there's a new anniversary model out and it's bizarre welcome back trog nights to your daily dose guitar information the trogly guitar show so I was on reverb one night and the title caught my attention a new 50th Anniversary Gibson Les Paul what's going on here so I click on it and it's just like a regular gold top here but this is a dealers 50th anniversary and I like models like these because they tend to get forgotten in the passing of time for example check out the house of guitars 30th Anniversary last Paul Studio I didn't find out about those until a couple of years ago when I had bought one but it's one of the Golden Era ebony fretboard Studios but with like the j200 crown inlays and a special Les Paul sign back plate and a cool perloid pick guard but this time it's not the guitar that's bizarre it's the Dealer's name bizarre guitars the owner's name is Greg golden and the 50th anniversary is your gold anniversary so they decided to do these all gold Les Paul standards and I just thought yeah we need to document that because this is B based on history because there are select all gold Les Paul models made in the ' 50s they would look like this now typically the finish on the back of the neck it's all grimy and starts to turn green and Flake away so to have a brand new version of that I just thought that was a cool idea so it needed to be documented but apparently Greg got the idea because his main gigging guitar is from 1954 he got the guitar in the early' 70s and it was routed for PFS it had the ab1 stop tail conversion and whoa the Finish checking and wear on that thing is crazy patina for days now you might look at the back and go huh that that one's not in all gold no it's not he took some artistic Liberties for this Gibson USA release in the whole 50th Anniversary as we were just talking about but hey it's fun I picked this one specifically because it has a lot of sinking wood grain within it but they've got like 20 or 30 of these in their shop just right now I'm not sure how many they're making Gibson USA doesn't like to do small batch runs so I'd imagine at least 50 but apparently some Custom Shop models might be coming in the future so if they're cool enough maybe I'll check those out too so cool all gold Les Paul Standard for $2,999 that's a $200 premium over the regular ones at the current time of recording no there's actually a few other special features here so the pickups we have an underwound 57 classic in the neck and a 57 Classic Plus in the bridge so underwound overwound that should be an interesting combination and apparently the Saddles are made out of titanium too and for some reason they opted to have golden speed knobs even though his original guitar doesn't have that I don't know maybe it's because it just adds extra extra gold having gold fret wire would have been a nice touch I suppose there's a point where you get two gold as far as our case looks like your regular Gibson USA style nothing too fancy I'm curious do we have a special paperwork nope does not look like it just your regular gibs and USA stuff freack checklist download our app basic strap looks like a black poker chip oh that'd be sweet all blacked out Plastics on the all gold and our Gibson multitool so to learn more about this one let's go ahead throw it on the workbench take an individual look at its parts and specs to see if we missed anything inside The Golden Child let's go ahead and verify these specs starting with this neck pickup sure enough 57 classic UW stands for underwound I don't think I've ever had one of these before so that's exciting but then our Bridge it's not like 57 o they already have something for that the 57 plus it wouldn't surprise me if this is how his original pafs read but that's 8.19 in our Bridge position the neck is 7.07 then the middle position for fun 3.8 check out how long the lead lengths are on these things but if nothing else Happ different pickups in here makes it a little bit more exciting than the regular burst bucker 1 and two that's normally in the 50s standard but here's inside our neck pickup cavity this is regular Gibson USA production so you don't have a long neck Tenon or anything like that and I don't see any identifying marks in here but we can't see the two-piece Maple top joining onto our mahogany body and wow I don't know if this is an anomaly or if they're actually taking time to make the routes perfectly smooth but at least these two sides are fantastic super flush although you can feel some bumps along the other Edge but our bridge and tail piece are going to be familiar it's a Gibson ab1 marked as such however it's mounted just like a Nashville style Bridge they just have a conversion post on it essentially and you also get the Allen key adjustment here if you want to use it I'm not sure if I would have noticed the Titan tanium Saddles had I not read the spec sheet but in person you can tell they're just a little bit more dull as compared to the shiny Chrome but I'm sure that's a spec that'll get lost to time on these but the tail piece is lightweight aluminum by API moving around the top nothing too crazy over here just a mild top carving to it till we get to our golden speed knobs which is unique for this model once again and here's what it looks like if you wanted to take the pick guard off you would just be left with a hole up here and the pick guard is is just your regular one nothing special here now let's move on from the body to the neck I opted not to condition this one first just to show you guys how it arrived there's like some Gunk or waxy buildup over here on the fretboard now I can tell it's going to clean off just fine at first I thought it was like glue seepage for The Binding but I don't