e [Music] [Applause] hello and welcome everyone welcome tennis enthusiasts tennis fans tennis players we are the tennis Geeks now there is always so much happening in the world of tennis and uh the rise and fall of absolutely everything and uh that's where we come in we're former Pros I'm somdev D varman this is my good friend purav Raja and together yes we are former Pros but we are forever ever tennis Geeks so it's a pleasure to be on and we've finally done it huh we finally made this happen somehow and uh we're here to cover everything that you guys want to talk about in your comments just leave your comments and let us know what we have to cover and we'll be happy to take you through our analysis and our feedback on on certain chapters so let's get on so let's start this week yeah let's start with this and uh first things up we're going to have the order of play for our show uh we're going to talk about how the draws look both the men's and the women's remember this is uh we didn't talk about the the opening week so we're going to talk about how week one went in both the men's and the women's draws which also leads to the upsets the upsets lead to the opportunities Talk of the tour that's going to be a fun one and uh yes no bonus points we had to talk about uh the things that uh is happening and also we leave you finally with break points of the day things that you need to think about as the US Open continues over here but uh first up Men's draw and uh we won't start with the top half the tennis Geeks uh always start with uh the current action that's currently happening this is the third quarter we're going to take you through quarter by quarter this is the third quarter purv how do you how' you how' you see this go through I mean now we know that Taylor Fritz obviously is through when he is in the quarterfinals he won a tough you know fouret match today and I think it it's kind of fitting when you talk about Taylor Fritz it's kind of fitting we know that Taylor Fritz is the guy who's not going to be content he's made a a few grand slam quarter finals he said at the start he would love to win a slam and what better opportunity than now s this is his time really to shine I mean Taylor Fritz you got to think this has got to be somewhere around an American slam now yeah it has to be remember no American has won the uh the US Open since Andy rodic did it about over 20 years ago now uh what Taylor Fritz has to go through through is uh Sasha Zev and Zev is uh taking care of business zev's taking care of business as well as as well as he can a great win against uh Nakashima and uh I meanor Fritz now honestly I think that's a that's a great win for Sasha again winning in four sets Nakashima was playing some you know some great ball recently and it's it'll be a I think this is a really really tough match for both of them I think it's Z's match to lose I think it's Z slam to lose I mean I we will come to Yanik sinner but I think it's very of Slam to lose now and you know when he is playing Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals I think if he's odds on favorite to win that one yeah and keep in mind at the bottom half that's where uh all the action is happening with Novak jokovic out so we have finished the third quarter going over to the fourth quarter with Novak now losing that has opened up the things for pretty much everybody else in the draw yeah I think you know now obviously again we know that dimitro has come through I can't believe I'm saying this after so many after so many months but I have to say finally dimitrov's come through and what a match he played five sets against rublev rublev again struggling at the I mean we always see him struggle at the quarterfinal hurdle but struggling at the fourth round hurdle which makes me think s what is next for rublev what is to come for this guy 10 quarterfinals 10 times and now fourth round against the mitrov I mean did he did play a great match but demitro just improved so much and is rublev always going to be this journeyman type of play I mean journeyman is Harsh I keep saying that's harsh I a non- grand slam Champion material I mean 10 quarterfinals is these are the sort of matches you absolutely have to win considering when Novak jokovic is in your quarter and he loses now before we get to Francis Tio who who did get the better of Alexi poin you do have to talk about that big match poin taking Novak out but uh we will get to that at the upsets that will be just after we talk about the draw but uh incredible stuff from Francis tier 4 from for poin I think it was something similar to uh you know BK vanzan scho who you know took out had the best best win of his career taking out Carlos alarz and then went down in straight sets to Draper it's very similar with poin because he's obviously played fantastic tennis to get to this point he's uh you know one Toronto he's I mean top top player he came into that match with a lot of belief but in this one I mean just felt a little deflated but I mean props to Francis tier for for getting through that uh fourth round match yeah I mean you know amazing effort can you think about just beating the greatest player of all time and then coming out and then having to play another four matches to win your slam that's a lot of work and you've just won your first Master Series event think about how much Alexi poin has had to go through in the last month and he's come through some Mammoth challenges I mean when you see Novak jovic on the other side of the draw on on the same side of y draw you're pretty much you know that that's your last time out at Ares you know you're going to play your last match at that point he's not done this for 18 years this is his worst loss for 18 years no Novak jovic the last time he lost was in the third round and it was to Leon hu who was also in the Box watching poin so that's the that's the achievement we're talking about these type of achievements poin just become a seeded player he's now in the top 20 he's now chasing tournaments that he never even dreamt of credit to his coaching team and I'm sure we'll come to that but you know just just on the whole pin's been through so much and now another challenge in Francis tier for I mean I think it was one challenge too many for one month I do agree and if you just look at how well poin did or how he rather after after winning in Montreal he goes to Cincinnati and loses in the opening round to LOM so I mean it just kind of feels like a similar Trend but take nothing away an absolutely incredible incredible win disrupting the entire draw now we finished the bottom section of the draw uh but this is what's to come and we're talking about Yanik sinner in the first section of the draw yeah I mean Yanik I mean just so much surrounding him isn't it when you talk about Yanik sinner there's just so much to talk about but you know he did struggle he was a set down against McKenzie McDonald he looked like you know shadow of the player he was and then finally he's just coming through and now now it's coming to age now he's beating M easily now he beat o Connell easily he's got a tough test against Tommy Paul I mean Tommy Paul for me is my favorite American to go deep and I say that he's got a very very tough draw you know he's got cner to can he beat C he can beat cner he can beat he has beaten s in the past he can he can beat different circumstances if I if I was to take chances on someone I'd take chances on Tommy Paul to go far in this tournament at least the and it's very tough for me to say that because TFO and Fritz have better draws than Tommy Paul but I just think he is the one who has had the most top 10 wins and I think he's the I'm my favorite American right now I mean yeah keep in mind Tommy's been having a great year semi-finals at Indian Wales semi-finals at Rome winning Queen so that's three different surfaces uh quarterfinals at wimby as well great job with the co coaching staff with Brad Stein but