Crystal Palace v West Ham live build up | fan commentary & interactive watch along

hello and welcome to buildup to good game as we're an hour and five minutes away from kickoff as it's Crystal Palace against West Ham United at sellur Park the teams are out in his very interesting selection by love Tey I'm sure everybody's gonna be loving the L I'm I'm looking forward to getting people's thoughts on the lineup actually but we'll go through it um it's unchanged from last week so Ariel in goal with suf MOS kilman Emerson at the back such in mid field slash up front with Rodriguez then we've got J B Lucas petta Ram cadus playing behind Mel Antonio Gonzo your thoughts on the starting 11 please well I think it's quite a brave uh selection decision actually and not not not a brave lineup but a brave selection decision I I've got lots of individual views on on the individual players so I haven't got a on siiz fits all overview of the team I think some of them deserve to retain their place and some of them don't how however what I do believe is is a is a is is an odd decision is I wouldn't call it a free hit but he gets a certain amount of leeway if he introduces the new guys today the new guys that maybe didn't start be uh be it to Debo if he changes some in Midfield if he plays Waka plays F Krug up front I you just I just think it gets a little bit more of an allowance uh if things don't go well today and I think if he if if this loses then I think he's just inviting some criticism upon himself for for for basically playing the same team which which functioned at times okay but component parts of it didn't seem to work and he's not convinc I feel that he's maybe rewarded a couple of players who didn't play particularly well so uh it's it's interesting it's disappointing um for me when I saw the line up it was unchanged I thought nah surely not surely it's not unchanged because listen if we played well against Aston Villa and we were unlucky I would completely understand it however I don't think we played well if we were better than Aston Villa I don't think we were we created very few chances against Villa and I thought ARA was reasonably busy and I thought Villa were unfortunate to only score two so as a result of that I was expecting changes and I can understand why lki on Match week one didn't start with razak to evil fuk I get it was perhaps wasn't my preference but I understand it however I'm struggling to understand why you would make some changes for today's game and it feels a little bit like we've got Pella Moyes in charge in the dogout this afternoon but it's it's listen if this was Mo I'd be kicking right off but because it's a new manager it's it's slight it's different you have a different Outlook and a different mentality and I think that's fair I think it's fair to judge him slightly different but I'd be lying if I said I was not disappointed when this starting 11 came out and I just hope for L's sake as much as anyone else that the players turn up today and when I say the players I mean suou such Antonio those ones in particular I hope they turn up because yeah like you said had he made changes not worked I think a lot of us would have Shrugged and said I get it but this one round don't know you said it's Brave I think it's the opposite actually I think it's gutless to pick this 11 I think it would been brave to to make the changes but we're going to know at full time whether it's worked or not um my optimism I I was you know I wasn't feeling confident for the game I was optimistic my optimism has decreased slightly truth be told after seeing our starting 11 yeah I mean it's it's it's a funny one look we did our buildup we did our preview I I thought MAV Panos deserved to his place so as I say it's not a one-sized fit so but you know you picked up the the three players for me that probably should have been replaced I don't feel it really worked with suou I I thought it did work with such but I just didn't want to see it again that's that's all I think I think the battering ram we weren't seeing such throwing himself in front of balls of being an auxiliary extra Center drop Center half that wasn't what was happening wasn't lots of blocks and clearances and headers he was being placed a battering R up up the top and I think think it worked I just didn't want to see it again I I thought it was a makeshift plan to you know just just just to get us through that game maybe um Antonio was poor he offered he offered nothing and I think as I mentioned before I think it's really important that that you do two things really when when you're putting a team out there and of course right sunshine and Stoke G yeah I turning my light on for some reason he wants to go 100% bright before it dims itself no in the middle no in the middle no um I think it's important that you that you reward people when they play well so I would say maver Panos you can justify that to tobo and you can say look you know what maver Panos played well you're gonna have to wait I think it's hard to to justify it to F Krug because I think F Krug can say hold on mate if I can't get in ahead of that I think that that's important you give substitutes um an opportunity to get in give give people the opportunity to earn the shirt and then also give people with the opportunity to keep the shirt you got to play well to keep the shirt you you'd certainly think so wak I thought was a tap in as well as his former Club you know I thought that was a an easy an easy one um to make but uh yeah it's it's it is funny it is funny what you say that about boys I got Troy Dean's words ringing in my ears when when he turned around and he he said on talks B he was with it was a Jim White there was one other person in the studio and he turned around and he said yeah he be he he could change things glasner and he does uh he does change his his shape sometimes