the Nathan Nat and sea podcast I've got to the stage where I was thinking I was going pretty well with the kids in terms of you know you they when they turn into a certain age which is generally their teenage years they can be a handful but I haven't really found it that bad there's there's two things that can happen to a parent then either the kids get really defiant and they're like slamming doors and going you don't know me a lot in your face and I hate or they're just mortifyingly embarrassed by you and like they like you the cringiest creature in the world and you go no no I'm a big deal just ask me and then you that's when you show them your highlights real right God they get they walk out of the room quickly seen it so many times yeah um but uh just recently I've just noticed some behavior from my younger son olle and it's the it's the terminology he's using towards me and Megan in the household okay so beloved mother beloved father no no no that gets put down down uh that's that's Wally gone it's now bro to Megan and I at any stage he jumps in the car the day before yesterday I picked him up and and it started the night before where he's calling Megan's going off off her chops when she starts getting she just starts she just starts grabbing everything and your room's not clean and this didn't happen and and he's just going settle down bro like what the hell's with the Bro thing so anyway let it pass cuz it was it was night time and I couldn't be bothered dealing with anything and I just wanted to sit down watch yeah you don't want conflict between your bro so when I picked him up the other day he gets in the car and I thought this is good opportunity I said mate just on what mom was talking about the other other day how about you start putting in at school how about you just start putting in and here's another here's another recipe for Success listen to what the teacher says and if you don't understand you ask a question you providing academic advice is a little bit Rich I'll be honest year 12 certificate it's in the bag thank you was Christie secret denominan follow the lord we had a really good football team that year just saying we were we never lost a game anyway so he he's he just he just head his head goes back in the chair he's hearing a oh God yeah so broo his eyes rolled so hard that his head tipped back and then he just started calling you bro started calling me bro you don't get it and I said oh get it of course and stop calling me bro first of all all you have to do is you just have to pass meate yes it's not that odd yeah just turn up so and everyone's happy M gets I don't give you a just look like you're trying yeah and then he said well I'm not playing at the moment because he's been in for a long time that's taken up a lot of ahead space for him cuz he's thinking about not playing footy yeah but the whole time still calling me bro so because not playing 40 should open up a lot more time for him to do the school work less time more more time well he's got more time to concentrate on school cuz he's not playing football no cuz he is playing football and therefore he's not worrying about not playing football work that out now I wasy I was at a friend's house last Saturday two teenage daughters about the same age one's about the same age as Ollie and one's about 13 they first of all they call their mother by their first name by her first name so it's like oh Sandra don't be so dramatic and it's like no you not call you and then they were calling her bro two like so this is a household where there's three girls and yeah they're all calling one another bro and it's like I don't understand and when did teenag start talking like this I don't know it's pretty funny sometimes I don't know either bro we want to talk about conversing uh with your children sometimes it could be really difficult is it mystifying to you what have they do they just not call your mom and dad anymore like what what do they happen Jessica is an edge water hello Hi how are you he Jess great Jess okay are there teenagers in your life uh there's three teenage boys in my life so um yeah it's good fun so particularly my middle one has this different vocabulary so my husband and I are definitely both Bros for him um and I'm the only female in the house so it's not hard to distinguish that I'm not a bro yes um we we've got to the point with him where we've asked for a glossery so we've got not just bro we've got Sigma we've got cap and I just said one night you need to give M and dad a glossery so we can actually have a conversation with you okay so explain the sigma thing so the sigma means that it's fantastic so if he's saying Sigma he's doing something really good other things like he plays foies so if his footy good that's Sigma yeah I never heard that I I love that they're all over their Greek alphabet these days or mitsub bishies I don't know yeah yeah yeah my husband and I defin goes back to the MIT isue but no it's um it's the term for things being really good apparently wow all right that's hard to get through Jess is and what was the other one cap cap but that means you're lying oh you're lying does it really that if that's cat then that's not true that's a lie yeah right okay it's an interesting conversation that we have is it isn't it yeah we were getting it the other day we were on holidays oh last time we were on a break which is a couple of weeks ago they're talking about your dogs get your dogs out which are your feet hear that one get your dogs out yeah dogs we could end up with our own dictionary we're put something together J we'll all be a to get through that was Sigma Jess thank you um sounds like it doesn't sound right Emily's in mandra hello hello how you going great have you got teenagers in your life and how are they speaking to you I do I've got a 14 and a half year old and mostly he doesn't speak to me I just get eyebrow raises doesn't even look in my direction don't get any eye contact then when I'm cranky about something and telling him off asking for help whatever it is he tells me to chill out Mage and it just driving me insane and we get the chill out mate oh my wife does all so on the one hand he's actually speaking to you so that's nice um rather than yeah so so normally if you say something to him and it's not it doesn't warrant a chill out mate but he still obviously doesn't want to engage in he just kind of widens his eyes and raises his eyebrows as he's looking away from you yeah I can I can picture it it drives me insane absolutely drives me insane it's not got a few horror years ahead of you I'm afraid Emily good luck good luck we wish you all the best d hello hello how are you good okay talk to us about the teenagers in your life and how do they speak to you okay I have some