uh a mammoth task ahead uh that's what we have in the first quarter uh second quarter now uh moving on that's where so much of this action happened yes uh Stephano sitti pass losing I mean we'll get I mean what's up with sitti really what's up with sitti but uh more than anything else I want to talk about Nuno Borges from Mississippi State now coached by former player ruie Machado made the fourth round at the Aussie and uh yeah I mean Nuno I think Nuno bores what a win against menik though men's a guy save three match points menic is a guy we have to talk about in in the future I mean he's a guy I don't want tennis Geeks to forget about men sick and say that you know he's going to be top 30 for sure right I mean top 30 is you know you look at Players like this and it's a guarantee keep in mind there's two there's two teenagers in the top 100 of the men's ranking yakob menik and Jun Shen Shang and there's a reason when we see teenagers come out and have results like this yes he did uh lose six love in the fifth after having three match points against Nuno bores but in the future yakob menek is the real for sure we AB and and you know bores as well going for the best Portuguese player of all time if he wins the next match and this is a guy I played in a challenger final I mean three times in last year how'd you do we won two and we lost one but I mean I think we we won in Portugal and then he beat us in tenar in the final and just amazing to see how he's come on I mean we never thought he was playing with his friend cabal which he's doing again here just amazing how he's come such a long way from where we where he was like we never thought this that would be top 30 in the world we really never did and I mean again college players you got to give a shout out to college players cuz they're doing incredibly well uh obviously he's still around tough tough tough match against Daniel meddev someone he I mean fourth round in the Aussie fourth round over here talk about having a breakout season winning a title in bad as well on the clay took out Nadal yes it's not the same Nadal all of us know that but uh that's the first quarter the second quarter is the opportunity quarter because uh you know know there's just so much happening over there uh have we we have to talk about Carlos alcaras losing yes but with Carlos alcaras losing there's just so much opportunity opening up and we've talked about how talented Jack Draper is we've talked about how talented mahat is uh what do we make of that yeah I think you know if I was to say one thing from the show it's probably Jack Draper I mean Jack Draper is just someone who I think is just destined for greatness he probably can he's the only guy who I see froming who can take over the Andy marur mantle and I say that because I feel like he is Grand Slam material I don't think he'll win three grand slams like Andy I don't think anybody I mean that's that's a very tough ask but Jack Draper is definitely one to watch out for I think he and and matchak I mean mat's had a great he's had a great run as well I mean when they get going it's very very tough to stop to like Thomas Matra but you know I just feel like Jack Draper just big Lefty reminds me a bit of Ben Shelton just a little bit more solid from the Baseline a little bit more solid it tons of firep power he's won a title already this season uh but yes now moving on the other the second part of that uh second quarter let's be uh is is De minor Alex De minor one of my favorite players out there uh what can you say about Alex deor because for me it's a massive surprise yes Jordan Thompson being there this is only his second fourth round but Alex deor keep in mind to all our viewers uh quarterfinals quarterfinals of Wimbledon he has that hip issue doesn't take the court against Novak jokovic this is his next tournament yeah and he pulls out and he's uh and he's not caught for any doping so that's well he had well he had he had he had a some sort of a HP issue he went to Belgrade to get it treated uh and then finally it's great that we see someone like Alex deor you know who is now suddenly the favorite to go through to the semi-finals from his quarter and he's and he's is definitely when you look at that section that's Thompson matchak and Draper definitely we see Alex deor make his first Grand Slam semi-final and if he's not looking at it as his first Grand Slam semi-final surely he's looking at his best opportunity to make the Grand Slam sem no no question about and the reason we I mean I don't I don't know about Pur but the reason I really really like Alex deor is uh you know you see to talk about little guys making it in a in a big man's game uh he's been in the top 10 everybody's throughout his career everybody told him he didn't have the power he's the fastest guy he's so tenacious uh reminds me of a you know mini leaton huitt out there talk about a a guy that maximizes every single ounce of energy that he has and gets the best out of himself and that's Alex dear for you so he's put himself in this position once again miraculously after that injury at Wimbledon and now here you have to imagine against thomps I think I think Thompson has a chance but he's the Thompson I think has a chance I think Thompson serves really well and he's able to get another upset and he is Mr upset man I think he's not you know he's Proby not at his he's not going to be his fittest maybe because he's played so much tennis recently and just matter of how he's going to come through Alex deor also though come on we can't imagine he's going to be at his fittest I don't think he has been I mean he won the last two sets against Evans six love six yeah I don't think that was a match I think Evans just completely ran out of theme that wasn't really a tennis match it was just you know Evans going through the motions and at that level Evans doesn't lose love and love yeah I mean but keep in mind this is a you know Aussie versus Aussie I think Alex deau goes into this match knowing that he has the mental I mean surely you got to give Thompson some sort of chance here I really don't I I don't I don't give him I I just feel like he's going to have to play you know he's going to have to play just too many balls dear is not going to give him a whole lot of Errors surely that win against H catch though gives you some hope for Jordan Thompson listen Jordan Thompson is an unbelievable player again just talking about someone who's making the most of his career uh top 30 in the world now he's I mean he's an unbelievable player but I really I see it as a similar match and I think deor just has the goods to beat him yeah I mean dear is definitely favorite and that's why this this tournament is just so exciting the US Open right now because there is no heavy favorite anymore there's no heavy heavy favorite I mean and and that that brings me to the next Point Let's summarize exactly where we at CU now we've gone through all the four quarters of the men's uh yes we saw the the bottom half kind of we see we know who the quarterfinalists are now from the bottom half the top half we're yet to see but you know we have 12 players left uh in my opinion there is a clear favorite because there's only two players left in the draw that have one majors and that's Sinner and that's medev and they happen to be in the same quarter yeah I just I I I just can't see how sinner is going to recover mentally from everything he's going through and medev has never been a favorite at any slam this year and I just feel like it's since since Australia medev has not made a final and may he made one final in Rotterdam and that's it and then we're talking about February and now he's at serve concerns we're not talking about him anymore alcaras has won two slams in the process Novak's won the Olympics medvedev's kind of you know step back gear he's not in the big three anymore and I would put him in the same I would put him lower than Zev today I'd put him