that is the main reason that he's so on board with this I mean the money is nice but Trump is a notoriously vain person and all these pictures where he looks like someone 20 years younger and actually in decent shape it's got to be like catnip for him because well that is how he sees himself and it's also notable how heavily he's leaning into the crypto angle compared to previously m m i mean this yeah my unfortunate I'm married to Trump yeah but in some pretty ironic timing the nft marketplace as a whole is SEC vs OpenSea of course still nowhere near where it was four years ago in terms of demand and enthusiasm and now just one day after Trump's latest nft drop the world's biggest nft Marketplace looks to be in potentially serious trouble here's CNBC crypto Marketplace openc has been added to the sec's list of targets as the regulator extends its Crackdown on the sector the company's CEO said in a post on X on Wednesday that the US Securities and Exchange Commission issued a Wells notice against openc a Wells notice is typically one of the final steps before the SEC issues formal charges It generally lays out the framework of the regulatory argument and offers the potentially accused an opportunity to rebut the sec's claims the letter according to the openc chief alleges that the non-fungible tokens or nfts sold on its platform are securities openc is a popular platform that allows users to create sell and buy nfts so this is basically the same debate that has gone on for several years now about whether cryptocurrency should be regulated the same way stocks bonds and other Investments are and the SEC has been going after pretty much every big crypto Marketplace lately yeah even Robin Hood uh nfts would appear to be a bit more difficult to label as Securities given the whole non-fungible element of it but sites like openc don't really do anything to hide the fact that nfts are less about collecting and more about flipping them for profit but anyways uh we don't particularly care now that this garbage isn't being marketed to normies as a get-rich quick scheme the way it was a few years back but news like this is exactly the kind of thing Trump vaguely claims that was like one of the biggest defenses of it is like it's impossible to get money into Gaza and the West Bank um without using cryptocurrency I've watched videos of like people in Gaza and they're like yeah it's all through crypto like we go down to the bank the bank [ __ ] just bends us over with fees so like if you send $200 in crypto to Gaza they get like $100 in the end but um it's pretty much the only way any money is getting in or out there at a time when um they really need it so um yeah that that is interesting that binance would just be like oh okay sure no problem well anyways in one more bit of trump Debate mic muting debate news that's pretty amusing there's another presidential debate coming up in less than two weeks oh boy and it'll be the only debate between Donald Trump and kamla Harris before the election there was of course already a presidential debate back in June but as you're already aware a lot has changed since then directly because of how that debate went for both of the participants for one of the participants in particular oh yeah yeah yeah well this next debate seemed for a while like it probably wouldn't even happen but now that it's on there's still apparently some disagreements between the two campaigns about how it'll all go down here's Politico who first broke the story the holdup whether or not the candidates microphones will be muted when it isn't their turn to speak back when President Joe Biden was still running for re-election his campaign came to an agreement with trumps there would be two debates CNN's on June 27th and ABC's on September 10th conducted by mutually negotiated rules one of Biden world's red lines which the Trump team agreed to was that microphones would be muted throughout the debate except for the candidate whose turn it is to speak as CNN announced on June 15th now the sides have flipped Harris's campaign wants the mics to be hot at all times during the ABC debate as has historically been the case at presidential debates we have told ABC and other networks seeking to host a possible October debate that we believe both candidates mics should be live throughout the full broadcast Brian Fallon the Harris campaign senior advisor for communications told playbook in a text message last night confirming our reporting our understanding is that Trump's handlers prefer the muted microphone because they don't think their candidate can act presidential for 90 minutes on his own we suspect Trump's team has not even told their boss about the dispute because it would be too embarrassing to admit they don't think he can handle himself against vice president Harris without the benefit of a mute button it's clear the veps team is hoping to get Trump to lose his cool on Mike and it is funny he he was he commented on this he was and it was basically I think they knew he was going to want whatever the opposite they wanted and he's I don't know I thought the the muted mics worked out pretty well but I guess uh cuz before he absolutely did not want that yeah