Celebrating Jim Donovan: Tom Beres, Sara Shookman and Russ Mitchell reminisce with Jim and Laura

We have more blast from the past and current. I should say Russ Mitchell. Sarah shook and Tom is coming on in your channel. Three colleagues. Hi, Sarah, how are you? Good to see you. How are you, buddy? Nice to see you. Thank you. Are you enjoying all of this gush, gush gush? And you are welcome guys. Thanks for being here, Russ. Thanks for coming, you know, from your desk. You know what? It was a long commute, but it's worth it for Jimmy Donovan, sir. You know when uh when Russ got here um and he actually wasn't in the station yet but you, you were coming and it was, it was right around Christmas. I remember I was driving home home from uh a brown's practice in another futile season. But anyway, I was driving home and trying to get home and all of a sudden my, my cell phone rang and I didn't recognize the number. I picked it up and I went, hello and he goes, hey, Jim, it's Russ Mitchell and I go, yeah. Right. Ok. Yeah, Russ Mitchell. But, and there he was, he said, I'm, I'm really looking forward to working with you and we have had a great time. It is our dynamic duo. It has been so much fun and I think you guys would know this when Jimmy does sports. Obviously he does, he's off the cuff. He's, he's, he's doesn't use a teleprompter like the rest of us do. But what's fascinating is when Jimmy is not on camera, when, when there's video up, he's looking at us at the anchor, he's having a conversation with us and it is the coolest thing to see Jimmy Donovan giving you a personal sportscast. So if you could bottle that, if you could bottle that and sell it to other broadcasters, you'd be set for. Really? I might look into that. Look at the conversations we've been having out there. You know, how much we learned working alongside you because you, you really are a legend. And, uh, I think from each of you, we have gotten those special moments. Hey, there we are gang. We're, we're right there. Be 10 hours on the air that day at the Cavs championship parade. This must have been at the beginning. We still look pretty, Jim's telling us what's going on, what's gonna happen. You know, I'd like to tell people something. They might not know about you that you, if you have a Well, no, it's not that kind of all right. You have a very deep and abiding and, uh, genuine interest in politics. I always used to, you know, be looking forward to being on the seven o'clock show with you because you asked some of the most, you know, insightful cut to the chase, uh, you know, excellent questions that, uh, you know, that, that, uh, that I could look forward to. And, uh, you know, it is sort of ironic that on the day that your big announcement came out, something else happened that maybe slightly overshadowed the, uh, yes, yes, the, um, conviction of a president. Any, anytime I had a question. Uh, and in, when I first started here and I had, like I said earlier in the show, I had a lot of questions. Um, I would always go to somebody like Tom, because Tom was here, I would go to Joe Moss Brook. I would go, you know, to, to people like that. And they were always so helpful to me because I have to tell you when I started here, I, I thought the job was too big for me, you know, and they've really helped me. I remember the day that you came in for your interview. I was a savvy veteran of all of about two or three years. And I saw you coming in with this tussled hair and a lot of energy and I thought, gee, he looks like one of the Campbell kids. But, but I, I said this boy, I wonder, you know, it's, it's a big, but I, I thought that you had a something quality about you that uh uh was going to, you know, be able to develop into my goodness, what it's developed into today. So, so in the event that in this universe, we have a reincarnation thing, maybe if you come back, you could come back as a political guy. And if I come back, I could come back as a sports guy, you know, but you would be much better. That would be great. That would be great. Thanks for being here. We appreciate you and we know that you all have been just Sarah. It's so good to see you. How are the kids? They're good. I mean, just a crazy the swimming going. How's the swimming? We are in the pool almost every day this summer? I love you. I used to watch, she used to show me, she used to show me the swim lessons every day and I go, wow, those are rough. We take it pretty seriously. That's good. Well, thank you guys. Thank you again. Thank you so much.