probably at a lower favorite you're just saying that cuz he's in the first quarter yeah maybe I mean but look at it this way medev now has bges heavy favorite there medev last year then has s though then has s if if if if sinner gets through Paul of course but last year in the semi-finals I never count out Daniel medv last year in the semi-finals he had alcaras everybody thought that alcaras was going to play a great match beat medev and and set up that popcorn match against Novak in the final and medev play spoil sport yeah and and and and he sees he he's talked about it in his postm uh post match uh interviews where he said it's it's it's tough conditions for people to get field he just needs to take it one step at a time I believe he's going to get through borers with without a whole lot of problems look can medev can medev beat alarz in one in one match can he win another slam yes for sure he can but can he win can he be the next alcarez no he can't can he be the next not many people can but when we were talking about him after the US Open when he did beat Novak we were thinking this guy is the next big thing in tennis and unfortunately that's dipped I mean you are the harshest critic of tennis players of all time man that's di that's that and I'm saying that same thing about Zev now if he's going to be considered a multiple time Grand Slam Champion he better do it soon okay now let's talk about Americans Americans they all better do it soon I mean this has got to be the best chance that America has to win a major after Andy rodic won his yeah I mean you look at the rankings as well you look at cord you look at tier for you look at Shelton you look at you know Fritz you look at Paul they're all inside top 20 in the world they're between 10 and 20 in the world there's five Americans between 10 and 20 in the world and that's why it's it it is the opportunity for the Americans whoever wins the next match will be top 10 if Paul wins he'll be top 10 if Fritz wins he'll be top 10 cord and Shelton obviously out but if t for is obviously defending and he he goes through and he'll win a few more I mean just crazy to think that you know in the next we if you had to pick one American right now who would it be I mean just by the draw I have to pick frits but just by the I mean frits of I would go tier they have the favorable draw but by record and by people who I think can hit their upper limit or know going to be top five in the world and who've had the most top 10 wins I'm going to go Tommy Paul I think he's got the most game to be there and I I I don't mean game by I don't mean game by the other guys don't have game I just mean by he's done it and proven it and done it at 500 level done it at Master Series this year made a lot of runs beaten alarz beaten cner I just feel like he's had a lot more wins or you know wins that recognized wins than the other two all right now uh let's be honest Fritz has not missed the Grand Slam so far he's not so far he's not Fritz has Fritz has played uh I mean four quarterfinals so far and us I mean US Open tier for I love the guy but come on let he's done it once at the semi-finals and then gone through I'm and and yes we we will we will get to the upsets but for Fritz I have to say that the four quarterfinals that he's lost he's lost to Novak in in Australia that's acceptable lost to MTI that's a match where you think he goes in with a Chance W it should have I mean he believes that he could have won loses to Novak in US Open 23 loses to Rafa in 22 at uh at the US Open and now he he's got Z so you believe he's got a chance but okay the upsets that's the big talking point at the US Open so far uh and we have to start with the first one that uh that happened alcaras bork van and the xan school who saw that one coming yeah I mean I think BK's got to be one of the most up and down players tennis has ever seen I mean we saw such a bad match from him after that I mean he played one of the poorest matches I've ever seen he had five double Falls in a row I mean this is something that five five double Falls in a row this guy is just I mean through the roof it's just crazy five double Falls in a row and then he hit and and BK VZ out is one of those guys who just you know comes about he does things but I mean he loses he loses and he wins and that was the one match that he played what in Z what worries me more though is alarz saying that his mentality is an issue he needs to tackle his mental demons I mean what is this guy doing I mean he's just one two slams made the finals of the Olympics come through had one bad tournament and that too I mean he had a break he came back he's had one bad tournament and now approaching mental demons I mean that just gives players hope if I'm looking at alcaras I'm like Oh my God this guy is the next next best thing in tennis and he is going to win 10 15 grand STS surely you don't want to talk about your mental state EA does it too but she does it for different reasons she says oh I'm only a five time I was scared to approach Serena and I was you know I didn't know what Serena would tell me she gave me a pep talk but what is going on I mean this guy is the next best thing he is the two time he's the best player of the year for sure whatever happens now caros alaras is the player of 2024 and we're looking at him and we're saying oh um he has got a mental issue issue he's got mental demons to fight I mean yeah what is this coach thinking really because if you're if you're I mean I understand the uh lows and we'll come to that uh because Novak jokovic also lost we know that that's that's the next player we're going to discuss but uh we talked about the lows that a lot of these players had the because the Olympics it's it's not it's not about playing too much tennis right because it's two out of three sets yes the the surface changes can be hard uh clay grass back to Clay again now and then now back to hard obviously his preparation wasn't great we saw that at Cincinnati he said he played the worst match of his of his life and he lost to Mii now he's come out lost in straight sets does it have to do with the emotional state of losing after that Olympics yeah I mean I I I think it's I honestly don't think so because I think these guys get a lot of leeway in playing as little tournaments as they want really this is very different to a challenger player out there who's playing 30 40 weeks a year and he just has to carry on with his schedule alcaraz is playing 15 tournaments a year yes he deserves to play 15 because he wins a bunch of them and he wins the biggest tournaments in the world yes and and that's what it comes down to but at the same time alcaras has to be careful of saying oh yeah I've got mental demons and I think it's a bit of an excuse really if I'm honest I think I think this Olympics thing is a bit of an excuse the Olympic schedule came out last year at least last year if not more than 52 weeks ago they had to decide whether they are going to play the Olympics whether they are going to play Cincinnati Montreal and how they're going to approach the US Open that was the same for all players at the top that wasn't any different for anyone and alcaras just now is saying I need mental time off I need a break I I have to approach it I'm mentally not fine I mean don't say that it doesn't hold well for you because you are the best player in the world can he win 24 I mean I guess that's a big question he's tackled everything so well I mean he's tackled everything so well in his life that it's impossible for me to say no he cannot but right now I'm saying no he cannot so I'm saying I I just feel like he goes into every single tournament almost every single tournament as a clear favorite if not one of the big favorites 21 years old he's got a head start on the big three in terms of winning majors in different surfaces uh just one away from a career slam uh barring injury in my opinion it's going to be scary because he's 21 which