no he was uh it made him very upset even the notion that mikees would be muted which Biden really pushed for yeah um but yeah so yeah response Trump's campaign is really pushing back hard on this proposal saying the rules have already been agreed to even though they haven't the rules for CNN debate were agreed to the rules for ABC I think are still up for debate also you were that was a different campaign you were negotiating with anyway this is despite previously in 2020 the Trump campaign saying that any mic muting in that Year's Trump Biden debates would be a total deal breaker no no no the mics stay on that's why I think the Harris team put did this publicly because they knew he would just do the like want the opposite but they had already agreed for muted mics and Harris is like you know what actually unmute him wait wait wait no we agreed to mute yeah they really want Trump to be muted anytime that he tries to talk over KL Harris while he's answering a question and uh I think what the Harris campaign is saying makes sense he was playing on easy mode against Joe Biden didn't really lose his cool in that debate in June but debating against a younger more popular and more articulate opponent is much more likely to Rattle him and get him to say some weird possibly offensive [ __ ] that won't win him any new fans he's going to talk about her race he's got a lot of I mean so Trump like off the cuff the craziest moment was probably that uh National Association of black journalists event which um I'm sure people on his campaign were just like [ __ ] that was not good even though they did try to spin it as yeah he told the media to their face how much he hates them but um yeah that was that was Trump unfiltered and I think they're like you know maybe filters are good we'll see maybe if he's just answering questions and not uh just interjecting with every thought that pops into his head maybe Telegram CEO arrested and over the weekend the CEO of telegram was arrested in France which had a lot of people asking questions like what is telegram it's when you uh call up your local uh service and they get on the and they get on the wire and they they they start tapping away they send a message across the sea and then a guy on a vesa delivers it a guy on a vesa delivers it and the recipient opens the door and you start singing cuz it's a singing telegram uh oh no that's not what it is it's a it's a social media site that a lot of people were convinced was just an end to-end encrypted messaging service for some reason I wonder why they thought that uh but yeah it's it's not as well known as Facebook Instagram Tik Tok or we chat or I think it's a lot more similar to like Discord it's a bunch of chat community there's no like audio component yeah kind of what it is it's got elements of like Discord or Reddit kind of but like more private yeah it's group chats that you can also direct message on and yeah that's that's pretty much it but telegram actually has a lot more active users than Snapchat and even Twitter it was originally more of a direct messaging Focus platform but has gradually become more of a social network and its Founders previously created the Russian social network VK basically Russia's Facebook before leaving to start over once the Russian government basically took over and really the only thing you need to know about telegram is that in comparison to other social networks it's pretty much anything goes which is there's there's good and bad yeah it is great for stuff like organizing protests in places with repressive governments but it also means it hosts a lot of illegal activity and welcomes hate groups and terrorists and what I do want to point out one of the good things that has been uh that telegram's helped with is because it's it is anything goes this was pointed out in 404 media this is where a lot of the actual on the ground footage from Palestine is coming from yeah it's also where a lot of Israelis hang out and uh say even more reprehensible things than they say on Twitter which if you can believe it I don't know if you I don't know if you ever clicked translate from Hebrew on just any random post on there but it is um always shocking like wow okay I'm sure they have a community where can all share those very strange pictures where they dress up in their victim's uh lingerie yeah it's a Hebrew tradition go around to put on your victim's naughty bits yeah but as far as the bad stuff like uh historically historically like this is where attacks are planned uh an obscene any Mount is obscene but chat rooms dedicated to C Sam stuff yeah like notoriously this is like the one it's like the one platform that like Isis literally Isis was uh using this is the platform where January 6 was planned yeah one of several yeah when it was reported that telegram CEO pav durov was arrested in France over the weekend without publication of what he was accused of which I guess in the French justice system I don't get it but I guess they can arrest you and they don't have to say why for like at least a couple days but uh it was assumed by most that yeah it probably had something do with all that illegal activity and hate speech if we had to guess as 404 