The latest news on DeAndre Hopkins injury

Houston Texans bears not playing their starters Texans not playing their starters but it is still NFL football in some form or fashion that we get to take in tonight but of course that's not the headline of this evening if you're a Titans fan the headline if you're a Titans fan is what Paul karski reported earlier today which is that DeAndre Hopkins is expected to miss a time period between four to six weeks having suffered a knee injury during practice uh and that has been confirmed so PK got it first and we have since followed up and tried to find out some more information on the situation but the initial diagnosis is suggesting a timeline between four and six weeks now how hard and fast that is remains to be seen it is as it's never an ideal situation when you lose a player to injury at this time of year right training camp preseason on the horizon and the starters expected to play in the preseason now obviously that's going to change for Hopkins but if you had to have a player Miss time it would be at this particular time of year and in a situation where the Titans are not used to being they actually have wide receiver depth that is worth examining further here so we'll get into that throughout the course of this evening show we'll talk about that wide receiver room we'll get to a weekend bounceback at the end as is the custom appreciate you guys filing on in and expected to miss some time I'm seeing some panic in the comment section like Amnesia on YouTube writing injury bug already hitting the Titans yet again how many more years can this happen this is wild well I mean it's not an injury bug it's one player uh no other player has sustained an injury in practice to date it'll happen right I mean guys will get hurt in the preseason guys will get hurt in the regular season this is this is not the injury bug so I don't you know one player missing time with a knee sprain is not the end of the world understandably it's a very good football player and DeAndre Hopkins and in this passing game you want to be able to maximize all the different weapons that you have and you know it is of note because he's in his 30s at this point he's 32 and we'll see how this impacts him moving forward but for the time being let's let's just focus on what we know about the situation so he had a wrap on his left leg during individual period early in the padded practice on Wednesday I also had one of you guys reach out to me who attended the Nissan Stadium practice on Saturday this past Saturday pointing out that he also had that leg wrap on his leg at the Nissan Stadium practice now do we know specifically that the the knee wrap is correlated to the knee sprain no we don't know that specifically uh Titans did not have practice today they will not have practice tomorrow well they will have a practice tomorrow but tomorrow is closed to the media by the way npf expected back in that practice tomorrow in some form or fashion of course we won't we won't see them again until Saturday uh oh boss man points out aier Cheeto AER is also missing some time with a calf injury that is that thank you for that uh clarification I had forgotten about azier a couple it's not been a couple of weeks yet he is expected to miss a couple of weeks after sustaining an injury early on in Camp so I appreciate boss man reminding me of that so yes two players and they're two starting players right a starting outside corner and a uh and a starting wide receiver is DeAndre Hopkins knee sprain related to Cheeto 's calf injury no not at this point but I understand why Titans fans are going to have PTSD anytime any injury to any important player pops up but this is what teams deal with every year right you are you are never going to finish the season with the roster that you started the season with right football just doesn't allow for that so we know that it happened uh in one of the practices here in the last couple of days and now uh with Hopkins who has 75 catches 1,57 yards and seven touchdowns last season they're going to need somebody to step up the timeline as I mentioned is expected or the initial diagnosis is expected to be between four and six weeks dealing with this knee sprain which would either take him up to the regular season uh with the uh a little before the regular season if we're talking about from today right when they will open up on September the 8th in more than a month from now at the Chicago Bears or it could be into the regular season we'll just have to find out the severity and how they approach it now there's a Titans dehop and the passing game uh for Scott on a scale of 1 to 10 it's a seven Matthew Maddox a six Chris Fraser says not a number but not worried six and a half five and a half three and a half I see all manner of ranges Derek is at a one on his level of concern so here's here's what I'll say it's not good right to not have DeAndre Hopkins out there and available is not good to have DeAndre Hopkins dealing with an injury is not good is it the end of the world no in fact you are more prepared for this than you have been at any other point in the last I'll say three years because For the First first time I mean certainly in my eight years covering the Tennessee Titans and I'm sure you could make the argument for the past 25 years of Titans era football there has never been as deep a wide receiver core as the one that they have now now is that saying