means he's going to get faster he's going to get stronger he's going to get fitter he's he's already got an all quat game but uh anyway 24 is uh is the number is the number we in watch but for right now I think double digits is a certainty but no more than that all right uh well that's an opinion but uh talking about somebody who does have 24 Novak I mean the Olympic champion coming in here no one has defended the US Open title since Roger did it way back in 2008 uh I mean what's up with not that performance against uh poin for me 14 double Falls for somebody who's as good as a Novak jokovic uh I think he's just busy doing I mean it looked like a subdued performance it looked like someone who was tired it looked like someone who was not ready to win a slam everything that I didn't expect from Novak I saw it this time and I didn't see it for 18 years like I said I've not seen it for so much time that at the US Open he comes to obviously he had that thing with covid and the whole vaccination Scandal but every time he plays and hitting and hitting a line judge I mean we talk about all these things right when you talk about Novak you you think okay he's been through so many scandals but when he's on a tennis court you're thinking this guy is just destined to win he's going to win every single time somehow he's going to win and at 5 to win the fourth I still had hoped that he was going to win he's reach back a chance but just poin played a great match I mean give credit to poin he's out now but give him credit he played a great match just Novak just looked so subdued he looked like he really did not care and maybe it was injury maybe it wasn't Maybe it's the fact that he only but did Novak really play to win I mean the Olympics that's it I mean the Olympics is one thing uh but I want to talk a little bit about Novak Joko the the the load the emotional load that it could have had on Novak now back in 2016 Novak jokovic had not yet won a title at Roland garos and 2015 he lost to Stan which he I mean could have won should have won however you want to say it 2015 lost in the final to Rafa so 2016 he goes in there he's really got that whole emotional load of he needs to win his first r on G's title to be up there with the other guys goes out beats Andy Murray how does he respond goes to wimon loses third round to Sam query so I see this result over here uh similar have similarity I think like I think the Olympics is not the same because the Olympics is just the medal that he was the Olympics is just the medal that he was destined to win everybody's won everybody's got an Olympic medal in the top three it's fine it's RAF has got one Rogers got one Andy's got one Novak will have one it's fine it's not a big alcaras has one it's just it's not it's not a NE necessity to be his necessity was to differentiate himself from the rest if you ask him would he win 25 Grand Slams or win an Olympic medal I disagree with you one there's no question I think if he wins if he wins 25 Grand Slams now he's differentiating himself from the rest of course he of course he want come of course he wants an Olympic medal St of course he want one for his for the Legacy for everything that he's done yes he completed his big thing but let's let's be real I mean this we he played Everybody Plays tennis to win Grand Slams nobody nobody remember 24 yeah I mean everybody plays to win the 25th and and honestly like he'll be the greatest of all he is the greatest of but I'm just saying for the numbers and for Margaret court and for those reasons maybe that 25th one will have that much more resemblance than the other 24 and and and while while Serena couldn't do it and she would she would kill for the the 24th and now we're talking about you know the Novak and if he gets to 30 for example that's what differ he's not getting to 30 he's not getting to 30 I mean much how much longer I think it's fair to say we've reached the last chapter of the Novak Joko story we're two years away we're two years away for I mean we're eight slams away from calling that statement because I think and this is the only year he's not won a slam since 2016 17 I think this is the only year in 20 years where someone in the big three but the guy who took out Novak I think we have to give him due because his due time because Alex poin just an incredible effort talking about uh what a ridiculous season he's been having going out winning in Montreal his first ever Masters then comes up to the US Open I mean can we please talk about how well he's played since he's had zavier mise on his side Neville Godwin on his in his box we saw uh Jam CB we saw Leon huitt um and the importance of of how all of those have those people those personalities those former players have impacted someone like an Alexi poin yeah I think Alexi poin is one of the examples that you know sit sitti sitti should be talking about you know I think why can't why I mean I'm sure we'll get to that and I'm sure we'll get to sitti pass in a minute but I can get to it further I mean why can't sit pass take a step out of this book of Alexi po there there's like 15 players who have retired and the Mur retired Diego Schwartzman retired Dominic team retired I mean why can't he just take a page and just travel with I'm not saying they're ready to travel with sitti I'm just saying I'm just saying that surely there's a surely there's a role that he can play and surely there's a you know they also want to help top players they love tennis and we've SE I mean Andy loves tennis like I've never seen like you know no one else loves tennis more than him and just generally like it's just a matter of time sit he should learn from this he cannot just wait with his dad can he so I don't think so I I mean I think that there's a lot of value in having uh former players as your coach let's take take examples of you know Taylor Fritz he's working with Michael Russell Michael Russell was not a top top player he played with us he's probably better than both of us but but he's not a marquee name he's not he's not Mark Philipus let's say uh look at Yanik Yanik sinner is working with uh uh v notzi v notzi was never in the top 100 but but these kind of players Michael Russell v vzi zavier m I think they do a great job at not being at the Forefront uh and just doing the work that's absolutely required I mean in my opinion one of the best coaches that I've been around that I've seen that has the best track records is Larry stanki you know coached coached Andy rodic coached um uh Fernando Gonzalez we got to take we got to take a football analogy here and say that to our viewers and say that you know klopp and gu Guardiola weren't the best players in the world they were just they were great footballers klopp wasn't even a wasn't a barely a footballer and he was in division three and he played a little bit Guardiola was obviously a top footballer but he wasn't Gerard or Lampard he wasn't one of those guys and look at the managerial careers look at how they've changed look at a top Mourinho look at him look at the way he's changed look at Ferguson the way he's changed football so the best players don't necessarily make the best coaches they can become the best coaches and I don't have a problem with that but I think what we're look talking about here is brains behind the you know behind the man and brains behind the team and that's what we have to be looking at and the brains behind a Guardiola a klopp a Mourinho seem to be working far better than a Gerard and a Lampard I agree and I and and and it's just puzzling because at this point Steph cipas has been vocal about the fact that he's not happy with his coaching situation which I don't for the life of me understand you know why he can't change buta is happy with him Bosa is happy badosa is happy all right and that's our recap for the men's draw uh week one that's what we saw the action that we have left yes we'll see Yanik Sinner and Company in action again we got