media explains we at 404 media have seen and reported on much of the illegal activity on telegram with our own eyes telegram is widely and blatantly used in the open by drug dealers who advertise their products on Facebook and Instagram hackers who sell credit cards in public groups hacking Crews that have begun to commit physical violence against each other widespread fraud rings and people who make and sell non-consensual AI generated sexual content of celebrities Ordinary People and miners crucially much of this content is not encrypted because group Chats on telegram are not encrypted and because encryption is not enabled by default it would be more accurate to call telegram a messaging app on which a version of encryption can be enabled for certain chats if you want it is not really an encrypted messaging app many of these devices and groups are advertised in the open and many of these groups have thousands of users in our experience telegram does very little to remove this sort of activity and in many years of reporting on them we can think of only one instance in which telegram actually banned a group we sent to them uh that group that they sent to them they they explained this further on their podcast that group that they sent was a group that you could pay crypto to and then send photos of just average people in your life ex-girlfriends or family members or people enemies and they would create realistic AI pornography of them uh and that was I guess the one that was wrote back and acted in some way to to censor it or something wow okay but the article then goes on to explain why the news of durov's arrest seems to have particularly enraged the American right-wing with figures like Elon Musk Tucker Carlson and Ian mil Chong framing the arrest as a Witch Hunt and an attack on Free Speech basically signal a platform that's pretty similar to telegram but actually much more secure and is pretty much just an actual encrypted messaging app pissed off conservatives when they decided mostly out of thin air that a member of its board of directors was an extreme leftist sleeper agent and therefore the entire platform was compromised so ironic that they all of this actually moved a gigantic base from a real encryption secure app to a place where is what ended up being a Honeypot for a lot of seem that yeah yeah so this resulted in telegram getting boosted as the real encrypted messaging app despite again not actually being as encrypted as signal and so when the CEO of telegram got arrested well that must be part of some leftist plot and I do want to out that like the the tricking saying that oh we should go use telegram now because I think it was someone that was on the board of NPR if I'm remember yeah it was like during what you know your annual uh NPR is woke uh controversy you have one every year but uh it was like one of the people higher up at NPR happens to be you know on the board of directors of signal and um as we all know board members individual board members uh have just huge levels of influence over day-to-day op so clearly this person and they're like look at this she doesn't hate trans people she she thinks George Floyd yeah so that's almost the exact same thing that happened between the uh the phones that were supposed to be encrypted for criminals to use oh yeah there was uh they got one got busted that was actually legitimate and they're like oh we should go use this other one this an all these other phones keep getting busted by the FBI but this anom they're not busting anyone and it was just the FBI the entire time yeah anyways no it is not an anti-conservative plot unless you think cracking down on cess Sam uh is anti-conservative which well anyways here's the wall here's the Wall Street Journal French judicial authorities brought preliminary charges against telegram founder pavl durov for a host of crimes including complicity in distributing child pornography illegal drugs and hacking software on the messaging app a stunning blow for an entrepreneur who became a hero for internet Libertarians over the past decade the authorities also charged durav with refusing to cooperate with investigations into illegal activity on telegram Paris prosecutor Laura BAU cited an almost complete absence of response from telegram to judicial demands BAU said telegram had popped up repeatedly in investigations into child pornography drug trafficking and inciting racial hatred online since the apps launch in 2013 other prosecutors around France and in other European countries noted the same Trend when the Paris prosecutor consulted them she said that prompted French investigators to examine whether telegram Executives were criminally liable for the illegal activity taking place on the platform yeah okay I I mean it doesn't seem like it should be controversial that a platform enabling those types of crimes and doing nothing to stop it should face legal scrutiny for it when a government tells you there's [ __ ] like that happening on your platform it's pretty dumb to not only repeatedly ignore them but then show up in their jurisdiction expecting them to just not do anything about yeah the French government keeps sending me strongly worded letters