hey you guys I think Chicago Bears GM Ryan PS he just did it again and just some nice work he just keeps adding to this roster he refuses to just take from the scrap Heap it's just a crucial signing here and as you guys have heard longtime Snapper Patrick scales he's out for about six weeks and this is following a back injury and surgery the Bears were just in big need of a new Snapper and they chose a local product Scott Daly he's originally from Downer's Grove he played his college football at Notre Dame and he looks he just looks like yet another really nice signing a bit of a steal by GM Ryan PS and I also want to get into in this video how GM Ryan PS he's taking advantage of some practice squad rules and has actually kept some roster flexibility as well just a little crafty here so a lot to get to here this signing is just Ultra important let's get into why and it's a matter of position The Long Snapper it's kind of I I guess you would say it's kind of a Mr Anonymous on the football team maybe he the long samper is like the most unheralded player in all of football and the job is so important it's carved its own Niche into football over the decades and the Bears have been spoiled by a good one and that's Patrick Manley he's been the Long Snapper for this team for 16 years that's unbelievable and this is how good he's been he's so good at his job and this is from recent interview he can deliver the laces exactly where the kicker or puncher wants them every single time he actually even knows how many rotations the ball makes when he snaps just a specialty player his only responsibility is this to hone snapping the ball he's just so accurate we rarely think about long Stampers right unless he screw up it's like an offensive lineman you don't want to hear your name as an offensive lineman called during a game that means you're doing a great job and we also have new stud Tory Taylor coming from maybe being the best punter that college football has ever seen one of the most accurate kickers in the league in Santos this Long Snapper role is just crucial and by all counts daily looks like yet another nice pull by JM Ryan PS in Wendy City GD iron they've been providing some really good playoff some really good player profiles here just a lot of help I just always want to give them props they are the gold standard so check it out this is from former Scout Greg Gabriel you guys know who he is and uh he talks about how Dy isn't a big guy but typically long Snappers aren't 62 248 pounds coming into the league back in 2017 and he's bounced around a bit three different Pro leagues he he was with the Dallas Cowboys and 18 he didn't make it through training camp then he had a cup of coffee with in the AA with San Antonio back in 2019 then XFL for the guardians but the really important stop here was in yes Detroit that's when he was their Long Snapper for the last three seasons and he just did a really nice job there this is a guy who gets the ball out of his hands quickly no hitch and a super tight Spin and he just checks all the boxes and we're really fortunate to have found him and Greg Gabriel once again he had this to say and I'm just going to hear it from him he's accurate with both Punt and Pat field goal snaps by consistently placing the ball in the right spot he has no hitch with his snap and this is important as it can save more than a tenth of a second in snap time with the Snapper the quicker the snap the better excuse me that snap has to have velocity and accuracy and that's exactly what daily has and I really love what the Bears have done as well to Keep Rocks roster flexibility as scales heels up even this is a little crafty on the part of polls he doesn't really miss an angle and this is why Dy was signed to the practice squad but he'll be brought up on game day to do the snapping the the Bears can do that for three games but after that he has to be brought up to the 53 as a regular s player so in essence GM Ryan PS has given the Bears an extra roster spot by doing it in this way and having daily on the practice squad early in the season that totally accomplishes and he's just going to be a quality replacement for scales until he can return to work but in the meantime for the first three weeks free roster spot what's wrong with that so kind of positionally and this is a this is a type of position that we don't talk about often so why sign a long Stamper I mean can't the center just do it that thought occurred to me this seems Elementary but let's just talk through the importance of this I mean this is a way bigger position on the team and it's one that we don't often think about so first of all to be a Long Snapper you need to be able to actually snap the ball to someone position that far back both correctly and quickly and if you've ever tried that personally it's not an easy thing to do way easier said than done it's a considerable distance back from a normal snap or even a shotgun especially on a punt so we're looking at the smallest mistake in the snap that can lead to the ball what what going over the puncher holder's head leading to a fumble the ball being too short not handled correctly also possibly leading to a fumble or a block this just makes the margin for error just so small it's way too small to allow someone else to do it other than players trained specifically to perform this task and secondly the build of the player in question that's usually different um The Situation's a little different you're looking at a normal Center he's only use for blocking after the play begins not the case for a Long Snapper again especially on a punt so having an extra player on the field that can get down the field after the ball's punted make a clean tackle that's a huge Advantage for the kicking team and that's why long Snappers typically have a more Loosely put a more athletic build than a normal Center so additionally think about how this benefits team practices right during practices team they spend a huge chunk of it working with their respective units like offense defense and special teams right the centers had a huge disadvantage because if he were to do the long snapping first he'd have to work with both the offense and the Special Teams the entire day it just makes more sense even if the center has the ability to do it it just makes more sense to just have a player specifically for the job that can work with the kickers and the punchers all day build that Rapport build that skill that scales has that he literally knows how many rotations the ball takes before it gets into the holder's hands to to me that's just absolutely mind-boggling to be able to hone in that well um the Bears have just been spoiled with a really really good one and Manny is the longest tenard player on this team he's seen GMS come and go he's seen coaches come and go he's just always been a guy that has just put his head down and went to work and honed his craft and into one of the best in the NFL so the Chicago Bears are going to have to be without him for at least six weeks man this signing is just huge I think he's going to be a great addition to the team and Dy looks like a guy that can just spin it with velocity he's super accurate he was a great player for the for Detroit not quite sure why they released him possibly it was a financial move that Detroit has had so many players to pay this year it could just be a cap casualty so the Bears are super lucky to get him GM Ryan poles has been crafty in the roster makeup um getting that free roster spot for a few weeks that's just lowkey brilliant and it's what he should do as a GM it's just so nice to be in this spot and I can't wait for real football you guys let me know what you think about this underrated signing let me know what you would like covered heading into this Tennessee game and I'll do everything in my power to honor that so Bear Down friends enjoy this week and I'll talk to you soon see