a lot no because the Titans have a cursed wide receiver history as I don't have to tell you guys but for this particular instance it is of note because of tayin Burks and all the things that we talked about there because of NWI right now NWI becomes again more valuable continuing to prove his worth year after year after year so the level of concern uh that I have we'll get into here in just a second but first let's hear from offensive coordinator Nick Holtz on Levis and the wide receivers the one thing is they really all see the game so like we yesterday during special teams I think one of you know after our first kind of mildly scripted kind of light scripted where it was a lot of variation and stuff out there the amount of information they were able to give back to Will and to me and to Brian was like it was pretty impressive just that hey I saw the corner do this I did this hey if we see these things and you know we don't have all the plays in and we didn't have all the plays up yesterday but for those three their level of experience and knowledge for Will and for all of us I think it helps us in the long run so not concerned he's at a one Corey Heath is at a six for me I will say that I am at a I will say say that I am at a I'm also at a six I like six as a number there because he is a starting outside wide receiver and there is depth there so I'm not you know five alarm fire type of concerned but I don't trust tray and Burks yet until such time as I see evidence that tray and Burks is worthy of trust in these moments he will also have to stay available NWI I do have faith in um I you know I I guess I could have gone a five on a scale of one to 10 that feels you know you either need to go four or six there I feel like to have any kind of actual opinion on the situation I I am generally concerned I don't I don't like to see it Hopkins matters for this offense he's still a very good player and you know the question that's always going to come up whether it's fair or not fair because to his credit he played in all 17 games last year and there's nothing to say that he can't play in all 17 games the vast majority of the games again this year but he is again in his 30s as we've talked about didn't seem to impact him too much last year and I know he fought through it to play all 17 games and to prove that he was capable of that motivation is a huge thing for these athletes and it allows them to work through all manner of discomforts but I think that you know while a starter is out in a new passing game for a Young quarterback who needs options he can trust DeAndre hop is imminently trustable by the quarterback and by the coaching staff Trin Burks TBD and tayin Burks will be the primary backup to Ridley and the Hopkins we'll see how this impacts things and what it looks like for during the preseason so let's then talk about the wide receiver room maybe it's trayon Burks who you want to see step in or step up in this manner which wide receiver do you want to see step up while DeAndre Hopkins is out we'll talk about it together on Facebook YouTube Twitter and on Twitch uh here in just a second we'll read some of your comments in the meantime Cy Jackson says call me crazy I think 16 is finally going to be what we needed him to be talking about Tray and Burks and it's entirely possible this is a huge opportunity for him unfortunately with injury does come opportunity right that's the The Way of the World in professional sports uh especially as guys start to get up there in age and trayon Burks is still young and on a rookie contract and it is a critical year for tayin bgs but for DeAndre Hopkins you know as we've kind of talked about this before Titans are going to have options as to what they want to do at the end of the year with the wide receiver room they can draft another player they should draft another player at some point in time they can extend DeAndre Hopkins they still have Tayon Burks who can fill a role if he proves worthy based on this year's work uh I think that there is a there is a lot of these different things that you have to that you have to hone in on that you have to kind of be cognizant about with this wide receiver group because they're not all the same kind of player but there are some different skills that each of them bring to this situation there are some redundancies but they are pretty indivi they are pretty unique players even though jaquin Jackson and Kyle Phillips should be kind of the same thing right NWI is is a more a utility player than probably any of them right even though you know that Calvin Ridley can play all three positions as a wide receiver in an offense you know that DeAndre Hopkins has been able to play all three positions in this offense and the versatility that you bring to the table is is intriguing thing Tyler boor right not what you would call versatile but a very very high level slot player so this is this is something that I think is worth kind of chewing on for a little bit and thinking about because it doesn't just have to be TR and Burks uh dehop could be to Burks what bledo was to Brady I think that's a little much uh ran Knight says oh my God Ron slay it's tayin Burg's time truly it is this is this is his time to show that he is worthy of not just you know occupying space on the roster but potentially being a part of their solution moving forward Beyond this year because remember Boyd one-year deal Hopkins one year left on