to tell our viewers to keep commenting and telling us if we've left out something to tell us to keep telling to you know find out what they want to hear about do they want to hear about Osaka's outfit do you want to hear about do you want to hear about anything else crazy just tell us yeah how how how ludicrous is our outfit by the way I mean I mean it's just it's where is tennis going like you're going to show what we going what are we going to show up in it's like a Gala Festival it's like seriously like it's like a Met Gala like all right uh let's talk about the women's draw now um yes we will geek it out we will go through the third quarter first because that's the action that we just saw today and uh when we're talking about the third quarter the first thing Barbara kova she goes out first second round I mean she's a Wimbledon champion I don't really know what's going on over there youan Wang 30 years old gets all the way to the fourth round and uh it's badosa it's badosa at the end of the day that uh finds a way to win that match and go through incredible it's just destiny that we just spoke about sitas and now we're talking about Bosa y in the same in the same qut in the first section no look she's come through she's had I remember I saw her play a full match against ruk kanu recently and I thought they both played very well in the Master Series event and you know Bosa won that and she just seems to be on a run she's obviously three in the world she's obviously you know tackled she's been through a lot she's been through an injury she's done everything right that I think sitpa should do she's done it she's come through she has a a good coaching team she has a re she has a good head on her shoulder she's playing the best tennis she takes the ball very early she dominates from the forehand side you know she's I I think she does everything really well we saw that again against Wang she's taking her opportunities plays Really Brave and turns up in the big matches that I can't say the same about a c pass who does doesn't you know I say that now but before I mean let's not forget City Pass was two sets to love up against no hold on hold on there because paa Bosa for somebody who was ranked two in the world she was ranked as high as two in the world um second quarter final only I mean yes she's obviously done a great job getting getting this far taking care of business especially once the uh draws opened up she was meant to play kova in the third in the third round plays Roose the qualifier tough match there I saw that match out outch she out of the tournament and she came back and somehow she's and then goes out one and two against youan Wang I mean that yaan Wang one was kind of one that I expected that's the first first uh fourth round that she made for so many I mean Wang did say that uh she did want to retire because she had an inj badosa did but I mean still incredible because now you have to believe that she can she thinks she can make semis because she's not got Coco gol she's got Navaro look I mean when we talking about someone like badosa she's at one breakup season she's had one great season she made two in the world and then she was injured so I can understand the reasons why basa wanted to retire but now that she's made this comeback she's happy I mean she's obviously Happy on the tennis store her boyfriend's there her support is there I mean she has to play tennis so tennis is the way forward it's great that she's you know she's playing and I think she can be back to two in the world women's tennis is crazy so she can be back to two in the world very soon Emma Navaro I mean next top 10 she is now guaranteed to be in the top top 10 when the new rankings come out she's played a ridiculous match now against she's the real spoiler to Coco gol I mean yeah two two slams in a row now two slams in a row what do you say about KOCO gol first because defending Champion is out 19 double Falls 19 double faults Scandal yeah I mean you can't serve 19 double faults and expect to 60 unforced errors that's a joke 60 60 unforced errors in the match I mean how do you expect to win that tennis match I mean you cannot the nerves are definitely not sorted for Coco gol which makes me think is she in the mix is she in there I mean is she we don't see that anymore sabalenka served two sabalenka serves two double Falls I mean I just and we're talking about somebody who had so many serving demons in the past I I just feel like women's tennis is fairly volatile yeah it's it's fairly volatile I can say the same about men now we can men now more more than men this this week more than more than Maybe This Year actually since since it's G gone on I mean got the odd semi-finalist popping in all the time now we get the odd semi-finalist all the time and we get two more here at least two more yeah and Jack Draper could be one of them could there's going to be a certainly a a firsttime semi-finalist but now let's let's put our attention now on the fourth quarter because that's where in my opinion the favorite the UN for me the favorite for the tournament is Arena sabalenka just taking care of business uh she lost in the final over here before but the way she's playing leading up to this winning in Cincinnati where she beat pulara she beat schwant she beat schwant 3 and three quite a drubbing it could have been much could have been much more dominating than that but but it's uh I mean it's arena sabalenka taking out Mertens no problems there at all yeah I think you know S sabalenka I mean we always knew this one's coming we in this draw that's the difference and that is the big difference that's the big difference between sabalenka and KOCO go while we can still put them in the same breath and we say the big three of women's tennis and we keep talking about them sabalenka and Schwan just seem to be that Notch up when we look at them in the draw we think look sabalenka is coming through schenk's coming through kokov well she can be upset and that and that's what happened happened in Wimbledon now it happened in US Open and you know I think sabalenka is just too strong her game has just come of age it's just too too strong she does everything but a lot lot better her power is just Relentless now uh another person in that draw that is still playing as we're doing the show right now is uh chin wenzen who is having a heck of a season up against Veet she's up a set right now uh but just talking about the season that chin winzen has had and and I want to get into the history of this just a little bit after we take a look at the the draw the Olympics uh the finals right yeah I mean this is the match that they played in the final it's a rematch uh Zen won that fairly straightforward I think she's pretty confident comfortable with this matchup tennis is so much about the match it's not play though it's not on Clay it's not on Clay but you're talking about Jen who's I mean made finals in Aussie and and the story over here I feel like is is unbelievable because chin winzen was working with Wim beset last year at the US Open uh where Koko goof was working with per Reba where she won the US Open uh end of the year comes around kokov says she doesn't have a whole lot of control over the coaching situations which as a tennis player I don't I don't like that I don't buy that if you're if you're the player you decide who your coach is if you just won US Open with Pera you don't fire him for somebody else you just don't do that uh now the story The what what transpired was Wim baset went to the Naomi Osaka Camp left chin winzen hanging Pera was out and you love these shuffles they always happen happen in the double store all the time at the end end of the year but coaching it happens as well Pera then joins Shin wenzen what do you know it just a month later Chinn Zang is in the finals of Aussie having a breakout season winning a gold medal uh at the Olympics and now is coming up with great performance after great