the statement provided to the athletic this investigation has been a Witch Hunt from day one intended to smch Michigan and Coach Jim Harbaugh Connor is a scapegoat in the ncaa's ongoing quest to show that it has purpose in today's Sports World the NOA says Connor's friends and family sent him film from the games that they uh sorry looking at text messages m message there games they attended with tickets Conor purchased but there is no rule against that the lawyers went on to say that only scouting that took place in this case happened on Michigan's campus from behind Connor's computer so here here's where we get with all of this the NCAA bylaw 1161 it prohibits in-person scouting uh stallion's lawyers are uh they're contending that there was no in-person scouting by the staff members that hey there there was video taken maybe maybe not uh and if that was the case like it got sent to Connor and like he scouted that way that therefore he was not in person and so to me that's a very letter of the law argument the problem as I've said before is that the NCAA is judged jury and executioner so they can do whatever they want with their own bylaws and interpret that however they want I don't know if it ended up going to a federal court now many of you have asked me in the aftermath of this being released yesterday would Connor stallions fight this it is my belief that yes 100% he's going to they they would not just let the NCAA like you know no more college football ever no more college football for five years and him be like oh all right well I guess I'll go use something else no I don't think that they're just going to let that let that go um and it would be interesting to see how the uh the legal system would interpret these things so um I just think it's really ridiculous timing it's uh to be expected given what the NCAA has done it just shows you the pettiness of them cuz in in like we didn't see the NOA from uh from Burger gate I don't believe until like let's let let me look this up I want to I want to make sure I'm not speaking out of both sides here so the NOA for Burger gate I mean I guess it did still come pretty fast because we're talking uh we're talking back at uh the turn of the month into August and that was that all took place mostly like investigating back in like 2020 and all of this and um and they uh we find out at the beginning of the 2022 season 2023 2023 yes that they were investigating this so we're talking in January was when it was when we learned this right after the college football playoff and uh we get in NOA a year and a half later and then they start investigating this whole Conor stallions of it all in the fall of last year and somehow this is a a much more complex situation and yet this investigation TimeWise has been significantly truncated I think that's very interesting especially considering another side is going to be spoken about now that is the thing that I think that I want you to be aware of in this documentary now I do find it to be very balanced in its storytelling but we had only really heard one side of the story except R shows like this except for on sites like the Wolverine or Ma and blue review on Rich Eisen show it wasn't major national media Outlets that were pushing back on this Michigan wasn't pushing back on this The ncaa's Narrative has been able to go mostly unchecked up until this point save for partisan hacks like myself so uh I think that it's uh interesting the timing because I think without this documentary we're maybe getting this a little bit further down the pike than we actually are but anyway uh I hope you all wake up at 3:00 a.m. or stay up till 3:00 a.m. you can be like me and try to go to bed around 3:00 a.m. yesterday only to get woken up by a dog that wanted to go outside and play for some reason at 5:30 in the morning yes that's me complaining at the end need some 5 Hour