about the crimes happening on my platform but uh let's go to France let's get on the Jet and go over to France yeah um again I I really think like there's the most recent 404 podcast is a very good Deep dive into this because they've been reporting on it for a very long time and focused solely on it so they they have much more information than a lot of other outlets but they they go into like the fact that Mo almost all other social media platforms Facebook even uh X sorry everyone out there that thinks it's an ultimate Free Speech platform but all of them have some sort of uh emergency contact police police connection where if anything goes wrong or there's there's an email address or a phone number yeah does not have that they have like their their headquarters is in like Dubai but it's just like an empty office so like no one even knows like who works there or how to get a hold of them yeah so I mean maybe they just didn't check the mailbox for 11 years they also go into a part about how apparently they're more responsive in certain countries because of the laws in those countries and how severe they handle it so they will get apparently email back if someone from South America says something about copyright again that it's very fascinating listen but at the time at the same time uh there are legitimate uses for this platform especially for users who live in countries where free speech is heavily repressed so there are reasons to see this as a bad thing but there's also many many reasons to see this as literal serious crimes being prosecuted the way serious crimes should be doing crimes on the internet doesn't make them any less criminal and while most people would agree that Free Speech shouldn't be a crime most people would also agree that drug trafficking and child pornography are definitely crimes yeah it's I mean one of the one of many episodes of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia that like really hit a particular issue on the head was the episode where they decide that Patty's Pub is going to have no rules and at first it's like yeah like uh it's like hell yeah you should be able to do that and then it gets like okay that guy's peeing in the corner like all right well I don't like it but you know that's the cost of freedom and then by the end it's just it is a straight up like drug and criminal den and people are playing Russian roulette in the basement and it's like no normal person wants to be there yeah and uh yeah that is that is how this [ __ ] often goes or it's also the the classic anecdote about uh you let one Nazi into your bar and even you're Nazi bar well yeah he's a nice guy he's not causing any trouble but then he brings friends and they bring friends and before you know it you're a Nazi bar no I would say that letting one Nazi into the bar would make me assume that that bar is a Nazi bar yeah so that's my stance on it but Bank CEO crypto scam uh speaking of crimes we've seen numerous examples in recent years of people falling for what seem to be pretty obvious scams and a recurring element to a lot of scams is the scammers insisting that the victim not tell the bank why they're suddenly withdrawing large amounts of money and that's because Bankers are trained to recognize common scams and try and stop the victim from losing all their money so it's pretty wild that in this next story The the victim of a get-rich quick scam involving sending large amounts of money to a random person in exchange for huge crypto gains was actually the CEO of a bank or a CEO who blew 47 million dollars of his own bank's money on the scam resulting in the bank collapsing a ton of people losing their money and the bank CEO getting sentenced to more than 24 years in prison it's a wild story here's ARS Technica Shan Haynes was first targeted by scammers in late 2022 apparently when he got a message from an unidentified co-conspirator on WhatsApp prosecutors said after blowing through his own funds seeking promised profits Hayes stole tens of thousands from a local church then a local investor club and finally his daughter's college fund NBC News reported then when all those Wells dried up he started stealing Bank funds all in the false hopes that sending more and more money to the scammers would somehow unlock the supposed Returns on his crypto investments in total Haynes made 11 wire transfers using Bank funds between May 2023 and July 2023 but instead of getting rich quick Haynes never realized any profits at all the US attorney's office said he pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement by a bank officer after he single-handedly caused the collapse of Hartland Tri-State Bank htsb in Elkart Kansas the press release said literally the meme of the guy chipping away and he almost hits the diamonds and he turns around right before man in this case the law caught up to him he's like they're dragging him away and he's like no the diamonds they're right there they're right there please but like I love it's just like some random person messages you on WhatsApp yeah it's like hey if you send me send me one Bitcoin I'll get you two Bitcoins in return like well I mean obviously I'm the CEO of a bank so no no scammer would