delightful little CHS one of which of male at 13 and a female at 15 so living the living the Delight you're right in the zone yes yeah yeah head down bum but um I just like to ask do you know what a translation of yes is do you know any other word that translates as yes okay so would you like um afternoon 2 when you get home yes Mom no right say bet bet bet is that in Sean for you bet well yes as in you bet but it's just so you sound like a goat when you do it do you want hey honey do you want a snack B yeah and there is no there is no apology anymore there is no I'm sorry it is my bad my bad yeah that I mean that is them really falling on their sword as they say my bad so they really mean that yeah yeah for them to admit that is extraordinary I haven't heard the BET one no I know bet yeah that's amazing it's not hard to say yes and all I know well it's the same amount of effort isn't it it's one one very brief syllable a shout out to well my friend Karen has texted me so her name is Karen but her she's got teenage daughters and they that she gets a lot of yeah bro nah bro don't go for Karen when her name is actually Karen which is unfortunate when they give feedback and then when they want something it's Mom of course yeah yeah yeah there's money involved I think yeah m mom mommy Nathan Nat and Sean podcast remember govern in the house he's been our West Coast Eagle for a few years has been awesome he's a great player it's because of the enormous amounts of money we pay him yes and need to get to know him he's a business owner these days we going to get to that kind of stuff later on G but I watched the start of the week and you were um you were taking care of the press conference for the Eagles spokes model yeah did they put you out hey it's your turn to get up there and yeah yeah it is it sort of does go in turns but it also some people get thrown in a little bit more for obvious reasons but um yeah was my turn what I liked about it g um is the way you handled the media that they're coming at you in different angles because they want to get a sound bite right but you seem to take it pretty comfortably and pretty like a lot of questions like what do you think of Harley raids that kind of thing yeah yeah and and and you kind of it's kind of water off the Ducks back to you and you don't really give them I think they're waiting for some kind of sensationalism sometimes they're not going to get it from you are they how do you play it what's your thought oh look they've got a couple out of me before but um no is it's just experience I guess the more the more you do it the more you learn and understand it but um yeah they come out with the same question in different ways yes and that's sometimes I'm like I just want to say what I yeah just answer that yeah 30 seconds ago so um no it's a little bit of a challenge with it but um at the same time you sort of get used to it and figure it out it actually what I was seeing that it it repres it was a great um representation of how G plays footy yeah because he's not fussed by the stuff that's going on levelheaded and I this is the the bow I was drawing and I was wondering if that had a lot to do with uh clearly a lot to do with your your family but the fact that you know you traveled around uh as a kid and and lived out in the country and you lived a different lifestyle than most that are just bought up in a a stock standard way yeah you think there's any Link in that yeah possibly I think there probably is yeah it's pretty deep the real deep noise why are you like you are well I don't know I think it's just like like Sean said just through experience I guess and um look I I love footy but I don't really take it too serious if that's I do take it seriously no it's not so um I get it and um understand it but um at the same time it's it's not everything but um yeah I just you just try and be yourself really you know how you see some players um during their career and that you know they're great players or whatever and you you worry about what's going to happen to them post football because you're like well this is they're so big now and then when that's taken away what will they be we don't worry about you go you're going to be fine you I don't know yeah I hope you've already got a business well established everything's fine yeah yeah it's fine for now I hopefully I can keep playing for as long as possible but um yeah and I got Plumbing electrical companies outside of footy which um I guess I'm lucky and also it's something I've passionate about the construction side I was a trade obviously before I got drafted not a trade sorry an apprentice yes um Sparky and then we uh yeah through my best mate D we started the plumbing about 9 years ago so um that's when I was didn't off I was I was going to be on the AFL list so I sort of had to had to start something go if this doesn't work out and I get cut um I can fall into that so and kept building it since yeah I get back to that shortly the game on the weekend against the goal coach Suns didn't work out started coaching um perspective they always talk about it's a Midfield War like yeah the Midfield seemed to have got beaten up pretty convincingly almost the opposite of what happened the week before when you beat up freem man yeah it's it it sort of does stting the midfield for sure that just gives you the best opportunity to win if you can get on top there but um yeah the boys started really well uh and then they're they're a great Midfield don't get me wrong they're um wit Jared is he's not getting smaller he's the big and Paul Bailey was up against it he's not obviously first string of Ruckman so um he was up against it and then their mids their quality um they just grind all day and they they did get hold of us in there but um yeah went down uh I think the boys fight was pretty good though and try do everything we could now did you miss your mate Tom Baris cuz it looked like you did because you guys have been the twin the twin pillars of the Eagles defense for sure oh of course I miss him um I love playing with he's one of the best mates so um I love playing with him and it makes my off little bit easier when he there but at the same time Harry Ed Woods I thought did really well for his first game they nearly had 70 odd inside 50s which as a bman you start get north north of 50 your back your back end is twitching a fair bit so uh don't get much rest out no no not a lot and you uh so yeah but I think I think the boys held up pretty well down back for the amount of Supply they got this game against 's going to be interesting expectations are it's going to be a really good performance by West Coast and there's an opportunity to win this game ID have kind of turned their fortunes around in the last couple of