Royals vs. Cardinals Game 1 Highlights (7/10/24) | MLB Highlights

It is a beautiful day in ST Louis and boy, it's great to be back home after a rainy day yesterday. We've got a double header as we kick off the I 70 series. The Cardinals and the Royals battle at the crown jewel of the National League Bush Memorial Stadium here in ST Louis and Andre Polan who's got the start , eighth start of the year. Brad, his numbers getting better and better, the more he starts so get them again. Right. We're seeing Andre Polan just grow in his confidence out there. The pitch arsenal, the four seed , the sinker slider and curve that four seam curve combo. You're going to see that to the lefties. He's been running that sinker in on the right handers did a way better job against the righties in his last couple of starts. Michael garcia riding a three game hit streak leads off for the Royals and driven toward right Burleson coming in near the line. Alec has a lot of room still choking to the warning track and garcia flies out to start our game one up one down and here is Bobby Wood Junior and on the ground to second. There's good news, gets it on the ground. Two up, two down and Pasin is up this one softly hit two ground outs for Palante and a great start for him in the first inning. 11 pitches, three outs. So now Nolan Gorman and Marsh puts him away with a fastball third strikeout for Marsh, but Nolan Arenado hits a home run and at the end of two in ST Louis, the Cardinals lead one and a good start here in the third inning. That's ball for, here's another cardinal that's really come into his own. That's Alec Burleson and it's golf toward right. Renfroe will turn the bullpen a two strike rocket off the bat of Alec Burleson. It's 3 to 0 Cardinals. This thing gets out in a hurry home run number 15 for Buehrle just so comfortable regardless of the count. The scenario coming up, big leads it 3 to 0. Here's Goldie who took strike three his first time up. Strike three. Got him looking for the second time today with the big blow, the two run homer by Burleson and that triples the cardinal lead as we go to the fourth inning. 3 to 0. ST Louis Vinny Paso bounced out to first strike three pasin out on a delayed calls. First strikeout comes against a seven straight retired by Palante. Here's Perez swing back to back strikeouts for Palante. He has settled in beautifully to Renfro leads off the fifth, another 2 to 2 to Renfro down the right field line. Trickle third base side, tough play Palante glove slings to first not in time infield hit for Freddie Fermin and Renfro goes to third and now MJ Melendez who grounded out to second in the second, ripped to center field. That's a base hit for Melendez nearly splits the game. Nar picks it up on the track. Ren throws to score. Fin stops at third. MJ Melendez comes through with an RB I double. That's what we're talking about. MJ with his 14th double with a stake attached to it. So now let's see if the Royals can get it going. Pitching coach coming out there to see if they can, you know, get his breath back. He's one out for Garrett Hampson just like that and Hampson smacks it left center field into the gap. That plate's at least one remains in to score. Wilson waves Melendez around third, no front of the plate and the Royals have tied the game. That's exactly what you do. Wait for the cookie come through in the situation. Your skipper's gonna love you for it. And so Alec Marsh Garrett Hampson delivers a two run double. We've got a brand new ball game tied at three in the top of the fifth and the Royals are not done yet. See if Bobby Witt can bring Hampson in a two to two pitch, a swing and a foul tip and the catcher strike three strikes out. The Royals tied it and they couldn't take the lead. Perez is zero for 22 one to and he drills it deep to center turns around. There is Capitan Salvador Perez smokes a solo homer and that gives the Royals a 4 to 3 lead. You could tell by the sound all the way up here and the captain nailed that one. So the Royals lead for the first time today, three runs in the fifth and now is Salvi homer in the sixth. So two and two for, for me, check swing did he offer? Yes, he's out on strikes him out has hit one out to go to the bottom of the sixth and the Royals lead for the first time today. 43 MJ Melendez, it's off the top of the seventh inning in the air softly to left Donovan coming on dives and makes a great catch. That sounded harder hit than it was. And Donovan with a full layout, saves a hit for Melendez Royals at the top of the order and Michael Garcia against big 6 ft eight, chris Roycroft and a base hit the other way. So garcia hits his way on that gives him a four game streak. Let's see if Kansas City is aggressive on the bases trying to extend their lead. Bobby Witt junior zero for three struck out his last time sliced up the middle. That's a base hit. Bobby Junior extends hitting streak to eight games. Garcia goes first to third and the Royals have runners on the corners, nobody out in the top of the eighth. Bobby Baseball is at it again and now one of the best situational hitters in all of baseball this season passino and he skies it fairly deep left. Donovan makes the catch Garcia tags. Here's the throw, cut off another sacrifice fly for Vinny Pasin. That is his major league leading 10th of the season and the Royals lead 5 to 3 and here's Salvi to the left center that's a base hit and wit comes in to score easily. Down to their last out. Here's Nolan Arna sharply hit and a two game Cardinals aren't dead yet. He keeps the game alive and the Cardinals bring the potential tying run to the plate in Lars. That one gets away from Perez was running with the pitch and no further advance. He's in scoring position that takes away the forced play, add to the degree of difficulty flip to left center sen's in the gap and he makes the catch.