performance establishing herself as one of the top players in the world challenging the big three and we I feel like we have to give a shout out to Chinese tennis yeah Chinese tennis and if you're listening and you want to turn pro hire per Reba no you got to hire you got you got to get this guy on your team I mean this guy seems to be a miracle man he's coming up with all the results right now and you know fair enough I think Quinn mang I'm not saying that you know she will lose and she's just set up right now she won't lose to Donna veic but at the same time Donna vich you know she's had a remarkable career she's come through so much and now to be in in a final and to be in the Olympic finals and now to make fourth round again we weren't talking about that she made semis she made semis at Wimbledon yeah we weren't talking about Donna vage at the start of this year we had all forgotten about after the Stan rinka inance we had all forgotten about Donna vage we had not even thought about I I wasn't thinking St incident but the injuries the injuries that she's been through but she's back uh and it's great to see chin win Zang do as well as she's doing but uh let's switch our attention we finished the bottom half of the uh of the women's draw uh let's go to the top half where we have one of the favorites I I I said my favorite saena but schwant has to be the second back into the fourth round now again Sam sonova I mean what do you make of this section look I don't think schwant is the same schwant we see at Roland garos but she still won the US Open before and she's still in there with you know I think I still put her in with the same chance as sabalenka samsonova I mean the last four in the last four sets samsonova has won five games so I mean so she's in the quarters so sh's in the quarters in the last five sets I mean this closest set has been 62 and they've played once that was really close and that was on Clay so I mean this is this is not a match for me this I love samsonova I think she plays really well and she's come through you know she's now top 16 in the world and credit to her for where she is girls like samsonova Schneider I'm sure we'll talk we'll be talking about these a little bit more in the future but just when you're talking about eashan just tough to see a lose this one well I I agree I completely agree but also on the top quarter we do see Daniel Collins uh this will be the last time that Daniel Collins plays uh uh in a major she's taking the year she's well she's she's done she's retiring at the end of the year of course uh but uh but yeah just taking a look at uh the first quarter a few of those names over there s Irani she's still popping in there but Diane Schneider what can we say about her I mean the young girl from Russia you know it's surprising she's 18 in the world and nobody knows her so and this is how poorly tennis is marketed we know so much so little about players like this and this could be the next Grand Slam Champion we haven't spoken about her at all and there are people on the men's draw as well I I say WTA ATP as well we Market players so poorly now that we are struggling when they do make it to the top we should looking at Mah is an example Draper dra we're not even talking tommmy Paul I mean Schneider just to again tell our viewers she's won three titles this year and she's won a title on hard she's won a title on grass and she's won a title on Clay wow and she's 20 years old she's had 46 wins she's 20 years old and 18 in the world 18 in the world and but the problem for her now is she has a certain Jess pegula who she just lost to in the Toronto uh in the semi-finals of Toronto four and three and uh pegula as well is just doing incredibly well to come P just come back from injury right yeah she has so I just yeah pegula is now you know this is her chance you got to feel she's the American I mean obviously we talk about sad that Danielle Collins retired after that season though that's sad but at the same time I mean is it really I think yes I think she's had the best season of her best I say she made a final against bti uh best season that I think she's playing her best tennis right now and just to retire at this juncture is pretty sad I mean I it is uh it is but maybe she has other challenges and Tennis is I was going to say I was going to say tennis is not the biggest thing for certain people and with when it comes to Daniel Collins you got to wish her well this is her choice you got to wish her well but uh couple people I have to talk about over here uh Sophia Kenan and Emma Ruku uh are we really looking at them as one slam wonders yeah we are and that's because they don't make it every time to that mix and we don't look at them in the same breath I mean we we they did win a grand slam but they don't put themselves in the same category anymore at least for the last you know few years they haven't and since Emma's I mean Emma got her first top 10 win against Pula just before Wimbledon and that's and that's the only top 10 win she has that's crazy that's a crazy statistic now again just talking about kenen uh since she won at Aussie 2020 she made the finals of Roland garas right after that since then 2020 that's she's played 14 slams she's made two fourth rounds two third rounds and the rest have been first and second exactly and and a similar story similar story with ruk kanu and I know that I know that you know we are both good friends but you more so with ruk kanu's current coach Nick Cav but Ruku won the US Open in 2021 she's played eight slams since fourth round at wimon 2024 now that's it the rest of them first and second yeah I mean and that's second round not in the mix and we got to put osta Peno as well in there and say that ostapenko has more of a chance she's been I think she's been more consistent I say she's still a one slam Wonder but kenin and Ruku I mean yes they've been plagued with injuries yes it's been very difficult for them emotionally yes Emma radano is a superstar in the UK right now but just it's anywhere in the world I mean she's probably one of the most instagrammed people ever seen but at the same time and that's not an excuse if you're going to do it in tennis and you're going to be there and that's not an excuse for Osaka either she's going to be forgotten soon if she doesn't come up with something she's a four time grandson I think I think Osaka's case is obviously different because she went through stuff and she came back now she's a mother bodies changed no no but I'm still saying they're still not Grand Slam champions anymore and we don't put them in the mix to be I understand and everybody and I say this with immense respect for what they're going through everybody goes through a lot of challenges and I'm telling you schwant going through a lot sabalenka went through a lot and she still comes out and she's and we know sabalenka has gone through a lot and any this year and anybody and she still come through and she still come out on top and she's still competing for Grand Slam titles so you know unfortunately nobody really has an excuse in tennis we don't yeah excuses don't matter the excuses don't matter but uh let's take a look at the last quarter the third the second quarter of the woman's draw uh which was headlined by riina pulling out once again yeah I mean rakina pulling out for it's a it's a it's a general thing if she doesn't play the I mean literally she either plays the tournament or she pulls out there's no losses she's pulled out six times this year say that again six times this year she's pulled out I mean this is something is definitely up I mean it's I mean she has split with her coach Stefano vukov but uh while she did pull out the I mean opportunity opened up for Caroline was niaki who just made a comeback here last year I thought it was miraculous that she made the round of 16 last year and guess what she's followed it up once again um and she's made it back to the fourth