weeks although they had a draw last week as well so what do you what do what do you know about Idan that um can be dangerous uh Al they've got threats everywhere really same thing their midfields really strong uh they got lots of threats up forward and down back they're pretty sound so it's a holistic game but obviously like we just said before it probably starts in the Midfield with with getting our hands on it first and then um and then from there you know it's I guess it's played up either end hopefully it's up our end um the Ford end that'd be that'd be great and we keep it up there but um no it should be a great contest they're a good side they're completely different to last year and I'd like to think they were a little bit different to last year as well yeah I like to think that too we're talking footy to you go but we're just finding out a whole uh array of things you're doing on the side not on the side that you've got to look forward to when 40 finishes you're talking about your business which is Plumbing electrical and um the fact that there's growth and stuff like that but you finding a place to uh develop and keep the business moving forward in Aussie Park hasn't isn't that easy a lot of people be going through this there's not that much commercial property out there at the moment especially Aussie Park and Bell cataway so um if there's any real estate commercial real estate please reach out cuz we've been hunting high and low for for something so please reach out and find us what a great experience you looking into all these different Avenues yeah it's oh yeah like foot is not forever for sure um so yeah it's uh exciting takes my mind off footy when it needs to be so uh it helps helps my footy I think um having something outside just to to focus on and um and then when I do finish hopefully I can fall into it and of course you also have the mcgaven foundation which is a charitable um thing that you've got going on that most people don't even know about this and what you do is amazing thing work yeah no it's yeah it's cool it's we we love it I actually really love I get more out of this than anything so um yeah we've called the mum Foundation but it's named after my dad uh who's been sure it is um it's a proud name yes yes but um yeah we just we help disadvantage people get their driver's licenses which sounds very small to a lot of people but it's it's actually massive and um one for employment and opportunity in in their lives but more from the social side of things which we found and um yeah it's just a way for me to give back and also it's helped stad in an area that he's been in for 20 odd years worked to CL for 20 years so um he's got a lot of experience in this space uh and we me and him get to do it together obviously there's there's a board of people as well who are massive and help us out so much and contribute to it so much but um the trust of it is that it's difficult for disadvantaged people to find somebody to do the 50 hours with they need to do that supervised driving so if you don't have anybody in your life that can do that what do you do and you can't AFF driving lessons because they're expensive yeah so this is where your foundation steps in with mentors that will actually help them do their 50 hours yeah so there's obviously array of them one someone with a license that can actually take them two access to a car three the cost so um for us we take all that out out of it um and we have a driver Mentor that obviously sits in the car for 50 hours 50 hours over years so yeah we take them from start to finish get their L take them through the whole process um it's like a mentorship while you're in the cars as well and help with opportunities of work and any other small things that might pop up in their lives so um and then from there yeah get their license your employability rate after that is incredible isn't it yeah yeah we yeah a lot of our about just over 80% of our participants go straight into work so um that's just for us to try to create opportunity for them to um you're literally Chang kid lives it's amazing I didn't realize there's so many people who need your assistance in that manner like you've got a huge list yeah there's yeah there's huge weight list um it's almost it it it hurts us a little bit because we can't get to everyone we want to cuz we're obviously not for profit so we're we're just trying toing funding is a biggest thing for us so um you know we don't like advertising to that's probably why you guys want not to H it we don't want to advertise too much cuz we can't get to everyone right now but hopefully soon that'll change um hopefully government can come on board and anyone else out there that wants to help yeah fund us that'd be that'd be amazing so we can get to them but yeah there's thousands of people on weight list and we get 40 to 60 calls a day a day a day days yeah so how many people do you have in the program at any one time uh it it all depends on our mentors and stuff but we we we'd have a uh between 200 people sort of rolling through it once yeah um so yeah there's a lot of people and there's yeah there's obviously a fair few sitting uh and waiting and we want we want to try to get to them as soon as we can help them that's right um cuz it's intervention stuff this's is this is helping kids you know head in the right direction instead of the wrong direction yeah it's not even kids we've got a couple of 70 70y old people through that oh they never had their license no and they've got bills oh not bills but fines from driving without their license so part of our program is also which is a great initiative through the government is that if they come on board and actively trying to get their license you can start chiping away at those FS so um yeah it's we yeah we've had all agents we' had all different types of people come through and it's it's rewarding lies for granted don't we it's actually really good to hear it's really great to hear yeah yeah it sounds small everyone you just get we're blessed and we're lucky that's right we uh we can just get it really nearly but um for these people haven't had it for 70 years I know that's extraordinary isn't it yeah it's um yeah it's a massive impact and it's just a good way that I can help give back to the community what a positive change yeah it's great I really really enjoy it it's so good uh Tom and my boy Tommy brass is on the board with us so he's heavily involved um we got a lot of good people involved in this space so it's um it's awesome good on you go look forward to you having a crack think we could get any better but look at you guys no it's actually any pra for it please don't look at me like I'm no it's not about that it's purely to try and help and give back great opportunity