that could be a 352 actually also looking at that if he wants to do it if you wanted to P Edward up next to mateta might also do that so uh I think there'll be a little twis in in the tail there he was true to his word glasner playing gayi even though he's I think it's the right thing for him bad for W but the right thing for him to do in terms of uh giving a you know the two-finger slute up to Newcastle quite frankly uh newcas gonna have to match palace's valuation their player Anderson still a big loss good good was a fair old fee to be I like him you know I can't say I don't like him because every time we played him recently I've picked him out as one of the players to watch but was it was 30 million was it who sorry the Anderson yeah have to fo him yeah a yeah yeah don't miss him don't miss him he's a good a good player for them really but I me you know Len they're a good team it's going midfielders hard to pick up Wharton and lurmer do not mind threading those risky balls into A's feet just outside our 18 yard but to punish Christal Palace or to hurt Crystal Palace I think we've got to get the ball wide especially on the Counterattack and we win it back quick transitions out to cadus and Bing because Mitchell and Muno will be really advaned they will go ahead of a and Edward to be in line with mateta really pushing our fullbacks back but that presents an opportunity for B and K cadus if they can pass them on but someone's gonna have to go in and help out petta with Warton and Lura if such and Rodriguez are occupied so interesting to see how we match up and tactically how we go about this transition because if we get right I think kadus and B could have a really good game today assuming kadus is on the left hand side they bench for the Hammers this after afternoon is as follows one change on the bench Edson Alvarez coming into place Andy Irving so the bench is as follows Lucas fabianski on there alongside Anan bazaka tobo and Creswell are on the bench as to our war house and Alvarez Somerville who came off the bench last week and looked very impressive is back on the bench and Danny in is on there alongside Nicholas F crew Irving is the latest player to miss out all together as Edson Alvarez returns but as much as if starting 11 is disappointing Edon Alva is back yeah and it's it's a really strong bench it really is they'll be on Eagles chat or whatever they're doing there's somebody now doing there two two um Die Hard Crystal Palace fans are are doing course it it's a good thing my biggest disappointment last weekend I mean there was there was quite a few things but I think the one the big the number one thing for me was how long it took to change it I was hoping that was something that was going to drastically change this season I don't mind to some extent I don't mind a manager getting the starting 11 incorrect it's going to happen what I do mind is amander sticking with his starting 11 when it's not working and continuing to stick with it post halime when it's not worked for 45 minutes you know when it get to the 45 minute Mark I think you become a bit naive if you think in the next 5 10 minutes of the second half is suddenly going to start working I think you that you've had 45 it's it's half the match you've had what's the point of the next giving them 10 more minutes make your changes at half time you've got five substitutions it's a luxury to literally change half the Outfield players that you started with that is a huge percentage and last week they went in at half time I thinking surely su's coming off at The Brick here maybe Antonio as well make a couple of changes but you put the same team out and we got we were a little bit better in the first half how SEC at the start of second half however we were better at the end end of the first half as well so it's almost like the momentum just continued a little bit but that's why that's why I think you did it Gio honestly I thought the same as you but I actually our best spell was I know you felt the same as well was between 35 minutes and 65 minutes so but I I I was as working really I would argue maybe in that 45 to 65 minutes F we could have been even better had he made changes at half time it's not like sufal was one in that at the start of second half it wasn't like he was going down the line whipping in the crosses and anonio was unlucky not to score and and they continued to be poor um so that was what I was most disappointed by the team came out the same and they just we're waiting until like 7th minute or something for Subs I wasit like come on know what what what needs to happen so today look at that bench just if you get to like the starting 11 is what it is we can't change it now well it could but he won't but if it doesn't work out if it's not going well come half time just be ruthless make the change at half timee don't wait until we're so far into the second half and then the subs have only got 20 25 minutes scor to make a difference give them 45 minutes to make a difference um I'll tell you what though play Bournemouth on Wednesday our team against Bournemouth is going to be bloody good Somerville fol hey we're gonna have um I'm looking forward to Wednesday's buildup sure all these new signings playing Juan bazaka Midfield when such buggers up up the front right I would understand it if he was doing that but sual is not really technically gifted enough to do that anyway he's not um canello or whatever do you the style of football to change massively let's put it that way I didn't expect that um and I think it was a big separation between him and amarim who we went uh to first of all but I I think I certainly did allow myself to think he you know he wouldn't quite be I don't think anyone's as cautious as Moyes and I certainly allowed myself to think he might not be quite as cautious as David Moyes I think it's clear now