his current deal uh T Higgins is on his way next year Ching says I don't I I personally if I was a Titans fan I would not want T Higgins and it's not it's not got anything to do with t Higgins really the idea of it makes sense I understand why Brian Callahan being here makes sense I understand why but if they are oh I just saw Jason hiling uh the former Titans offensive line coach that's uh on the I guess he's on the bear staff I thought he was in Buffalo for some reason but that is uh that was funny to see him just uh on the screen there running out of the tunnel for the Hall of Fame game like seeing a like seeing a a ghost from the past right um but I think that the I think that there are a lot of different things about this that are worth paying attention to and T Higgins in particular I understand the idea of it it's not the best solution though the best solution is for them to draft a wide receiver that's not expensive you've already paid at the top of the tier 2 wide receiver Market this year for for Calvin Ridley and do I think Calvin Ridley's goingon to be worth it yeah now is a great example of why Calvin Ridley's worth it but um at some point you have to find a more costeffective way to manage your football team because you only have once this season starts you only have two years left on will Lev's rookie deal right a lot of decisions a lot of critical financial decisions are gonna have to be made in the next year year and a half so I think I think that when you when you talk about how to address the wide receiver position the answer first should always be try and draft organically try and grow the RO organically try and maintain cost Effectiveness moving forward as much as humanly possible and paying T Higgins north of you know somewhere between 20 and 25 million right a year and paying Calvin Ridley somewhere in the same area is not a sustainable business model because then you'll have to start taking from other positions right then lerus sne contract becomes a talking point then Jeff Simmons contract becomes a talking point everything become it everything just becomes so much harder when you're trying to you're trying to fill so many holes constantly with big money the way that they absolutely had to do this year it made sense next year you should be in a better place um somebody said uh MB said that brousard Chris brousard was talking about me today on The Odd Couple oh God that's I just I'm so happy that I'm not happy that DeAndre Hopkins uh got injured of course I am happy that there is other news so that I don't have to talk about this Jeff s anymore it's just I I can't imagine who's more over it you guys Jeff for me anyway uh but you know whatever I I haven't heard what Bruce Ard said but I'm sure it's along the same lines of everything else I've heard about the situation uh I think that there is a lot of there's a lot of different ways to look at this on a scale of one to 10 my concern level would be a six now for the wide receiver room that is there and that is available who would you like to see step up the most the most obvious answer and I don't think there's anything wrong with picking the most obvious answer most obvious answer is to see tray and Burks really come through and stride here so I don't think there's any audio with this video but [Music] [Applause] [Music] that's all right so some audio with that video that's will Lis completing a deep pass two different angles will Lis completing a deep pass down the sidelines to tayin Burks with practice Trin makes a spectacular catch trin's capable of doing that you guys know we were talking about him last offseason before he had his knee injury it's a really really tough situation that he's having to work through but for uh for the purposes of Tay and Burks again massive opportunity you would love to see him take advantage of it we will see if he's able to do so uh they're currently introduced producing the 2024 Pro Football Hall of Fame class at Canton right now the Bears and the Texans about to kick off here in a little bit I want to see the only reason that I really want to watch this game because I'm sure I'll get tired of it after two seasons of uh beit the the Bears backup quarterback or maybe Davis Mills who is I'm sure starting for Houston tonight I want to see the new kickoff so I don't want to keep you guys from being able to watch that for yourselves we'll get you over to this here in just a little bit but I would like to see tayin Burke step up I know that Nick Westbrook Aina is capable of stepping up I've seen NWI do it I need to see tayin Burks do it KY Phillips and jaquin Jackson not gonna completely rule them out of this conversation but they're they're more specific players they're more exclusively slot players though I think you can play with Phillips and Jaquan Jackson on the outside in certain settings and I would say if Tyler Boyd he is almost exclusively a slot receiver as well so it's not like that is going to be something that can just kind of bump next up the depth chart for DeAndre Hopkins while he's out that's a different kind of a situation uh Alex hman says I'm not considering Burks as an option until he proves he can be well um the only issue that I take with that statement Alex is that he has not yet proven that he can be I agree with that but you have no choice but to consider consider him as an option because because DeAndre Hopkins just got hurt there is no choice in