try to get one past me this one must be legit yeah let's do it all right here's your Bitcoin where's the Bitcoin at oh oh they need more well okay he's a little bit more in his head he's like H I may be stressed now but when I single-handedly save this bank make it the wealthiest Bank in Kansas and send my daughter then you know everyone's going to be they're going to have parades for me for being so Savvy but that article continues according to NBC News hes missed at least one opportunity to realize that he was being scammed after he asked for a $12 million loan from a neighbor Brian Mitchell his neighbor detected the scam and refused to lend the money I said you're in a scam walk away Mitchell told NBC news but Haynes didn't walk away going the other direction he directed Bank employees to wire Millions more to scammers after he got the warning from Mitchell it wasn't until Mitchell heard from a bank employee that hannes had wired money out of the bank that Mitchell insisted on speaking to the bank's board Days Later Haynes was fired NBC News reported but even then Haynes never believed he was being scammed reportedly telling Mitchell that he was still scheming to find a way to recover his make-believe profits right up to the moment he was arrested he said if I just had another two months I could get the money back Mitchell told NBC news that is some that is some Gambler [ __ ] and uh yeah yeah this is the most extreme example of someone being pot committed on a obviously losing bet that I think we've ever seen yeah uh based on NBC's reporting it sounds like the whole debacle started with sending like tens of thousands of dollars of his own money to the scammers which yeah it would suck to lose that much of your own money but uh instead of being like Oh well I gave all this money to these scammers these sorry these investors and they didn't get me back uh he just went ahead and used his prestige in the community and in the banking world to Rob his own business and pretty much everyone around him including his own daughter thinking that if he handed over just a little bit more money well then they're going to pay him out on his investment and he'd not only be super rich he'd be able to pay everyone else back with interest they're not going to be mad when I tell them what what I did so yeah I mean it really goes to show that the only difference between a dumb guy and a dumb guy with access to a shitload of money is how much a scammer can get out of him it's just it's a another great example of being po committed also a great example of just unchecked greed this guy has had a good SS like he had a pretty good life good enough life to have tens of thousands of dollars in the bank and have a college fund for his daughter and be the president of a local bank and he that wasn't enough yeah he had to be so far beyond that yeah I know that's it's it's pure greed he was doing American Greed um that will probably be an episode of American Greed actually I hope so cuz yeah this story like the NBC news article definitely goes into into more detail than the Arts technical one that we quoted from but there's still like just so many questions I have like about just the step-by-step process of how this all went down is Absolut uh absolutely a mental deficiency I guess you would say once you start losing that much money yeah that you something switches you are not you are a desperate desperate person who will believe anything to fix the problem that they have created in their life yeah yeah like desperate people do really desperate [ __ ] I'm gonna get that money back and he was like maybe four inches away from the diamonds he was chipping away with that pickaxe if I stop now all of my gains yeah so but it's just like how do you get I've sent them $47 million but uh still don't have access to my winnings so maybe a couple million more it was just three million more and I would have gotten the Platinum package I would have gotten a piece of Donald Trump suit would have gotten seven free nfts and a really cool pair of gold sneakers they should have sent him an NFC this is actually worth $50 million so hold on to that buddy put that in the bank vault anyway yeah I hope to see more about this story because that is that is fascinating and uh yeah I guess yeah no one no one is immune from this kind of greed it feel just terrible for everyone else I mean obviously the towns folk I'm sure that the people I'm sure the people that had their money in the bank will be covered by like FDIC Insurance not as like when FDIC comes in they don't just immediately reimburse everyone it takes a long time and a lot of these people are like that's their retirement money so they don't have all the time in the world yeah um but yes also just yeah sucks for the whole town especially the daughter yeah woof yeah that's a hell of a story when you're at Community College next year hey nothing wrong with Community College folks absolutely you should go if nothing else you should do your first two years there and then use that and stay inate makes way more sense to Upstream yourself to a university I've lose so much [ __ ] money on College don't don't be me don't be like him be like me go to