round it's unable it's great to see wasaki back you know tennis needs people like that tennis needs a wasaki she's one of the girls who kind of put tennis on the map kids there was a time with wasti and Shera we're watching all that together one in the world much and we need some of the past to keep playing and that's and that's great about women's tennis right and had admire as well what an effort what an effort but was niaki I have to say this I mean you know she always lacked even when she was number one in the world I think the I mean people tennis Geeks out there or or the experts whatever you want to call them would would all agree that she lacked power she lacked fire power she lacked the big you know and and and now at 34 years old after having two kids she still lacks that stuff yeah she still does and uh but she's 17 in the world she's played only 12 tournaments I think the rackets the technology stuff like that not that she wasn't playing with babad back then but I think she's realized what she can and cannot do and she's playing a lot more smart than she was playing before for I mean the back hand's an absolute dream that backand I mean she's not going to miss a whole lot of balls but for me the the thing is is that you know she's around 70 in the world right now but um she's only played 12 tournaments which is about half as much as everybody else has played so kind of obviously don't talk about her level her level is really high but for me if she continues playing like this top 30 would be miraculous top 25 would be miraculous another thing on the W on the WTA tour though you get a few more chances than you do on the ATP Tour so you do get a lot more wild cards you do get a lot more opportunities than you would do if you're a men's player so that's the good thing and we do see a lot of comeback stories in the women's store which we don't see that many on the men we see s we see so many on the women's store and that's because they get a few more chances even Ruku she's in well inside the top 100 now yeah you know so and that's and that's credit I mean that's great for the system I mean they go through a lot with pregnancy and stuff like that and they you know and I think it's a great system that they have that the Grand Slam Champions do get some sort of priorities yeah they do and uh she's making the best of her opportunities up against harad Maya that's going to be a really tough match and uh this is the last part of that third quarter what a year Pini is having things dreams are made of she's 28 years old gone and made a final uh gone and made two finals sorry finals two finals and now she's up against mova who I think could be tricky because mova in my opinion when she's healthy is one of the best players in the world certainly one of the best to watch I mean look at mova look at that section I mean that section is mova Osaka oeno right there and that's that's your first three names at the top I mean mova is 50 in the world she's played six tournaments 50 in the world six tournaments and Pini I mean look she's made two grand slam finals can you imagine someone of her height someone of her frame someone of her size to make two grand slam finals in a row nobody would have predicted this and to be a top top top doubles player I mean she plays doubles she plays singles and she's made fourth round of all the slams she's done Pini is just the perfect tennis professional right now I I agree and you know when you're out there uh coaching cuz that's what a lot I I I spend a lot of time on court when you look at an example like a Jasmine Pini you look at all your kids and you say that's exactly how you want to be because she's got the best energy that anybody could ever have she maximizes I know we said maximize with Alex dear earlier but Pini is just one of those players that gets the best out of herself puts herself in the right position Time After Time After Time and she's doing it once again over here can she beat mova I mean mova has got the better head-to-head she's three and0 against her so I think but a if I was if I in 2024 is very different but it's a healthy mova as well it's a healthy mova it'll be an entertaining match yeah I think for a super entertaining match and uh again we've gone through the four quarters of the men we've gone through the four quarters of the women now just summarizing where we're at with the draw as we go into week two uh what can we really expect schwant to me Still Remains one of the favorites sabalenka is the favorite for me but the rest of the draw how do we see it yeah I think you know you got to put makova in as the big Dark Horse makova and Pini I think if makova gets over that one she's the big Dark Horse to make you know we already see her make runs at slams every time she does play a slam she's heavy heavy favorite I think she's definitely one to watch out for we I honestly don't think it's Quinn winzen that I would watch out for but you know I think if I was to pick oneome I'm going to go Caroline makova I like that I I I I really do I I think that uh that's a very fair pick um all right well there you have it that's the women's draws right now everybody loves watching mova play I'm sure we're going to really enjoy that mova Pini matchup but uh it's time to now transition into from the draws from on court to off Court uh and the talk of the tour the talk of the tour undoubtedly uh has been the controversy that has surrounded the cloud that surrounded Yanik sinner uh and I know I know a lot of experts a lot of former Pros a lot of current Pros they've all had their two cense on it but um what do we make of it here yeah I mean just I think it's I you know the problem I face is that I'm sure we'll come to water and stuff but I I'm going to start and I'm sure you have a take on water but I'm going to start with the Crux and say the ATP really needs transparency and needs consistency the ATP needs to learn how to be consistent I'll just give you a small example why is yanic sinner if he's clean and I'm sure I I don't know the answer to that and I'm not one to judge that but and I'm sure everybody's doing a great job with that but why are half his points taken away and half not if if he is clean why are half taken away and half not and that's exactly the ATP for me they do half a job and then they don't do the other half and that they should issue a statement saying what am I doing what am I not because I'm sure you have a take on it I'll come to what he takes in a minute and what he's wrong I I I I agree with that because it one thing that absolutely doesn't make sense to me or as a former player is if he's clean why his Indian Wells points in prize money off yeah and if that's off then why is Miami not off yeah because he was tested in Indian Wales it was tested twice tested in Miami it was positive so why yeah it's just it's just puzzling yeah any one Miami so Miami should po go Miami should go both should be off both should be off for sure I I mean this is not a let's look at what he's taken some let's look at the pro let's look at what he's taken he's taken a a substance called CLA best CLA bestto CLA bestto right what is CLA bestto CLA bestto is an anabolic steroid that's what it is it's just a li it's just a form of anabolic steroid now we know what anabolic steroids do they improve performance they increase muscle mass and they improve recovery guess what you need to win a grand slam improve performance increase muscle mass and I I will say this and also why is the physio hired why is this physio fired now but why was he hired to if he didn't know what it was and he didn't know the harm no but but but but they knew about this way back in March why was he fired at the US Open right because he tested positive no but he he tested positive in March no because he was given because it came out positive no but they knew anyway that that's sin's decision maybe it was uh the pressure from the public you and all of that stuff