tayin Burke's being an option he is literally going to have to be the next option on the depth chart whether he succeeds or fails in that role is yet to be determined but there you know whether or not you consider him is irrelevant he is going to be the player who is asked to pick up the slack here and we'll find out whether he's capable of doing that or not under new coaching staff and again the availability is the biggest question about Trin bgs to wrap things up with a weekend bounceback here on Facebook uh I'm I'm genu l so curious to know because I assume you're talking about the Jeff situation which by the way over and done with and and I'm glad for that but uh I would genuinely be curious to know whether Jeff when when he when we had that interaction whether Jeff realized he was gonna get that much negative feedback about it I I surely don't think that he did I you know I don't know how much he was considering the implications of what was going on there because he talked about it you know rage flip rage switch flipped after practice and that's when he's at his most heated so you know perhaps the implications were not considered but it was it was not a favorable look for him it's why he had to uh it's why he had to do the apology the way that he did and you know for what it's worth nobody was I personally was not demanding a public apology or anything like that but I did want to talk to Jeff which we accomplished so I I would be curious to know if he if he realized that he was going to get that much negative feedback because I honestly was surprised that there was that much negative feedback in Jeff direction as opposed to you know media people who are easy to hate I got plenty of too but still that's what it is uh let's uh Andrew Brown says the Olympic Committee allowing dudes box in the female division is absolutely disgusting uh oh okay this is this is a uh yeah Andrew you've got your you've got and that's okay because I know this got uh you know swirled around all over the place today um there was a there was an incident earlier today in females uh in women's boxing between an Italian athlete and I want to say a Moroccan athlete but I can't remember specifically the uh the uh the country that the other boxer was from but there was an issue where the Italian boxer who got hit quit the fight and said afterwards that she had been boxing a transperson I want to be careful because I want to make sure I get all my details correct here uh and that she'd never been hit that hard in her life and that of course caused stir and outrage understandably so that's a very visceral kind of image and that's already a big talking point especially in our country as far as trans athletes and where they uh where they you know how people are trying to figure out ways to let them compete and compete against the sex the sex that they were born as and all these different things right it's a very very complicated issue um but you are mistaken Andrew because she is in fact she was in fact born a female she is a female born a female that was something that was misinformation out there and it spread very quickly because it's a very polarizing topic but uh it's it has been verified since then that she was you know and listen there are plenty of women who have masculine features there are plenty of men that have feminine features right it's not it is it's a very hot button issue though so it's easy to see how that all very quickly got spun out of control Algeria thank you but but just just so we're clear it was not it was not a trans athlete that was a man and is now a woman she was born as a woman she remains a woman okay did I do that all right I need to make sure that I got everything all my different facts straight on that anyway um goodness it's you know when when you when you sign up to do to do certain jobs and stuff like that there's just some some topics that you never even think about having to talk about at different points in your life or having an opinion about right and that that was all always one that still catches me off guard because you know as somebody who doesn't have children myself right and there's a lot of parents who are advocating for you know athletes competing against athletes of the same sex or the sex that they were born at all these different things and I understand caping up that way for your children and you want to have if you're if your if your son or daughter is a competitor in their respective Sport and you feel like there is an unfair advantage that's inherently being given because all this stuff it can get it can get pretty complicated but it's somebody who doesn't have kids and has no interest in kids and all that kind of stuff I'm just kind of like ah you know whatever and then immediately it flies across my face because it's huge news it's it's a very it's a very big talking point but it's one of those things that you know when I was I was thinking about yeah I'll go down to Nashville I'll be an NFL Titans reporter that I was going to end up having to talk about trans boxers or potentially trans boxers or uh women who are being perceived as trans but are not trans all these different things I'm exhausted anyway so let's move on uh I think that there is uh I think that there is plenty of options for bounceback but the best option for a bounce back is football football is bounced back football is back in our lives it's about to kick off and I don't want to