think that's the case but it's a pretty nice dark rosewood fretboard you've got your acrylic trapezoid inlays let's go ahead and grab our Dimensions now kind of a wide nut 1.71 in increasing to 210 by the 89 first fret neck up and 98 by the 12 here's that neck profile at the first fret and the 12th fret just a standard C- shape not as big as like a custom shop R8 or anything but that's as big as Gibson USA goes as far as fit and finish you can kind of see a line right underneath the binding where you can tell the Finish is like bumping up and I think because it's kind of a semi-transparent gold finish it makes it look worse than it is or like it's extra unforgiving cuz you can see it right underneath the binding over here too so that's something to keep in mind that you might experience if you buy one of these there's not not like a super hard ledged Ridge or anything just a very tiny one now we're headstock nothing changed up here for the most part you just get your clusin style tuners with your Les PA model silk screen and then your gibs and mother of pearl logo PR rods in perfect shape on this one and reads standard however there is a plain one in the case if you want it to be installed here's the fretboard again nice and conditioned I did notice that there were relatively few tooling marks on this one as far as QC goes on the fretboard outside of a light cleaning it wasn't too bad the worst thing I found so far is just what we were talking about earlier however I noticed if you take your nail up and try to rub up on it there is a ridge right here you don't feel it in your normal playing position so just don't pick at it and you'll be okay now let's move on to the back I specifically picked this one out because it had so much wood grain showing again the shop had quite a few of them that you could choose from some less grainy looking than others but I just thought that was a really cool look it reminds me of many of different things but it's not like a satin finish it's still a full gloss and honestly it feels like they have a little bit of that Vos treatment to it that's not an advertised spec but it's not like super clean gloss but they do have a special back Medallion made of plastic saying bizar guitar 50th Anniversary Reno Nevada if you were to replace that no one would ever know it was a 50th anniversary and that was probably a good idea on their part cuz let's face it not everybody cares about this store they might not want it on their guitar they just want the whole all gold Les Paul Standard which I think is really cool however since we're kind of paying tribute to random 50s models here for the 50th Anniversary another way that they could have made this special was giving it a mahogany top and then we could have the same lacquer sink effect up here because a few gold tops in the ' 50s actually did have the mahogany body and top just like the Customs however when it comes to Gibson USA getting them to do small special runs it's only possible for a big selling dealer and let's face it they're not going to change their production up to have mahogany Tops on 5050 guitars they' probably have to order like 2,000 of them now let's take a peek inside our electronics at First It's relatively unassuming you got your orange drop capacitors with Gibson branded pots however I did notice something a little bit strange look at our grounding wire it's like obnoxiously tall touches the back plate comes over here and there wonder what the workers's reasoning for that was but here's our cream output Jack Plate they decided to use the large strap buttons on this model here's a look at the top one just got that flat top to it and the neck has more of that mahogany wood grain that you can see through now as far as I can remember this is the only all gold Les Paul Standard in regular production that they've made probably since about 2012 when they did the 52 go tops serial number dates this one to 2024 13th day of the year initial batch production number 35 made in USA Nashville but the trade-off for all that beautiful wood grain on the back is this was one of the heavier ones in the shop at 9 pack lb 14.7 Oz but let's go ahead plug it in and here how the special 57 classic sound [Music] so far I'd say these pickups sound great in this guitar [Music] I really like the combination of the underwound and the overwound it works so well together for chimy tones la [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] that's got a good neck pickup tone [Music] a [Music] [Applause] [Music] la [Music] [Music] if you were on the fence about one of these honestly I think you would like it those 57 Classics sound really good it's different than all the other 50s and 60s standards that are out there and when these first came out in 2019 they were just such fantastic breaths of fresh air but now that we have so many different iterations and dealer exclusives colors up to wazu it's nice to have something based within history but has a little bit of a different flavor to it with the 57 Classics and even if you already have a 57 classic equipped guitar it's nice that it's underwound and overwound it just gives you a different flavor that I thought sounded surprisingly vintage so I would suggest checking one of these out for me personally this one's a bit heavy but it sounds in place nicely so at least it has that going for it so if you're interested in being the next owner of this demo unit you can find it for say on my website otherwise as of right now there's only one dealer that you can get something exactly like this from but all right trites I hope you enjoyed tonight's episode don't forget to like comment and subscribe and we'll catch you tomorrow on the next one take care