like you said I we like Yanik we have nothing against I love Yan I think he's a great profession's great example but but here's the here's my problem leave leave yanix out of this the ATP has a history of being uh not transparent right everybody knows they covered up the Andre Agy thing yes that was not performance-enhancing but they covered it up now now in my opinion Vada is severely underfunded right they're the main organization they have a a yearly budget of roughly 50 million guess how many sporting organizations are under them 100 more than 650 more than 650 sporting organizations for for V with a budget of about 50 million it's it's not cutting it but that's the atp's fault for hiring them no it is in a sense but that comes that leads me to my next Point why can't the ATP try to protect its players a little bit more and and and I'll tell you and I'll tell you exactly what I mean the the mik yima case the fact that mik yima is now banned because he missed a drug test have we ever seen that in any single sport have we seen that in the NBA have we seen that in the NFL have we seen that in La Liga in the Premier League or all the big football leagues no the answer is no so why are tennis players scrutinized in that way yes it's is it is it a team sport thing or is it no I think it's just a consistency thing I think we have to be consistent because before we know it you're down a slippery slope you're down the slope of cycling you're down the slope of oh is he doing something is he not and you know subconsciously we're already there we're already there nobody asks about any any other you know anyone else nobody asks about Cristiano Ronaldo because guess what he's very well protected but everybody's asking about other players everybody's asking about nobody asks about a basketball player nobody asks is you know LeBron James why don't we ask about him why don't we ask about anybody I I just I just find it ludicrous I find it ludicrous that uh players are you you know how easy it is to to miss a whereabouts test because what we have to do as tennis players is is tell you know write in the whereabouts to W where we will be having dinner three Sundays from today and that's impossible and if you're off if you're off by 30 minutes that's one fail drug test and you have three chances so mik ymer missed a drug test and he's now banned is the the and and I feel like Common Sense should Prevail because is he positive for performance enhancing substance the answer is no yeah the answer is no so you know Victor troitsky was told by a doctor that he could come back and give his blood sample the next day he came back the next day that's a m test yeah look there's two things to this one is that in baseball die Diego Padres Diego Diego Padres was a baseball player he took CLA bestall and he got banned for two years okay he was a baseball player that got banned for the exactly the same substance and the last point I want to make is the ATP whatever you're saying come out with a statement and say it that's all I'm saying come out with a statement say what you think and that'll be the end of it but I'm sure you have a statement and I'm sure you're justified in your answers but the fact that we don't know it worries us that's all yeah I completely agree and that is what we have from uh to yes please please please send us your thoughts everybody needs to be in on these kind of conversations uh because things are not clear and at the end of the day we we just need to get better and the Geeks can help you out we can help you out and and we can continue these conversations for hours but uh again that ends our segment of T to talk of the tour the last thing we'll have to do is talk about the things that we need to look forward to at the US Open moving forward so far break points things that we need to think about um the first thing again we've talked about the draws of the men and women uh one of the things that uh has stood out to me with the doubles and I know that you love this uh is that Raj Rah and Salsbury are in the brink of on the brink of History three titles defending they've won I mean where am I going with this they've won the US Open the last three times they're trying to go for a fourth which has never ever been done the three in itself is historic I think the last time was 100 years ago or something like that something crazy but in recent history Rajiv RAM and Salsbury can they continue yes and the answer is they can and the answer is they one of the few teams lot of respect for them the reason I say lot of respect they stuck together through thick and thin they've stuck together when things were not good and they have had very very patchy spells where they didn't win matches and you know how tough it is for a double steam to stick through when you're losing every single day I mean one of the one of the most fun one of the most fun things as a tennis player at the end of the year is to be around the doubl do room because everybody's switching there's so many switches happening we don't need to remind India how tough it is to stay together as a no we really we really don't we won't even mention those names uh but uh but yes Rajiv RAM and Joe Salsbury gone through thick and thin they play this evening and they have a very tough match against lamens and wiro Rajiv and Salsbury have only won one title this year and that was the first week of the year in Adelaide they've made one final they're up against lamens and wiro who won four titles and three of them have been Atlanta DC and Winston s wow so they have a lot of yeah I mean they they have their work but I mean I think regie van Joe is still f at the same time you know obviously BS is out that's a big that's a big uh defending finalist I think that's the end of the Indian challenge I mean of course he's in the mixed doubles but for all generic purposes that's the end of the Indian men's and let's be honest I mean they look at Men's doubles as a as something that has all the points and you get into the draws based on men's doubles mixed doubles does not have points they do not have a ranking then is played only in the Grand Slam so you know as much as and we've seen bana not play quite a few times now as his body's getting of course it's great he is in the quarterfinals against ebden but you know he's the main tournament and the reason he's still playing is to go for these men's doubles titles and it's a shame that he's finally out yep and uh Yuki though good good match I mean I was just going to I was just going to go there Yuki and olivetti they went down to the top seeds but the problem is not that they went down the problem is the score line the it Happ I think the first match in the in a show court with olivetti olivetti really needs to work on uh Yuki olivetti really needs to work on how to hold serve on Yuki bamri serve I mean olivetti was poor at the net Yuki bamri one of the areas he really needs to work on is how to hold his serve with with his teammate and with his partner and then they can be the top 20 top 30 team that I was talking about I think they can be top 20 top 30 individually I think they can be a top 10 team I think they can really be very very good it's just about you know managing these few aspects well uh that's what we that's what we have uh that's our show for today thank you once again for joining us all you tennis fans thank you for geeking out with with us uh now we will be doing this for the rest of the uh US Open and following after that as well but let's just focus on the US Open we'll be here every day after the matches purav Raja and myself once again uh we've heard a lot of YouTubers do this so I guess we have to do it too if you like our content like please click sub subscri send us your comments guys let what you want to talk about yes and and we'll have an open Forum of discussion uh with anything that needs to be talked on uh with tennis so thanks again for for for watching the tennis Geeks