he is a very cautious manager so um yeah it's a bit of a yeah what can you do we're gonna have to sit and be patient I guess James is saying jine jior the semi press the from some exotic location and he looked like just a very uh swarthy handsome man then he would get all the app this but he's he's a fantastic player um but yeah hit the comments we've ignored them for always put crosses in the box now big problem for me and a big problem I had last week and what I'm really noticing actually is arola fabianski was always one of those that never came off his and arola for me when we got this new defense and he sees everything in front of him he's got to be commanding that box a lot more so I'm not really he's not a vocal goalkeeper um and I don't think he's got a great come on of his area great shot stopper um but I want to see more from marola as well I think he's getting a bit of a a free ride at the moment he is part of that defense so you know he's players were ready for the cross to come in and as a drifted out to 212 yards away and again as I've said frustrates me people forgot that they best they like oh yeah they're best player Mark him of one that arola my number two premier league uh goalkeeper and his wife's number one uh saved well with his foot stuck out but a could have actually scored that one that was palace's what I would say their best chance the ball they did have a good cross which just rolled all the way across the box so wasn't technically a chance but should have been that didn't go in E had his uh really really nice shot um around 40 minutes or something like that that didn't go in so we've got the r of the green um that's the first positive uh what's your what's your top positive the clean sheet I think it's uh you know very impressive we keep a clean sheet gives us a great chance so um doesn't not one not a great game for the neutral I think it's one of those sort of Scrappy games not a huge amount of action not any amazing save to to Really shout about but um going in with a clean sheet bringing on some fresh legs from a talented Subs bench which we have we haven't always had I think that's um that's positive so yeah I think that's that's that's a of pluses who would you who would you substitute who who would you bring off and on now um su su Antonio I mean yeah I agree with Jamie um I mean three at once maybe not because it is only nil nil but you want at least two um I think Antonio hasn't done that much wrong but also uh hasn't done anything do he had any service then he hasn't but then in a game like this it's I think it's you know firstly it's about coming to show for it as a basic um but also yeah if if you if you if you see how the way is going if you see how the game is going and you're on the pitch then just for me personally um just being a bit patient isn't um isn't really enough I mean yeah Hammer Time uh lucky to get to halftime level there's definite element of luck um we didn't really I think our closest chance were two one is um was in the first five minutes or so when kilman got a well uh from a bow in corner um oh did he get was it kilman or such got from the other one there were two kilman got for one such got for the other one and the same thing happened they glanced across goal Antonio was the closest player however I don't think there's anything he could have done with that he came out too fast slightly too far away um so he couldn't do anything with it that those were okay chances for us and then cus had uh right-footed shot uh which grazed the side netting um that was our that was our closest chance so that's the best we've done in then Palace yeah they they've had like I said as a goal as a shot that should probably have been a goal um but Ariola stuck his foot out well as's um as shot against the crossbar could have obviously dipped in nothing the goalkeeper could have done about that it was an amazing shot so positives are that it's nil nil and other positives we're not playing badly we're not I wouldn't say we're playing badly at all we're just being a bit frustrating because Palace are flat-footed not that up for it um relatively speaking they're not doing that badly but I just you know the way the game is playing if anything it's not about moaning it's just about questioning what is going to happen with the players on the pitch because if such is on the pitch and he doesn't score then he stops a lot of actual football happening um Co that that shot by is a I can't believe can't believe because in the first half we were playing it around the back even then we did start to lump it forward a bit if we can just get back to that point of playing around the back of bit and making them to say waka just because um of of he just came on and changed it he just came on the pitch and did things that you want your new signing Aaron Waka to do in that there was like Scrappy moments and we were waiting for someone to do something and then he just came on and from so deep got possession and was like you know what I'm just going to like [ __ ] past a couple of people hair up do this do that and that led um that led to the goal and that kind of just shows everyone that you know what they hadn't been doing taking things by Scruff of neck in a a figurative way and literally just doing something really neat and tidy and smart um so that was just that was just like a like a movie moment of his first like two minutes as a West Ham player yeah so in 19 plus three funny by I've just seen that replay of when just bombed out Ian a lot of people have saying kilman's man of the match um but only I think only because Waka hasn't been on long enough but I think he did made that impact line perfect pass weighted angle he knew B was there um and that's you know that's Central defensive place so all in all brightens people's mood um quieten the nicetas from for five minutes five
